CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF HIP HOP WITH THIS CLASSIC NEW JACK SWING / HIP HOP MIX WITH HITS FROM KEITH SWEAT, RAKIM, BEL BIV DEVOE AND MANY MORE ❗️❗️
Happy Born Day Hip Hop! How do we celebrate the culture that has given us so much over the past 50 years? By sharing two interview with true Hip Hop pioneers. Over our 250+ episode run we have had the privilege of talking with many Hip Hop legends none more important than Roxanne Shante and Easy AD (of the Cold Crush Brothers). Despite being a global cultural and economic phenomenon, Hip Hop is still criminally under-documented (especially the era before people were making shit tons of money off rap music). That's why we are proud to present this week's episode which features excerpts from DBRP Classic interviews with two true Hip Hop pioneers. In the first segment, we flash back to our Roxanne Shante interview from 2018 as she prepared for the release of her Netflix biopic. She described her incredible ascent to the top of the rap world and her struggles with misogyny in Hip Hop. Part two of this birthday bash features an excerpt from an interview we did with Cold Crush Brother Easy AD. He touches on the park jam era and whether the Cold Crush has been properly celebrated for their contributions to the culture. Hip Hop has been very very good to us. Here's to 50 more years! If you like what you hear please like, rate, review, and subscribe on your platform of choice. If you really down with the team please subscribe to our Patreon (patreon.com/dadbodrappod) Big ups to Stony Island Audio massive! Theme song was produced by the homie DJ Cutso

This week we have a huge show that focuses on the first hour being a mix of classic house and future classics!Nothing is ever really planned on Sounds From Within, it cant! It must come from within, so the tracks flow from one record to the next..That being said we kicked off with a classic track from 1989 and it flowed for the next hour, bridging the gaps along the house music's journey. The second hour sees us dipping into the birth place of Hip Hop and celebrating Sedgewick Ave in the Bronx where Kool Herc would have played his blend of Disco and Funk Breaks. We end the show with some Classic Hip Hop and a huge nod to Brooklyn.Tune into new broadcasts of Sounds From Within, LIVE, Wednesday from 4- 6 PM EST / 9 - 11 PM GMTFor more info visit: https://thefaceradio.com/sounds-from-within///Dig this show? Before the Sprite "Obey Your Thirst" campaign, Hip-Hop in advertisements was perceived as "corny". In 1993 a film emerged entitled Judgment Night featuring some high-profile starts (of the time), Emilio Estevez, Dennis Leary, Jeremy Piven, and Cuba Gooding Jr. to name a few. However, more notable than the actors, and shoot, even more notable than the movie itself, was the film's soundtrack. Released on Immortal Records (home to West-Coast legends, Funkdoobiest & Volume 10) the Judgment Night soundtrack took the fusion of rock and rap to a whole new level. By pairing acts like Biohazard, Teenage Fanclub, Sonic Youth, and Mudhoney with Hip-Hop acts such as Del The Funkee Homosapien, Onyx, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and De La Soul, the Judgment Night soundtrack made fans see a clear path to what would later become "Rock Rap" and inspire such acts as Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. Listen as Sean Kantrowitz talks to journalists and musical performers from the soundtrack to find out more about the history and experience of what it was like to be a part of something so ahead of it's time.Follow our socials @hiphopgoldrush and @stupidflymediaSupport Stupid Fly by checking out our merch at www.stupid-fly.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Kool Rock-SkiTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Damon Wimbley. You may know Damon by another name... Kool Rock-Ski from the legendary rap group The Fat Boys. That's right Streetwalkers! I got to chat with none other than old school rap and hip hop LEGEND Kool Rock-Ski! In this episode we chat about how he met and formed The Fat Boys, what made their music unique & groundbreaking, and what it was like to be part of the birth of a new genre of music. All along the way we discuss other hip hop and rap pioneers like: Furious Five, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, and even Everlast. Kool Rock talks about the time he met Rick James at Studio 54 before he was even old enough to drink! Kool Rock tells us about his previous podcast 360 Rock Live, and whether or not it will make a comeback. I ask him what the hell "Brrr stickum" means, and there is a fun story behind that. We learn all about the annual Classic Hip Hop and R&B Cookout in NUYC every summer and what the purpose of it is. I find out at the very end that there is currently a petition to get The Fat Boys inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and what Streetwalkers can do to help make it happen. Finally, Kool Rock lets me play his newest musical venture: Hush by Kokane Featuring Kool Rock Ski. This is a little boy's dream come true. Thank you so much Kool Rock!SIGN THE PETITION TO GET THE FAT BOYS INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME:https://www.change.org/p/nominate-the-legendary-group-the-fat-boys-into-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame

One that would take him from becoming a local radio DJ to a worldwide, international MC to the founder of one of the most successful West Coast rap crews to date. Before Christopher "Kid" Reid became one of the most iconic faces in Hip-Hop history, along with his partner in rap, Christopher "Play" Martin, he had to endure a lot to become who he is. Nothing came easy - the white people didn't respect him because he was half Jamaican. The black people laughed at him because he was half white. This meant he had to work doubly hard, and use his charismatic personality and love for Hip-Hop as tools to navigate the rough waters of New York life. Come on an audio journey of his life and hear how he went from performing for free at park jams in the Bronx to working at Sears with Martin Lawrence to being the first rapper with a Saturday morning cartoon. Since his childhood in the 1970's, Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones manifested his destiny with his determination and undeniable hustling skills. He went from an aspiring teenage MC listening to Run DMC to being signed by the late-great Jam Master Jay. He learned how to fake-it-till-you-make-it by grabbing a pair of hair clippers and becoming one of the most sought-after barbers in Brooklyn. Nothing got in his way, even if it meant running over some of his favorite MC's on his journey to the top.
