Lost to another player’s voltron’ed up commander, who also went on to win the game. Game two - Was able to get an infect counter on every player at the table. Got out Seedborn Muse and Karn’s bastion. The player on my right won with a combo where he had infinite mana and card draw, cast Enter the Infinite, put season’s past on top of his library, used beast within on all of our permanents, then uses reality shift to mill out libraries.  Game 1 Urza comboed off on Turn 4 Game 2 Urza comboed off on Turn 5 Edgar Markov played by Ivan The Ur0Dragon played by Simon Michael Rite of Replicationed a Woodfall Primus and left Ivan (playing Edgar with a single plains). However, Ivan had Azor’s Gateway, and eventually flipped it, adding 40ish mana each turn Simon (Ur-Dragon) took out Michael  Ivan (Edgar) used Forerunner of the Legion to find Mirror Entity. I had Raff in play and a Contagion Engine, and I politiced Ivan to attack Simon (otherwise I’d wipe his team of 1/1s) On my turn, I cast Karn Liberated, and exiled the flipped Azor’s gateway. Riku of Two Reflections played by Michael Game 3 Everyone played lower powered decks Ryan Games We Played 408.2 -> 113.3 Commander Rules! Helmed by Raff Capashen, Ship’s Mage The idea here is that I can flash in Planeswalkers on the person to my right’s endstep, and then untap and wrath away all the creatures https://archidekt.com/decks/117406#Azorius_Super_Friends Planeswalkers - 23 (This might be too many) Tell the story of how TH does Hypergeometric Distribution In probability theory and statistics, the hypergeometric distribution is a discrete probability distribution that describes the probability of successes (random draws for which the object drawn has a specified feature) in draws, without replacement, from a finite population of size With 20 PW it’s roughly 80% chance to draw one on Turn 1, and it goes up from there 2 Gideons, 4 Jaces, 2 Karns, 2 Narsets, 3 Teferis, 2 Tezzerets, 2 Ugins Could have Ultimated Karn Liberated the turn I played him (but that’s not super fun). Almost ultimated Narset, Transcendant (Emblem, opponent’s can’t cast non-creature spells)  Board Wipes! 6 (and don’t forget about Humility) Interaction - 10 The Chain Veil Deepglow Skate Arena and Academy Rector (Omniscience, Inexorable Tide, Meishin, the Mind Cage, Mystic Barrier, Sphere of Safety Synergy - 9 All mana based ramp, the usual suspects, Sol Ring, Signet, Thought Vessel, Mana Vault Ramp - 9 Karn’s Bastion Kor Haven Kjeldoran Outpost Winding Canyons (This is greedy with only 5 creatures, but explain WHY) Lands - 38 Many of the cards I’ve talked about previously fit into this category, so I’ll just go over a few of the others here: Teferi’s Protection (How Appropriate!) Ignite the Beacon Contagion Engine Flex - 10 Summary: The deck played OK, but it feels like it needs more card draw. Disciple of Gix Alden playing Meren of Clan Nel Toth Zack did something SILLY this game (wrathing with 22 creatures in play while Ryan had Revel in Riches Ryan ended up winning after doing some Erratic Portal shenanigans with Gonti and Panharmonicon, then using Alden’s Overwhelming Stampede and Eldrazi Monument for the win Zack playing Niv-Mizzet Parun Ryan playing Mr. OPC Grenzo Ben playing Jodah Alden playing Edgar Markov Ryan ended up winning when Alden had a crazy Damnable Pact on the stack by sacking a bunch of goblins to Siege Gang Commander and Goblin Sharpshooter Game 2 Zack playing Saheeli Ryan playing Alden’s Edgar Markov deck Ben playing Jodah Alden playing Lord Windgrace Ben ended up winning this game with a hefty amount of planeswalkers, including Ultimating Ral, Izzet Viceroy Game 3 We played 3 games LGS Fun! A lot of new players have trouble knowing how to make their decks better. How often are you playing the deck? How often do you find yourself with dead cards in hand? How do you know when it’s time to upgrade your decks? Decide if you’re completely scrapping the deck, or just adding a few cards Is there a new Commander that you want to helm the deck? That’s closer to an overhaul Decide what your Goal is going to be: entire deck overhaul vs. small upgrade Maybe you save up for big upgrade, but there are plenty of good cards that are cheap AND good! Trade in old cards that you may not want anymore. A lot of stores give you a bonus if you take store credit over cash. Updating your deck doesn’t have to cost a TON of money. Give the deck several plays with the new cards before you decide if you like them or not. Ask playgroup if you can start a game with a couple of new