For the first time ever, PlayStation is publishing one of its own games on Xbox. The new port comes in the form of 2024's smash-hit multiplayer game Helldivers 2 from second party studio Arrowhead, and though Sony has a long-but-silent history of bringing games to other consoles -- there was a Wipeout game on N64, after all, and the likes of Death Stranding and MLB: The Show have already migrated to Xbox via intermediaries -- never before have they acted as publisher. Is this a one-off, or a move that could signify a new strategy? Will Xbox players conditioned to Game Pass put their money where their mouth is? Are single-player exclusives next? Then: Neil Druckmann announces he's done with The Last of Us on HBO, instead turning his full attention back to Naughty Dog, while it sure does sound like Sony-owned team Firesprite is openly hiring for a PlayStation 6 project. After some other news, we get into what we're playing before ending the show as we always do, with six questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas from our audience. What are our ruminations concerning Xbox's recent layoffs and cancellations? Will the PS5 era be looked back upon as a generation of wasted potential? How do we feel about the Stop Killing Games initiative in Europe? Are some listeners intentionally exposing their wives to Sacred Symbols in order to facilitate a divorce? The last couple of weeks for Bungie have been nothing short of catastrophic, calling into question whether their upcoming extraction shooter Marathon has any chance at all in finding market success. We've long discussed whether Sony should have bought Bungie at all (they shouldn't have), but now that they're so deeply invested, how do they get the team out of this mess? And what does all of this hullabaloo -- about stolen art, poorly-reviewed gameplay, and lackluster audience reaction -- say about the team's future, full stop? Meanwhile, things aren't much better north of the border, where Quebec-based Haven recently parted ways with founder and once-famous producer Jade Raymond, who has now left three different teams without any sort of release. Is Fairgame$ DOA? Maybe not, but we have lots of new information on the recent closed test of the game under the moniker Project Hearts, and... well... it's not sounding great. Also: MLB: The Show is seemingly getting a mobile release, PlayStation Stars is going away unceremoniously, Stellar Blade 2 is in active development, Xbox's Hellblade II is coming to PS5, Kojima's Physint is at least five more years away, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Keeping in mind Sony's typical naming conventions, what will PlayStation 6's controller be called? Do we also find delight in Darth Vader's AI voice in Fortnite? Is the PS5 Pro truly worth purchasing before prices likely go up? Built Different, Powered by Grit Built Different, Powered by Grit kicks off with a powerful return from the Twinstripe Reporters and TrippDog, bringing their baseball energy and signature fun to the mic. This time, they welcome 14-year-old Hayden Clark, a young athlete whose resilience and heart set him apart in every way. From the moment Hayden shares that he’s a bilateral amputee, it becomes clear this episode isn't just about baseball — it’s about grit, mindset, and proving the doubters wrong. Overcoming Doubts and Living the Game The key phrase takes on new meaning when Hayden reveals how he started playing baseball not just for the love of the game, but to silence those who said he couldn't. As Tripp puts it, “He’s an 8-Eleven superstar out there.” Hayden, who had both legs amputated at age nine, explains that his drive comes from being told “you can't.” His story shows how much heart it takes to keep going—and how much fun he has doing it. He even crafted makeshift legs from wood blocks and duct tape just weeks after surgery to walk again. As Hayden says, “Just do it. That was my mindset.” Baseball, VR, and a Whole Lot of Hustle Outside the ballfield, Hayden is a VR gamer, a golfer, and a master of MLB The Show, boasting a 99 overall team rating. The crew shares laughs over VR fails and deep dives into positions on the field—Hayden prefers third base and the corners, where the action is fierce. His mindset on the game is unmatched, and he's even made money from bets with kids who didn't believe in his abilities. An Unforgettable Surprise and Big League Dreams In a heartwarming twist, Hayden is surprised live on the show with a gift box from JH Performance and Rad Woke Up Rad—plus the promise of gear from Bruce Bolt and Easton, and Stinger Spots owner Brandon Eaton shared a great message and is giving Hayden a brand new glove. But the highlight? An invitation from Vincent “The Dancing Umpire” Chapman to a sold-out Savannah Bananas game in Houston, with over 40,000 fans. Hayden's reaction says it all: “That's pretty good. Pretty big.” “What's the worst that can happen?” When asked what he'd tell someone scared to chase their dreams, Hayden didn't hesitate: “Just go practice. You'll eventually make it if you want it that much.” His confidence, resilience, and humor made this one of the most unforgettable episodes to date. And when asked who inspires him most? “The man in the mirror.” Enough said. Walkout Song “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar Quote from the Guest:“They said I couldn't play. That's why I started