After paying dues for over a decade, THE FIFTH are putting the pedal down in an all-out push for higher ground with their debut full-length album from RFK Media “WE ARE ONE,” releasing May 2nd, 2025, on CD and all digital platforms worldwide. This potent collection contains twelve songs that clearly celebrate the band's strengths – strong anthems with blistering guitars and powerful vocals – while weaving classic rock roots with strands of modern melodic hard rock. Fronted by veteran frontman and former MCA recording artist Roy Cathey (Cold Sweat), affectionately known as “The Mouth of The South,” THE FIFTH also includes young guitar hero Justin Womble, bassist Jake Tripp (Gunshine), and drummer Gary “Zeus” Smith. The new album was produced by Chris McLernon (Saigon Kick, Cold Sweat); primary recording took place at Big Animal Studio (home of Shinedown) in Charleston, SC. Rockers everywhere are encouraged to pre-save and pre-order the new album via this link:http://lnk.to/thefifthband- RFK Media is offering bundles and discount options available at http://rfkmedia.com The new single “Blind” will be available as an instant advance download April 4th when you pre-order the album on iTunes. The stellar first single “Starlight” was released last year and supported by an intense full-production music video directed by Jaiden Frost (scroll down to view this epic clip). The release of their new album “WE ARE ONE” coincides with a headline performance at the 2025 M3 Pre-Party in Columbia, Maryland on May 1st, 2025. No strangers to the big stage, THE FIFTH has recently performed on the KISS KRUISE and toured with/opened for Foreigner, Nickelback, Blue Oyster Cult, Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Queensryche, Stryper, Kix, Hinder, Tantric and Saliva. They've also headlined countless bike events & festivals stateside and garnered rave reviews for their 2008 tour of Japan. The band's music has appeared in major TV shows such as “Grey's Anatomy,” “The Voice,” and the “2016 Summer Olympics” on NBC. After bearing witness to this relentless drive & perseverance and loving what they'd heard and seen, Ron Keel's team at RKF Media put a bullseye on THE FIFTH and was determined to make them the first act signed to the new multi-media company. “Their energy is infectious,” Keel explains, “and this is exactly the kind of band we can devote our resources to.Take a shot of THE FIFTH online at http://rfkmedia.com/thefifth and join the legion of fans that are truly “the fifth” member of this incredible band.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

We examine the song that introduced Brooks & Dunn to an unsuspecting country music world in 1991: their debut single "Brand New Man". In some sense, Kix & Ronnie were just continuing what George Strait, Randy Travis, and the famed Class of 1989 had already brought to the fore, but what is it about this high-octane Texas honky-tonker that yet felt like the ushering in of a new, or maybe a consummate, era of neotraditionalism?

This week on America's Podcast, we're thrilled to have the illustrious Travis Perrotta join us for a deep dive into the testosterone-fueled, hair-sprayed extravaganza that is “Cocked And Loaded” by L.A. Guns! Is this album oozing with swagger and spice, or does it go flatter than a soda left at the bottom of your car's backseat? No spoilers here, but let's just say we're navigating a musical minefield of high expectations and maybe a little chaos! As for our Tracks of the Week, we've got a lineup that would put any jukebox to shame! Mooger's cranking “Green-Tinted Sixties Mind” by Mr. Big, proving that sometimes you need a little nostalgia with your rock. Jerry's taking us to the “Sunset Grill” by Don Henley—where the only thing grilling is your ex's decision-making skills! Travis, meanwhile, is contemplating a “Cold Shower” by Kix, which we hope doesn't involve actual plumbing issues. And just when you thought it couldn't get any spicier, Marc wraps us up with “Heading For A Heartbreak” by Winger—because nothing says ‘let's have a great week!' like a ballad about emotional turmoil! So for now, folks, stay loaded and remember: life is too short to be cocked—or flat! Until next time, rock on!