cards in your opening hand. Ryan -  I keep the last 20 or so cards originally cut from the deck, WITH the deck, so that I can always try out something new, when I find something that isn’t working. Play it Focus on where you deck is weak. Do this by asking yourself some questions What decks have been problematic / have I been losing to? How have those decks been winning? Mana troubles? Never having enough cards in hand? Losing to problematic Artifacts/Enchantments? How has my deck been losing? Do you often find yourself with a bunch of high casting cost cards in your hand. Maybe it’s time to lower your curve Are there times when your deck isn’t doing what it’s supposed to - why is that? If built with slot theory and deck is doing okay - swap slot for slot (Ie. Removal for Removal) If you switch cards 1 for 1 from slots write down what you swapped and when you draw new card think if you’d rather have new card or old card. If you’re getting decimated - reevaluate which slots you have, and how many cards you assign to each slot type Slot Theory When a new set comes out if you see a card you like add a note in your phone. EDHRec new cards feature YouTube Videos Podcasts Scryfall - look for similar cards Lastly...your friends! - Consult friends and playgroup for advice. All of us Magic players LOVE talking about Magic What are some resources for inspiration on upgrading your deck. Counter magic heavy? Combo heavy? Infect? Token based decks Consider your meta How can you maximize upgrading your deck? Changing the way your deck functions by removing too many cards that make your deck an deck (tokens, discard, control, Sometimes upgrading a deck turns into me brewing a new deck. Potential Pitfalls I consider this one of the first successful EDH decks I’ve ever built It was originally a budget brew for Season Two of the EDH League. I’ve put a few new cards into the deck, but I’m starting to see cards that feel not great when I draw them. Lands - 38 Creatures - 23 Instants - 9 Sorceries - 9 Enchantments - 10 Artifacts - 11 Deck Stats Exquisite Blood Ethereal Absolution Approach of the Second Sun Hour of Revelation Kaya's Wrath (We’ll talk about why this is not so great) Fumigate Cards I want to add Upgrading Zack’s Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim Main Topic - Updating your decks (Inspired by Quincy Quail @quailancer on Twitter) Thank everyone for listening. Tatyana was dead. Sergei was dead. Maurer wasn’t sure what he was. The deal was simple and perfect. A conception bathed in a sense of infamy, but answered by the urgency of nobility and want. The Markovs had been generous that day so long ago, lit by candles and surrounded by stone and blue blood. Edgar Markov was a smart man, a calculating man, one who spoke of need and duty. The blood of Stensia would live on he proclaimed loudly, his hands staining black crimson in the basin of prepared elixir. And they followed. One by one, marching to his new tomorrow. Toward an eternity beyond death. Even then Strephan Maurer was mad. Even then he was a fool. And even now, he waits for an eternity, not fearing his coming hunters. Death awaits. Vampires, cats, dragons, and wizards, oh my!  This week we’re back with another episode of our favorite CCG, Magic: The Gathering.  We have a ton of fun playing Commander format Magic when we all get together, so we thought it would be fun to showcase the latest precon decks in the Commander series, Commander 17. Commander 17 focused on tribal decks, so each of these decks fit that theme.  The new Eminence ability was also introduced, which allows for these commanders to start manipulating the battlefield before they even make it there.  Teej is playing Draconic Domination, which is obviously dragon-themed.  Schnell and his cats are running Feline Ferocity.  Junior rolls with the patriarch of the Markov clan, Edgar Markov, and plays Vampiric Bloodlust.  Nelson seeks to use wizards and countermagic to run everyone’s day, so he’s playing Arcane Wizardry.  In order to show off how these decks play directly out of the box, everyone is playing a completely un-modified version of each deck. This week in beer Teej steps up his game as he’s recovering from a nasty cold and goes with Maibock from Capital Brewing, Schnell channels his inner Ronald McDonald and drinks Ocular Pat-Down from Odd Side Ales, Junior throws a jab at Teej’s deck and drinks Magic Dragon Double IPA from Hop Haus Brewing Company, and Nelson aims to make his opponents suffer as he drinks Tears of My Enemies from Ale Asylum.