playing — to prove them wrong.” – Hayden Clark Check out another inspiring story on our show:Gameface Gracie's journey in softball Learn more about adaptive sports resources like NubAbility:NubAbility Athletics Foundation Follow The SLIDE Podcast! Leadership and Adversity with a Baseball Mindset The Power of Leadership in Youth Baseball 11-year-old shortstop JJ Hamilton brings leadership and adversity with a baseball mindset to the field every time he plays. In this episode, Coach Aaron is joined by Dylan “Hollywood” Boyle and Banana Jake as they spotlight a young athlete already showing maturity beyond his years. JJ plays for the US Nationals Elite Midwest team and has been committed to baseball since he was three. When the pandemic hit, JJ didn't stop training. Instead, he adapted. His family transformed their basement into a personal workout facility with turf, weights, and a batting setup. Inspired by MLB stars like Paul Skenes, JJ began training with water resistance tools to improve his balance and explosiveness. He now uses this edge to lead by example on and off the field. As JJ says, “If your team’s doing bad, not like bad, but performance-wise, you can pick them up—and they watch what you do.” Adversity Builds Character and Mental Toughness JJ's story is more than just about sports. He's faced the pressure of travel tournaments, snowy off-seasons in Illinois, and balancing a full academic schedule. Despite those challenges, JJ has made the honor roll three times this year and even competes in middle school bowling. His discipline and time management reflect a young leader who takes his goals seriously. What makes JJ stand out is how he handles adversity. He knows how to reset and refocus, whether it's striking out or losing a big game. That growth mindset allows him to bounce back quickly. According to him, it's not just about personal performance—it's about lifting up teammates, leading with attitude, and playing for something bigger than yourself. Fun, Motivation, and Baseball Dreams Of course, baseball isn't all grind for JJ. He talks about his favorite walk-up song, “Commercial” by Lil Baby, and his love for MLB The Show. He's a Dodgers fan, and yes—he's got Mookie Betts and Patrick Mahomes posters on his wall. It's a playful reminder that kids can dream big while working hard. JJ also shares how he trained during COVID-19 by running in his neighborhood and practicing on his own. No one pushed him—he just had internal drive. That's what makes this episode so relatable and refreshing. Whether you’re a young player, a parent, or a coach, JJ's perspective shows that leadership and adversity go hand in hand when building a baseball mindset. This week, Sacred Symbols is a Kojima Fanboy Podcast... for a little while, anyway. Finally -- finally! -- we have a release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and it's fairly close, arriving on PlayStation 5 in late June. And as a deep love for Kojima is perhaps the biggest gaming stance all three Sacred hosts share, we thought we'd spend some time getting hyped up following an all-new 10 minute trailer, collector's edition and pre-order details, and so on. Other news this week includes word of major forthcoming updates to PS5 Pro, the leak of a mysterious PSP game called STAMP that was never greenlit into production, the announcement of PowerWash Simulator 2 (!) from FuturLab, rumors of imminent PS5 releases for Indiana Jones and an Oblivion Remake, and much more. Then: Listener inquiries! What do we think of the reveal that Naughty Dog's Intergalactic will deal with religion as a central theme? Do we have any thoughts about the copious leaks from the recent Battlefield playtests? How will MLB: The Show 25 shape-up in its first current-gen-only PlayStation outing? Does Dustin have a serious misconception of what some people actually do when listening to our shows? Just last year, Sony had grand designs of a new PlayStation leadership structure executing on an exciting multi-pronged strategy, but only three fiscal quarters later, the plan has come undone. Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst were bestowed co-CEO roles -- the former looking after hardware and services, the latter after software -- but now, Nishino will hold the CEO role alone, with Hulst demoted and now reporting directly to him. While Sony Corporation itself made some other changes as well, including installing Hiroki Totoki as the larger entity's CEO, changes to PlayStation's executive structure so soon after alterations were first made says something rather clear: Bad choices were made, and rectifying them as quickly as possible is the best idea. We discuss. Other news this week includes Xbox quickly becoming PlayStation's biggest publisher, with yet another Xbox game -- Forza Horizon 5 -- en route to PS5, rumblings of new films for Resident Evil and Beyond: Two Souls, PlayStation 5 continuing to outsell the PS4 in the US when adjusted for time, layoffs at BioWare following Dragon Age's tumultuous end, MLB: The Show 25 skipping PS4 for the first time since the console launched, and more. Listener inquiries wrap things up. Is NCSoft's Horizon MMO cancelled? How does a game's budget actually get determined? Should future Dragon Quest games abandon Akira Toriyama's art style? Will Colin's Herman Miller chair ever arrive? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.
