People keep asking me “Where is your Freelance review”? You seriously thought I was going to sit down and write a review of this? There was no way I was going to spend more time writing a review than they actually spent writing Freelance. The only way I was going to review it was by talking it out with my homie, Chris Bumbray of Joblo.com, like the two seasoned pros that we are.So this entire episode is about Freelance, which stars John Cena, Alison Brie, and is directed by Pierre Morel, director of one of the greatest action movies ever, District B13. But because this is us and Freelance is a “special” kind of movie, we go off on a few tangents so excuse us.Enjoy this bit of silly fun.Subscribe to Punch Drunk Critics on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@PunchDrunkCritics1Follow Punch Drunk Critics on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/pdcmoviesFollow Punch Drunk Critics on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pdcmoviesYou can also subscribe to Cinema Royale anywhere you get your podcasts! linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema This February at Catching Up On Cinema is “NOT Made in America” month! All month long we'll be reviewing foreign films that have garnered American remakes. This week, Trevor forces Kyle to join him in reviewing Pierre Morel's, District B13 (2004)! The feature directorial debut of Luc Besson protege Morel, this French import is notable for serving as one of the earliest and most prominent showcases of parkour in mainstream film. Starring one of the founders of the art form, David Belle, as well as fellow as traceur and stunt maestro Cyril Raffaelli, the film is lean, fast paced, and occasionally breathtaking in instances where the dialogue takes a backseat to acrobatics and techno music. While far from perfect, and difficult to recommend to all but the most ardent of action movie fans, the film is nevertheless memorable as an important bullet point in the history and progression of trends mid-2000's action cinema. Episode 206: District B13 Do you like movies? Do you have no friends to talk to about movies? If your answer to both questions is "yes" then I just have one more question for you: do you like to f**king party? Welcome to Keystone Copycats With Chris and Zach! They pay me an obscene amount of money to describe what episodes of their podcast are about and so far I have a very tenuous grasp on what my job actually entails. This week, our amiable hosts use the Break Points established in episode one of this season to discuss the French action film "District B13". I don't speak French so I sat this movie out, but somehow the Keystone boys managed to make this episode one of their best of all time. Talking points include: developing prowess at playing promotional burger video games, zombie wet dreams, turning down 5 Bezos Bucks, and getting cucked by college. "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..." Have things reached a point where the world desperately needs a hero to save us? Find out with the twelfth episode of Pop Art, the podcast where my guest chooses a movie from popular culture and I, in turn, will choose a film from the art/classic side of cinema. This time, my guest, screenwriter and producer Ann Kimbrough, has chosen everyone’s favorite Christmas movie, Die Hard, and I, in turn, have chosen the French parkour/martial arts classic District B13, in which the lives of a group of people rest in the hands of some unexpected heroes. And here we discuss such topics as: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? What part did Cybil Shephard’s pregnancy have to do with everything? To parkour or not parkour? What is the lasting influence of Die Hard? How does the movie Taken fit in? Is this the end of French cinema as we know it? What can screenwriters learn from these movies? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/howard-casner/support
