Potter Revisited Episode #99 The Roast of Ickle Diddykins AKA Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 1 "Dudley Demented" CW: Discussion of Suicide, PTSD We are starting OOTP! And we are almost at 100 Episodes! Tori discusses some OOTP book facts including an alternate death for Sirius and Mr Weasley potentially being killed Tori and Shay discuss their memories reading this book Did Taylor Swift write Father Figure for Arthur Weasley? (Note this was recorded before the release of TLOAS) Tori found OOTP a bit hard to relate to at 11 years old but is looking forward to revisiting it as an adult This is the first book that doesn't overly recap Harry's experiences in the first chapter Is it a red flag that Dudley doesn't know who the prime minister is? Sassy Harry is still here and we are so thankful Mrs Figg is back Harry being left to deal with the trauma from GOF with little support is hard to read but also more relatable as an adult Why is Hermione at Headquarters with Ron? Is there a reason besides making Harry more isolated and feeling alone? Dumbledore really set Harry up to fail in OOTP and we are not letting him off the hook Harry roasting Dudley is so deserved Quite exciting for a first chapter to have some action with the dementor attack What does Dudley see and experience from the dementors? We end with the reveal that Mrs Figg knows about dementors.... and potentially magic? Nick and John have posted eight Hallmarked Man conversations since its publication last month and, as interesting as their back-and-forth talks have been, South Wales to American Fly Over Country, Lake to Shed, much of the best theorizing and interpreting of Strike 8 has been happening in the comment threads beneath those posts and in email messaging with John. Determined that these insights wouldn't be lost or invisible to Serious Strikers, they chose ten of the most challenging for a fun introduction to the fandom conversations readers not privy to the backchannel moderators network or who neglect the comment threads are missing. In addition, Nick shares the credible speculation that Rowling's weeklong absence from tweeting has been because she is on her Samsara yacht in the South Pacific, circling Bora Bora, believe it or don't. John quizzes Nick, too, about the election in South Wales, Caerphilly to be exact, and the reason the results in that dependably Labour area have the UK buzzing (and why Strike readers might expect the populist party victories will color Strikes 9 and 10).A quick ‘table of contents' for their hasty review, then, followed by links and transcripts! Enjoy — and, yes, have at in the comment threads, please, the locus of Strike fandom conversations.* Ed Shardlow: Gorilla Ryan* Vicky: Boxes and Plush Toys* Sandra Hope: Traditional Symbolism* Justin Clavet: Only Fans Gaffe (Ed Shardlow -- ‘Not Proven' error)* Bora Bora* Justin Clavet: On Manhood* Ed Shardlow: Ickabog Parallel Book Theory* Sandra Hope: Hallmarked Man as Rowling's ‘Greatest Hits' allusion collection* LC - Dorothy Sayers* Kathleen O'Connor -- Alternative Incest* Caerphilly elections -- UK meaning* Ring Composition ProjectPromised Links and Transcripts:* Ed Shardlow's ‘Gorilla Ryan' TheoryThe Ryan the Gorilla theory came to me at the point in the book where Robin has an epiphany following an impulse to look up the meaning of a name. I think this was the Jolanda-Violet realisation, but I thought she'd suddenly realised the full extent of Ryan's dark side, with the significance being the previously noted meaning of his name “Sea King” suggesting a connection between him and Wade King. That theory seemed very flimsy at first, but on further examination it might have some mileage. There are some notable differences between the attack in the Land Rover and the previous ones. Although we imagine the attacker wearing a gorilla mask, there's no mention of it, and in fact it says she can see his face. Also the Land Rover attacker makes no demands that she, “Stop” or, “Leave it”. She hits Wade with the pepper spray, which of course, would be difficult for Ryan to cover up, but she didn't inflict any such injuries on the gorilla attacker. Wade clearly intends to hurt her, whereas the other attacks had no physical violence and look very much like they were just intended to scare her.1) It's hinted that Branfoot knows about Robin's rape, and she says it's on the internet, but we never get any indication that King or Griffiths know about it. Strike and Robin never consider that the attacker might be someone who knows about it because they're close to Robin. That seems like an oversight.2) The gorilla attacker never refers to a specific case. Murphy may be scaring her into quitting the job and getting away from Strike, whereas a suspect would want her to stop investigating their specific case.3) The police don't take the rubber gorilla and dagger for DNA testing. That's pretty strange, unless there's someone on the inside blocking the investigation. There's a bit of an issue with the guy in the green jacket, who presumably Robin can see isn't Ryan when he's on the industrial estate and outside her flat. Presumably that was Wade. So, there would need to be some explanation for how or why Murphy is wearing the same jacket when he accosts her with the ceremonial dagger. But that's not insurmountable.Murphy would have been very surprised to encounter Matthew (sic, he means ‘Martin' -ed.), who he knows from Masham, outside Robin's flat. The narrative very much prompts us to think there's something going on with Murphy, but then we put this down to his work issues and associated relapse, but perhaps that blinds us (and Robin) to another possibility. And if it is the case, then Strike hasn't just let Robin go to dinner with his romantic rival, but she's heading into mortal danger. Were his instincts subconsciously alerting him to the threat? Did he leave it too late to shout, “Brake!” again?Nicola Reed's Objection to ‘Gorilla Ryan' (Sandy Hope, too)Kathleen O'Connor's Cogent Counterpoint to John's Incredulity about No One Noticing How Short Faux-Wright was in the Ramsay Silver footageVicky on the Interpretation of Robin's “Stuffed Toy” DreamBrenna Hill asks ‘Why is the New Ellacott Puppy Named Betty?'Sandra Hope Jumpstarts Conversation about Traditional Symbolism in Hallmarked Man* Masonic Orb Pendant for sale on Etsy ($795)* Jacob's Ladder Mosaic in Masonic Hall, London (Alamy)* The Bohun Swan (‘Chained Swan') (Wikipedia)Justin Clavet: The ‘Only Fans' Gaffe· I commented on the Hogwarts Professor gaffes pillar [Placeholder, ed.] post about the OnlyFans error - that the OnlyFans website was launched in November 2016, but in the book, the murdered Sofia is said to be a prolific OnlyFans poster before her disappearance in June of that same year. The OnlyFans account is only a small point in this large plot, but one that is repeatedly referred to, and Sofia's OnlyFans account is what ultimately brought her to the attention of her killer. For such a meticulous plotter and, as John would say, “OCD” author as Rowling is, does this real-world chronological impossibility give you pause? What other big historical error like this can be found in her books?