Greetings and salutations, noble travelers! Gather ye close and lend thine ears. Lord Bender doth regale us with tales of his grand Spelljammer campaign and the valorous exploits of his gallant Giff sailor. Thereafter, we entertain inquiries from our loyal listeners pondering such matters as what Dungeon Masters desire most from their adventurers, whether our hearts favor the grand houses of mass-market tomes or the humble artistry of indie works, and how much tomfoolery may be endured before patience wears thin. Enjoy the merriment of the hour!

It's another “lagniappe” episode of the Gumbo podcast, this time with Mitchell Prudhomme, the director from Southern Board Game Fest! First, BJ and Mitchell chat up their recent visit to another friendly local game store (sans board games) called LVL 1 Gaming. Then, we dish about recent plays of Tag Team, Big Sur, and Origin Story. Plus, we throw in some lagniappe — our first impressions of ASIAN TIGERS: A STORY OF PROSPERITY, a crunchy mid-weigh euro from the team that brought you NIPPON and MADEIRA. Finally, it's time for some ENVIE! Mitchell and BJ chat about the games that they really, really, really want to play next. Sit back with a cold bottle of Barq's Red Creme Soda, grab your favorite meat-and-three from Theriot's Lunch & Catering, and enjoy another episode of Lagniappe from Board Game Gumbo! Tonight is a very special GeekNights. This is our 20th anniversary stream. GeekNights began on October 31 2005 and has continued for 20 years with no real breaks. We did a series of "beta" episodes even earlier to work out the show format and learn how to podcast. We've done 317 talks at conventions. We had a massive forum which we replaced with a smaller forum. And somehow we're still going!Related LinksForum ThreadGeekNights 20th Anniversary Special!Discord ChatGeekNights 20th Anniversary Special!Bluesky PostGeekNights 20th Anniversary Special!Things of the DayRym - Otakon 2006 - THE MUSIC VIDEOScott - WNUF Halloween Special
Opener: Please send in your comments, questions, or suggestions for next month's Feedback-focused episode Closer: When do you opt out of game night? Every year I pay special attention to Fairplay magazine's booth at Essen. In recent years, they've been great about sharing their Scoutaktion results on social media, too. Fairplay is primarily a German language print magazine for our hobby, but every year at Essen they do an additional service for our global hobby: they collect ratings for the first impressions of these new titles, and share them for all to see. Here's what they reported last year. Notice anything? The top rated game in the expert category went on to win the Kennerspiel a year later, and the same thing happened with the top-rated family category game winning the Spiel des Jahres! The predictions for later success & staying power aren't always that accurate, but they're always pretty good. They are definitely worth watching. For this episode I go through the 10 top titles in each of this year's Expert and Family categories for Fairplay booth voting. They call these their Scoutaktion reports. I've been following these avidly for a quarter-century. Amazing! -Mark

We disagree on many things, but we all agree on...post-apocalyptic child labor? What's up with This Room? A game box that Jayson's doctor won't allow him to lift. What have we missed? It's James and D here for an episode about dinosaurs! James has Dinosaur Island Rawr and Write to share with everyone, including how awesome his dinosaur park came out. Sadly, no stegosaurus. We then pivot to AI and it's use in writing a ttrpg campaign and where are the ethical lines for using it.
