The Business of Meetings – Episode 208 – Incentive Travel: Driving Business Growth with Stephanie Harris   We are delighted to welcome Stephanie Harris, President of the Incentive Research Foundation, as our guest for today's show. Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge to our discussion today. Join us as we dive into the impact of incentives, focusing in particular on non-cash options like incentive travel. Stephanie's Journey Stephanie's professional journey has been anything but linear. She began her career as a strategist for advertising and sales promotion agencies, mainly working within the client categories of shoes and shopping. After over a decade in the agency world, she transitioned to the client side, joining Merits to work on their internal marketing agency, despite knowing little about incentives and motivation then. However, her passion for the incentive world flourished during her tenure there, encompassing everything from program development to travel and gift card rewards. Her expertise caught the attention of American Express, leading to a strategic alliance role where she gained invaluable global experience, exploring diverse cultures and their attitudes toward incentives. Four years ago, she began leading the Incentive Research Foundation.  The Economic Impact of Incentive Travel Stephanie discusses the challenges in measuring the economic impact of incentive travel, highlighting a study by the Events Industry Council, showing a 1.6 trillion dollar impact on the economy. She explains that although it is difficult to accurately measure the impact of incentives beyond travel, such as gift cards and merchandise spending, she has seen that organizations consistently employing incentives tend to outperform their peers, making incentives a competitive differentiator. Strategic Use of Incentives to Motivate Workforce  Exploring the evolving reasons for using incentives to motivate the workforce, Stephanie has noticed that they are increasingly seen as essential for building organizational culture, particularly in light of how the pandemic influenced remote work. Stephanie shares insights from the Incentive Travel Index, highlighting how leadership perceives incentives as essential for increasing organizational success and retaining top talent. Personalized Experiences and Authenticity in Incentive Travel Looking at the importance of personalized experiences and authenticity in incentive travel, Stephanie emphasizes the need to tailor incentive destinations to the preferences and psychographics of the participants. She explains how unique and authentic experiences foster employee motivation and loyalty, with organizations increasingly seeking to surprise winners with exclusivity in their incentive destinations. Prioritizing Mental Health and Wellness in Events: Stephanie shares personal anecdotes highlighting the importance of prioritizing mental health and wellness in the events industry. She discusses the impact of the pandemic on remote work and the need for face-to-face interactions to combat loneliness and improve mental health, looking at strategies like incorporating breaks, offering structured networking opportunities, and designing programs with wellness in mind. Role of AI in Event Planning Looking at the role of artificial intelligence in event planning, Stephanie highlights how AI can streamline tasks, generate content, and offer valuable insights for event organizers. She encourages industry professionals to embrace artificial intelligence as a helpful tool for enhancing efficiency and innovation in event management, emphasizing the need for hands-on exploration and experimentation with AI technologies. Bio: Stephanie Harris Stephanie Harris is President of the Incentive Research Foundation (IRF). In her role, she directs the strategy and efforts of the IRF, which funds and promotes research and education to increase understanding, effective use, and benefits of non-cash incentives for businesses globally.  Before joining the IRF, Harris was part of the American Express Meetings & Events leadership team, leading global event strategy, thought leadership, and marketing. Elevate Summit Vol 2: The CMO's PlaybookContinuing our Christmas hits in affiliate marketing, we're looking at another great take from our Elevate Summit: how performance marketing is being adopted into brand management structures. Featuring insights from panel members, Helen Southgate from Acceleration Partners, Stephanie Harris from PartnerCentric, Seb Bardin from Unilever, and Matt Frary from The Partner Agency. This panel of great marketing minds is discussing with Lee-Ann the broad definitions that are lost on modern CMOs and how they can apply modern affiliate marketing methods. Listen here for the full details. What can we take into 2023?In order to give you the most up-to-date and detailed CMO's Playbook, we're looking at tips that you can learn from 2022 and take into 2023. Complete with insights from our Elevate Summit panel members. So, what's to be taken into the future?Stephanie Harris: “Performance doesn't mean there is no upfront investment.”The first piece of CMOs of the affiliate marketing agency is to make sure you are putting in as much as you intend to get out of your marketing campaign. Stephanie says, “Analysis that can be done to ensure that you and the decision makers in your company feel comfortable and confident that the investment is going to generate the return that you need, or that you understand what you as a business need to work on first before you can see that return when you enter the affiliate space.”Helen Southgate: “You get out what you put in.”Echoing her concept somewhat, Helen adds that you get out what you put in in terms of time investment and effort. But you shouldn't be above outsourcing if you need to.Helen says, “I think if you leave an affiliate program to run, it doesn't run very well. It's stagnant and so you have to keep working at it. And - I think it's a plug considering this - a few agencies on this, like getting