“When it's done, I think it'll be fine.” Mark Wehe, a member of the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show board of directors, summed up his feelings after a presentation April 15 by Wilson County Judge Hank Whitman, about plans to revamp and expand the Wilson County Expo and Community Center. Whitman presented the plans to the board members, after an invitation from board President Craig Mutz. Mutz had served as a member of the seven-member “Wilson County Expo Center Improvement Steering Committee” that advised Whitman and county commissioners regarding plans for renovation of the existing expo facility — formerly known...Article Link
In today's episode, Sarah reflects on routines, noting that her recent episode on morning routines is already obsolete (as it applies to her own morning routine, anyway!). She shares thoughts about being flexible as you set your routines, and the need to continually re-evaluate, as well as her new morning routine. Then, she pivots to all things weekend planning, as inspired by her friend noting that weekends were feeling . . . unsatisfying at times (Kae blogs at gratefulkae.com). (00:00) Understanding Golf Equipment Innovations This chapter addresses the curious topic of mini drivers in the golfing world. I question why golfers might choose a mini driver, often likened to a two wood, and whether its unique features truly offer benefits over traditional drivers and fairway woods. We explore how the shorter shaft of a mini driver allows for greater control and center face contact, which can enhance distance and accuracy, key selling points for golf equipment. Additionally, we compare the design and functionality of mini drivers to traditional three woods, noting that the mini driver's larger face and modified sole plate make it suitable for tee shots but less effective in rough conditions. This prompts a broader conversation about why more golfers don't simply shorten their driver shafts for improved performance. Finally, we consider which club a mini driver might replace in a golfer's bag, highlighting the trade-offs in performance and usability. (13:06) Improving Golf Game With Balanced Putter This chapter focuses on the intricacies of golf putting, particularly the role of lie angle balance in putters. We explore the benefits of using a lie angle balanced putter, emphasizing its ability to maintain alignment and prevent twisting, thereby enhancing performance. Various putter designs, including the original Directed Force and DF3, are discussed for their stability and aesthetics. The importance of proper fitting for these putters is highlighted, noting how an ideal fit can significantly improve a golfer's game. Anecdotes about golfers who prioritize aesthetics over performance and the challenges of obtaining these popular putters due to high demand are shared. The conversation underscores the impact of improved putting on overall golf performance and the value of combining fitting with putting techniques to save strokes on the course. (23:35) Exploring Golf Equipment Innovations This chapter explores the fascinating world of golf innovation, particularly focusing on the introduction of 3D-printed irons and clubs with bulge and roll technology. We examine the pros and cons of these advancements, considering how they might add complexity for the average golfer while offering potential advantages. We reflect on past innovations like graphite shafts and metal club heads, which initially faced skepticism but eventually revolutionized the game. We also revisit the concept of single-length irons, a polarizing idea tested by players like Bryson DeChambeau and brands such as Cobra and Wilson. The discussion highlights the challenges these clubs present, especially with long-shafted wedges and short-shafted long irons, emphasizing the importance of balance in design to enhance performance without complicating play. (35:54) Golf Gear Maintenance and Trends This chapter focuses on the excitement and preparation for the upcoming golf season, with a particular emphasis on cleaning and maintaining golf equipment. We discuss the process of cleaning club heads and grips, as well as taking inventory of golf balls and other equipment. The conversation also touches on the experience of attending golf shows, which sometimes feel more like flea markets, and the benefits of participating in golf tournaments that offer perks like new grips. We highlight the importance of having properly gripped clubs and contemplate the need for new golf shoes, debating the merits of spiked versus spikeless designs. Emphasizing performance, we conclude that while trends may lean toward spikeless shoes, serious golfers benefit from the stability and traction that spiked shoes provide, especially on uneven terrain. (44:11) Importance of Golf Shoe Spikes This chapter focuses on the importance of proper footwear in golf, emphasizing that traditional golf spikes provide the best traction on the course. We explore the misconception that casual shoes like slippers or tennis shoes are sufficient for playing good golf. Instead, we advocate for using spiked shoes to ensure stability and enhance performance. With a nod to the enduring truth about footwear in golf, we remind listeners to equip themselves with the right shoes to anchor effectively to the ground during play.

