A Word With You
Drowning Out the Disturbing Music - #10076

A Word With You

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 25, 2025

There's a 7-Eleven store owner in Texas who won my respect some years ago. Never met the man, but I really respect his creativity. He had this particular problem every night in his parking lot. A bunch of teenagers would gather there and their rock music would blare from their cars and then they kind of took over their neighborhood with decibels. And when they left, they'd leave a trail of litter and broken bottles. Now, he could have gone out in the parking lot and yelled and screamed, and said, "You crazy kids, get out of here!" But he was much more creative and effective than that. He installed his own speakers on the roof of his store and started playing Mozart in the parking lot at night. His speakers were so big he was drowning out their speakers. I'll bet you could guess and guess correctly what happened! No more teenagers in the parking lot! They're not going to go near that Mozart stuff. His music cleared the parking lot. Now, that's a great way to win. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Drowning Out the Disturbing Music." Now, our word for today from the Word of God comes from Deuteronomy 6. It is addressed to parents who have just moved out of the wilderness. They're moving into the Promised Land of Canaan, but it's a pagan place. They've been raising their children around people who believe what they believe. Now, they're going to have to raise their children in a pagan culture, a pleasure-mad, godless environment. There's going to be a lot of temptation for their kids, and the children will be hearing the siren song of Canaan blasting through the neighborhood. How do parents deal with all these pagan influences? It sounds like the atmosphere in which we're raising our kids, doesn't it? Do you go out and yell and scream against all the sin? That might not be the best approach. Deuteronomy 6, beginning with verse 6: "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." Seems like the strategy that God suggests here is to drown out the music of a godless earth with the music of a Christ-centered home. You can create in your family an island of sanity in an otherwise insane world. We hear all the appealing voices and temptations of a sinful culture, and oftentimes we act like we're afraid of that as if they really have something to offer. We cloister our kids; we try to pretend there is no other music. But God says in essence, "You can't stop the world from playing its alluring attractions for your children, but you can play the music of Jesus louder. How do you do that? Impress His teachings on your children. It doesn't just say tell them or teach them. It says to impress them. Now, if you want to make an impression on something physically, you've got to be right next to it, in touch with it. That's how you impress something. Well, see, this is close-up time! It's not just teaching Christian answers; it's spending lots of that close-up time with them. It's interweaving God talk and God values into their everyday activities. Wrapping them in your God stories. The best place to learn about Him, to see the reality of your faith is in the classroom of everyday life. It's debriefing your child daily from their venture into the world. The greater impression is when they see you loving Jesus, enjoying Jesus, meeting with Jesus yourself. Not so much pushing Jesus - enjoying Him; a spontaneous faith treats Jesus like the unseen member of our family; the decisive person in all the things that matter to you. The world can't play music like that, so don't waste a lot of time trying to fight the world's blaring music. Just play Jesus' song louder, with a living faith in your family.

The preseason finale sees the Cardinals host the Las Vegas Raiders. Craig Grialou and Zach Gershman look ahead to the game and discuss who they want to see play. (FYI, as of Wednesday, head coach Jonathan Gannon hadn't said if the staters will play; Craig and Zach are assuming they won't.) The guys put the spotlight on several different position rooms, starting with cornerback. Also, there are a handful of undrafted rookies who have played well throughout training camp and the preseason. Can they do it one more time?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