· Did you notice that the interview with the pornstar occurs in chapter 69? I think Rowling was having a bit of (structural) fun and winking at the observant reader with that one.* Justin Clavet's 3 September ‘Gaffes' posting about ‘Only Fans'The reference to OnlyFans in chapter 33 (p. 269) felt anachronistic to me, as I don't remember ever hearing about the website before the pandemic era. And sure enough, according to Wikipedia (citing a New York Times article), the website didn't launch until November 2016. Therefore, Sofia – who was murdered in June 2016 – could not have been a prolific OnlyFans poster. Sofia's supposed OnlyFans account is referenced several further times throughout the book. Based on data from Google Trends, it seems incredibly unlikely that Strike and Robin would have readily known what OnlyFans was in late 2016/early 2017. So Where is Bora Bora? The Caerphilly 2025 Election: Victories for Left and Right Wing Populist Parties* 2025 Caerphilly Bi-Election (Wikipedia!)* UK's Ruling Labour Suffer Crushing Defeat Against Political Insurgents at Ballot Box (Breitbart)Justin Clavet ‘On Manhood in Hallmarked Man'The biggest thing that struck me in this book was the persistent themes of manhood woven throughout: the responsibilities, relationships, and hardships of men. * The central crime is linked with a secretive fraternal organization. * It opens with the death of Strike's father figure Ted, a “proper man” (p. 38), by whose maxims Strike is newly resolved to live. * We learn that Ted would've murdered (or been murdered by) his father Trevik if he hadn't left home and joined the army (p. 39), just like Strike would have come to blows (or worse) with his step-father Whittaker if he hadn't left home and joined the army. * While he loses the man he called his dad, he has a real meeting with his natural father for the first time. Rokeby shares that, in Strike, he had produced a proper man” (p. 747). * Strike celebrates not having fathered a child (while Robin is distraught in the wake of her own lost child, and devastated that the option to be a mother may no longer be hers to choose).* Richard de Leon says that his brother Danny was made the way he is because of his father's mistreatment. * Strike is bewildered that Danny (who integrates his brother's Christian name into his porn name, Dick de Lion) and Richard could be so close and share so much with each other, contrasting this with his own relationship with Al. * Leda and Rena are both shown to have suffered because of the absence of their more stable brothers. * Strike observes that “men are seen as disposable in certain contexts” (pp. 107f).* Wardle, who is shown to be a caring and dedicated father to his young child, opens up to Strike about his depression and his marriage troubles. * Strike reflects on the shallow friendships he has with other men, and later sees how this kind of friendship can be toxic with the wrong personalities (in Powell, Pratt, and Jones, p. 860). * Strike fears Wardle may be at risk of suicide. Niall is found to have committed suicide after his brother in arms was horrifically executed by Islamist combatants. The public can't be bothered to care about the tragic loss of this man who heroically put his life on the line for his country - preferring instead to lend their attention to the spectacle of another man, Branfoot, who went to extreme lengths to indulge his basest and most perverse desires (p. 873).Like many events in this book, this theme - with characters showing genuine concern and thoughtful consideration of complex men's issues - is a mirror image of one presented in Troubled Blood with the character of Carl Oakden and his cynical men's rights grift. This barely scratches the surface of the notes that I took on this theme, which I saw running deep through the whole book. I wondered if I was just seeing this in the text because of my own perspective as a man, or if it really was there. Indeed, you could find hints of this theme in each of the preceding seven books. But the structural clues left me convinced it was intentional. And when I watched this video (https://robert-galbraith.com/robert-galbraith-discusses-the-case-in-the-hallmarked-man/) the day after finishing the book, there was no doubt.Justin Clavet on the Hallmarked Man Dedication and Rokeby's Gratitude· I connected the book's dedication to Sean and Nadine Harris with Rokeby's statement on p. 748, “Not everyone's got a mate called Leo ‘oo stops ‘em livin' rough” and that he attributes his artistic and financial success to his friend's generosity and charity.Ed Shardlow on The Ickabog as Hallmarked Man's Parallel BookConscious of the links between the first 7 books of the series and the Potter books, and with three books purportedly remaining in the series, I was primed to see a connection between The Hallmarked Man and one of Casual Vacancy, Christmas Pig or the Ickabog. I didn't have any predisposition to it being any of those. Even if Rowling is taking them in some sort of chronological order, there's reason to believe the orders of conception, writing and publishing may differ. At the end of Part One, I thought the Ickabog looked like the best fit based on the fact that the central mystery of who the body in the vault was has a certain similarity to the mystery of the Ickabog itself and whether it was real or a myth. The importance of the truth and the damage done by lies are fundamental to the Ickabog story, and I thought from the start those were major themes in THM.The other correspondences I've spotted:* The police, in various guises, like the royal guard play an important part, largely inept, self-serving, and perpetrators of miscarriages of justice.