We have finally reached the end of our Land Before Time series! It's been a fun ride but the VHS direct to video series has reached it's end. The gang also has a huge announcement on the future of the channel and the video reactions! Just have to tune into the audio reaction tonight to find out what the announcement is. This is the first film in the series to be directed by Grosvenor, as well as the first film in which Anndi McAfee voices Cera (replacing Candace Hutson, the final remaining cast member from the first instalment), Aria Noelle Curzon voices Ducky, and Miriam Flynn voices Grandma Longneck. It is also the only film in which Brandon LaCroix plays Littlefoot; it is the first in which Thomas Dekker provides the singing voice for Littlefoot. Three songs for the film were written by Michele Brourman and Amanda McBroom, with music composed by Michael Tavera and the London Symphony Orchestra. One day, a swarm of "leaf-gobblers" descends upon the Great Valley, devouring all plants and reducing it to a barren wasteland. The inhabitants of the Great Valley have no choice but to find another place where they can survive until the plants have grown back. The dinosaurs then leave the Great Valley to go look for food. After days of not finding anything Littlefoot and his friends leave to go look for food themselves. They end up finding the ocean (Big Water), and they decide to sail across the Big Water to find food. They end up on an island with different plants they've never seen before. The next morning, the children wake up to the shadow of a Sharptooth, only to find that it is Chomper, the young Sharptooth who hatched in their care before returning to his parents in the second film. Since then, Chomper has learned how to speak. Chomper takes them to a safe refuge to hide from his parents. Unaware of Chomper and the others, a Giganotosaurus has been living on the island and begins hunting down the children. After finding a hideout, Littlefoot went back to the hideout, the Giganotosaurus from earlier finds and chases the children towards a cliff above the big water. Chomper tries to help, but is overcome by the Sharptooth. His parents come to the rescue on Chomper (and the same thing for the kids) and battle the Sharptooth near the edge of the island, during which he falls into the Big Water and takes Chomper with him, much to his parents' shock. Littlefoot plunges in to save Chomper while the Sharptooth is swept away by the current. Another swimming Sharptooth appears, but this time, they discovered an Elasmosaurus named Elsie who then saves them both from drowning. She returns them to the island, where Chomper's grateful parents promise never to eat the children; Chomper's father promises the same while grudgingly admitting that, after sniffing Spike (who had eaten some of the foul-smelling hideout), anything that smelt that bad wouldn't taste very good anyway. Chomper's mother also nuzzles Littlefoot, in gratitude for his actions to save Chomper from drowning. Cera realizes her mistake and accepts that not all Sharpteeth are so bad and monstrous as she thought. Elsie offers to take them across the sea, so Chomper and his parents happily bid them farewell, promising that they will see each other again. When they get back on the mainland, they find that the herd found a lush, green, little sanctuary on the shore where they can stay until the Great Valley has become fertile again. As the credits roll, the film shows when the Great Valley did, the herd returns home.

Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike live a carefree life in the Great Valley under their families' watchful eyes. One day, the gang attempts to get to the sheltering grass to play, but land in the sinking sand surrounding it. The adults rescue them and chastise them for their recklessness. The next night, the children have a secret meeting and decide to prove their bravery and maturity by venturing into the Mysterious Beyond, a location outside the Valley that is inhabited by Sharpteeth. Before they leave, they notice two eggnappers, Ozzy and Strut, stealing an egg from the nest of Ducky's mother. The children pursue the intruders into the Mysterious Beyond. During a thunderstorm, an ensuing landslide damages the Great Wall that surrounds the Valley and protects it from the Sharpteeth, and the stolen egg rolls safely back to the nest, but the group does not notice this in the confusion. In the Mysterious Beyond, the group discover another, larger egg and mistake it for the original. The gang transports the egg into the Valley, and despite finding the original egg back in Ducky's nest, they decide to hatch it. The gang doesn't realize it's from another nest. The egg eventually hatches, revealing a baby Sharptooth. Although Littlefoot's friends are frightened off, Littlefoot quickly realizes that the baby Sharptooth is not yet dangerous, and decides to raise the newly christened "Chomper" as his parent. This task proves difficult as Chomper is not an herbivore, and Littlefoot has no experience raising a child. Ozzy and Strut appear to exact revenge on the group for foiling their earlier theft, but are driven away by Chomper's enlarged shadow, which they mistake for that of an adult Sharptooth. The rest of the gang meets Chomper and they accept him as part of the group until he hungrily bites Cera by accident. The group's knee-jerk reaction causes Chomper to run off in tears. The others follow him to a smoking mountain, where Ozzy and Strut attempt once more to attack the children, but are stopped when the mountain's eruption sends them plummeting down a canyon. After the group escapes, they encounter two adult Sharpteeth, who have managed to enter the Valley through the opening in the Great Wall. The whole Great Valley population drives the Sharpteeth off, and the children make it back to their families, but Chomper feels left out and runs away again. The adults inquire as to how the Sharpteeth entered the Valley, prompting the children to explain the events that resulted in the landslide. The adults set off to put together a plan to close the opening for good, telling the children to stay behind. Littlefoot runs to the forest to find Chomper. After finding him, they are chased and cornered by the two Sharpteeth. Chomper roars at them, and they recognize him as their son and leave with him. Littlefoot is then kidnapped by Ozzy and Strut, who plan to throw him off the Great Wall. Chomper hears Littlefoot screaming and leads his parents to Littlefoot's location. Chomper's parents rescue Chomper from an attempted intervention, and inadvertently do the same thing for Littlefoot by chasing Ozzy and Strut back into the Mysterious Beyond. Littlefoot bids Chomper farewell as he follows his parents, and he returns to the Valley to assist the adults in sealing up the entrance between the Valley and the Mysterious Beyond. Following his experiences, Littlefoot tells his grandparents that being young is not so bad after all, but decides he still looks forward to growing up.

How does the time fly? 1984 was an incredible year for Metaldom. The new release racks were filled with albums that are not only all time classics now, but helped shape the Metal world as we know it today. So this week we do a deep dive into that year that was. Apart from the amazing records, there were an obscene amount of mandatory outfits that formed. And there were news events that we still talk about today. Where's our logo sticker covered Delorian??!! In our "News, Views and Tunes", we attend the 40th (!!) anniversay Vader tour and make Terry Butler an honourary Winnipegger. Musically, we crank some Gwar, Repulsion, Uniform Choice, Black Flag, Living Death, C.O.C., Thrust, Piledriver, Messiah, Axewitch, Axekiller, Inhuman Condition, Sharptooth and Knoll. Horns Up!

We're diving super far into the past this week and going way back to the prehistoric era with The Land Before Time (1988). This movie is considered an ultimate found family trope and with good reason when you consider how they incorporated dinosaurs into the framework. So it's no wonder that the film cemented its legacy into our brains through such unique storytelling… Not to mention about a billion sequels. As always we have to ask if this tale of survival and leaf eating is just as heartwarming to watch thirty years later, or would we rather feed the VHS to a Sharptooth? Let's find out together!

Brian McTernan needs no introduction, but we'll give him one anyway. Brian is a producer and musician whose work in the alternative scene has influenced some of the most notable records of the last twenty years. Everyone from Texas Is The Reason to Darkest Hour, Circa Survive, Sharptooth, and more owe a few thanks to Brian for his work behind the boards. But like all great creatives, Brian has stories he wants to share, and that's what people get on the new album from his incredible hardcore band, Be Well. The heavier side of alternative music is sometimes written off as being reserved for young people. When teenage angst meets the struggle to survive adulthood, creativity blossoms in a unique way that often expresses itself through heavy music. Many of the greatest hardcore albums are written by people in their late teens and early twenties who are speaking to experiences recognized by their peers. Those same listeners age, just like the musicians, but the embrace of heavy music often fades along the way. Be Well is an exception. While their music can and will inspire young listeners, the band's work speaks directly to the lives of those deep into adulthood. The group's latest record, The Weight And The Cost, tackles the frustrations of parenting alongside the constant struggle to understand ourselves. It's in McTernan's ability to speak on both topics that magic is found, and the resulting recordings are sure to provide comfort to many during these uncertain times. On this episode of Inside Music, Brian chats with host James Shotwell about his history in production and how the challenges of creative expression change with age. The pair also discuss the influence of Brian's former band, Battery, as well as the way his work will be remembered in the years to co

