*This episode was recorded in June, but is just releasing now! We discuss the Summer Solstice for a minute, which already passed, but the information is still relevant. Reflecting on the first half of the year and planning for the second half of the year. The Power of Ritual by Casper de Kuile. Finding connection to yourself and to others through ritual building. Cultivating consistency in your routines. Mental and emotional resources going into stressing about doing something are a greater detriment than to just engage in the routine you're stressing about. The root problem of not creating consistency in routines may be mental health issues. Accountability partners and interdependence to help motivate. Being bold in reaching out to other people about staying connected or being accountability partners. JK Rowling's history of transphobic comments and supporting transphobic legislation. When do we separate the art from the artist and when is it not okay to do that? How do we let others have the freedom to make choices about what art they consume without placing judgement or canceling them for those choices?

Three books to help those long days of summer heat. Grab a cool drink and find a cozy hammock or lounge chair and enjoy.A Jane Wunderly Mystery #3 Danger on the AtlanticPublishedMarch 29, 2022 by Kensington - Erica Ruth NeubauerFor young American widow Jane Wunderly, there are worse fates than adventuring aboard a transatlantic liner with the only man who could change her mind about romance. Unfortunately, her first-class itinerary has an unexpected—and deadly—addition waiting just below deck . . .Atlantic Ocean, 1926: Voyaging from Southampton to New York, self-reliant Jane is determined to prove herself a worthy investigator on the stately ship—even awkwardly going undercover as the fashionable wife of her magnetic partner, Mr. Redvers. Few details are known about the rumored German spy the duo have been tasked with identifying among fellow passengers, but new troubles unfold once wealthy newlywed Vanessa FitzSimmons announces the sudden disappearance of her husband at sea . . .Miles Van de Meter, the man Vanessa rushed to marry in Monte Carlo, has allegedly vanished into thin air along with his luggage. Redvers guesses the shifty heiress may be weaving tall tales for fun between flutes of champagne, yet Jane isn't convinced—not after the stunning murder of a trusted acquaintance sends them into uncharted waters. Facing two dangerous mysteries and a boat load of suspects, Jane must navigate a claustrophobic quest for answers before the culprits can slip from her grasp on land . . . or, worse, ensure she and Redvers never reach their destination.Last Call: A True Story of Love, Lust, and Murder in Queer New York PublishedMarch 9, 2021 by Celadon BooksBy Elon GreenThe gripping true story, told here for the first time, of the Last Call Killer and the gay community of New York City that he preyed upon. The Townhouse Bar, midtown, July 1992: The piano player seems to know every song ever written, the crowd belts out the lyrics to their favorites, and a man standing nearby is drinking a Scotch and water. The man strikes the piano player as forgettable. He looks bland and inconspicuous. Not at all what you think a serial killer looks like. But that's what he is, and tonight, he has his sights set on a gray haired man. He will not be his first victim.Nor will he be his last. The Last Call Killer preyed upon gay men in New York in the ‘80s and ‘90s and had all the hallmarks of the most notorious serial killers. Yet because of the sexuality of his victims, the skyhigh murder rates, and the AIDS epidemic, his murders have been almost entirely forgotten. This gripping true-crime narrative tells the story of the Last Call Killer and the decades-long chase to find him. And at the same time, it paints a portrait of his victims and a vibrant community navigating threat and resilience. The Last Party By Cassidy LucasFor Los Angeleno Dani Sanders, turning 50 seems like one more disappointment. Her career has stalled, her nineteen-year-old daughter with developmental issues is regressing, and Dani's ex-husband Craig, a fertility doctor worshipped by Hollywood's elite, is forever upending her life. Though she doesn't feel much like celebrating, she can't say no when her best friend Mia Markle, a flamboyant and strong-willed actress, insists on planning a “creative” birthday weekend in the wild, wealthy bohemian enclave of Topanga Canyon. On the weekend of the Summer Solstice, Dani and her six closest friends gather in the hills above the canyon at “Celestial Ranch,” 18-acres of rugged, wooded mountainside where they'll spend three glorious days hiking, practicing meditation and reiki, and enjoying lavish catered cuisine. They will also indulge in a little DMT, a short-acting psychedelic drug meant to open their senses and transport them to a higher plain. But as the weekend unfolds, long-buried tensions, unresolved grievances, and old secrets emerge, leaving Dani desperate for clarity about her life.Dani and her friends take the drug late at night on an open hillside beneath the glittering stars. When Dani returns from her intense and revelatory "trip," she learns that one of her friends has gone missing. Then another disappears. And soon, Dani finds herself alone on the dark mountainside, seemingly abandoned by the people who are supposed to love her most.Or have they somehow been taken from her? What could Dani have possibly done to deserve a devastating birthday night like this—and how will she make it to the morning alone?

Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, and a great day to enjoy. Having a Life Solstice however, is when all your days seem long. Day after long day of being overwhelmed, boredom, struggle, anxiety and more. I'm not sure anyone ever says "it's been a long day" in a positive light. But imagine if you could take the long days of your Life Solstice and turn them into the long days of Summer Solstice, then long days of a Happy Solstice. Now THAT would be a long day worth celebrating. The Happy news is that the answer is quite simple. Listen and see how easy it is. Welcome to June 25th, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate two winter holidays in the Dog Days of Summer. The Saturday after the Summer Solstice, gather your friends and family to celebrate Summersgiving! This day is designed to combine all the fun of Summer with America's favorite Thanksgiving foods. It's a celebration of life rooted in gratitude, to be shared with the friends that make life fun. Everyone has a favorite holiday food or tradition, and Summersgiving lets you celebrate outside under the stars. What a perfect opportunity to expand this tradition to a broader circle of family and friends. With the season in full swing, the heat is probably getting to you. Take some cool consolation that Christmas is a mere 6 months away. It may sound a bit premature to be thinking about the holiday, but this is the perfect time to start planning for Christmas, especially if you are the crafty type. Why wait til the last minute when you can get a head start on the festivities? That doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying your summer. It means you have more time to get your ducks in a row. So hang by the pool, and know that you're way ahead of the game today on National Leon Day. If you're confused, don't be. Leon is just Noel spelled backwards! I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. On this week's episode of The Aligned Podcast, Ali and Jess talk about the Summer Solstice, the start of Cancer season and Full Moon in fiery Sagittarius. There is a push and pull between fire and water that we've been working with. The heat of the flame inside of us, we're now being called to act on the things we want to accomplish. Reflecting on the first half of the year, we were being called back to our bodies, leaning into the slowness. Being in the present moment means being in our bodies. Dive into the upgrade and upleveling we're all feeling as this light enters the planet and the fire gets into the cracks and crevices of where we're holding onto things that won't work in our lives anymore. It is really and truly summer now Happy Summer Solstice Season in the Northern Hemisphere. Are your gardens and parks full of the sound and movements of winged life – the fluttering of moths at your white flowers, at the porch or street light each evening? Dragonflies, mosquitos, bumblebees, and flower flies dancing across your flowers and grasses by day? National Pollinator Week is June 20 – 26, and this week we're in conversation with Dr. Monika Egerer, pollination ecologist at the Technical University of Munich sharing more about the importance of well-designed urban gardens for pollinator support. Monika researches the ecology and management of production-oriented ecosystems in and around cities. She pursues an interdisciplinary research approach that analyzes connections between biodiversity, environmental and climate protection, ecosystem services and social-ecological issues in urban agricultural systems. A strong focus of her work is the role of insects and plant biodiversity in urban ecosystems, specifically in the context of habitat management, urbanization and climate change. Seems that our gardens as contributions to urban biodiversity depend on our viewing them as habitats and our embrace of an “agroecological” in which the focus on production for our needs (food, flowers, control) and the needs of other lives (ecology) is key. As is a little more wildness... Enjoy! Cultivating Place now has a donate button! We thank you so much for listening over the years and we hope you'll support Cultivating Place. Astrologer Tarek Adeeb went LIVE on Monday, 6/20/2022 to discuss the astrology for the week ahead, including tomorrow's Summer Solstice. Key highlights: The summer solstice tomorrow is extremely significant. Big recognition of the past 6 months. Assess how you will plan to move forward in the next 6 months. If we can allow, adjust, and remember that this too shall pass, will give us more control. Relax, take a breath, and relax