* The aristocrats - Lord Branfoot, Lady Jenson, Dino Longcaster - lie and deceive to protect their own interests, causing untold damage in the process.* There's terrorism, and terrorism being used to spread fear and division.* Ultimately Rupert and Decima, two sexes but one entity, produce an offspring that may have been defective or corrupted by the state of the world he was born into, but seems to have emerged happy and healthy. Daisy Dovetail having persuaded Rupert the Ickabog that humanity was worth making compromises for.* The main antagonist traps a woman in his house. I thought their names were Esmeralda and Sapphire, but it's Lady Eslanda not Esmeralda… But apparently Eslanda can mean emerald, or VIOLET, or truth… So Eslanda corresponds to both Sapphire and Jolanda!* We visit a feudal state* Ben Liddell – the soldier killed in an incident in a land where there shouldn't have been any military conflict happening and it being covered up by the government* Sandra Hope: The Footprint!Ed Shardlow, I can't wait for your show on the parallels between THM and the Ickabog!!! I just finished rereading both of them and I'm losing my mind! Omg, the footprint: “The Flaw in the Plan (ch32) is that the footprint is hopping (not so much terrifying as ludicrously funny) and Strike noting that the bearer of the footprint in the vault has a limp!! Please let this conversation happen soon!!Sandra Hope: Strike 8 as a ‘Rowling's Greatest Hits Album' of Allusions:Allusions that took my breath away:* Ectopic pregnancy- TB* Schadenfreude- CC* “So many babies”- not just born, but what they're born into- Ickabog borndings* Human trafficking ring- RG* Woman buried in/under concrete- TB* Staged murder involving mutilation- Silkworm* Violent attacks & subsequent PTSD- a Rowling theme in every book, but especially CE & LW* DNA testing & fatherhood- CV, TB* Guys trying to find right time to ask a potential partner a question- GOF lol* Valentine's Day mishaps- CS, TB* Behavior of abandoned mothers-Silkworm (& HBP), specifically Merope, Leonora, Decima (also Leda)* Journalism as a weapon- GOF, OOP, Silkworm, RG* Potential ill usage of mirrors- SSNot a complete list by any means lolLC – Dorothy Sayers Connection?I don't know if there is anything in my seeing parallels between Cormoran and Robin and Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vance (Dorothy Sayers): Peter and Harriet had a very long acquaintance before they finally got engaged, with lots of twists and turns. Peter goes deep undercover in an ad agency in one novel; the feel of it was very similar to Robin going deep undercover in Lethal White. Also, the Sayers novel “Five Red Herrings” also features five men--in this case, five men who could have been the murderer (instead of the victim). Sayers also had very intricate plots that were puzzles--and was a Dante scholar. I believe Jo has mentioned that she admired Sayers. I don't know if these are just interesting parallels that Jo is having fun with or not, but they certainly seem to be more than coincidences. Thanks!Kathleen O'Connor – Alternative Incest Big Twist IdeasI'm impressed by your arguments that we will see some shocking twists – in addition to the shocking twist that Rokeby is actually, in his old age, a good father to his mature son, Cormoran, and not at all the image-focused a*****e we have seen through Strike's eyes up to now. I don't think, however, we will find that Rokeby is not Strike's father. That revelation would dilute Strike's growth in terms of his realizations that he has been mistaken about many things that he has taken for granted in his life. Instead, I think instead we will see a continuation of Robeby's rehabilitation until eventually, like Snape, Rokeby makes some kind of big sacrifice to aid Cormoran or someone/something else important to Cormoran. Also, even though Strike does not physically resemble Rokeby, he does resemble Prudence: * “Seeing them face to face, Robin spotted her partner's resemblance to Jonny Rokeby for the first time. He and his half-sister shared the same defined jaw, the same spacing of the eyes. She wondered – she who had three brothers, all of the same parentage – what it felt like, to make a first acquaintance with a blood relative in your forties. But there was something more there than a faint physical resemblance between brother and sister: they appeared, already, to have established an unspoken understanding.” - The Running Grave And: * “In youth, Strike knew, Rokeby had been exactly as tall as his oldest son, though he was now a little shorter.” - The Hallmarked Man Maybe the big twist and incest plot is connected to either Switch or Whittaker. As we learn from Wikipedia in Career of Evil, Jeff Whittaker never knew who his father was. A strong possibility could be that Patricia Whittaker's own father, Sir Randolph, had gotten her pregnant with Jeff. In that case, keeping that secret – as well as simply keeping the baby away from Leda – could have been the motive for a Whittaker family member to have killed Leda. An even bigger twist might be that Leda did commit suicide, using exactly the method of Krystal Weedon, after she realized that she was Whittaker's sister. Would it be possible for Trevik to have met up with Patricia Whitaker in London and gotten her pregnant? Regardless of the incest angle, I do think we might find that Leda, whose life choices have not allowed her to develop the strength or discipline to face hard truths, may have committed suicide rather than cope with some kind of guilt (maybe she found out what happened to Lucy?). There are multiple examples that foreshadow these possibilities – off the top of my head, there are “naughty boy” wealthy aristos (Freddy Chiswell, Alexander Graves, Will Edensor, Jago Ross) who might parallel Sir Randolph or Jeff Whittaker, and multiple characters who confuse suicide with sacrifice or who simply cannot face what they have done (Cherie Gittins, Krystal Weedon, Yasmin Weatherhead). Rhiannon Winn and Ellie Fancourt both commit suicide because they cannot cope with the shame they feel as a result of others' cruelty. Also, I can think of two points that support your idea that we will find out some bad things about Ted. Number