Mark interviews Cathy Rankin and Ken Mary about Cathy's new single "Now You've Gone." On October 29, 2024, Cathy Rankin released her debut single “Now You've Gone,” featuring renowned musicians David Ellefson (formerly of Megadeth) Ken Mary (formerly of Alice Cooper) and John Ronson. The emotional track, inspired by deeply personal experiences, reflects on themes of love, grief, and ultimately hope. Prior to the interview, Mark shares comments from recent episodes, a personal update, and a word from this episode's sponsor. This episode is sponsored by the 2024 Novel Writing Storybundle - Only available until the end of November 2024.   In the interview, Mark, Cathy, and Ken talk about: Cathy's various family members who are musicians, her first exposure to music when she was young and how that impacted her creative life Getting into theatre, and acting, when she was little, but not having the confidence in music itself The first time Cathy had to perform a singing scene when she was acting in a film The difference between being a performing musician and being a live host Ken's background as a musician having toured with various different artists over the years How being the lead singer might be one of the more difficult positions to be in, since the majority of the audience focus is on them (rather than, for example, the drummer) The concept of the instrument choosing the musician rather than it being the other way around - and how that's the way it was for Ken and playing the drums How playing drums was never "work" for Ken no matter what type of band he was in The great producers that Ken has worked alongside over the years The way that Cathy and Ken first met and started to work together (When Jon Ronson asked Cathy to interview Ken about his most recent album) Cathy showing some of her poems to Ken and getting some feedback on the option to produce one of them into a song How everything in this production unfolded organically and the chemistry of Cathy and the musicians in producing the song The delightful lyrical and musical Easter Eggs that appear in the song The connection between Neil Peart's loss of his daughter and the loss of Cathy's nephew Christian and why the song is a tribute to both their memories What people who want to support the musical artists can do to help out   After the interview Mark reflects on three different things that came up in the conversation, including the magic of organic creativity, the concept of playing a character when on stage, and the value of art, music, poetry, and prose in expressing deep emotion and forging connections. Clips from "Now You've Gone" have been used with permission. Whether on stage, on camera, or in any crowd, Rankin brings a strong female voice to her music on every level. Never one to take a backseat, this force-to-be-reckoned-with doesn't just move fans with her powerful vocals, but also proudly reps the girls while holding her own with the guys. And, in Cathy's case, it's not just any ordinary "guys" that are part of her project, its renowned rockers David Ellefson, bassist (Kings of Thrash, Dieth, formerly of Megadeth), Ken Mary, Drummer/Composer/Producer (Flotsam and Jetsam, Great White, Fifth Angel, formerly of Alice Cooper and House of Lords), and guitarist John Bronson. This formidable line-up is on display on her new single, "Now You've Gone," with more music arriving soon. Cathy's natural inclination for music and performance was evident from an early age when she vowed she would be a singer and actor, and her dream never wavered. Her grandfather first influenced her love of music. An accomplished professional big band musician, he played saxophone, clarinet, flute, piccolo and piano, primarily by ear, practicing in his music room with Cathy paying close attention. This exposure, along with her grandmother, one of the first female violinists in the Scottsdale Symphony, and guidance from her big sister who played drums in the popular 80s metal band, Whiskey Blu, formed the musical foundation that would be a lifelong passion for this songstress. While Cathy's influences were wide-ranging, her original work is deeply rooted in classic rock woven with elements of blues, a touch of prog and at times even country, taking listeners on a journey reminiscent of the iconic frontwomen that defined female rock, such as Nicks, Wilson and Benatar. As a member of popular cover bands, Superhero and Daisy Train, Cathy spent years performing full time for thousands of audiences on countless stages, from Superbowl Fanfest, to corporate events, festivals and the Vegas Strip. Cathy is also co-host of the Metal Hall of Fame with Eddie Trunk (That Metal Show, Trunk Nation), and host of the annual Bubba Bash honoring Neil Peart. And through in-depth interviews with award-winning artists such as John Waite, Geoff Tate, Lita Ford, KIX, Winger, Fifth Angel, and more, Cathy has been able to share that education and inspiration with countless other passionate music fans. Ken K. Mary is an American musician who has worked as a drummer, producer, engineer, and record executive on over thirty-five albums. He has worked in genres from heavy rock to choral music. Mary is best known for his work with acts such as Accept, Fifth Angel, Chastain, TKO, Impellitteri, House of Lords, Bonfire and Alice Cooper, and is currently the drummer of Flotsam and Jetsam and Jack Russell's Great White   The introductory, end, and bumper music for this podcast (“Laser Groove”) was composed and produced by Kevin MacLeod of www.incompetech.com and is Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0