I was going through my journal for 2024 and as I was reading the month of January, I realized a dynamic within myself that was causing me great anxiety and stress within myself: the subject was tithing.I didn't talk about this to debate about whether one should or not. That was and is not the purpose of this episode. The purpose of this episode was for you to get in touch with what is happening within you when you perceive you are not being obedient to God in an area of your life that you are expecting or even think God is expecting of you? When you hear or read God's word, what are your immediate expectations? Spring brings a lot of menu activity, and the most recent launches show a focus on upgraded ingredients and formats. Menu Talk hosts Bret Thorn, senior food & beverage editor of Nation's Restaurant News and Restaurant Hospitality, and Pat Cobe, senior menu editor of Restaurant Business, noted Maggiano's updates, which include Wagyu meatballs and Chicken Parmesan topped with freshly grated cheese. Bret also cited Tender Greens' menu upgrades, which include the artisan Laura Chenel goat cheese as an ingredient, along with heirloom cherry tomatoes and Great Northern beans. The pair also observed more fresh vegetables on menus, with carrots—an everyday veggie—getting treated to some fancy preparations at restaurants. Another trend that's gaining steam is happening at Italian concepts. Your Pie is doing pizza shop sandwiches, filling their proprietary pizza dough with various ingredients and baking them into portable, handheld items. All have sauces based on ranch, America's favorite sauce flavor, it seems. The duo also shared an interview with Scott Davis, chief concept officer for Noodles & Company, the fast casual that just experienced a major menu upgrade two years in the making. Davis talks about how he and his culinary team responded to customers' cravings for more generous portions of sauce, more mac ‘n cheese variations, more protein and more bold, global flavors. All of those show up in the new menu additions. Give a listen.

We all think we know what self-talk is. But I think we miss the gravity of it. I'm reminded of the joke where one fish asks another fish "how's the water?" The other fish replies, "what the heck is water?" We were never introduced to our own self-talk, it was there since the day we were conceived to varying degrees. We are not necessarily conscious of it. In this episode we expand on self-talk to help you conceptualize how it is your very perception of life. My guest is Marianne Renner. I've gotten to know Marianne well over the last year and she has a real story of not only changing her self-talk, but transforming herself in a way that she can't really even recognize the person she used to be. She lost her mom at an early age and was left with a broken hearted father. She fell into addiction. She considered ending her life. Even tried. And then had one of those divine moments of clarity. To me it is akin to the fish all of the sudden realizing it was in water. Marianne has not just changed her life, she has changed the very essence of the person she is, and she's thriving. She has a new book coming out, Self-Talk: 10 Stories You Tell Yourself That Hold You Back…And How to Overcome Them. On a personal side, one of Marianne's mentors in her journey to remake herself and her life, was my father. Dan Miller. He encouraged her to write a book. She did, completing it right around the time my Dad died. She had him in mind to write the forward to her book. But in his absence, she asked me to carry on the legacy. I am incredibly honored to have written a heartfelt forward for Marianne's book. I'm honored for multiple reasons, the top one being, I feel this is a message we all desperately need. If you'll go to mariannerenner.com/selftalk, you can get the first three chapters of her book absolutely free. In the world of personal development you hear a lot of stories of people making huge changes. Rags to riches, zero to hero, and massive life turn-arounds. It makes for a great story, but is it relevant for us? In 2003 I was at a critical juncture in my life where I'd bit off more than I could chew. I abruptly quit my cycling career and business, moved my wife and three kids cross country and started a new life. It was needed. Since then, most changes have not been quite so massive. We tend to look at the circumstances to guide, if not force us to action. But now I pay attention to where my heart is. With that in mind, I bring you a story that I feel will help you consider where you are. Rich Roll. The guys is famous for his story, and today, his gigantic podcast, the Rich Roll show. Years back I sat down with Rich to dig into his story. Here are the highlights; Rich was 39 years old with degrees from Stanford and Cornell. He was a corporate lawyer, married with three kids living in a dream house he'd built. Then one evening he finds himself at home, it's 2am and he's spent hours watching TV and eating junk food and he's winded after walking up eight steps in his home. An image of his wife and daughter at her wedding in the future, and he wasn't there. He'd died from ill health. He looked in the mirror and saw a fat, out of shape, very unhealthy man, depressed, self-destructive and utterly disconnected from who he was and what he wanted to be. He said, “In that precise moment, I was overcome with the profound knowledge, not that I needed to change, but that I was WILLING to change. And I understood that any true or lasting lifestyle change would require rigor, specificity, and accountability. Vague notions of “eating better” or maybe “going to the gym more often” just weren't going to work.” And, the rest you're about to hear more about. He became an ultra endurance athlete and now is a brand, in and of himself, of healthy living and life transformation. Find him on your podcast player, just search for Rich Roll.
