All the way from Brussels, Belgium - please welcome ECHT! bassist FEDERICO PECORARO to episode 084! An honor and privilege to connect across the world with a member of one of the most exhilarating bands I've had the good fortune of stumbling upon in many, many moons. An idiosyncratic quartet since 2017, ECHT! (Brusselier for ‘The Real Thing') is remarkably adept at reverse engineering electronic music, a modus operandi of progressive-minded live instrumentation unleashed on a lava-like level beyond your wildest imagination. These brilliant lads blend a malevolent concoction of 'Belgian Trap Jazz' that oscillates through soundscapes of sonic revolution. On March 7, 2025 ECHT! will release their highly-anticipated third full-length LP Boilerism via the Sdban Ultra label. 00:00 - episode 084 preview 03:40 - The Upful Update 07:25 - introducing FEDERICO from ECHT! 13:30 - interview w/ Federico Pecoraro [72 min] 1:24:50 - afterglow > ViBE Junkie Jamz Your humble narrator randomly discovered ECHT! via debut LP INWANE, during a lysergic intercontinental deep dive in early January 2022. In the interim three years, the band has been omnipresent in my ear goggles, and I've enthusiastically evangelized the mighty ECHT! everywhere I've set foot, copious festivals and dancefloors from coast to coast . Thanks to Seb at Sdban Ultra, I finally had the pleasure to conversate with ECHT! low-end technician Federico via the interwebs, 5pm in Brussels, 8am here in the East Bay. For over an hour, we unpack the bombastic unicorn magic that makes ECHT! tick tick boom! Including - but not limited to: new LP Boilerism; embryonic band origin story; the concept/execution of the ECHT! brand of kaleidoscopic sound art; four musicians moving as one organism; the Brussels sound/scene; influences/inspirations from J Dilla to Jonwayne, Skee Mask, Aphex Twin, and even D'Angelo(!); the challenging realities of touring internationally; bouncing back from injuries; programming a live set; their individual and collective creative process, keeping the music in constant evolution; sick side projects, and so much more. ECHT! bio A **deep bow** of gratitude to Federico, the members of ECHT!, and Seb at the label, for making this mothership connection possible. Trumpeter/composer Keyon Harrold was born and raised in Ferguson, MO to a musical family. He is the son of pastors and one of 16 children. As a boy, a trumpet was placed in his hands, and the rest is history. He moved to New York to study at The New School in the 1990s and became part of a legendary generation of musicians associated with the neo soul movement, including Common, Bilal, Roy Hargrove, The Roots, and Robert Glasper. Harrold is a reliable and sought after player among big acts, and he's worked with Jay-Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, Eminem, Maxwell, Mac Miller and Snoop Dogg. At the same time he's a seriously gifted jazz improviser and composer, who was mentored by trumpeter Charles Tolliver, and who was once referred to as “the future of the trumpet” by Wynton Marsalis. He supplied all of the trumpet playing in Don Cheadle's Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead, playing to match Cheadle's on-screen performance as Miles. The soundtrack to the film won a Grammy. But while Keyon has enjoyed what might appear to be a charmed career, he has also had a series of unexpected setbacks and heavy lived experiences that contribute to his musical journey. His new album Foreverland is a celebration of his multidimensional career and his sensitivity as an artist, proving that Harrold is a master of channeling his lived experience through his horn. The album features 10 original songs that explore themes of empowerment, positivity, love, loss, and vulnerability. And it's a family affair — nearly every musician is a longtime friend, including Common, Robert Glasper, Laura Mvula, Chris Dave, Marcus Gilmore, Nir Felder, Randy Runyon, BIGYUKI, Burniss Travis and many others. Here he talks about Foreverland, how a series of losses in his life ultimately led him to make “something beautiful, something positive, something inspiring,” and his reflections on the early days of his career as part of a community of like minded musicians who were “always open.” www.third-story.com www.patreon.com/thirdstorypodcast

As live-action Star Wars shows have paused for the moment, our trio of rebels have continued with their review of Star Wars: Rebels with season 2! This is Maff's first time watching too, so hearing his reactions is very interesting! In more detail, this episode is a sequel to the first season of Rebels and the trio's first RR episode, so make sure you go back and listen to that if you haven't already, but in this episode, they discuss how season 2 feels different from season 1, it's comparisons to Andor and the best & worst parts of the show (including sound design). Maff then notes how he's been consuming far more Star Wars content than he expected, Dave talks about The Clone Wars and then they discuss Hondo Ohnaka and the purrgils. The trio then delve into Ahsoka's character and of course, the finale; Twilight Of The Apprentice! You can listen to this on any podcast app, or watch the video version at https://youtube.com/genuinechitchat! “Man's Best Friend” is the topic of the conversation this episode; Megan & Mike discuss with Dave Horrocks what it's like owning a dog, training, naming, related media and more! Part 1 of these 3 dog lovers' conversation starts with their earliest memories of these furry friends, before recounting how Dave got Tasha and how Megan & Mike got Willow, their experiences of training puppies, going on walks, some fun stories of dog encounters are then recounted before a small movie tangent and a discussion on naming the pups. Next week part 2 will be released (Patreons already have access) - the discussion regarding naming dogs continues, before talking about some negative interactions with dogs, dogs' habits & quirks, fireworks are spoken about, how one should respond to a dog doing something “bad” and how their dogs misbehave, crate training and the conversation draws to a close with a discussion on dog-related media. This week the motley crew discuss something put forward by a listener months ago but Dave hasn't hosted (Yay?). Dave is joined bu the Dans and Mak to dicuss what would happen in a battle royale with a twist. You can splice your arms, legs, body and head for that of another animal then fight your opponent to the death for a gimongous amount of money. Think Squid Game crossed with The Hunger Games cross with Animal Farm. We chose our animals parts then went into Trumps to find out the eventual winner. This to Chris (Dave's brother) for suggesting the topic - we had a lot of fun discussing it Is there something you think we should talk about or perhaps you'd like to be on the show? Let us know using the links in the show notes. If you like what we do, please share, we're happy to spread the idiocy, laughter and fun. Let us know your thoughts on what we've discussed on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok or email at JFAIPodcast@Gmail.com.
