Questions to consider: “The Performance of Love vs. The Presence of Love” How many people say “I love you” when what they really mean is, “Please don't leave me”? Are some people in love with connection… or addicted to being emotionally worshipped? How much of your “love language” is actually a sophisticated survival strategy? Have modern relationships become mutual performance contracts disguised as intimacy? How many couples secretly maintain the relationship because the image of the relationship benefits them? What if your partner knows how to manage your emotions better than they know how to genuinely connect with you? Can somebody perform affection so convincingly that even they believe the act?

In this episode of Lipstick on Labcoats, we explore one of the most psychologically unsettling shifts of the digital age: why artificial intelligence is beginning to feel emotionally alive to humans—and why humans are responding in kind.As AI systems grow more conversational, responsive, and emotionally adaptive, people are increasingly forming bonds with machines that were never conscious to begin with. But attachment doesn't always require mutual awareness. It only requires consistency, attention, and the brain's ancient wiring for connection. From neuroscience and attachment theory to simulation, loneliness, and the economics of emotional engagement, this episode asks difficult questions: Are we projecting humanity onto machines—or are machines revealing something about us? At what point does simulated empathy become emotionally real for the user? And what happens when intimacy itself becomes an engineered experience?A deep dive into the blurry boundary between interaction and relationship, and the quiet transformation of companionship in the age of artificial intelligence.

My guest today is Robert Gardiner, Chairman and Co-Founder of Grandeur Peak Global Advisors. Robert has over four decades of experience investing in small and micro-cap companies across global markets, and in this conversation, he shares how his core investment philosophy has remained remarkably consistent over that entire period. His approach is rooted in bottom-up research — identifying high-quality growth businesses early in their lifecycle, partnering with strong management teams, and maintaining strict valuation discipline. A major theme of this episode is why Robert believes the most compelling opportunity in micro-cap investing today is outside the United States. He explains how international micro-cap markets now resemble the U.S. micro-cap environment of the 1990s — a time defined by a large and growing universe of public companies, limited institutional coverage, and meaningful inefficiencies. We discuss why regulatory changes and the rise of private equity have shrunk the opportunity set in the U.S., and why regions like Japan, the UK, and the Nordics now offer what he describes as “mouthwatering” opportunities. Robert also walks through Grandeur Peak's two-phase investment process — starting with rigorous quantitative screening across a global universe of roughly 35,000 companies, followed by deep qualitative research that emphasizes direct engagement with management and extensive on-the-ground company visits. We talk about why “touching the company” still matters in an era of AI and data abundance, and how global “dot connecting” can make investors better decision-makers, even in domestic portfolios. Finally, Robert shares lessons from a recent three-year sabbatical that prompted meaningful refinements to both process and culture at Grandeur Peak — including the importance of balancing breadth with depth in research, reinforcing buy and sell discipline, and building a firm culture where every team member feels true ownership. This is a wide-ranging conversation that touches on global markets, micro-cap inefficiencies, investment process, leadership, and long-term perspective from someone who has seen multiple cycles firsthand. But what happens when those warnings go unheeded? When survivors begin to see the same horrors they faced be inflicted onto others decades later? In this conversation, Mehdi sits down with Stephen Kapos – an 88-year-old British-Hungarian Holocaust survivor, who was forced to go into hiding at the age of seven, was separated from his mother and father, lost 15 members of his family to the Nazi concentration camps, and witnessed the total destruction of cities during the war. Today, Kapos has become one of the most vocal pro-Palestinian voices among Jewish Holocaust survivors.“What I saw then was a by-product of two armies fighting, and what I see in Gaza is deliberate destruction. It's even worse,” Kapos says, comparing the scenes of rubble and dead bodies in 1944 and now. He also reflects on his trip to Israel in the 1960s and what he was shocked to find even back then.Mehdi also asks Kapos about those who have cited similarities between Donald Trump's fascistic leadership in the US and Nazi Germany in the 1920s and 30s. Kapos says it's “absolutely” a fair comparison.Watch the full interview where the two discuss Kapos' experience as a Jewish, pro-Palestine activist, his rejection of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of antisemitism, and why he will continue to fight for the children of Gaza.Free subscribers can watch a 3-minute preview of the conversation. Why does the New Mass Resemble Protestant Services? – The Catholic Mass #43

Today we take a sobering look at the similarities between the New Mass and Protestant liturgies. Father explains how changes made by Luther and Cranmer in the 16th century—reducing the priesthood, eliminating sacrifice, and downplaying the Real Presence—are echoed in the Novus Ordo. We examine how a Mass shaped by ecumenism and a new theology ends up looking more like a Protestant service than the Traditional Latin Mass. This episode lays out the evidence, side-by-side, and asks: Can we worship like Protestants without thinking—and believing—like them? The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. When the monkeys assemble, He divides it with them, and when the monkeys have their bellies so full that they won't take more, He breaks the pots. Sometimes, if He gets no opportunity to steal butter or milk from a house, He will be angry at the householders, and for His revenge He will agitate the small children by pinching them. Then, when the children begin crying, Krishna will go away.” (Shrimad Bhagavatam, 10.8.29)

In this episode, we journey to the snow covered heights of Mount Llullaillaco, where one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century took place. Over 500 years ago, three Incan children were sacrificed atop this towering peak in a ritual known as Capacocha. Their perfectly preserved remains tell a haunting story of faith, power, and survival in the harshest conditions imaginable. We explore the chilling yet awe-inspiring details of the Incan Empire's sacrificial practices, the cultural beliefs behind them, and the painstaking work of modern scientists who are bringing it all to light. Email: mummymoviepodcast@gmail.com Patreon: Mummy Movie Podcast BibliographyAudioTorpedo. UKRAINE ARMOR BRIGADES IN THE KURSK SALIENT RESEMBLE THE SHERWOOD RANGERS WAR-FIGHTING, 1944-45: 1/8: Brothers in Arms: One Legendary Tank Regiment's Bloody War from D-Day to VE-Day, by James Holland https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08YS123SZ/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i0 In the annals of World War II, certain groups of soldiers stand out, and among the most notable were the Sherwood Rangers. Originally a cavalry unit in the last days of horses in combat, whose officers were landed gentry leading men who largely worked for them, they were switched to the “mechanized cavalry” of tanks in 1942. Winning acclaim in the North African campaign, the Sherwood Rangers then spearheaded one of the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944; led the way across France; were the first British troops to cross into Germany, and contributed mightily to Germany's surrender in May 1945. Inspired by Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers, the acclaimed WWII historian James Holland memorably profiles an extraordinary group of citizen soldiers constantly in harm's way. Their casualties were horrific, but their ranks immediately refilled. Informed by never-before-seen documents, letters, photographs, and other artifacts from Sherwood Rangers' families—an ongoing fraternity—and by his own deep knowledge of the war, Holland offers a uniquely intimate portrait of the war at ground level, introducing heretofore unknowns such as the Commanding Officer Stanley Christopherson, the squadron commander John Semken, Sergeant George Dring, and other memorable characters who helped the regiment become the single unit with the most battle honors of any ever in the British army. He weaves the Sherwood Rangers' exploits into the larger narrative and strategy of the war, and also brings fresh analysis to the tactics used. Following the Sherwood Rangers' brutal journey over the dramatic eleven months between D-Day and V-E Day, Holland presents a vivid and original perspective on the endgame of WWII in Europe. .1943 T-34 OREL LIBERATION