one, the revelations that Dumbledore was extremely flawed are crucial to Harry's story. In fact, I suggest that writing characters who are not merely “gray” but who are simultaneously really good and really bad is a “golden thread” of Rowling's work. And, number two, we hear multiple times that Ted taught Strike, “There's no pride in having what you never worked for” while Rokeby says “I don't wanna die wivvout knowin' ya. You fink I 'aven't got the right to be proud, maybe, but I am. I'm proud of ya.” I don't think it is an accident that Rowling sets up this opposition, and I also think she wants us to admire Rokey's desire to know his son. Fred and George also reveal the blackmail plot and how awful Ludo Bagman is Harry forcing the Twins to take his Triwizard earnings to start a joke shop is so moving and such a great moment - especially looking out for Ron and asking them to get him new dress robes This moment really shows Harry's wisdom and emotional growth The tone of this last chapter is interesting as everything is not completely resolved but their is still a feeling of hope going into OOTP We discuss our overall thoughts, favourite moments, final Snape Sucks count and characters that stuck out in this book Goblet of Fire movie review is coming soon, and then we will jump into OOTP! Potter Revisited Episode #96 Gaslighting AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 36 "The Parting of the Ways" We are now a Fudge Hate podcast After learning that Moody was actually Barty Crouch Jr and everything that happened to him, Harry still needs to sit with Dumbledore and tell him everything that happened Despite it all, Harry does ask about Cedric's parents Fawkes gives Harry the emotional support he needs, as well as Sirius Harry feels immediate comfort with Fawkes around - is this due to the wand or, or is this just what Phoenixes do? Fawkes is basically an emotional support animal at this point Could Dumbledore just have gotten Harry's memories of the events instead of making him relive it? Dumbledore keeps telling Harry he did beyond what was expected of him... but what was expected of him? Dumbledore's "gleam of triumph" What does it mean? We learn brother wands can't attack each other - what was Olivander doing making these wands in the first place? Sirius is visibly shocked and upset about the ghostly apparitions of James and Lily - is he reliving his own trauma from their deaths? Dumbledore does show Harry a lot of care in the aftermath, which is starkly different to how he treats Harry in OOTP Dumbledore: "What matters isn't what someone is born but what they grow to be" - very interesting quote in regards to the series Note: We do discuss the author's transphobic views in relation to this quote Mini G comes in yelling at Fudge - good for her Fudge came in and got rid of the "evidence" and then complains about the lack of evidence Fudge gaslights everyone SO hard Fudge shows the ugly side of his character with how he treats Harry and avoids responsibility to to see reason Why is Fudge coming to question the suspect rather than a trained professional like an Aurror? Fudge seems suspicious - the way he acted seems like he was in on a cover up Cedric's parents deserve answers in how he died Interesting when Harry names Lucius Malfoy as a Death Eater, Fudge brings up the fact that he is from an "old family" that donates a large amount of money, so he is obviously innocent - something we see a lot today Snape shows Fudge and everyone around his dark mark - is this pretty brave of him? Sirius reveals himself to everyone, and Snape realizes that Dumbledore has been gaslighting him for a year It feels naïve the way Dumbledore tries to have Sirius and Snape burry the hatchet - he expected too much as they have too much history Sirius and Snape leave to do their part of Dumbledore's master plan, and Mrs Weasley steps in to support Harry Harry describes the hug he gets being like from a mother - which has so much emotional ties with everything he has been through It is interesting how this chapter closes everything yet everything is not resolved and won't be going into OOTP - really a new beginning Last chapter and wrap up for GOF coming soon! Potter Revisited Episode #85 Petty Pyjama Party AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 25 "The Egg and the Eye" Harry decides to finally use Cedric's advice and use the Prefect bathroom to take a bath with the egg We get why Harry suddenly thinks he should be a Prefect - just for the bathroom perks This bathroom sounds like goals - a bathtub as big as a pool? There is a lot of recapping from previous books in this chapter - is it really necessary? Seems to be a big theme of it in GoF specifically Myrtle is back! We are cursed with that scene from the GoF movie Why does sewage exist in the magical world? Interesting to see a bit of Myrtle's backstory after she died - how much control does the Ministry have over ghosts? Interesting that when learning the Merpeople will take something from him, Harry is thinking of objects, like his firebolt Harry is so chaotic, deciding to go investing who is in Snape's office in the middle of the night Why didn't Harry use a summoning charm to get the map back? Filch and Peeve's beef is so great Shay loves analyzing Filch and Peeves as the ID and Super Ego All the profs are showing up in their PJs - what an image Snape does not want to share what is going on with Moody - does he suspect Moody is an imposter? Lots of Death Eater foreshadowing from Moody Moody gaslights Snape so hard Moody suggests that Harry should be an aurror - is that just an off comment since this Moody is an imposer This idea of being an aurror sticks with Harry throughout the series - was this the best career choice for Harry? We discuss the trios careers post-Hogwarts and what we would imagine their lives after the series to be Snape Sucks total for Chapter 25: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited

Bird flu, formally identified as H5N1 flu, is a virus that is being found in wild and domestic birds, as well as occasionally in cattle. This particular avian influenza virus has been around for over 26 years and has been extensively studied. Despite the alarms raised about ‘bird flu,' there are only rare examples of human infection from this virus, especially in developed countries. Despite the rarity of human infection by the H5N1 virus, the CDC, FDA, WHO, and other agencies overseeing disease spread have been pursuing the creation and manufacture of H5 vaccines for defense against H5-type viruses, including the H5N1 virus. We have been among many, including here and here, who are critical of the biolab industry that participates in genetic manipulation and gain of function (GoF) experiments with viruses and other pathogens. The stated purpose is to prove that a harmless virus can be reengineered in a lab into a pathogen to show that nature could do the same thing. Thus, billions of dollars and untold thousands of hours and the most advanced biotechnologies have been utilized to reengineer harmless bat viruses into SARs CoV viruses. But it says nothing about the possibility of this happening in nature. Instead of nature producing potential pandemics, the mad globalist scientists in the service of the military-industrial complex are making them in their own labs. Many are calling for the end of gain-of-function research because it is a huge financial drain, it produces accidental exposures to pathogens, and it is part of the biowarfare industry that needs to be reined in. The pandemic industry is a multibillion-dollar operation, even when there is no epidemic or pandemic outbreak. An expanding collection of international organizations and non-government agencies, as well as many national organizations, are tasked with surveying, identifying, quantifying, and treating disease outbreaks. This conglomerate is a highly dangerous arm of the global predators and a favorite weapon against humanity. It is one of their primary avenues for terrorizing and controlling us. Disease Monitoring and Treatment Becomes Weaponized As we discovered in the COVID-19 outbreak, the entire international and national health industry, from monitoring diseases to treatment of sick individuals, has been weaponized. Perhaps, once upon a time, health and pharmaceutical companies were oriented to preserve health and prevent disease and death—at least, that is what we are told. But no more. Health and pharmaceutical industry agencies and organizations are profit and control-oriented. Fortunes have been made promoting “diseases” and ‘treatments.' But now disease control is also being misused to test and enlarge the degree of control citizens will accept and the amount of freedom citizens will forfeit and ask their fellow citizens to forfeit in order to “be safe.” Weaponizing Fear of Disease Fear of disease has become one of the most potent means of controlling a population. This has spawned a field of study called the “parasite stress hypothesis.” Our guest on today's show, Karen Kingston, brought this to our attention. The parasite stress hypothesis examines the correlation between the high prevalence of pathogens and a population's increased vulnerability to totalitarian governance. At the center of our psyche, we want to survive. We don't want to die. Disease can bring death, and avoiding illness is part of avoiding premature death. We all learned as children to trust doctors to help us stay well or to heal, and the science we were taught was based on fact and was considered the truth we could trust. Civilian populations still maintain a degree of trust and thus are increasingly likely to be compliant if orders are being issued regarding disease. How Globalism Seizes Control A huge and continuously growing number of national and international organizations, agencies, departments, and non-profits are part of the epidemic and disease industry. And that industry is now designed for population control. The United Nations (UN) has even created a term, One Health, in which public health becomes political totalitarian control One Health is a World Health Organization (WHO) approach to disease that “aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems.” WHO further declares, “Having the One Health approach in place makes it easier for people to understand better the co-benefits, risks, trade-offs, and opportunities to advance equitable and holistic solutions.” The concept conveniently expands the authority and control of the disease industries exponentially and places animals and the environment on par with or above humans. Fear of Disease Jumping from Animals One of the biggest fears advertised by the disease industry is the cross-species transmission of disease. This is the idea that a disease in an animal can ‘evolve' or morph into a disease that is able to infect humans—a very rare occurrence. The increased contact between humans and infected animals is blamed for the creation of species-jumping diseases. I first heard about the concept of diseases jumping species in a National Geographics lecture I attended with my husband, Peter Breggin, in the mid-1980s. Dr. Birute Mary Gladikas was lecturing on her work in Indonesia, where she lived with orangutans in the wild. Like Jane Goodall (whom we also heard about working with gorillas on a different evening), Dr. Gladikas lived among the orangutans in the Borneo jungle. They contributed greatly to the human knowledge of one of our closest primate cousins. As she wrapped up her lecture, she cautioned the audience about civilization encroaching on the wilderness jungles, enabling diseases to which humans had never been exposed to “jump” and infect human populations, spreading in dangerous and uncontrollable ways. The concept was unnerving, eliciting unease and fear about unknown pathogens, exotic diseases from untamed places, and the idea that all must urgently be controlled. In retrospect, it was a propaganda strategy for protecting animals and nature from “evil” humans. Beyond that, it was a strategy for justifying humans' tinkering with pathogens in far more dangerous ways than nature. As part of hyping the assumed threat, in the early to mid-1980s, AIDs was being identified and hypothesized as having “jumped” from a primate to a human in the jungle who had eaten “bush” meat—monkey meat. If the rarity of the cross-species transfer of disease was admitted and the frequency of leaks from Biolabs acknowledged, this entire industry of virus gain-of-function tweaking would be terminated. Huge profits for the global predator class would be forfeited. H5N1 Avian Influenza Reported to WHO The WHO reports a 53% fatality rate in human cases of bird flu. This single statistic is the lynchpin