 First Harvest at the ThresholdWe have been building toward this week for a month. Three great cycles named and tracked. Jupiter weaving through all three. The Sun following. This week they culminate, not in abstract outer planet contacts alone, but in the most personal luminaries available. The Sun and Moon activating all three great cycles simultaneously at Wednesday's Full Moon.And at the end of the week, the ancient Celtic festival of Lammas arrives, the first harvest. The earth's own wisdom confirming what the sky is saying. Something has been growing. It is time to begin gathering what it has produced.Key Cycles This Week:Monday, July 27: Sun in Leo trines Neptune in Aries and sextiles Uranus in Gemini. Lunar Nodes change signs: North Node enters Aquarius, South Node enters Leo.The Sun opens the week touching two of the three great cycles in flowing alignment. Vision becoming feelable. Sudden clarity about what is genuinely new in how you understand yourself and the world.On the same day the Lunar Nodes shift, an eighteen-month change in the direction of collective evolution. North Node in Aquarius calls the collective toward genuine community, collective intelligence, and the kind of power that arises from interconnection rather than concentrated authority. With Pluto already moving through Aquarius, the North Node arriving here deepens and confirms that direction.South Node in Leo asks what we are integrating and moving beyond, not Leo's genuine gifts of authentic creative expression and open-hearted generosity, but its shadow. The over-reliance on individual performance. The hunger for recognition that substitutes for genuine contribution. The leadership organized around the singular charismatic figure rather than the nourishment of the collective field. Where have I been performing rather than genuinely contributing? That is the South Node question.Wednesday, July 29: Venus in Virgo squares Mars in Gemini. Full Moon at 6 degrees of Aquarius conjunct Pluto, opposing Jupiter in Leo, sextile Neptune in Aries, trine Uranus in Gemini. Venus in Virgo's careful tending meets Mars in Gemini's speed and variety in friction. There may be tension between what you need in order to feel genuinely attended to and what the pace of the moment is actually offering. Name that honestly rather than adapting around it.And then the Full Moon, the culmination of everything this arc has been building toward. Sextile Neptune: vision and inspiration present alongside the reckoning, the imaginal field open to what genuinely new collective life might look like. Trine Uranus in Gemini: something that has been building for weeks finds its moment of sudden clear arrival.The Full Moon falling on the newly activated nodal axis, North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo, the luminaries holding the direction of collective evolution in their light. This is not only an ending. It is a revelation. Pay attention to what you see. And ask honestly how what is being illuminated wants to be offered in service of the larger web rather than the personal story.Saturday, August 1: Lammas. In the ancient Celtic tradition, Lammas is the festival of first harvest, the midpoint between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox, when the first fruits of the growing season are ready to be gathered. The body knows this threshold even when the mind has forgotten it.The particular quality of this Lammas, held within the nodal shift toward Aquarius, asks a specific question. Not only what has ripened in you, but what has ripened that belongs to the larger field. The first harvest in earth-based tradition was never only personal abundance. It was shared. Good morning. If you've ever seen the musical ‘Godspell' – and yes, it's still in the repertoire for colleges and theatre companies round the world – you'll remember the catchy opening chorus: ‘Pre…ee, pare ye, the way of the Lord…' – I'm tempted but I'm not going to sing it – the point of the chorus is to accompany the arrival of John the Baptist, the herald, of Jesus. Today, the 24th June, the Church celebrates the birth of this extraordinary figure of Jewish history, who appears not only in the Gospels but in the writings of the first century Jewish historian, Josephus. John's birth is traditionally the 24th June, 6 months before Christmas, and it also comes just after the Summer Solstice – and that has symbolic meaning too, because John reportedly said of Jesus Christ. ‘He must increase but I must decrease'. However bright the sun is in today's sky and however long the day, we're on the way down to long nights and shorter days. John the Baptist is known as the forerunner, the one who, as the chorus insists, prepared the way of the Lord. Yet he did not see his hopes fulfilled, at least not in the way he expected. He was arrested by the local puppet King, Herod Antipas, and beheaded in prison in a macabre episode when Herod's niece, Salome, danced so fetchingly before Herod that he offered her any reward she would like – and she asked for the prophet's head on a platter. Yuk. Oscar Wilde wrote a one-act play about it, and I remember playing Salome's evil mother who had prompted the request. So John the forerunner, the herald, ended up disgraced, confused, betrayed – and was never quite sure whether Jesus was the one whose coming he had prophesied or whether it would turn out to be someone else. John's story makes me realise how little we understand the significance of our own lives. We're all part of a stream of history, we come and go, but the stream goes on. There's so much in society that tells us we can be who we like and achieve what we want, that our sole purpose is to maximise our own significance. The story of John comes as a corrective. We are not Messiahs, World Kings, or even as one world leader puts it, ‘Very Stable Geniuses'. Yet we all have some capacity for discernment. We can practise truthfulness and generosity and be humble before God and one another. What comes after us we cannot know but all of us we can hope and pray the days ahead will bring flourishing and peace to ourselves and our overheating planet.

Summer arrives here in the United States in the wee hours of tomorrow morning – the moment of the June solstice. At the solstice, the Sun stands farthest north for the entire year. For people at about 23-and-a-half degrees north latitude, our star will pass directly overhead at local noon. That line of latitude is known as the Tropic of Cancer. It was named a couple of thousand years ago. At the time, the Sun appeared against the constellation Cancer at the solstice. Today, though, the Sun’s almost directly astride the border between Taurus and Gemini. It’s on the Taurus side at the exact moment of the solstice, but it slides into Gemini a few hours later. The change in address is the result of a slow “wobble” in Earth’s axis. As it wobbles, the Sun shifts position against the background of stars. It takes our planet about 26,000 years to complete a single wobble, so that’s how long it takes the Sun to move all the way across the zodiac. So the Sun will return to Cancer in about 24,000 years. Earth’s axis also nods up and down a little over an even longer period – about 41 thousand years. That causes a shift in the latitude of the Tropic of Cancer. Right now, it’s moving southward at about 50 feet per year – changing the circle where the Sun stands overhead on the summer solstice. We’ll have more about the summer solstice tomorrow. Please note this is part 2 of Carla's interview. Today I am joined by Carla from our coven to talk about death, grief, poisonous plants, her craft and a whole lot more in this episode! This is part one as the interview was so long my software couldn't cope with the duration so I have released as a two parter. Carla Valentine is a qualified Senior Mortuary Technician, and is currently the human remains conservator at Barts Pathology Museum in London. Her career caring for the dead has spanned over 20 years. She is a writer and broadcaster, featuring on TV shows such as The Bone Detectives, Fatberg Autopsy and Ancient Unexplained Files, and has a podcast called Mortem on BBC Sounds. Her first book, Past Mortems, documents her career carrying out autopsies for a decade, and the follow up, The Language of Bones - out October 1st 2026 - is a deeper exploration of death practices and the human condition. She also penned Murder Isn't Easy: The Forensics of Agatha Christie, and her next book, Planted Evidence - all about gardens, graves and poisonous plants - will be published in 2028.
