On this edition of matches of the week, we preview two of the best first round matches. Men: North Carolina hosts Oklahoma State in a rematch of the 2021 NCAA regional. Oklahoma State head coach, Dustin Taylor, will renew his rivalry from his UVA days with the familiar Tar Heels.Women: Two top 25 teams, UCLA and Iowa State, face off in the Miami region. We have with us today a tennis coaching veteran in Dustin Taylor. Dustin has had two stints at the USTA and he was also the Associate Head Coach at the University of Virginia from 2014 - 2017 working with Coach Brian Boland where the team won three consecutive NCAA National Championships, one National Indoor Team Championship along with two NCAA Singles Championships. And while Dustin is no longer in collegiate coaching and no longer traveling as much helping guys on the pro tour, Dustin is still entrenched in the tennis industry acting as the Business Development Manager at HarTru LLC. In today’s show, Chris interviews Dustin Taylor. Having worked in the restaurant industry, Dustin has had a rather unique journey leading right up to Student Works. In his first year, Dustin managed to grow his painting business to $130,000. In his second year, with two of his friends helping him out, Dustin plans on scaling up his business to $350,000! We start this show with Dustin sharing some background information. Dustin had to go through abject poverty as a child. Unable to manage their meager finances, Dustin and his family even lost their home when Dustin was just sixteen. Determined to change the course of his life, Dustin immersed himself in his studies. After grade twelve, he enrolled himself at the Culinary Institute of Canada. After completing his studies, Dustin spent several years working in the restaurant industry until he earned the Journeyperson’s Red Seal certificate. In this segment of the show, Dustin shares how this experience of his taught him the different aspects of running a business. After this stint, Dustin worked for a bit in marketing. Here, he learned how to approach and sell to strangers. This show is full of some great nuggets guaranteed to help out new and aspiring entrepreneurs. Dusting shares the THREE key attributes of highly successful people – attitude, work ethic, and willingness to learn. Additionally, he reveals how his perspective has changed after spending a year at Student Works. Specifically, he talks about the “significance of leverage” and “value of relationships”.
