This week, we share a mix of some of our favorite moments from our 2010 season, including great performances from various shows we recorded both in Colorado and across the country. Featured guests include John Hiatt, Natalie Merchant, Lyle Lovett, Danielle Ate The Sandwich, Danny Barnes, and more!
Danielle Ate The Sandwich (she/her) is something of a social media marvel. Not only is she good at it, but she really enjoys how it can work for her in terms of promoting her music and engaging her fans. Danielle talks to Stevie about some of the lessons she's learned over the years from starting on YouTube and growing her indie fanbase to the point where it could support her as a full time career. Danielle Ate the Sandwich is the stage name of pop-folk songwriter, Danielle Anderson. Getting her start in Fort Collins, CO, now based in Kansas City, MO, Danielle has been touring nationally since 2009, after cultivating an online following from her homemade videos on Youtube. Danielle Ate the Sandwich has released seven albums of original music, made appearances internationally, opened for Mumford and Sons, Jake Shimabukuro, Suzanne Vega, Pomplamoose, and wrote the soundtrack to the Emmy nominated HBO documentary, “Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson" and has original songs featured in the documentary, “It's Not a Burden: The Humor and Heartache of Raising Elderly Parents." In February of 2022, Danielle completed her seventh 24 Hour Album, a songwriting challenge where Danielle writes and records new songs in just twenty hours, allowing fans to live stream her process from the recording studio and offer suggestions along the way. Transcripts available at http://thisnextsongsabout.com You can support Danielle on her Patreon as she mentioned in the episode here: http://patreon.com/danielleatethesandwich You can support our Patreon for BTS and early access to episodes, tip sheets and community here: http://patreon.com/thisnextsongsabout ----more---- Don't forget to check out some great home-recording microphones on offer from Shure here: Shure MV7 podcast and vocal mic Shure SM58 - most durable stage & recording mic ever created!
Please join me for a very special episode celebrating the release of the beautiful new documentary, It's Not A Burden: The Humor and Heartache of Raising Elderly Parents in The Locher Room.Joining the conversation are Emmy-nominated filmmaker Michelle Boyaner (Writer / Director), Executive Producer Aaron Lustig who played Dr. Tim Reid on The Young and the Restless along with two of the film's subjects Maxine Lapidus and Brother Ken Curley. In the film, Maxine's mother Esther is a larger-than-life entertainer who still has a lot of performing up her sleeve and her daughters Maxine & Sally do everything they can to make sure she has an audience. Brother Ken cared for his mother, but he also cared for a group of retired brothers at the Holy Family Community. Brother Ken also performed with Maxine's mother Esther and has known their family for decades.Rounding out the show will be pop-folk singer Danielle Ate The Sandwich who will perform one of the featured songs from the film. ABOUT THE FILM:Emmy-nominated filmmaker Michelle Boyaner (HBO's Packed in a Trunk) shares her complex and devastatingly tender journey caring for her long-divorced aging parents– her mother Elaine, who abandoned the family and left then 19-year-old Michelle to help raise her 5 younger siblings and is now faced with dementia, and her father Morris, once a brilliant Aerospace Engineer and now a hoarder unable to navigate his own world. A diverse mix of other families are woven in, each with their own unique challenges. Among them, you'll meet Esther, an entertainer whose daughters bring love and laughter to her last act, and Mike, who helps his mother Florence while raising teenagers as a single father. With humor and heart, the film explores not only the frustrations and fears, but also the transformative bonds that happen when familial roles are reversed. Is it a burden or a blessing? Maybe a little of both.Original Airdate: 6/4/2021
Danielle Ate the Sandwich is the stage name of pop-folk songwriter, Danielle Anderson. As you’ll hear in this conversation on my Tasty Brew Music Radio Show, Danielle got her start in Fort Collins, CO, and is now based in Kansas City, MO. Until the pandemic she had been touring nationally since 2009, after cultivating an online following from her homemade videos on Youtube. She has multiple albums of original music and has opened for the likes of Mumford and Sons, Jake Shimabukuro, and Suzanne Vega. She wrote the soundtrack to the Emmy nominated HBO documentary, “Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson.” Her songs are lyrically driven, performed on ukulele and guitar. She finds inspiration from her curiosity about death, science, religion, family dynamics, and her own emotions and experiences. Her songs can be thoughtful and serious, but she’s known for her quirky lyrical twists, and delivering witty and honest stage banter in her live shows. The Denver Post says, “Danielle Anderson is a tender singer-songwriter, a brazen humorist, a fearless young woman!” Enjoy my conversation with Danielle Ate the Sandwich.
Today's episode is with the delightful Danielle Ate the Sandwich. We met here in Fort Collins, back when Danielle still lived here, but actually first got to hear her sing in a Folk Alliance showcase. She then played a pretty magical show in our house series and we have been fans ever since. Danielle has a fantastic voice, and she writes great song as well. But on top of all of that, she has impeccable comedic timing which makes her live shows just so much fun. Please visit her website, buy some merch, and join her Patreon page if you can. And when we get back to live music, do not pass up a chance to see her in person. http://danielleatethesandwich.com/ https://www.patreon.com/DanielleAtetheSandwich

Hi Podcast Listeners! The Break the Business Podcast is celebrating its 50th episode, and we have a terrific show for you to enjoy. This week, we have great music industry advice, comedy sketches, and some former guests stop by to congratulate Ryan and Dave on the Big 5-0. In the first segment, Ryan and Dave discuss the recent David Byrne article in the New York Times about music streaming and who's to blame for artists making little money off of platforms like Spotify. While it is easy to blame the streaming companies, perhaps the blame might lie with major labels who are using mysterious deals to siphon money away from signed and unsigned artists alike. In the second segment, indie folk artist Danielle Ate The Sandwich stops by. We talk with her about her awesome stage name, her experience composing a film soundtrack, and her Kickstarter campaign for her latest album "The Terrible Dinner Guest," which is coming out next month. We premiere a track off her new album on the Podcast! Visit https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/daniellesandwich/support-danielle-ate-the-sandwichs-terrible-new-al right now to support her campaign. You have a couple days left to contribute. Do it! She's a great artist. In the final segment, Ryan commemorates the Podcast's 50th episode by performing a song on his ukulele about the Podcast. Unlike Danielle, Ryan is not a great musician. But he tries so hard. "A" for effort! Ryan and Dave also discuss a real-life Star Wars Cantina that is being built and we also give you Dave's Metal Minute. Happy 50th! Thank you all very much for listening.
