I don't want to say that Edward is all in on this IP book, but as we were strolling through Target, he spotted a game. His pitch, “It's an IP, Dad. We need it for the book!” So, without hesitation, we added Buffalo Games's Tecmo Bowl to the cart. It wasn't that hard of a sale for me though. I loved this Nintendo game back in the day. While I prefer the Tecmo Super Bowl to its predecessor, I was not about to let this chance at nostalgia pass me by.In Tecmo Bowl, which came out this year, 2025, you and your opponent manage football teams in an effort to outsmart, outthink, and outscore them. We got home that evening, put on Sunday Night Football, sat down, selected our teams, and flipped the provided coin to start Tecmo Bowl. Let's see how it went.Trophy IdeaDirecting people to the get the games tab
Welcome Ye Gods of War! After a long and silent campaign upon the ashes of hiatus, the Filthy Casuals return to the field to speak of sacred miniatures and the art of battle! Jamie discusses his grand campaign of WWII miniatures, Mike confesses his love of G.I. Joe, and together they revel in the primal glory of painting apes wielding instruments of death. But soon, the vox crackles with the true call to arms - Adeptus Titanicus! AC reveals the saga of his three-year endeavor, Bender delivers the lore-rites of the God-Engines, and together we debate the might, majesty, and madness of this massively complex, ruinously expensive, and gloriously indulgent game of Titan warfare. For the Machine God, for the Omnissiah, - the Filthy Casuals march once more!

Welcome to the debut episode of our latest series, the Comic Book Keepers Book Club! At least once a month we will be bringing you an in-depth discussion breaking down comic runs, one-shots or graphic novels ranging from the iconic and beloved to the weird and wacky. Lance and Jeremy (The Geekly Grind) will be spearheading this new endeavor, while Chris will continue to bring the character deep dives. But fear not, Chris and Lance will still be recording together routinely. This premier episode of the CBK Book Club is all about the BRILLIANT time and reality warped anthology series, Assorted Crisis Events, by Deniz Camp, Eric Zawadzki, Jordie Bellaire, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Tom Muller and Wesley Griffith from Image Comics! Apologies for the error in this episode, we believed Assorted Crisis Events was a limited series, but to our utter joy, it is ongoing! We ADORED this series, I strongly recommend picking up the first trade paperback, available in stores NOW. We will always share the next CBK Book Club comic in the previous episode, so be sure to listen so that you can read and join in on the discussion. In the first episode of season 4, Dan Brown joins us to share about his love of hobby board games. He talks about transitioning from games like Monopoly to discovering the more advanced Carcassonne, which became his gateway into modern board gaming. Dan explores the relationship between game themes and mechanisms, saying he's drawn to games where these elements work together cohesively. He discusses his collection's evolution from simple games he could play with his family to more complex strategy titles, and touches on his fascination with observing how people interact with game systems. Dan emphasizes the tactile, screen-free nature of board gaming as an important escape from digital experiences, and offers advice for newcomers to the hobby on how to look for the right game for them.Guest BioAfter running boutique design firm EightShapes for 18 years, Dan Brown (he/him) struck out on his own, starting Curious Squid Design Lab to continue providing high quality information architecture and UX consulting to enterprise organizations. Through Curious Squid, Dan helps product teams build complex products to align with user needs while meeting business objectives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he produced the podcast A Lens A Day, conversations about information architecture, and currently co-hosts and produces the podcast Unchecked, the architecture of disinformation. It's time for another Mind Gap Podcast! This week, Doug and Justin figure out how long they'd survive in a horror movie. Of course, it's not just a simple answer as they have to first figure out what type of horror movie they're in. Bottom line, neither are going to live long. Once they solve that mystery, the dorks dive into their main topic, which board games ruin friendships the fastest? They go through the obvious culprits such as Monopoly and Risk but also discuss some outliers like Uno or Catan. Things are wrapped up with a new game called Patch Notes: Real Life Edition, where Doug reads out patch notes for real life and Justin has to decide if they're good or if they should be scrapped as garbage. We want to make a board game. It must, of course, teach the world about economics. It must be fun. It'd be nice if it sold lots of copies! How hard could that be!? (Monopoly and Catan are hugely popular and basically little economy simulators, after all.)Well, turns out, it's quite hard! We're in a golden age of tabletop games. Thirty years ago there were around 800 new games each year. Now it is more like 5,000. Just a handful of those get to be hits. When designer Matt Leacock decided to make a board game about climate action, he knew he wanted to make it – first and foremost – fun to play. “If we sold anything as an educational game… people would run screaming and running for the hills,” he told us. But can simulating the climate crisis really make for a good Friday night with your friends? What are the limits to gamifying social issues as complex as global warming? In this episode, we speak with Matt about what it took to design an entertaining game about one of the most challenging topics of our time, and enlist a few friends to playtest his game: “Daybreak.” Featuring Matt Leacock, with appearances from NHPR's Marina Henke, Nick Capodice and Hannah McCarthy.