that makes the emergency of bird flu most alarming. Over half of all human cases of bird flu resulted in death! Not so fast. This statistic consisted of 862 cases reported between 2003 and 2022. However, in the US, in 2024, the number of humans contracting bird flu rose to 31 sick people, without a single death to date. Further, an examination of the WHO statistical data presented in the chart “Cumulative number of confirmed human cases for avian influenza A(H5N1) reported to WHO, 2003-2021” shows that the numbers of bird flu deaths skyrocketed in third-world countries, which also experience extreme poverty and primitive to nonexistent hygiene infrastructure, such as clean water and sound cooking practices and the unavailability of modern healthcare. Finally, both the total number of infected cases and the number of deaths markedly dropped in the most recent years. Our guest on America Out Loud Pulse this week, Karen Kingston, declared, “The WHO's planned 2024-25 flu pandemic and release of highly dangerous, disease-causing H5N1 virus vaccines are fully locked and loaded by the FDA and other departments of Health Human Services (HHS).” She warns there is a chance that vaccines for H5N1 may be mandated and that the vaccines for H5N1 are already stockpiled. Kingston points out that the FDA Vaccines Advisory Committee Meeting on October 10, 2024, discussed influenza pandemics, US licensed and market-approved influenza vaccines, and then went on to consider bird flu vaccines. They discussed the prototype H5N1 vaccine approval process to date, different strains, and a proposed process for updating vaccines depending upon the illness and outbreak, especially to be used preventively prior to the outbreak. Kingston warns that the limited circulation of H5N1 among wild and domestic birds and fowl, as well as cattle, may be used as a rationale for calling for a vaccination program to ward off a bird flu pandemic among humans. This sounds like the next COVID-19-like assault on the freedom of humanity with the aim of draining yet more wealth from the people while turning up the screws of totalitarianism. We urge you to approach all vaccines with extreme caution, to especially resist any and all attempts to frighten you and to insist that so-called public health emergencies are never allowed to subvert our Constitutional rights or the healthy functioning of society. In Robert's own Words:I was born into a modest family in a very small town in Transylvania, Romania. I spent the fist part of my life on farms, caring for livestock and working land. When I was young, my family told me “If you want to learn, you can learn in any school.” I think that's the pre-school version of “You can achieve anything you want to achieve, no matter where you are right now.” And that's exactly what I continue to believe. Traveling gave me an ideal vantage point to observe common mistakes and successes in businesses on a world-wide scale. This mindset has helped me to build an empire of 8 businesses generating 7-figures yearly, to travel over 100,000 miles visiting 17 countries, speaking in front of thousands of people in 3 different languages, and to maintain a loving relationship with my gift from God, Diana, and our close family and friends. Throughout these years, I have also: * Generated over $500,000,000 in business value for my clients. * Delivered on over 200 projects for clients in 19 different sectors. * Consulted over 1,000 professionals to achieve 2-10X higher levels of effectiveness. * Created athlete-level health and an amazing marriage in between. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Everything Wrong with Roko's Claims about an Engineered Pandemic, published by EZ97 on February 23, 2024 on LessWrong. Premises Here I tackle some bold claims made by Roko in three separate posts about SARS-CoV-2 being an engineered virus (Brute Force Manufactured Consensus is Hiding the Crime of the Century, The Math of Suspicious Coincidences, and A Back-Of-The-Envelope Calculation On How Unlikely The Circumstantial Evidence Around Covid-19 Is). A first rebuttal to Roko's post is already out, and since I have been preparing this post for some time, certain arguments are going to be similar. The purpose of this post is not to incontrovertibly demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 was of zoonotic origin, as I myself believe a laboratory leak to be somewhat plausible, but rather that the degree of Roko's confidence in the engineered-pandemic belief is terribly overstated in light of the presented evidence. I believe that the RootClaim debate is a great way to familiarise oneself with core arguments from all sides, it is exceedingly comprehensive and up to date. I also found Wikipedia articles on the lab-leak hypothesis and adjacent topics to be pretty informative. I definitely drew inspiration from many comments to the main post, if you recognise a comment in this post please let me know and I will link it. A Set of Explainable Coincidences Roko asserts that there the odds of zoonotic spillover are 1 in 80,000,000. What are the chances that the bat coronavirus which caused a once in a century pandemic managed to navigate its way all the way from a Yunnan cave and home in on the city with the lab having the top Google hits for "Coronavirus China" and also the location of China's first BSL-4 lab? Well, that would be approximately 1 in 200, since that is the fraction of China's population in Wuhan. 