147. Sam Merrill on Confidence, Work, and Being a Great Teammate

This week's episode features NBA player and Utah State legend Sam Merrill. His journey—from quiet gym hours to big-stage moments—reminds us that greatness grows from daily choices. Sam's counsel hits three Especially for Athletes principles head-on: Be Resilient, Win the Hour, and Seek to Bless, Not to Impress. Here are a few highlights to discuss with your team or family—and a link to the full conversation at the end. 1) Be Resilient: Build Macro Confidence Sam distinguishes between the ups and downs of a single shot and the deeper trust built over months and years. “I'm a very macro confident person… my confidence game to game or shot to shot can go up and down, but I've always felt so confident in the work I'm putting in—that it's going to pay off… During those years where I wasn't sure it was going to work out in the NBA, I felt very confident it would work out somewhere because I put in the work.” E4A Takeaway: Resilience isn't pretending every moment feels great. It's choosing to keep working when the results are delayed. Believe in the process you control. 2) Win the Hour: Choose “Want-To” over “Have-To” Sam's separator isn't a secret drill—it's the intention behind every rep. “Are you going to the gym because you have to… or because you want to get better and get something done? I've played with guys who are there because they have to be, and guys who are there because they want to be. I always felt like I wanted to be there—and still do.” E4A Takeaway: Before each workout, decide your purpose. Go to get something done. Stack intentional hours—one by one—until the pattern becomes your edge. 3) Seek to Bless, Not to Impress: Be a Selfless Teammate Even at the highest level, teams thrive when players choose people over ego. “Being a good teammate is being as selfless as you can be… Ask yourself: ‘Am I being selfless for my teammates? Is this helping all of us, not just me?' I've had great teammates—Jrue Holiday was an insanely good human… And with Donovan Mitchell, he cares about everybody, communicates, understands what role players go through.” E4A Takeaway: Your influence is bigger than your box score. Use your voice and your energy to lift others. That's leadership that lasts. Why This Matters Sam's message fits the heart of Especially for Athletes: develop confidence through consistent work, be intentional with every hour, and value people over praise. That's how sports become a tool for character—not just a chase for achievements.

Don't be a wussy, coward, weakling… don't be lukewarm,… be passionate for something, be a leaderDon't try to seduce a girl in a club or disco, because the chances are too bad. In the clubs, the girls like to reject and in the end, they will brag how many guys they have rejected!!! First, go for a relaxed girl somewhere… because she has an open heart and you don't want to try to date a girl full of problems because this will not work.If you approach a hot girl on the street, think: Most men are afraid to approach a super beautiful or sexy girl… so that these girls are often alone and easy.First look in her eyes, smile, approach… look how she reacts… is she looking back? Is she looking in your eyes?Is she looking first in your eyes and then upwards?… Let her go … No chancesIs she looking first in your eyes and then downwards?… Great… Does she keep eye contact when you approach her?… the best…Give her a compliment, how gorgeous she is, be personal, be specific, tell her what you love on her,… Forget all these pickup lines, and I never have used them. Fake compliments will not help because the girl recognizes them as fake! Find out if she has a boyfriend… then dating doesn't make sense… So many times, Thai-girls asked me “Do you have a girlfriend?” And this in the first 3 minutes, mostly as an opener… When I was a student, I have looked in her eyes and tried to keep the eye- contact, and then I embraced her when it felt good … it worked… Even I have done it on a ferry to Vancouver Islands… and then we went to her home… Train your intuition … If you see a girl that is ashamed or shy or her face turns red when you look at her… Go for her!!! Get in contact, introduce yourself, and give her a compliment… and try to speak with her in a relaxed way, break the ice, be funny, tell her what you like on her… Look always how she reacts when you look on a girl, is she fondling her hairs, lips… This is a good sign… When you approach her, she wants to impress, so she is putting out her bops… men should do the same, straight spin/neck, breast out so that this looks confident. Girls are afraid to go to a date, and to the same time, they want a date with a passionate guy. So, just say: I don't want a date, I just want to know you more, to speak with such a cute girl,… besides that, do you have a boyfriend? My name is … (Casanova) and you are Jane… (get her name and speak to her as often as possible with her name…)I am on the way to a cafe, can you join me… Or where do you like to go, so that I can join you….?And I love to go to this park/movie/Cafe, to go dancing, but not alone… Look for a reason to go with her out and then ask for a phone number…Big issue? First, you need a reason and then say: “Let exchange our phone numbers because we want to see us again…” Give her your phone, let her type her number and then phone her immediately…  Be specific! Then say: “I will phone you tomorrow at 5Pm because she hates uncertainty and hates guys who can't keep their promise” If she can't she will tell you… Call her, and say where you have met her… and make an irresistible offer for an awesome day…”I invite you to the 7 islands tour”… You say: “BE ON TIME (that is important) because the tour operator will not wait…, or I am a busy person… “  Don't brag, impress her with your passion and humor…  If you get the date finally, embrace her and tell her how beautiful she looks in her dress…be specific, be personal…Typically, women need 1- 2 hours just to make herself beautiful, … so she has invested heavily in this dating… And she doesn't want to be disappointed with a lukewarm, dishonest, dispassionate…!  Introduce yourself, say statements/questions that she will comment on… be funny, tell some funny stories that you have experienced… don't brag!!! Impress her with your honesty and tell from your passions… Answer all of her questions with honesty! Afterward, when the conversation was good, go with her to a park and get in body contact… feel her hands and slowly with her consents (feel her permissions and don't ask for it) touch her body, embrace her, give her a kiss… My Video: How to seduce, part 3? https://youtu.be/Gczo8dDua6QMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast.B/How-to-seduce-part-3.mp3

