POPULARITY
For 30 years, the SUPERMAN HOMEPAGE has been the Internet's prime spot for anything and everything SUPERMAN. The site's owner, Steve Younis, joins Shawn to discuss all things Man of Steel! During their conversation, Steve shares the origins of the Superman Homepage in the early days of the Internet, how the site started to gain traction during the late 90s as Tim Burton's SUPERMAN LIVES production, and how the site's popularity exploded when SUPERMAN RETURNS went into production. Shawn and Steve also discuss their anticipation of James Gunn's new film and speculate on what DC has in store for Superman fans during Cinema Con (April 1) and Superman Day (April 18).
Alex Ford's Superman: Man of Steel After Tim Burton's Superman Lives was canceled, Alex Ford wrote this script for Warner Brothers, pitching it as the first installment of a planned seven-film series. This concept generated some intrigue, but Ford eventually parted ways with Warner due to creative differences. This version of Man of Steel is separate from both Man of Steel (the proposed sequel to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns) and Zack Snyder's Man of Steel reboot. EPISODE 5 - Break The Cycle - “Look At Me & Try To Remember”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Happy Halloween Sam! What is your favorite spooky Superman story?Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 5 - Break The CycleDirected by:Elizabeth HenstridgeWritten By:Adam MallingerThe Apple TV and Imdb description is: Lois makes increasingly bold moves as she tries to stop Luthor. Jonathan struggles to balance his personal life and responsibilities, while Clark learns an unsettling truth.Henry's Notes:Oooh flashback!Another interesting Luthor twist is that he was in a long loveless marriage. Usually he's sort of a playboy. So the distance from Luthor's daughter started when they were married“Milton is looking into it”“Superman Lives!”Teenagers being excited about a trunk full of fireworks seems like a very small town thing. Confirmed? “Let's go get the keg.”Ok wait, now the local folks know Clark is Superman. Oh for fucks sake. Why are the writers doing this with 5 episodes left?Superman appealing to Lex as a father is so on brand. Why is Candice back?Pretty cool that Elizabeth Henstridge directed and guest starred in the episode. I didn't watch Agents of Shield. Was she a big deal? In another life she would've made a good Lois Lane. Ooooh Kryptonian tech so Lara can see the fight. Kryptonia VR, I told you they had video games in the Fortress!Jon is kinda dressed like Marty. Also this side story with Candice is bullshit and a waste of time. A kid in their class knows Clark is Supermanbut they're not pursuing that? The Lex flashbacks were really good. Very much like lex luthor the unauthorized biography - 1989The balls on Lois Lane to face off with Doomsday. I love it, that's the Lois Lane I know and love. So great to see Bizarro world flashbacks. Oh my god Lois got through to Doomsday Follow us on twitter at https://x.com/SupermanPalsPod!Check out a video version of this episode at https://www.youtube.com/@gonzo3249! Click subscribe!

We talk about a 2015 documentary about the arduous road of trying to get a Superman film made starring Nic and directed by Tim Burton.
In this second and final episode of Superman Lives Season Two, I wrap up my celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Deathand Return of Superman saga by discussing the Reign of The Supermen and The Return of Superman arcs.
Following the success of Tim Burton's Batman 1989 movie, Warner Bros commissioned the Kevin Smith to write a new take on the Man Of Steel, directed by Tim Burton. Complete with giant spiders, polar bears, and more, this movie would have been a very interesting take on the Man of Steel. But this movie would never see the light of day as WB would can the movie after the bomb of batman and Robin. Join the Comics League crew as they do a deep dive into this film and if it would have been successful! Discussed in this episode: 1. The plot of Superman Lives 2. Why it was canned 3. If this movie would have been successful 4. Celebrating 200 episodes of Under Two Capes 5. The plans for the podcast in 2024 Superman has certainly had a very fascinating history on film, and this story testifies to the monumental mess up that WB has been to the DC IP. What do you think? Would you have seen Superman Lives? Would the movie have been successful? Should WB have canned the movie? By the time 1997 rolled around, the words ‘superhero movie' were turned into a joke. There were successful bad ones (Batman & Robin, which we reviewed last year) Generally ok received flops (1994's The Rocketeer) and just flat out bad ones (1996's The Phantom, Spawn). Even Superman, the one that started them all had not recovered from its all around bad fourth film from 1987. But all this didn't stop produced Quincy Jones from visiting the world of Superman. Or did he? Listen in as the boys review perhaps the most forgotten film in superhero cinema. In fact it was so forgotten that Garrett didn't even want to review it when Matt put it on the schedule at the 11th hour. They go over those discussions, as well as the development and eventual cancellation of the infamous Superman Lives, which would have starred Nicholas Cage, been directed by Tim Burton, and had a script written by Kevin Smith.

