Following two highly acclaimed albums, group EPMD continued their success with their 3rd LP titled Business As Usual, released in 1990. This album took what they had done in the past and amplified it with a grittier sound and more rugged feel that the group became known for. Erick Sermon and Parish Smith are at their peak lyrically, while DJ Scratch provides arguably the best performance from a DJ on a record. It's also noteable for being the first time the world would hear Redman on a wax.https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=ZT-8uvpuwTPMEg&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/share/16LtzeTMz9/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Episode 115 is a review of the compilation album from hip-hop rapper and producer Erick Sermon, titled Insomnia released in 1996. The Funk Lord himself takes a back seat when it comes to rapping and instead produces all but one song on the album, having only one song himself and letting his crew take the shine lyrically. With strong acts such as Redman and Keith Murray to name a few, this shapes up to be a very enjoyable underground album. https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8s2OWUUv23G&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa/profilecard/?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl https://www.facebook.com/share/15eo9grgp4/?mibextid=LQQJ4d

B. Cox and Domo review Jay-Z's third album Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life as it turns 25. Looking to improve on his commercial success from Vol. 1...In My Lifetime, Jay-Z looked to bring on new producers to give his album the commercial shine without the sound being overglossed. In for this album, production wise was the likes of Swizz Beats and Timbaland to go along with mainstays DJ Premier, Irv Gotti, Erick Sermon and others. The album featured a distinct commercial sound more appropriate for his flow and style as well as the trademark gritty beats and street tracks that was a hallmark of his style from his debut. On Vol. 2, Jay also showed how versatile his flow was, showing that he could rap four different ways on four different radio smashes. The album featured four singles: "Can I Get A..." featuring Amil and Def Jam labelmate Ja Rule, the 'Annie' sample assisted banger "Hard Knock Life", "Money, Cash, Hoes" featuring DMX and "Nigga Who, Nigga What?" featuring his mentor Big Jaz (Jaz-O). All singles saw considerable commercial success and became drivers for the album to become his best selling album to date at almost six million copies. It is credited as the album that propelled Jay-Z to becoming a hip-hop superstar and would set the table for a three year run that would solidify his status as the best rapper in the game.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesAlbumism: Jay-Z's Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life Turns 25 | Album Anniversaryhttps://albumism.com/features/jay-z-vol-2-hard-knock-life-album-anniversary"Hard Knock Life": How Jay-Z Completed his Journey From Rags To Richeshttps://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/vol-2-hard-knock-life-jay-z/American Urban Radio Networks: Beyond A Reasonable Doubt: Jay-Z's "Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life" Turns 25https://aurn.com/beyond-a-reasonable-doubt-jay-z-vol-2-hard-knock-life-25-years-later/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Reginald Noble, known to the world as the legendary “Redman”, is a Jersey bred rapper, actor and activist. Redmans career began in the early 90s when he signed with Def Jam Records after being discovered and mentored by Erick Sermon. Quickly being recognized for his distinctive word play and humorous lyrics, Redman soon became known as one of the best voices in hip hop. After filming multiple movies including everyone's favorite stoner movie “How High”, Doc has now moved on to cannabis activism. Him and his sister have started ‘The United Empowerment Party' (UEP), a federally recognized political party dedicated to first uniting the cannabis industry to protect small businesses from being pushed out by large corps, excessive taxes and other regulatory conditions that make access limited to those who are economically disadvantaged.