We have another double header for you with first, an interview with Lauren Kashan, the lead vocalist of the Baltimore-based hardcore punk band Sharptooth, and then a chat with frontman Matt Honeycutt of the Texas-based metalcore band Kublai Khan. Sharptooth released their debut album Clever Girl last year. They just announced they will be joining Cane Hill (lead singer Elijah Witt was on Episode #83) on tour starting on September 21st in Orlando through November 3rd in New Orleans (dates below). During our interview, we talked about being on the Warped Tour, the lessons learned by touring, her ambition and passion for music, the topic of gender identity, the representation of women and people of color in metal and hardcore and the need for allies for these discussions, the need for equality, and about their live shows. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/freshistheword/message

In this FUN SIZE episode, Ream and Patrick talk about The Land Before Time! The Land Before Time is a 1988 American-Irish animated adventure drama film directed and produced by Don Bluth and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall. Produced by Sullivan Bluth Studios, Amblin Entertainment and Lucasfilm, it features dinosaurs living in the prehistoric times. The plot concerns a young Longneck named Littlefoot who is orphaned[4] when his mother is killed by a Sharptooth. Littlefoot flees famine and upheaval to search for the Great Valley, an area spared from devastation. On his journey, he meets four young companions: Cera the Threehorn, Ducky the Bigmouth, Petrie the Flyer, and Spike the Spiketail. The film explores issues of prejudice between the different species and the hardships they endure in their journey as they are guided by the spirit of Littlefoot's mother and forced to deal with the Sharptooth. This is the only Don Bluth film of the 1980s in which Dom DeLuise did not participate (instead, he starred in Disney's Oliver & Company that same year), and the only film in The Land Before Time series that is not a musical, as well as the only one to be released theatrically worldwide. Released by Universal Pictures on November 18, 1988, the film spawned a franchise with thirteen direct-to-video sequels and a television series as well as merchandise. This episode was very fun!

