We search through another early Brooks & Dunn hit, 1992's "Lost and Found". It's all about the flow, as this song always seems to take us exactly where we want to go, measure after perfect little measure. But we already knew Kix Brooks could write a great cut, so how exactly does this one nail the feeling of a frantic search, and what does Brooks & Dunn's signature honky-tonk sound have to do with it?

He spent yearsflying planes in various capacities, but after meeting a friend who taught him the craft, he knewsinging was the life for him.Daneka Nation has released a new single titled “Sacred Ground,” which is a Kix Brooks pennedtune that describes what a high school pal had gone through in life.“It's kind of a story of my best friend in high school,” Daneka said. “He got out of high school andthe first thing he wanted to do was have kids. So we graduated in May, and he was already outhitting the clubs on Fridays and Saturday nights. He was a great country western dancer. Well,he found a woman who he got pregnant and had kids. He just couldn't wait. It's really kind of mybest friend's story.”The original version of the song didn't have much fanfare, but in 1992, McBride and the Ride shot it up the charts to number two. The only song in front of it was “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus. Daneka heard the tune on the radio one day while driving, and it hit home so hard that he knew he needed to record it. He pointed out that the storyline touches anyone who went through a similar situation, or anyone who knows young parents working their tails off to get by. Daneka feels that “Sacred Ground” is the best track that he has recorded, and it has had airplayin South America and Europe. The track has more than 200,000 listeners on Spotify, andDaneka is relishing in the fact that it is taking off.“It's exciting,” Daneka said. “Finally I've got something big to work with, and I can't wait for it tobe out there for everybody to hear. I want to hear it on every radio station in the U.S. and allover the world.”Daneka Nation's creative style is a unique one, as he works with an Argentinian multi-instrumentalist named Ariel who plays every instrument on “Sacred Ground.” Ariel will puttogether the music, and send it to Daneka to review before he gets in the studio. Daneka thenlays down his baritone vocals along with some background singers to complete the track.Daneka is a former pilot who worked as a chief flight instructor, and also flew an air ambulancerescuing premature babies from small Texas towns. Due to being partially color blind, Danekastopped flying and became self-employed. This is when he also discovered his love for singing.“I learned a couple songs and went to karaoke bars, and wasn't very good,” Daneka said.“Finally I ran into an 87-year-old man who was 80% blind. He was a quartet singer who hadbeen singing since he was six. So he couldn't drive, and I couldn't sing, so we paired up and hetaught me basically everything about how to sing over a period of three or four years.”Daneka said they would go out as much as six times a week, hitting multiple karaoke bars.Eventually his karaoke buddy passed away, but Daneka's love for music and belting out vocalslived on.“I started lining things up to get the best people around me,” Daneka said. “I got the best guitar players, bass players, drum players and started making music in 2021.”The first song he made a Doug Stone cover called “In a Different Light,” which he changed upinto more of a “rock/country” song. Daneka Nation has seven songs recorded, and has a goal of getting up to 20 tracks. Then hecan get a live band together to play his tunes to the masses.“I've got a post-it note in my bathroom with three goals,” he said. “Number one is to make it inthe music industry. The second one is to play sold out arenas. The third is to play RodeoHouston- the biggest rodeo in the world.”Daneka Nation has been writing his own material, but he has not gotten into the recordingprocess yet. He has a big binder to pull lyrics from to create songs of his own down the road.Daneka said that when he gets his band together, it will be a family friendly event where healways puts in 110%.One thing is certain for Daneka Nation: He is persistent and plans to put everything he's got intohis music.“I refuse to be a one hit wonder,” Daneka said. “If you made it as a one hit wonder, you made enough money to pay someone to write you another hit song. I will never understand a one hitwonder. Daneka Nation will never be that. I don't care if I have to go to California, or Nashville,or wherever I have to go to make a hit song. I'm all in.”Be sure to check out music by Daneka Nation on all major platforms.