into the energy. We are in a Chinese New Year - White Tiger - extreme. What needs to be purged? It's an emotional time. The south node in Scorpio is emotion. North node in Taurus is all about change. Moon in Aries - Bringing newness. Venus in Gemini - hoping that it will bring in more fun and lighten things up. What will be left behind and what newness is coming in? The stakes are high. Mars in aspect to Saturn - another recognition of the new. When things change, there is a certain degree of crisis that occurs. A crisis of confidence. Stay calm and adjust if necessary. Saturn Uranus square is going square again and it could be a really volatile 6 months. Everything is at risk. Truth yourself and trust your heart. Understand that you need to let go of whatever is no longer serving you. If you are in survival mode right now, do what is required to not feel scared. Operate from a position of love. Keep calm and carry on! There is a higher purpose to all of this. Join Tareck EVERY Monday at 9 am MST to hear about the astrology for the week ahead. This is a day of great abundance, wonder and celebration of achievements! And, as with all celebrations on this blessed and beloved wheel of the year, as we celebrate the strength of the light we now turn our sight softly towards the darkening half of the year that will begin shortly after this resplendent day. Celtic stone circles, ancient gathering places, monuments and tombs, are lit by the dawn light on this day - sacred, special, solstice. The summer solstice offers us a space for connection and prayer, to walk through the trees at the height of their color, to connect deeply with their wisdom and wonder. The summer solstice also offers us the opportunity to see the sun within ourselves, our own shining heartlight, radiant, powerful, magnanimous, divine and true.Beech, Vervain, Oak and Rose are celebrated today, among many other gorgeous trees and plants of the solstice. On this day of power may you be blessed with shining light, removing all that no longer serves such that you may live authentically a life of service; may you radiate with divinity, your own holiness, walking on the shining paths of the solstice. May you lovingly welcome the darker half of the wheel, that also begins at this time, claiming radiant power and surrendering again to the endless turning of the wheel of the year. May you partner with fire, allowing it to bless you and burn away all of your dead branches and leaves. May you be refreshed and revitalized this summer solstice!
A beautiful sight greets early risers on the first day of summer tomorrow: a conjunction between the Moon and the planet Jupiter. Jupiter looks like a brilliant star to the upper left of the Moon. As a bonus, orange Mars is not far to their left. Summer actually arrives at just about the same time — 4:14 a.m. Central Daylight Time. That moment is the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The Sun is farthest north for the entire year, so it's the longest day of the year. Despite all that sunlight, the solstice is not the warmest day of the year. That usually comes in July or August for most of the hemisphere. And there are a couple of reasons for that. Since the Sun stays high in the sky long after the solstice, it continues to shine almost directly down on us. So its rays pass through a thinner layer of atmosphere than at other times of the year. That means the atmosphere doesn't filter out much of the Sun's energy, so things continue to heat up. And we still have more hours of daylight than darkness, so there's more sunlight to heat things up. It's kind of like putting a roast in the oven at a high temperature, then turning it down a bit. The roast can keep on warming up until it reaches the same temperature as the oven. In the case of the atmosphere, it reaches that point in mid to late summer — when we're thoroughly “baked” by the heat of the Sun. We'll have more about the solstice tomorrow. This week: Mercury in Gemini is the GPS that will help you reach your Jupiter in Aries goals more efficiently. The Pisces Last Quarter Moon is a looking-back time, and Venus trine Pluto offers a lesson in doing what we can with what we've got. Bewitching Venus enters Gemini, lending enchantment to clever words and appealing stories. The Cancer Solstice welcomes summer, the season of gestation, in the Northern Hemisphere, and winter below the equator; this leads to some thoughts about the use of a season-based zodiac system for those born in the Southern Hemisphere. Plus: Violin strings, mellifluous voices, and again with the U.S. Pluto return!
