On Sept. 30, 2010, the South American nation of Ecuador descended into chaos. The national police force had hit the streets in a large protest demanding better benefits. Ecuador's brash and theatrical authoritarian leader Rafael Correa cracked down on the protesting police and cut media coverage, leaving the nation's citizens wondering what happened. In the aftermath, Ecuador's largest newspaper, El Universo, published an opinion piece demanding answers, and Correa went after the newspaper, threatening prison time and millions of dollars in fines. The Drag, the podcast production house behind the hit true crime podcasts Darkness: The Orange Tree and Austin Bomber, tells the story of the newspaper family that fought back against a tyrant, with dire implications for their family and for press freedom across the Americas. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/crooked-power/support

Teenager Draylen Mason dreams of being a neurosurgeon, and he also excels in music, which draws an offer to study the double bass under world-renowned professors at the University of Texas. Ten days after the first bomb exploded in an Austin suburb, Draylen notices a package on the porch and brings it into his family's home. The package explodes, and it becomes clear that the death of Stephan House, a 39-year-old Black man, was not an isolated incident. Since Draylen is also Black, the community fears that Austin's Black population is being targeted by an unknown serial bomber. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/darkness-podcast/support

Dr. Robert Jensen returns to The Context of White Supremacy. A Suspected Racist and the author of The Heart of Whiteness, Dr. Jensen is a professor at the University of Texas Austin. Last week, suspected "White Identity Extremist" Mark Anthony Conditt allegedly self-terminated during a standoff with enforcement officials. Conditt is suspected of orchestrating a terrorist campaign in the town of Austin. A series of package bombs were delivered throughout the region, killing two black males and severely injuring four others. We'll ask Dr. Jensen if this surge of flagrant White violence will be stoked and expanded during the Trump presidency. We'll also inquire about the University's response to the bombings, and why this event seems to have received considerably less coverage than other recent violent outbursts like the Parkland school shooting or the #MeToo crusade. #WhiteIdentityExtremism INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#

Conservative pundit, Bryan Crabtree asks perhaps the most polarizing question yet about the the Austin Bomber. Was he too insulated in a version of homeschooling given by his family to adjust to life? "I'm not throwing stones at homeschooling, but is it possible there is just one major error that these homeschooling parents made that led to this tragic turn of events in what seemed like an otherwise normal young adult," asks Bryan. This week we discuss the Austin Bomber. Why did the charlatans and carnival barkers insist on their fallacious narratives regarding the victims and then the bomber himself? Speaking of bombs, Donald Trump has named none other than infamous warmonger and historically idiotic neocon, John Bolton as his National Security Advisor. How does this man continue to be employable? He's been wrong on literally everything he's ever promoted. And finally, we touch on the anti gun marches that took place. ***EPISODE 568| Notes and Links***The Austin Texas bomber has been identified as 24-year-old Mark Anthony Conditt. He killed himself in a suicide-bombing injuring police. It took three weeks for Donald Trump to mention the bombings and even then he did not mention the Black victims. America is currently suffering from a white supremacists murder spree and the President who has all the words for “terrorism” has not only been silent, but he's enabled this violence with equivocations that betray the “bumbling idiot” persona he has carefully crafted. Trump is the master of White supremacy. **********************************************************************************Thanks to all of our newest patrons! Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America briefly grouse about D.C.area drivers in inclement weather before sipping their martinis. Then, they welcome the end of the Austin mail bombing horrors as the suspect apparently blows himself up as police close in on him. They also fume as the GOP-led Congress pursues yet another omnibus spending bill with virtually no fiscal restraint in sight, leading Jim to declare that "fiscal conservatism is dead." And they sigh as President Trump defies his staff to congratulate Vladimir Putin on "winning" his election and because a disgruntled Trump staffer then leaked classified information to the media.