October 1985: hair was big, riffs were bigger, and rock was veering toward an electrified blend of glam, grit, and decadence. Metalheads and rock fans everywhere were tuning in to MTV, where every week, a new video was promised to capture their attention. This era was when albums weren't just records; they were statements dripping with attitude and energy. Bands like Quiet Riot, Ratt, and Mötley Crüe were heating the charts, and fans were hungry for high-energy anthems to keep the adrenaline pumping. Into this scene dropped Midnite Dynamite, the third album from Maryland rockers KIX, an underdog act grinding it out in clubs with a mix of hard rock bravado and glam-metal flash. For KIX, this was a make-or-break moment, a chance to pull up from the underground and make their mark with a record that didn't just play to the rock crowd but demanded attention.Building to a Big BreakKIX had been around since the early 80s, putting out two albums and gaining a reputation for their high-energy performances and raw sound. They were a staple on the Maryland rock circuit, where fans recognized their signature mix of tight musicianship, outrageous on-stage antics, and the ability to turn a live show into a real experience. Despite the grind, KIX hadn't yet found a breakout record that would push them to national attention. That's where Midnite Dynamite comes in—this album was set to be a game-changer, and the band knew it had to deliver.Enter Bob Halligan Jr.: The Songwriter Who Got KixWhen it came time to make Midnite Dynamite, KIX partnered with songwriter Bob Halligan Jr., a musician with a gift for digging into a band's core and translating it into unforgettable tracks. Halligan's resume included writing credits with Judas Priest, so he knew a thing or two about blending melody with the heaviness that KIX needed to reach new fans. Initially, Halligan admitted he thought they'd meant KISS when he heard the name “KIX.” But once he met the band, the creative spark was instant, especially with bassist and primary songwriter Donnie Purnell. The Dynamic Duo: Halligan and PurnellDonnie Purnell was the force behind KIX's sound, with a drive to keep each song fresh and meaningful. Together, Purnell and Halligan struck a balance, crafting lyrics and riffs that stood out from the era's typical glam-rock fare. Halligan brought in elements that polished KIX's raw power without taking away the band's edge. With a focus on memorable choruses and punchy lyrics, their collaborative magic helped produce songs that would resonate long after the first listen. For Halligan and Purnell, Midnite Dynamite wasn't about writing cliché rock songs—it was about giving the audience something they hadn't heard before. Tracks like “Walking Away” became anthems for teens going through the highs and lows of young love, while “Sex” offered a tongue-in-cheek take on rock's fascination with romance. Instead of glamorizing indulgence, KIX's songs had humor and perspective that elevated them above the typical fare of the day.One of the things that makes Midnite Dynamite stand out is its dynamic range. The album plays with tempo and mood, jumping from high-energy riffs to introspective moments, keeping listeners on their toes. Lead singer Steve Whiteman's vocals add to this dynamic, often hitting octaves higher than the songs were initially written for, adding an electrifying edge to each track. Halligan also brought a production approach similar to Def Leppard, using digital drums to layer the sound and make the album feel slick without losing its rawness. The Legacy of Midnight Dynamite: An Underdog ClassicNearly 40 years after its release, Midnite Dynamite remains a cult classic, especially for fans who were there in the golden era of 80s rock. It's an album that captures everything we love about the era—huge riffs, clever lyrics, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of rock without losing its soul. For KIX, this album marked a turning point and solidified their place in rock history. If you're feeling nostalgic or want to experience the thrill of 80s hard rock, give Midnite Dynamite a spin. Whether you're an old fan or discovering KIX for the first time, this record captures the rebellious, energetic spirit of an era that rocked music to its core.Songs in this Episode* Intro - Midnite Dynamite * 24:36 - Cold Shower * 34:44 - Here She Comes Again (Night Ranger) * 46:11 - Don't Close Your Eyes * 52:20 - Walkin Away * 1:09:11 - Scarlet Fever * Outro - Bang Bang (Balls of Fire)Make Your Metal Voice Heard! In our quest to explore the depths of 80s metal, we rely on you, our listeners. But this is a new application for the tech, at least as far as I know: a Reddit user, who goes by the name “SedRitz”, challenged ChatGPT to “Write the most unattractive Tinder bio you can think of.” The result did not disappoint. Here is the savage response that he…or she…received in response:”42-year-old couch potato with a passion for complaining. Separatists led by Admiral Trench battle Republic forces led by Anakin and Mace Windu for the Republic shipyards on Anaxes. Rex has an idea of why things are going badly: analytics; the droids know Rex's strategies too well. They plan to take a small squad to the enemy Cyber Center, where intel is processed, to see if they can figure out what's happening. Before leaving, Rex and Cody chat about losing Fives, Echo, and Hevy during the war, which makes me feel bad for Droidbait and Cutup. Rex thinks Echo is alive, because their battle plans are old ones he and Echo drew up, and also because he has to remind us that Echo died several seasons ago.Rex and Cody leave to meet up with their squad for the mission: Clone Force 99, AKA The Bad Batch! Hunter, the leader! Tech, the smart one! Crosshair, the sharpshooter! Wrecker, the big one! These guys seem cool enough to have their own show. They join up with