On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by award-winning songwriter & artist, Ashley Jordan!ASHLEY JORDAN When it comes to writing slice of life songs and then singing them from the heart, Ashley Jordan is in a league of her own.  Born and raised in the tiny town of Harvard, MA, Ashley spent her summers in the Ozark Mountains with her grandparents, listening to and singing country music. She credits her late grandfather as “the light of her life” and it is clear that his influence as a country-folk singer/ songwriter is part of her DNA. At only 13, Ashley convinced her parents to allow her to travel to iconic Harvard Square in Cambridge where she and her guitar set up shop on a street corner.  While a family member stood by, crowds gathered and her tip jar filled to the brim.  The shy girl came to life in front of an audience and Ashley found her voice and her calling. By the time she was 16, Ashley was touring New England with her first album of original songs. Four albums later, Ashley Jordan is a seasoned live performer who has played to crowds as large as 40,000 opening for everyone from Trace Adkins to The Beach Boys, to Billboard Chart hit-maker Jimmie Allen, to the legendary Charlie Daniels Band. She has scored major market airplay, a first-round Grammy nomination, two unprecedented back-to-back Country Artist of the Year wins at the Boston Music Awards and was twice named a top 10 finalist on Nash Next, where she performed for Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records, Kix Brooks and music legend Desmond Child.  With the upcoming release of her fifth album of original music recorded in Nashville and produced by Jeff Huskins of Little Texas fame, Ashley Jordan is perched at the edge of stardom. Blessed with a powerhouse voice that moves effortlessly from pure country to an authentic pop vibe, Ashley Jordan is on fire and ready to roll. ******Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville is streamed live every Wednesday night 9pm ET/ 6pm PT on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Phil flashes back to one of his favorite performances - Brothers Osborne playing their smash hit, “It Ain't My Fault.” Phil and Vince Gill swap hilarious and humbling never-before-heard stories, spanning from their early days as up and coming artists to modern times amidst their success. Kix Brooks, the Shreveport native and bona fide country music superstar, was only five years old when the original Louisiana Hayride produced by KWKH came to an end in 1960. He grew up in the Highland and Shreve Island neighborhoods, graduated from Louisiana Tech University, and honed his songwriting chops at downtown Shreveport nightclubs like Humpfrees. These days, Brooks calls Nashville home, but visits Shreveport often. During one of those visits, he sat down with All Y'all and Louisiana Public Broadcasting to discuss how his hometown shaped his career in music. Brooks reminisces on his early days gigging in Shreveport, shares some incredible advice for aspiring songwriters, and sings the praises of his favorite Shreveport eatery, Herby-K's. Brooks believes in the work of songwriting. Over the course of his 40-year career, he has written and recorded thousands of songs and forged lifelong friendships with the likes of Guy Clark and Jerry Jeff Walker. During our conversation, Brooks reflects on these friendships and the lessons they taught him. It is an intimate, inspiring conversation about roots music, life in Shreveport, and the daily habits of a working songwriter. The Louisiana Hayride was a live country music jamboree that was broadcast weekly via Shreveport, Louisiana's 50,000-watt powerhouse station KWKH beginning in 1948. The lifespan of the Hayride was brief (the original program ended in 1960) but consequential, with artists like Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, and Kitty Wells changing the look and sound of American pop music from the stage of Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. For our six-episode series exploring the lasting impact of The Louisiana Hayride, All Y'all partnered with Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Over the course of the series, you'll hear from a wide range of interview subjects, including musicians Kix Brooks and AJ Haynes, historians Joey Kent and Rob Gentry, entrepreneur Alton Warwick, and this episode's guest: Shreveport native, music professor and author Dr. Tracey Laird. Dr. Laird is the author of Louisiana Hayride: Radio and Roots Music Along the Red River and co-author of Shreveport Sounds in Black and White. Dr. Laird joined All Y'all's Sara Hebert for an interview by phone from Decator, Georgia, where Laird serves as professor of music at Agnes Scott College. Her books are the best place to start for anyone seeking a well-researched, smart, and fun primer on the mythology, music and meaning of The Louisiana Hayride. In the first episode of our six-part series, Dr. Laird describes Shreveport as “a kind of a crossroads of cultural impulses” where music that fell “outside of the canonical understanding of country music” could find a more receptive audience. How To Land Your First Podcast Guest – Episode 186 Interview podcasts are quite popular. Having a guest provide their knowledge is a great way to create content for your show with less work on your part. So, where can you find guests? More importantly, if you are just launching your show, how can you land your first podcast guest? What is the trick? How do you land that big guest for your podcast? Let's face it. Asking a busy, successful entrepreneurs to give up an hour of their time to give you an interview is a tough ask. Their time is money. How can your podcast be more valuable than their other options? Finding and landing guests are two different tasks. You first find the guest. Then, you work to convince them to be on your show. Let's take this in two steps.   FIND THE GUESTS Before you go fishing for guests, you need to determine what you hope to accomplish on this particular episode. You need to set a goal. If you are hoping to lay the foundation for your affiliate program, we need to find guests that support that affiliate content. If you hope to demonstrate your mastery of a subject, we need to find guests that show your expertise by association. Once you have determined your goal and subject matter for your episode, you need to make a list of possible guests that support that topic. These people could include … People in your contacts in the same niche Authors who have books out or coming out on the topic Entrepreneurs who have created products around the information Journalists who write about the subject matter People who teach the subject Experts who work in the niche   Take five minutes and brainstorm a list of people. When you brainstorm, don't allow the crazy ideas to stop you. Write down every idea. Let the crazy ideas inspire the brilliant possibilities. Once you have a solid list of 15 to 20 names, rank them. Start with the best guest first.   