'One-in-a-century' pandemic The '1 in 200' figure is restated here as Coincidence of Location: Wuhan is a particularly special place in China for studying covid-19; the WIV group was both the most important, most highly-cited group before 2020, and the only group that was doing GoF on bat sarbecoronaviruses as far as I know. Wuhan is about 0.5% of China's population. It's a suspicious coincidence that a viral pandemic would occur in the same city as the most prominent group that studies it. First of all, a global pandemic is much more likely to start in a large city with high internal and external traffic, most of which are bound to have research centres for virology research, especially if one is referring to a fast-growing megacity of 11 million inhabitants. Secondly, a zoonotic spillover requires frequent and direct human-animal contact, and wet markets are strong candidates for this. The cities with highest presence of wet markets with live animals per-capita are located in large Chinese cities in the centre-south (see the section 'From Yunnan to Wuhan' for more on this). Roko writes that (italic added) Coincidence of timing: several things happened that presaged the emergence of covid-19. In December 2017, the US government lifted a ban on risky pathogen research, and in mid-2018 the Ecohealth group started planning how to make covid in the DEFUSE proposal. A natural spillover event could have happened at any time over either the last, say, 40 years or (probably) the next 40 years, though likely not much before that due to changing patterns of movement (I need help on exactly how wide this time interval is). As explained throughout this post, global pandemics require a specific set of simultaneous circumstances, that is why most natural spillovers end up not being pandemics: because it is a rare combination of factors. In China alone, natural spillovers of various kind take place quite literally all the time, which should lead to a much higher prior probability of zoonosis. A five-...
Taylor shares about he and his wife's recent trip to North Carolina for the Game of Favorites wedding between our friends Peter and Yenza. They met dozens of internet friends in person for the first time, had a tremendous time celebrating the newlyweds & some fancy food(that made Taylor realize he's an idiot!) This leads to Allison sharing about her own wedding, some hilarious stories of her kids in Mass & Schitt's Creek(of course!). Taylor also shares about one of the longest homilies he's ever heard and some of the strangest things he saw at a recent Mass. Today we focus almost entirely on the House Subcommittee Hearing on Government Weaponization, specifically looking at the Censorship Industrial Complex. Earlier this week, I broke down the first drop from Michael Shellenberger called The CTIL File #1. Today's hearing dove into the new findings of government imposed censorship and just how far-reaching and dangerous it has become. We open with the Chair of the Committee, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) reminding us that the White House and the Executive Branch have not cooperated at all with their requests for information and depositions. They have subpoenaed two key members of the White House and hope to get them in front of them soon. We then turn to the opening statement by Michael Shellenberger who closed with a list of recommendations for Congress. They all revolve around the complete defunding and removal of any of the censorship apparatus that exists today and to pass stringent guardrails to prevent this from ever being allowed to happen again. Next we turn to the trust fund baby himself, Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-NY) who, once again, proves he is a valuable member of the GOP without even knowing it. In Goldman's mind, if the government only censored 35% of people, that means 65% were not censored. It may be the most laughable argument I have heard yet regarding the defense of this regime's trampling of the First Amendment. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) then tried to get to the bottom of why accounts were selected for censorship and who is funding the Cyber Treat Intelligence League. While there is some narrative that has been spun about how they are some rogue vigilantes volunteering their time, the documents behind the scenes say otherwise. They were highly organized and they had a mission, to censor speech that ran contrary to the approved state narratives and to create their own narratives to manipulate the public. Two of the people mentioned in the CTIL Files #1 were Pablo Bruer and Sara-Jayne ("SJ") Terp. We have a sound bite from a 2019 zoom/cast where they explained what they do. They don't craft a full lie. No one would believe it. So they make sure 95% is true so they can use that last bit to hide their lie. As Terp adds, they are not necessarily into lying to people, but getting people to "change their belief sets." They truly want to cognitively manipulate people so they can control us and get us to behave as they want. It's a full PsyOp on the Western world. I end with a shift to Elon Musk. He is asked if he will have to change some of his procedures or make some amends to gain back advertisers. His response to people trying to blackmail him through advertising, "Go F yourself." This is the perfect response. As more and more of us stop caving to their emotional blackmail, they will lose control over us and we can regain our true freedoms and liberties. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Assessment of intelligence agency functionality is difficult yet important, published by trevor on August 24, 2023 on LessWrong. Summary: When it comes to observing intelligence agencies, it's hard to see the hardened parts and easy to observe the soft corrupt parts. This leads to a bias where very large numbers of people overestimate how prevalent the easily-observed soft and harmless parts are. This can sometimes even result in a dangerous and prevalent estimation, among people whose careers are much further ahead than yours, that the entire intelligence agency is harmless and irrelevant, when it actually isn't. Intelligence agencies are probably a mix of both less-functional, less-relevant parts, and also more-functional, more-relevant parts that have a disproportionately large influence over governments and policies; and it is a mistake to assume that intelligence agencies are homogenously composed of non-functional non-relevant parts that aren't worth paying any attention to, even if such a belief is a popular norm. Why intelligence agencies are dangerous There are a wide variety of situations where intelligence agencies suddenly becomes relevant, without warning. For example, most or all of the US Natsec establishment might suddenly and unanimously change its stance on Gain of Function research, such as if US-China relations or US-Russian relations once again hit a new 25-year low (which has actually been happening very frequently over the last few years). Either the leadership of an agency, or a powerful individual in an agency with authority to execute operations, or a corrupt clique, might personally make a judgement that the best way to expedite or restart GOF research is to target various people