Rex, Cody, and 501st clones Kix and Jesse to find what the Separatists are using to outwit the Republic. Their gunship is shot down, and with a large number of droids incoming, the Bad Batch goes to work showing off their cool skills, which involve Wrecker lifting things, Hunter stabbing things, and Tech saying numbers while Crosshair shoots. The team infiltrates the Cyber Center, break into the computers and discover that the algorithm they've been looking for is a live signal from the planet Skako Minor. When they try to find out who is sending the signal, they get the answer 'CT-1409'. As the clones escape from the facility, Rex reveals that CT-1409 is Echo. Rex is trying to get support for Echo's rescue mission and Anakin suggests highlighting the goal of finding out how the Separatists are predicting their strategy. Did Anakin sexually contract politics from Padme? Then Anakin changes subjects and says that he and Rex need to do that ‘thing'. Rex excuses himself and follows Anakin.Rex watches the door while Anakin Space Times Padme who is positively glowing. Anakin and Padme have an actual conversation and look like they genuinely regret being apart. I think those two kids are going to make it. Anakin is worried about Rex being too attached to personal attachments, Padme suggests that Anakin has made the same mistakes once or twice and Anakin actually cops to it.Obi-Wan rolls up on Rex and makes him sweat trying to find excuses for Anakin's chatting with his wife. Obi-Wan lets him them the hook and says that he hopes Anakin told Padme he says hello. Anakin hasn't grown too much because he looks pissed rather than embarrassed. Is Star Wars allowed to do ‘show don't tell', because that was a great scene. While on their way to Skako Minor Wrecker is working out with a G0NK droid. We told you Dave Filoni was a fan of this podcast. The clones land and are accosted by the aliens from Crystal Skull riding small dragons. Anakin is snatched and taken to their village. Anakin is rescued and it turns out the locals don't want the war to come to their planet.Meanwhile Admiral Trench calls Wat Tambor to tell him the clones are on their way. Wat thinks that the Techno Union has corporate neutrality, but Trench suggests that a black-ops squad might not have a JAG officer to advise them on rules of engagement here. The clones infiltrate the Techno Union base, Wrecker goes absolutely nuts on some droids, suggesting that some Gronkowski DNA might have been involved in his personal mutation. That party cruise is wild. The clones find a Vault-Tec stasis pod and it was Echo all along.https://twitter.com/ClosingCrawlhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/closing-crawl/id1530133296https://www.closingcrawl.com/Merch at: https://bit.ly/spacetimetm

Well, that was a nice little breather from having to come up with witty things to say every morning but while Marris walked more than he has in years and Angi spent two days throwing up from heat stroke, I was drunk and watching the Lollapalooza sets from the comfort of home. With that done for the year and Metallica looming, it only makes sense to look at cool things from childhood as a Daily Discussion Topic. Well actually, that was me trying to make this more appealing because we're really going to explore things the roadies weren't allowed to do as kids that others got to do. Spawned from a point about how the royal bloodline brats are not allowed to do certain things, it's actually kind of crazy how many restrictions are put in place. For example, no shellfish (because they might be poisoned "or something" according to Angi.) No travel together (obviously.) No wearing black during the day. They are not allowed to keep gifts that they are given. They are not allowed to play Monopoly as it tends to result in fist fights (or in this case, like duels to the death.) Even though the royal kids clearly have it bad, that wasn't to say there were things that Angi and Marris weren't allowed to do. For example, Angi was never allowed to have sleepovers because her mothers husband at the time was a drunk (like step father, like daughter.) Luckily, she was allowed to stay at other peoples house which I'm sure always went down like that episode of Roseanne where Becky got a hangover after drinking "tornadoes." As for Marris, he was not allowed to have sugary cereals which meant the Marris household was all Kix and Cheerios. However, when he would go to a friend's house, he was chowing down on Apple Jacks (which if you've tasted lately, are disgusting.) I can't think of things I wasn't allowed to do, my parents allowed us to be a bit out of control and latchkey so let's go to the Request Line and the roadies, shall we. Shane wasn't allowed to watch TV at all even though his parents got to enjoy it in the comfort of their bedrooms. Joanna was not allowed to go to concerts (like Bruce Springsteen) so she just stopped telling her mom where she was going. The assumption was she would go to a concert and get loaded. Tammy was not allowed to go to all night roller rink lock ins even though her brother was. Mike was not allowed to have a TV in his room which isn't as bad as Shane at least. Angi too was not allowed to have a TV in her room and everything she watched was monitored. Roger was not allowed to keep his KIϟϟ collectors cards because they looked like "devils." Sharri was not allowed to do after school activities, go to dances, do sports or cheerleading and she never figured out why her single dad would not allow it. As for Angi, she didn't get to do stuff as well but that's because she was poor. If you are looking for more roadie thoughts or have your own, hit up our Facebook group (Angi Taylor Show) and drop us a comment.