outside advice, expert advice, which is massively beneficial to everyone I think.”Matt Frary: “This is a human relationship-based business.”It's important for CMOs to remember that affiliate marketing is all about creating relationships. Relationships between affiliate and manager, between brands, between affiliates and users, and more. Matt says, “I think we need to realize that although we want this to be zeros and ones and the industry is very data based, we need to realize really what we are in here is the relationship and people business. And part of that is reaching out, that's part of partnering, that's part of using the resources around us being willing to try things with other people. It's not folding our arms and saying that will never work. … So, we have to get out of our own ways.”Seb Bardin: “End-to-end campaigns are challenging the status quo.”Seb, on the other hand, likes to plan for the future. Seb says, “From a brand, from a performance, perspective, yes, of course we want to understand our brand metrics, but also when it comes more to performance, where is the autumn coming as part of this journey?”If you are interested in more affiliate and social media marketing insights, take a look at our blog for all the latest news and advice. [5:50] Goals that make sense for your organization [7:50] The portfolio approach to reducing residual emissions [10:40] The challenges of net-zero [12:45] 2020's impact on the voluntary carbon market [15:35] Why are residual emissions important on the path to zero? Residual emissions refer to any emissions that remain unabated when an organization has reached net zero in line with limiting warming to 1.5°C. Often these emissions are from sources out of a company's direct control. For example, transportation of goods is frequently managed by an outside company. How can a company affect change in an area where they have little influence? This is where carbon credits, also called carbon offsets, come into play. Purchasing carbon credits provides an opportunity for companies to support emission reduction or removal projects to immediately address their Scope 1 and 3 emissions. 3Degrees helps organizations build a portfolio of high-quality, third-party verified carbon offset projects that are meaningful to their businesses and have proven additionality and quantifiable greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions. By leveraging these tools, organizations can make an immediate impact on areas of their businesses that would otherwise be difficult to address. Carbon credits are an effective tool for companies to incorporate into a broader GHG reduction strategy in an effort to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner. Organizations can and should do everything in their power to reduce as much as possible, as quickly as possible. Carbon credits are an important tool to compensate for what remains.  Important considerations for investing in carbon reduction/removal projects While there are many considerations when deciding which carbon projects to support, 3Degrees outlines some of the most important criteria that organizations should evaluate when developing a GHG reduction strategy. Cost is a common consideration when investing in carbon offset projects - the plan must be affordable to be useful. The project location is also an important consideration. Is the offset project in a location relevant to the buyer's headquarters or operations? The company must also consider how this investment could impact members of its community. Project co-benefits are additional benefits beyond a reduction in GHG emissions an d are often a motivational factor for investment and an effective tool for engaging stakeholders. Co-benefits such as air quality, social impact, habitat protection, and biodiversity can result from carbon offset projects. Organizations interested in supporting carbon offset projects must determine the co-benefits that are most meaningful to them.  Making a difference now A growing number of organizations are making ambitious climate commitments, including setting net zero goals. While significant progress is being made towards achieving these commitments, the road to net zero is often a lengthy one, so it's important for companies to also take action to mitigate the impact of their emissions in the near term. By investing in carbon reduction and removal projects as part of a broader GHG reduction strategy, organizations can reduce their carbon footprint today while supporting a longer-term transition to net zero emissions.   Resources & People Mentioned 3Degrees: Renewable Energy Partner - Sustainability Consulting Connect with Stephanie Harris LinkedIn profile Stephanie Harris is a Director on 3Degrees' Carbon Markets team, where she is responsible for managing the company's voluntary carbon offset portfolio. Because THAT'S WHAT WE DO. Alese and I met at Blue Sail Coffee at the Tech Park in Little Rock. There's a lot of background noise. Sorry. But you'll get used to it. This episode may be a little much for anyone not interested or somewhat well-versed in Startup World. But midway or so, we start to talk about women in this milieu and the challenges we face--from funding, to getting appropriate attention for our ideas, to creating a more equitable ecosystem. I hope you enjoy. #UppityWomenUnite Uppity Women is hosted by Stephanie Harris, founder of Women Lead Arkansas, a non-partisan nonprofit whose mission is to empower women and girls to engage in politics, policy, and leadership. The minute opens with Bart whispering into Jim's ear. The Waco Kid laughs and we dissolve to he, Bart and Mongo admiring some kind of wooden structure in the middle of the prairie. As the scene dissolves, we see Lamarr's army charging toward the camera. As they close in, a gate closes and they all come to a halt. The reverse shoot shows it is a toll booth. Taggart reads aloud, "Lepetomane thruway!?" He realizes they will need to pay the new toll. He yells, "Somebody's gotta go back and get a sh*t load of dimes!" As the