A Mohamed Salah goal and two from Cody Gakpo were sufficient after the visitors had twice equalised, first through Oihan Sancet and then an inadvertent own goal from Gakpo. “Ozzy” Osbourne, who championed hell, wanted to go to Heaven; Victory for Dutch homeschool families; Epstein files controversy dragging Trump presidency down

The WorldView in 5 Minutes

It's Friday, July 25th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Victory for Dutch homeschool families Earlier this year, the Home School Legal Defense Association highlighted the story of the Hinrich Family, who fought for over a year for the right to homeschool their children in the Netherlands. Just this month, the Public Prosecutor's Office publicly stated that parents who refuse to send their children to compulsory school, based on a qualified religious objection, will no longer be prosecuted. Like the Hinrichs, over 2,100 children were exempt from compulsory attendance in 2024 in the Netherlands, due to objections by their parents that no school in their area reflected their religious convictions. This is one of the lawful reasons to homeschool in the country. Nevertheless, parents were criminally prosecuted for truancy and found themselves, as did the Hinrichs, in a court battle to defend their natural right to raise their children according to their religious convictions. Thankfully, this decision changes that. The Public Prosecutor reported there were 160 criminal cases against parents in 2024. These prosecutions occurred despite Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which requires states, including the Netherlands, to respect “the liberty of parents…to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions.” Please pray that the authorities in the Netherlands will stop harassing homeschoolers for good. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 underscores the role parents should play in the education of their children. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.” Epstein files controversy dragging Trump presidency down The Epstein files controversy is dragging down the Trump presidency.  Gallup reports that his approval rating has sunk to 37%. The revolt of House Republicans who favor releasing the Epstein case documents surprised White House officials and multiple members of GOP leadership, reports Politico.com. Some have questioned whether President Trump himself is implicated criminally. In an interview with Major Garrett on CBS' The Takeout, House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the need to be transparent. JOHNSON: “We want full transparency. We want everybody who is involved in any way with the Epstein evils -- let's call it what it was -- to be brought to justice as quickly as possible. We want the full weight of the law on their heads.” GARRETT: “But when the Justice Department said in that same two-page memo, there's no reason to pursue further prosecutions, many said, ‘How can those two things be properly aligned?'” JOHNSON: “These are good questions. I don't know. I've never seen the Epstein evidence. It wasn't in my lane, but I have the same concern and question that a lot of people do. I mean, there are real victims here.” Murder victim's mother forgives murderer Bryan Kohberger Bryan Kohberger, who admitted to brutally stabbing four University of Idaho students to death at their home in November 2022, was given his sentence on July 23rd.  Sadly, the judge sidestepped Biblical justice found in Genesis 9:6 which says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind." The judge gave Kohberger four consecutive sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole. He was also ordered to pay a combined $200,000 in fines and $5,000 in civil penalties to the families of each victim. He was also sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine in connection with a count of burglary associated with the crime.  Amazingly, the mother of one of Bryan Kohberger's murder victims forgave her daughter's killer in court Wednesday, expressing hope that he would find Jesus Christ and said she'd be praying for him.  Cara Northington, the mother of murder victim Xana Kernodle, expressed confidence that “Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, now has her in His loving arms in Heaven, where she can never be harmed ever again for eternity.”  “Ozzy” Osbourne, who championed hell, wanted to go to Heaven And finally, "Ozzy" Osbourne, who rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, died on July 22nd at the age of 76, reports The Guardian. The English musician adopted the nickname "Prince of Darkness.” Osbourne's signature song entitled “Black Sabbath” included these lyrics: “What is this that stands before me? Figure in black which points at me Turn 'round quick, and start to run Find out I'm the chosen one.” In their 1970 song entitled “N.I.B.”,  they feature the lyrics, “My name is Lucifer, please take my hand.” And a 1980 song  entitled “Mr. Crowley” referenced Aleister Crowley, an English occultist often labeled as "the wickedest man in the world." Ozzy explored Crowley's legacy with curiosity and mystique. The lyrics said, “Mr. Crowley, what went on in your head? Oh Mr. Crowley, did you talk to the dead?” Osbourne sold over 100 million albums, including his solo work and Black Sabbath releases. