Dr. Robert Jensen returns to The Context of White Supremacy. A Suspected Racist and the author of The Heart of Whiteness, Dr. Jensen is a professor at the University of Texas Austin. Last week, suspected "White Identity Extremist" Mark Anthony Conditt allegedly self-terminated during a standoff with enforcement officials. Conditt is suspected of orchestrating a terrorist campaign in the town of Austin. A series of package bombs were delivered throughout the region, killing two black males and severely injuring four others. We'll ask Dr. Jensen if this surge of flagrant White violence will be stoked and expanded during the Trump presidency. We'll also inquire about the University's response to the bombings, and why this event seems to have received considerably less coverage than other recent violent outbursts like the Parkland school shooting or the #MeToo crusade. #WhiteIdentityExtremism INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
In this episode, Neil, Natalia, and Niki debate the historical significance of Cambridge Analytica and its relationship with Facebook, a serial bomber in Austin, and an all-white, all-male history conference at Stanford. Support Past Present on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/pastpresentpodcast Here are some links and references mentioned during this week’s show: Cambridge Analytica is suddenly a household name for its troubling use of Facebook data to influence the 2016 election. Niki referred to Siva Vaidhyanathan’s forthcoming book, Antisocial Media, about the social costs of the rise of Facebook. After terrorizing Austin for several weeks, serial bombing suspect Mark Conditt is dead. Niki referenced this Rolling Stone article about the impact of the Son of Sam serial murders on tabloid journalism. Natalia cited this NPR article on recollections of Conditt. Stanford University’s Hoover Institution hosted a conference comprised entirely of white men. Niki referred to this Washington Post article about the long relationship between the Hoover Institution and Stanford. In our regular closing feature, What’s Making History: Neil discussed Jackie Mansky’s Smithsonian article, “How Smithsonian Helped Solve the Twitter Mystery of the Unknown Woman Scientist.” Natalia commented on Joanna Rothkopf’s Jezebel article, “Inside the Convoluted ‘Battle for the Heart and Soul of Yoga’ That Resulted in Alo Yoga Suing a Body-Positive Influencer.” Niki shared Michael S. Rosenwald’s Washington Post article, “Toys R Us Founder Charles Lazarus Has Died. Here’s How He Built – And Lost – An Empire.”
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS After weeks of package bombs, niggardly media coverage, and two black males killed, the suspected Austin, Texas bomber who evaded enforcement officials and terrorized a town is reportedly deceased. Mark Anthony Conditt, a 24-year-old White Man, allegedly blew himself up during a confrontation with enforcement officials. Conditt's motives for the homicidal attacks have not been officially identified, although the suspected White Identity Extremist reportedly authored a confession. Numerous news outlets and enforcement officials have declined to identify Conduit as a terrorist; some have gone to great length to explain their word choice. South of the equator in Brazil, the assassination of Marielle Franco remains another unsolved act of White Terrorism. Many believe Franco's outspoken critique of police cruelty and Racism lead to her murder. Speaking of Race Soldiers, Samuel DuBose's killer, Ohio officer Ray Tensing, received more than $300,000 from the University of Cincinnati. Tensing was compensated for backpay and legal fees for the lawful execution of DuBose. #KillingBlackPeoplePays INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