This week is the season finale of the eduPUNX Podcast and I'm stoked to close out the season with a truly interesting and thoughtful dude. Derek Zanetti is the Homeless Gospel Choir. Zanetti writes protest songs that are meant to make people think and find some form of comfort. In this episode, we dig into what it takes to create a powerful protest song - and the answer might surprise you! We discuss what it's like coming up a poor kid, finding a home in punk, and being a rebellious kid and what that looked like in the classroom, and how Mr. Rogers really was the best educator.Hope you like this conversation, and hope you enjoy Derek's music! Big thanks to the folks at A-F Records as well as Josh Bakaitus at Secret Frnds for making this conversation possible.EPISODE NOTES:- Green Day's "Dookie" was Derek's gateway into punk - it's helped him discover that his weirdness was a good thing. Normal is overrated.- We shout out some great protest bands - like War on Women, Anti-Flag, and Sharptooth.- In a conversation on Zinn, I brought up Michael Bronski's companion book, "A Queer History of the United States," a book I loved reading in college.- Derek, a massive Mr. Rogers fan, referenced this quote in the conversation - he couldn't peg it completely, but I found it thanks to internet!- And if you dig Mr. Rogers, make sure you check out the book, "I’m proud of you,” by Tim Madigan - which chronicles Madigan's relationship with Fred Rogers- Maybe it’s the holidays, but Derek is convinced his favorite film is "It's a Wonderful Life."- We're both big fans of the show, "Black mirror," and hopefully you haven't missed out on the trailers for the new season!MUSIC NOTES:- This week you heard the songs, "Depression," and "Normal," from Derek's new Homeless Gospel Choir album, "Normal," which is out now on A-F Records!- You can snag digital or physical copies by visiting thehomelessgospelchoir.com or by checking out the A-F store, over at a-frecords.limitedrun.com.- A-F Records has some sweet gift card deals available right now as well, so if you wanna snag something for the punk in your life, but aren't sure what to get - snag them a gift card!ADVERTISING NOTES:- This week, I shared information about the National Suicide Prevention lifeline. The holidays can be difficult for many people for many different reasons and sometimes it can feel like too much - so please know that you have an outlet in case you need someone to speak with when you aren't feeling great.- Call 1-800-279-TALK (8255) if you need some support.- And feel free to reach out to us on social or via email if you need someone to talk with as well! we're here for you - we love you.FOLLOW, RATE, REVIEW, SUBSCRIBE, AND SHARE!- Any love on the iTunes app helps! Lauren Kashan is the vocalist of the melodic-hardcore band, Sharptooth (Pure Noise Records). She joins Jordan and Justin in the CCompound to share her story of joining the band and eventually realizing her dream of signing a record deal and touring nationally with bands she looks up to. But as we do on Chocolate Croissants, we dig much more into the human being than simply what they're otherwise known for. Lauren chats about her childhood and how it shaped her careers as a musician and a herpetoculturist (i.e. she brings crocodiles to schools!) She digs into how meditation influences her life, her screaming techniques, finding identity through hardcore music, and how a Sharptooth show brought her and her mom closer together. Lauren also chats about being a woman in the hardcore scene and introducing social issues and politics into her art. Many more will know about her years from now...but we're happy to share this gem of a human with you now! There are a few moments of true discovery in these 30 minutes and it's pretty wonderful to hear. And don't forget! The new Sharptooth album, "Clever Girl," which comes out TODAY on Pure Noise Records. 19:Lauren Kashan (Sharptooth) &Femmes in Hardcore WELCOME TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST! This week, Katy Hamm returns as the host of the podcast to bring you a special chat with a very badass guest. Lauren Kashan is the lead singer for the melodic hardcore band, Sharptooth. Lauren also holds a Herpetology degree from Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a self-proclaimed Reptile Lady and works as an Environmental educator, regularly visiting schools, libraries, and other spaces where she teaches folks about reptiles and other fun creatures. In this episode, Katy and Lauren bond over their shared love of hardcore music, wanting more femme representation in hardcore, and how fighting the patriarchy often starts in the pit. Katy's return to hosting duties is a doozy this week and you are bound to love it! And you get to hear some of the kickass tunes from the new Sharptooth album, Clever Girl, which is out THIS FRIDAY through Pure Noise Records. And stay tuned later this week for an extended episode of Katy and Lauren's chat - cuz they just had SO MUCH to talk about this week!EPISODE NOTES:- Just a heads up - there is A LOT of explicit language on this episode.- I absolutely love that Sharptooth's name is a reference to Land Before Time - because it's one of my favorite movies from my childhood.- And the new album, "Clever Girl," is a reference to Jurassic Park - because after all, Lauren loves Velociraptors.- Lauren suggests checking out the Gone series from Michael Grant.- Both Katy and Lauren have recently gone through the Dave Eggars book, "The Circle," which was adapted and released as a film this year.- Another commonality among Katy and Lauren is their love for the album, "Diamond" by Stick to Your Guns. - Adding more to their shared obsessions, each also have a tattoo for the band Every Time I Die - Katy's being a quote from the song "Ebolarama," and Lauren's being an inner lip tattoo of the title of the band's debut LP, Hot Damn!- in a not-so surprising turn of events, it is not shocking to learn that the Herpetologist and massive animal/reptile lover/educator, Lauren, owns every single Animorphs book ever released. MUSIC NOTES:- This week we got to share tunes from the new Sharptooth album, "Clever Girl," which comes out THIS FRIDAY on Pure Noise Records.- You can snag all sorts of merch bundles, including CD, vinyl, and digital copies of the new album by visiting Sharptooth.Merchnow.com.- Make sure to also check out the band's new music video for the politically charged title track, "Clever Girl," on youtube!- If you like what you heard from the band, make sure you catch them on tour with Stray from the Path and Anti-Flag this winter - a tour that was very recently announced! This week on Rewatchability we chat about Don Bluth's 1988 tearjerker The Land of Time, the timeless (pun intended) story of a small dinosaur named Littlefoot's quest to travel from one crappy place to another nicer place. While on his journey, every horrible thing you could possibly imagine happens to this kid-- his mother dies, he gets chased by a T-Rex named Sharptooth... I guess that's just two things. Plus the whole thing's narrated by Commissioner Gordon! It was one of our favourites as kids, but how does the movie hold up now? Is it too sad for kids? Why does Don Bluth hate children? What did George Lucas cut out of this movie? Why did they make so many sequels to this movie? Why do we talk so much about Family Feud in this episode? To hear us answer these questions and more download the episode, or better yet, subscribe on Apple Podcasts! And be sure to follow us on Twitter!