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. In the early 2000s, Osbourne became a reality television star when he appeared in the degrading, profanity-filled MTV reality show The Osbournes. It aired from 2002 to 2005 alongside Sharon, his second wife, and two of their children, Kelly and Jack.  Sadly, Osbourne abused alcohol and drugs most of his life.  He also was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in his twilight years. For someone who championed hell, he appeared to want to go to Heaven. In a 2010 interview with The Sunday Times, he said, “I genuinely believe that if you're a good person, you go to Heaven. But I can't imagine what that is. There has to be more to life than this.” There is indeed more to life than what we can see in the physical realm.  But, in Romans 3:10, the Bible says, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” And Isaiah 64:6 says, “All our righteousness is like filthy rags.” Finally, Romans 10:9 proclaims, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” If you've never repented of your sin and asked Jesus Christ to be your Savior and Lord, there is no time like the present. Do you ever feel like you're not qualified to lead your daughter spiritually? Maybe you didn't grow up with strong faith role models, maybe you struggle to read Scripture consistently, or maybe you're overwhelmed by the thought of answering your child's deep questions about God. If so—you're not alone. And this episode is for you.  This week on the Raising Godly Girls Podcast, co-hosts Rachael Culpepper and Melissa Bearden offer real talk and reassuring truth for every mom who feels inadequate when it comes to spiritual leadership. Together, they tackle the lie that says “you're not equipped” and replace it with God's truth: if He called you to it, He will carry you through it. You don't need to be a Bible scholar to disciple your daughter—you just need a willing heart and the faith to take the next step.  Drawing from personal stories, Scripture, and relatable insight, Rachael and Melissa unpack how to lead your home in faith while learning and growing yourself. They remind listeners that spiritual formation isn't a performance—it's a relationship. And the best discipleship doesn't happen in perfect devotionals, but in everyday moments of honesty, humility, and love.  In this episode, you'll be encouraged to:  Trust that God chose you on purpose to raise your daughter—and He doesn't make mistakes  Embrace discipleship as a journey you walk with your child, not something you have to master beforehand  Find your voice as a spiritual leader by speaking truth out loud and modeling dependence on God  Build confidence through community, mentorship, and resources like AHG curriculum and the Raising Godly Girls Guide to Biblical Worldview  Let go of the pressure to “have it all together,” and instead, learn the beauty of being a co-learner in God's Word    Scriptures Referenced:  Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way she should go…”  Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “Impress [these commands] on your children…”  Ephesians 5:1–2 – “Be imitators of God… and walk in love…”  It's okay if you don't have all the answers. What matters most is showing up with humility, pointing your daughter to Jesus, and trusting that God's grace fills every gap. In fact, the moments when you feel the weakest may be the very places where your daughter sees the strength of Christ most clearly.  Explore more resources to raise girls rooted in Christ at raisinggodlygirls.com.   To find or start an AHG Troop in your area, visit americanheritagegirls.org.

I guess 16 years is enough time to pass to make a sports documentary about something historic.  In the case of "Underdogs: the 2009 Open Championship" aired on Golf Channel, it didn't take long for this one to reduce yours truly to a whimpering little pup filled with horrible memories of Tom Watson not finishing off perhaps the greatest individual feat in sports history.    Shane Gillis stuns the audience as the host of the ESPY's.  It's Disney corporation apologizing for all the woke as the conservative free speech comedian offended just about everyone, without foul language.  We have the deets.    Trey Smith is not only the highest paid guard in history he's a heckuva man.  This was on display as he signed his deal with the Chiefs and then called his dad on speaker phone.  What happened was just the best.    The Senate passes a $9 billion clawback at 2:30 am that will defund NPR and PBS if the House approves by Friday.  We may need a parade.  In Oregon, the feds are trolling protesters in the best way ever... this is hilarious.  Pam Bondi fires James Comey's daughter and a popular singer loses his instrument on stage at a concert.