We open on Fives meeting with Shaak Ti. Shaak says that the chancellor wants the tumor. Shaak is going to take the tumor to the Jedi temple first, and Nala Sey protests.AZ3 runs into Fives in the halfway, and their clone guards aren't super good at the whole guarding thing. AZ lets slip that Fives is to be mindwiped and assigned to Sanitation duty. Fives is done getting the runaround and as it turns out an Arc trooper is more effective than four guard clones who never made it off Kamino. Imagine what he could do with Sanitation, probably some sort of Space Cloaca Maxima. Dave Filoni call me.Fives steals a ship and makes a break for it, but ditches it to swim back to the cloning facility. AZ3 is apparently a distant cousin to Lazerbeak and turns into a jetski. Meanwhile Nala Sey calls Darth Tyrannus. Tyrannus gives her marching orders: the Jedi must never know about the true nature of the inhibitor chip.Fives and AZ3 start doing science: the implant is foreign which means it's intentional. Fives starts taking off his helmet like he's the main character in a Marvel movie. Fives has AZ remove his own chip because he's maybe the best character in Star Wars? But do all clones have the chips? To the embryo farm!! Looks like all the clones have the chips.  Nala Sey interrupts and explains the truth: Sipho Dyas ordered the chips implanted. Fives is upset that the Jedi might have done this to the clones. Shaak shows up and Fives basically gets to the heart of the matter when he says that the chips have to be removed or the entire Grand Army of the Republic could be compromised.Nala Sey says that Fives should be terminated and that he is property. Interesting production note, Ayn Rand and the Daughters of the Confederacy have writing credits on this episode. Weird. Shaak says that he's actually property of the Republic, that and a lightsaber apparently carry the day. Fives and Nala Sey are to accompany Shaak and the evidence to Coruscant.Fives is drugged by Nala Se, right under JEDI MASTER Shaak Ti's nose, and then presented to Chancelor Palpatine.  Nala Sey insists the chip in every clone is fine, but Fives protests. Palpatine suggests he speak to Fives alone… So he can be more open and speak his mind. During this private conversation, Fives “attacks” Palpatine and is chased by Shaak Ti. She loses him when she orders a clone to “close the blast door”... always a mistake.Coruscant goes on lockdown looking for the wayward clone. Upon Anakin's suggestion, Mace instructs Anakin to conduct a “quiet investigation”... Anakin's strong suit. Fives goes on the run to a clone bar, the 79's. Fives explains to 501st clone trooper Kix what is going on and that he needs Anakin and Rex to meet him at some secret coordinates.Anakin and Rex show up at to meet Fives. He starts to explain what's going on with the chips and what's going on in his head… and in the process sounds a little cuckoo while explaining his theory. Palpatine's clone guards show up and shoot Fives… But not before he was maybe getting through to at least Rex, if not Anakin as well.Palpatine tells the Jedi that Nala Sey found out it was something in the water in Ringo Vinda, and that the Kaminoans have already developed a vaccine to administer to all clones. Palpatine and Dooku Spacetime (™) and congratulate themselves on covering up order 66.https://twitter.com/ClosingCrawlhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/closing-crawl/id1530133296https://www.closingcrawl.com/Merch at: https://bit.ly/spacetimetm

Ep. 236: CPH:DOX 2024 with Mads K. Mikkelsen on Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other, Kix, and much more Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw with your host, Nicolas Rapold. For this episode I journeyed to Copenhagen for the 2024 edition of CPH:DOX, and talked about my favorite documentaries from the selection with the festival's Head of Program Mads K. Mikkelsen. These include films about a Hungarian skateboarder growing up (Kix, directed by Dávid Mikulán and Bálint Révész), about the relationship between photographer Joel Meyerowitz and writer Maggie Barrett (Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other, directed by Jacob Perlmutter and Manon Ouimet), and about Brazilian love motels (Eros, directed by Rachel Daisy Ellis). We also discuss The Limits of Europe (directed by Apolena Rychlíková, featuring journalist Saša Uhlová), Balomania (Sissel Morell Dargis), La Base (Vadim Dumesh), Once Upon a Time in a Forest (Virpi Suutari) and the documentary that went on to win the festival's top prize, The Flats (Alessandra Celesia).