LAND THE GUESTS Now, let's figure out how we get these great guests on your show. Remember, you may not succeed in your first attempt to land these guests. It is probable that the really big names will not accept your first request. Don't let that stop you. Work to create a relationship. Keep at it until they agree to be on your show. Here are six useful tips to help land those big names.   1. FIND THE INTRODUCTION Find people that know your prospect. See if they will introduce you. A radio colleague once came to me seeking an interview with Taylor Swift. I have interviewed her a couple times. He knew I was able to make an introduction for him. I couldn't land him the interview, but I could put in a good word for him. Use the same process to help yourself.   2. THE GATEKEEPER'S FRIEND There are times when big names have people that run their schedule. This could be a personal assistant. It might be a booking agent. You need to make friends with these people. In the music business, I always go through the record label. I need to create a strong relationship with that person in order to be at the top of the list when interview opportunities come about. When the big stars do radio interviews, they typically perform about 15 to 20 in a day. There are typically 150 radio stations in the format that create the music charts. Not all 150 stations will get an interview. I need to create the relationship that will keep me at the top of the list to get the interviews when the opportunity comes along.   3. WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME? To score a guest interview for your podcast, you need to begin by explaining how the interview will benefit your prospective guest. The fact that your audience will love it has no bearing. It really doesn't matter to your guest if your show or your audience will benefit from the guest's appearance. When your guest makes the decision whether to appear on your show, they will only consider how the appearance will benefit them personally. We were able to help a very sick young girl meet Taylor Swift … from her hospital bed. Lolo was a young 11-year-old girl. Her wish was to see Taylor Swift in concert. She was getting tickets for Christmas. However, when Taylor came to town, Lolo was in the hospital fighting for her life. She was in Children's Hospital fighting leukemia. I passed along Lolo's wish to Taylor's record label. It wasn't only the story that got Taylor. I know she loves giving back in very special ways. The Taylor Swift tour was coming through town for two days. I knew there would be some down time the day of the second show. I made it as easy as possible for Taylor to make Lolo's dreams come true. That is exactly what happened. You can see the story HERE. What is in it for your guest? Make it easy.   4. SHOW THEM WHAT YOU'VE GOT Provide your prospects some examples of your great work. If you have endorsements, share those as well. This is great when you have an endorsement from somebody your prospective guest knows and trusts. If you can show your prospective guest that you are a professional with experience by showing them samples of your previous interviews, you will make them more comfortable saying yes to your request. Create a 90-second highlight reel of your show to provide as a sample.   5. SIZE ISN'T THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS Many podcast hosts use their audience size to lure guests. If you have a reasonable audience size, surely use it to your advantage. However, don't stop there. You may be overlooking many other ways you could benefit your guest. You could offer to give your guest exposure on your website. You may have visitors to your site that do not listen to the show. Promote your guest on the site with a link to their content. This will be an additional benefit. Mention your guest and interview in your blog. Again, your guest will be reaching additional audience. You are helping them spread their message beyond your podcast. Offer to promote the interview and your guest's information to your mailing list. You may have many people that receive your newsletter who may never listen to your podcast. By including a link to your guests website in your mailing, your guest will reach additional people. Take credit for that. Your audience for any one of these avenues may be small. However, when you combine the benefit of each distribution method, your proposal for the interview will be more appealing to your guest. Use every audience you have to your advantage.   6. DON'T TRIP OVER THE NAMES YOU DROP Play to your guest's ego by dropping a few names. If you have had other notable guests on your show in the past, let your guest know. Tell your prospective guest they will be among good company. They will feel more comfortable saying yes to your request. We were booking our annual acoustic concert after country duo Brooks & Dunn broke up. The year prior, Kix Brooks played this charity show for us and did a fantastic job. Ronnie Dunn, the other half of the duo, had a new album out. We submitted a request to have him play the show. In that request, we made sure to mention that his partner played the show the year before. Not only did Ronnie Dunn play our acoustic show, he played it fully plugged in with his entire band. That was one of our best shows ever. It is amazing what a little associated peer pressure can do for you.   If you conduct interviews as part of your podcast, use these six steps to land the bigger names. It will not happen overnight. However, consistent fishing with this better bait will surely land you some larger fish. Do you need help with your podcast? E-mail me any time at Coach@PodcastTalentCoach.com. Texas-born Jack Harding began his acting career in Odessa at the tender age of 5 with roles in local commercials and print media – after seeing his first musical a couple of years later, he was bitten by the acting bug and has never looked back.  In 1996 Jack opened Center Stage Theatre, a privatelyfinanced enterprise, as an alternative to the other Board-run not-for profit theaters in the area. In two years, Jack and his crew of faithful volunteers produced 15 productions. In 1998 Jack moved to Los Angeles, California where he's made a Texas sized splash in Hollywood. He has been eaten by a giant snake in the SYFY cult hit “Mega Python v/s Gater-oid”, kicked across the Fangtasia bar in HBO's “True Blood”, and played Taco's singing cowboy on FX's “The League”. Harding's short film - LET ME SEE YOUR EYES, which he wrote and stars in, started it's festival circuit with a win for Best Horror Short at the Shriekfest Film Festival 2014. It's official selection roster includes: Thriller Chiller Film Festival - HorrorQuest - Fargo Fantastic Film Festival and Durango Independent Film Festival. His upcoming films include PIRATE'S CODE - THE ADVENTURES OF MICKEY MATSON where he stars with Christopher Lloyd and Frank Collison, and BORN WILD where he stars with Kix Brooks, William Shockley, and Justin Deeley - now available at Walmart and VOD.