who are the most efficient or effective at opposing GOF research. This need not be anywhere near the most effective way to expedite or protect GOF research, it just needs to look like that, sufficiently for someone to sign off on that, or even for them to merely thing that it would look good to their boss. Competent or technologically advanced capabilities can obviously be mixed with incompetent administration/decisionmaking in the mixed competence model of intelligence agencies. An intelligence agency that is truly harmless, irrelevant, and not worth paying attention to (as opposed to having an incentive to falsely give off the appearance of harmlessness, irrelevance, or not being worth paying attention to) would have to be an intelligence agency that is both technologically unsophisticated and too corrupt for basic functioning, such as running operations. This would be an extremely naive belief to have about the intelligence agencies in the US, Russia, and China; particularly the US and China, which have broad prestige, sophisticated technology, and also thriving private sector skill pools to recruit talent from. When calculating the expected value from policy advocacy tasks that someone somewhere absolutely must carry out, like pushing sensible policymaking on GOF research that could cause human extinction, many people are currently aware that the risk of that important community disappearing or dissolving substantially reduces the expected value calculations of everything produced by that important community; e.g. a 10% chance of the community ceasing to exist or dissolving reduces the expected value produced by that entire community by something like ~10%. Most people I've encountered have in mind a massive totalitarian upheaval, like the ones in the early-mid 20th century, and such an upheaval is a hard boundary between being secure and not being secure. However, in the 21st century, especially after COVID and the 2008 recession, experts and military planners are now more focused on the international balance of power (e.g. the strength of the US, Russia, and ...

Straight Talk MD: Health | Medicine | Healthcare Policy | Health Education | Anesthesiology
Last week, Adrian Jones, Daoyu Zhang, Steven Massey, Yuri Deigin, Louis Nemzer, and Steven Quay reported out on an ingenious analysis of genomic datasets from NCBI that indicate a lab in Wuhan was performing potentially risky genetic engineering manipulations on a novel coronavirus that was previously unreported. The manipulation? Inserting a MERS spike protein into a previously unreported coronavirus. MERS has a case fatality rate of over 30%. What is clear from the analysis is that at least one lab in Wuhan was performing risky gain-of-function research on unreported coronaviruses before the pandemic started, the kind that could have created SARS-CoV-2. It also shows that risky GOF research is being conducted in Wuhan that has no identifiable medical benefit, but has the potential to create a pandemic level pathogen. Today I interview Steven Massey, a professor of bioinformatics that has been actively researching the origin of SARS-CoV-2 since the pandemic began and one of the authors of this significant discovery. We discuss the paper, how his team discovered this novel engineered coronavirus from Wuhan, and what it means in the search for the origin of COVID-19...
Project Veritas got an apparent Pfizer executive on video admitting the company does “directed evolution” of viruses, including Corona viruses. It's a great piece of work, but why is anyone shocked? The MailOnline disappeared their story on the Project Veritas scoop. YouTube has deleted the video. Google played this game: The Mockingbirds aren't covering it. Then, there is Pfizer's response. I break it down in the show. Know this: Pfizer didn't want their response seen by anyone. How do I know? The same way anyone who works in the media knows. Look when they released it. Watch this 1959 clip with Mike Wallace and ask yourself: was she wrong?EmailsCathiHey Todd, I just sat down to listen to your episode of Speak now or forever be held in silence. You had mentioned going on record with feeling like you're in a hostile work environment…YES!I did that with my company, a Major Bank. I've been there 21 years. After January 6th, 2021, The Bank and other woke corporations hopped on the narrative about insurrectionists and no PAC dollars to any elected member who questioned the election…blah blah.Anyway, I professionally and calmly escalated concerns until one The Head of Govt Relation direct reports contacted me and I calmly told them explicitly that The Bank was creating a hostile work environment. The Bank certainly didn't stop with wokeness but going on record like that is the only way to hold them accountable if one needs to take legal action - including if one gets fired for escalating concerns. We have to put that in there for protection - plus it's the truth. In addition, in December 2021 when The Bank and other organizations were pushing the injection or you couldn't take your mask off at work and new people couldn't be hired without proof of the injection, I escalated a letter to all of the Board of Directors, Operating Committee and most Senior Leaders. I told them I would hold them accountable to several things: since the injection does not prevent infection, they're completely ignorant on covid facts; given that the injection doesn't stop infection yet they're still pushing it, it seems entirely possible that some of them may have an unhealthy weighting of stock in pharmaceutical companies and should be audited for a conflict of interest; BUT the kicker of the feedback I gave was that THEY'RE the ones creating systemic racism given that black people and people of Mexican/Hispanic descent have the lowest injection rates and therefore are the ones who are disproportionately impacted by wearing masks and not being eligible for hire without the injection. By Feb they dropped in the injection requirement for new hires. By the end of March they very abruptly stopped their covid testing. I'm not saying it had anything to do with my letter. But it could have helped. If we go on record using their own rules, we can actually say a lot to senior leaders without compromising ourselves. And of course, we must always stay calm in written word and voice.God be with you, Todd.