minute comes to an end, we see Bart, Jim and the citizens of Rock Ridge gathered on the top of a rocky hill. It looks like someone is handing Bart a plunger used to ignite an explosive charge. Our guest today is Stephanie Harris. She has been in the Radio/Voice field for over five years. The episode opens with Hedley Lamarr correcting the pronunciation of his name. He continues through the pledge he is making his gang take. He then ends with a twist on an old Cole Porter lyric. He says, "Now go do, that voodoo, that you do, so well!" They all go riding off, shooting their guns in the air. We immediately transition back to the fake Rock Ridge. Bart holds up his hands and tells everyone they have a problem. Olson Johnson catches on and realizes there are no people. Bart reassures the citizens they can get it done in time. He instructs them to get to work while he asks Jim and Mongo to help him with an idea to delay the attackers to a crawl. Our guest today is Stephanie Harris. Welcome to the Tearsheet Podcast. I'm Zack Miller. Today we dig into affiliate marketing. It's a model that was first made popular by Amazon. A company looking to increase its sales partners with content sites to promote products. If those content sites are successful driving traffic or sales or leads, they get paid. Nowadays, every major credit card player has an affiliate program. Stephanie Harris is the founder and owner of PartnerCentric, a performance marketing agency. She and her firm work with major card issuers and banks to help them maximize the results from their performance marketing. We talk about why affiliate programs make sense in financial services and Stephanie describes the challenges in running a good affiliate program. Lastly, she gives us some tricks of the trade for financial firms looking to get into affiliate market.

Michelle Barnes is the founder of Real Images. From www.realimages.org: Michelle's vision for Real Images formed in 2006 when she saw that young girls didn't have many positive or healthy images of women in the media. In 2007, she began conducting self-image workshops for teenagers and facilitating empowerment workshops for young women. She finally decided to make her passion wide spread when she founded Real Images in 2014. Michelle is a native of south Arkansas. This is a wonderful conversation under the banner of “resilience”. My guest is Stephanie Harris. Stephanie is an author and a self growth and progress coach. She is a South African based in New Zealand and specialises in supporting those experiencing grief – that could be grief caused by the death of a loved one, friend or pet – but it also could be caused by a major setback. Stephanie book Death Expands Us is based on her personal experience dealing with the sudden loss of her brother. She wrote the book she wished she had when she was going through that loss. Losses and setbacks will happen at various points in our lives and yet, we are often not taught the valuable life skills associated with dealing with them. This is where Stephanie's work comes in. As you will also hear from Stephanie, a loss could come from not only a death, but also the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, or many other things. We talk about all of that, as well as the way in which our minds and bodies interact under these circumstances in a very honest and valuable conversation.  Show notes: Stephanie's website Stephanie's book Death Expands Us Stephanie on Twitthttps://stephanieharriscoaching.com/er  _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Like what you heard? I am a firm believer that every day many chiropractors contribute and change lives for the better. I also very much appreciate people having the experience of community with other like-minded practitioners. It increases purpose, certainty, contribution, and sense of value and connection.   As we come out of our annual event in moving forward with the Podcast series. We will highlight many areas that are resources to chiropractors, including members of the Mile High community.   Dr. Stephanie Harris is a local chiropractor and a mom as well as a raving fan of Mile High. She had attended the last three years and she states that being part of Mile High has helped her grow as a practitioner and in her chiropractic certainty. Dr. Stephanie Harris is a chiropractor, mom and solo practitioner who has had a unique journey the last several years. Her daughter has had significant health concerns which you will learn about in the podcast. Her family pulled together and persevered through with the help of many others including the local chiropractic community. It's not only the big events but also the things that happen in all of our everyday lives that are significant. And this one is exceptional.   Enjoy getting to know one of my favorite local docs, Stephanie Harris.

Seven years ago, the Bainbridge Chorale hosted the first Messiah sing-along to be produced on the Island. That tradition has continued annually ever since, bringing together professional soloists, a talented volunteer instrumental ensemble, enthusiastic singers and listeners. Our podcast guests are Bainbridge Chorale executive director Stephanie Harris and artistic director Michael Miller. They tell us that you don't need to be a great singer to enjoy being a part of the annual Messiah sing-along. All are welcome, including those who just want to listen. This year's sing-along will take place on Sunday, December 27th at 7pm at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church. The church is on the Island at 11042 Sunrise Drive. Handel's beloved oratorio, perhaps the best-known and most frequently performed choral work in Western music, is described as a commentary on Christ's nativity, passion, resurrection and ascension. The Messiah is performed around the world during the Christmas season and at Easter as well. Suggested donation at the door is $10, with the proceeds supporting the two Bainbridge Chorale youth programs -- the Olympic Girls' Choir and the Bainbridge Youth Chorale.