"You and me get Superman, wanna know why? 'Cause we're from the streets." Rob and Alan pore through all three drafts of the legendary never-made film "SUPERMAN LIVES", examining each draft's huge differences and quirky charms. What surprising similarities do these scripts have with later Superman films? Would Nicolas Cage have triumphed as the Man of Steel or would he have gone down in history as the greatest miscasting in comic book cinema? Why a giant spider? What exactly did Jon Peters think Superman was? How great would the Kenner toyline for this film have been? Stay till the VERY end for this one! PLUS! We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. It's a bonus episode and this week we're taking a look at Tim Burton's unmade Superman film, Superman Lives. An epic journey of a film production only to have it fizzle at the end and you'll hear about it all here.
In this episode of Film Stories with Simon Brew, the film that gave Tim Burton his first hit in over half a decade, and a golfing comedy that took a bit of a path to the screen.Director Tim Burton lost around a year of his working life when the planned Superman Lives film with Nicolas Cage collapsed. Which is when a script to Sleepy Hollow - that had been sat in Hollywood development for years - was sent in his direction. The script for the charming The Phantom Of The Open originally got no traction at all. As such, its story was published in a book, an option was taken out on said book, and the process had to pretty much start all over again.Find Simon on Twitter at @simonbrew, and the podcast can be found at @filmstoriesSupport this podcast: www.patreon.com/simonbrew.Find our print magazines at store.filmstories.co.uk Hosted on Acast. Recent news suggests that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel character will be returning in a future film to face Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam. Much was made about this possibility by Zack Snyder fans and others who seem obsessed with the idea of Superman fighting. We continue our odyssey into Development Hell to wrap up our dissection of Tim Burton's unmade Superman Lives! Having covered the origins of Jon Peters and the beginnings of this project through Kevin Smith's role in this story, we now focus in on Burton's vision for Nick Cage as the Man of Steel in a story of the ultimate outsider. We cover the cavalcade of wildly talented artists involved, the utter pain in the ass that Jon Peters was for basically everyone involved, the panic spiral Warner Bros found themselves in, and just how the death of Superman Lives led to Superman Returns -- including as much as we could stomach of the absolutely buckwild idea J. J. Abrams had that cost us a Batman vs. Superman film written by the guy who wrote Se7en. We also touch on Warner Bros current woes following their merger with Discovery, as it seems like they've learned nothing from their mistakes. We hope that you enjoy the conclusion to this absurd story in which people are wildly in-character throughout, because sadly no one paid us $85 million not to do it. Settle in and wonder for yourselves whether Saved By The Bell's Zack Morris or Tony Shaloub would be your dream Superman. For our latest venture into Development Hell, we take on one of the biggest, most infamous examples of a film that never came to be: Tim Burton's Superman Lives. In the first part of our deepest dive yet, we start most people's first exposure to the story, Kevin Smith's story of getting hired to write the script. We examine Smith's story and dissect his script, but to really lay the groundwork for this tale we need to get to know the producer who hired Smith to begin with, Jon Peters. We relive the most intense and absurd of their filming experiences, revel in the early years of the View Askewniverse, ponder whether Jon Peters thinks Barbara Streisand can read, learn something new about sex worker hair trends of the 70s, and so, so much more. Listen as we rifle through the vast and numerous filing cabinets that hold this story, as we wish Warner Bros had done before Peters could get his hands on Supes' rights from the Salkinds. CW: Sexism, homophobia, violent behavior, comparisons to Donald Trump, mention of the Heidi Fleiss Hollywood Madame case -- and that's all just Jon Peters!
