Nu blir det shownotes på engelska: Early June, Lena went to NOR Shipping, which is a large fair in the maritime industry held every other year in Lillestrom, just outside Oslo. There she met a friend of hers, Ally Cedeno, Founder and Owner of Women Offshore, which is an online network for women in the offshore industry, and they sat down and had a chat about how Ally does her podcasts. The podcast can be found on the www.womenoffshore.org website and on all podcast platforms.  Since this meeting started out by Ally interviewing Lena for the Women Offshore Podcast, she recorded this interview as well. As you can hear in the interview, she uses a Blue Yeti microphone and she records straight into her Mac.  P-O has edited the files in Hindenburg:  Voice profiler (generic) Noise reduction exported in -14 LUFS What do you think? ***This is a Spoiler Free Episode*** We preview the May & June, mentioning all the wide theatrical releases & the limited ones getting good early reviews. No Spoilers. Feat. Life of the Party, Beast, & THE SEAGULL - 8:26 May 18th: What May Finally Rival Infinity War Box Office. Feat. The Incredibles 2, Superfly, & Tag - 36:00 June 22nd: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom & Under the Silver Lake - 41:38 June 29th: Sicario 2, Uncle Drew, & Leave No Trace - 45:42 And we’re back. That’s not usually my line, but I (Also Mike) am thrilled we could get back in the saddle, which also happens to be Mike 1’s phrase. So there, I'm quoting my partner early and often in these show notes, and I guess, absence does make the heart grow fonder. In any case, one of us obviously missed the other, and we’re very happy to get back together to preview the May & June theatrical releases. Do stay tuned for our long awaited Avengers: Infinity War review episodes. We plan to get those out later in the week, followed by a countdown of all our favorites from Marvel Studios, where we’ll go 19 down to 1 and put a bow on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So of course, we begin by covering all the movies Avengers: Infinity War has been demolishing at the box office. With each date, we profile all of the wide releases and the limited indie releases that have gotten the most buzz and critical acclaim. It was a fun episode to record, and we riff like crazy. We begin talking about the female Christian Bale that is Charlize Theron and discuss the Oscar chances for Reitman, Cody, and Theron from Tully, which got pushed. The next week’s features Melissa McCarthy’s Life of the Party, and we cannot help but propose possible plot lines for The Seagull starring Saoirse Ronan, Annette Bening, and of course Brian Dennehy. We’re very afraid for Miss Ronan, but we’re thrilled Brian Dennehy is back in the saddle as well, more on him later. The middle of May includes two more Disney related tent poles in Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story. We have gut reactions to both of these series of trailers and look forward to hitting the theaters to see them both. First Reformed has a chance to be Oscary for Ethan Hawke, Paul Schrader, and Cedric the Entertainer by all accounts. Early June showcases some intriguing releases both wide and limited. There is serious Oscar buzz for Hereditary starring Toni Collette and Won’t You Be My Neighbor?. Of course, we can’t resist taking a trip back into our childhood channel surfing habits to discuss whether or not we were fans of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. The middle of June features The Incredibles 2, which might be irresistible, Superfly from Director X, and Tag, where guess who, Brian Dennehy is back again! We’re irrationally hyped once more. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom worries us both, and we’re intrigued by a limited release from the It Follows director. Sicario: Day of the Soldado also launches some red flags, but Uncle Drew might save that week for the guilty pleasure lovers that we are. A few more docs pique our interest as well. Please follow, subscribe, like, retweet, and share our stuff on social media. Thanks for all the help with spreading the word about our pod. We’re further along on our website, and we’re planning to record a bunch more pods over the coming month. So when reality does suck, do watch movies with us. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar, and we’re back!

May 15, 1919 - Winnipeg General Strike

Human Rights a Day

Winnipeg general strike begins 40 days of social unrest.Canadian soldiers returned from World War I to find war factories shutting down and bankruptcies triggering massive unemployment and rapid inflation. Knowing that many had profiteered from the war industry, the veterans resented their futile search for decent jobs, pay and working conditions. On May 1, 1919, the Building and Metal Workers Union of Winnipeg went on strike for better wages, prompting the Winnipeg Trades and Labour Council to expand matters into a general strike. On May 15, 1919, the city’s telephone operators, known as the “hello girls,” became the first of 30,000 union and non-union workers to take to the streets. It had been only two years since similar worker frustration had led to the Russian Revolution – a fact that so scared the Canadian government, officials quickly amended the Immigration Act and the criminal code to threaten strikers with deportation and imprisonment.Winnipeg’s mayor went even further, firing most of the city’s police officers for sympathizing with the workers. He then hired 1,800 special constables equipped with horses and baseball bats. Early June was marked with riots, the arrest of union leaders, protests and violence. Two strikers were killed and 34 wounded before union leaders wanting to prevent full-scale violence called off the general strike on June 25. Seven strike leaders were given jail terms of up to two years for trying to overthrow the government. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Artists that have been around the block a few times know that music is only part of a career in business. There are many opportunities to align themselves with projects they support.  When Ronnie Gilley approached artists such as George Jones, Lorrie Morgan, and Kix Brooks to come to Enterprise, Alabama, it was an easy sell with the construction of Country Crossings... a new country music extravaganza in the neighboring county, and BamaJam, a hot new music festival in Early June. We headed south to see what the buzz is all about.
