My guest today is Nick Dodson, co-founder and CEO of Fuel. Fuel is a moduler execution layer that's designed to facilitate performant L2 rollups. On this episode, Nick and I discuss the history of rollup design, the scaling challenges facing the EVM, and how his years of experience writing Solidity, EVM Assembly, and participating in the EIP process contributed to Fuel's design. We dive into Fuel's underlying UTXOs model, which allows Fuel nodes to validate transactions in parallel across multiple cores simultaneously. Finally we discuss Predicates, which are stateless conditions that can be attached to Fuel transactions, allowing users to pay for gas in ERC20s, SOL, or other coins, and to sign transactions with different eliptic curves like BLS, p256, or EDDSA. It was great learning more about the exciting technology Fuel has been cooking up for the past few years. I hope you enjoy the show. Nouns DAOs are having a moment in the spotlight, with Jacob Horne —founder of Zora — as one of the more prominent evangelists. In this conversation, Jess and Jacob discuss a core question: Why are ERC721 tokens (NFTs) a more compelling form of ownership than ERC20s? They explore the connection between Nouns DAOs and hyperstructures, and a compelling take that forkability is additive to the ecosystem as a whole. Nouns DAOs enable localized nodes of functionality, thereby increasing optionality and infinite possibilities for proliferating a community meme. Communities exist, communities want to do things together, and they need a medium to do that — the Nouns model provides the tools to do exactly that.

Here is my conversation with Simon de la Rouviere.Simon's exploration of creative mechanism design through the years is documented on his blog. His contributions to the space range from seeding the idea of bonding curves and curation markets, to building one of the first creator platforms with Ujo, to writing a full length novel experimenting with different publishing models, to now working on bottom-up storytelling with Untitled Frontier. In this conversation, we talked about cc0, designing NFT economies to welcome derivative works, bottom-up storytelling, and much more.Timestamps: 1:29 - How Simon got into the craft of storytelling 6:25 - The lonely process of long-form content creation 9:53 - Kishōtenketsu 14:26 - Top-down vs. bottom-up storytelling 21:52 - “The medium is the message.” 27:17 - CC0, derivatives, Jenkins the Valet 34:43 - Harberger Taxes and mechanism design 39:51 - NFTs vs ERC20s for ownership and governance 44:06 - New power structures
About a year ago I made a video explaining the differences and similarities between ERC20, ERC721 and ERC1155 from a layperson's perspective (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt5C-j2b62U). I thought it might interesting to remake the video and release the audio as a podcast, but this time explaining the differences in the standards through the differences in the data structures within each contract that act as ledgers for the tokens. I found it interesting that ERC721 is at its core a flipped ERC20 data structure, and that ERC1155 is an ERC721 that encapsulates ERC20s. Plus there's a trick discussed which allows you to use ERC20 to mint a single NFT. So that's all great fun, isn't it?
Welcome to Episode 40. In this episode Adriana chats to Gendry Morales, a software engineer who early on saw the power of mixing code and art, using smart contracts and the Ethereum blockchain. In this episode we discuss choosing a career in tech, the evolution of smart contracts, what's an NFT and more.BioGendry is a Creative Technologist and independent freelancer for a range of projects in crypto, mainly across NFTs and also how they intersect with ERC20s and DeFi.Gendry has been hands on launching crypto products since 2017, starting with CryptoCats, 625 Vintage NFTs deployed before the ERC721 standard. In 2018 she co-founded Flight Plan, a No-Coding platform for creating Dapps, like Squarespace for Blockchain. She has worked with 100s of blockchain projects, built many of the Dapp platform components and was one of the first to speak internationally and locally on the unique aspects of Product and UX design in Crypto.Connect with GendryTwitter https://twitter.com/gendry_moralesLinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/gendrymorales/Connect with AdrianaTwitter https://twitter.com/abelottiLinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/adrianabelotti/Blockchain ProTwitter https://twitter.com/blockchainpro_
On the heels of a topic Iman and William have been talking about for at least a few months, our predictions begin to show accuracy. Rarible is the first large NFT minting platform to reward the behavior they want to encourage. They released the $RARI token and airdropped it to creators and collectors with 75,000 tokens sent out weekly by participating on the platform. We explore how this will ignite a DeFi style explosion of NFT platforms. We predict the proliferation of this tactic as this is something that would be helpful in MetaZone. Not only do we think a token platform makes sense for MetaZone, but we believe generating tokens and other cryptographic assets for the underlying game itself will help increase user adoption and overall sustainability within the ecosystem. Topics: First up, How NFT platforms will deploy ERC20s as a new industry standard Next, we identify missing pieces for a sustainable ecosystem in #Decentraland Then, How DeFi has shaped the overall cryptocurrency space. Finally, xDAI sidechain will solve the gas issue. Please like and subscribe on your favorite podcasting app! Website: www.theblockrunner.com Try using the Brave browser. Kosala Hemachandra & Brian Norton from MEW joins Base Layer for a great chat. MEW offers a nexus point for transacting in the Ethereum ecosystem, providing unprecedented access, a secure wallet, and comprehensive education that allows anyone to quickly take advantage of all the benefits of crypto has to offer since 2015. Kosala built the first version of MEW just weeks after Ethereum’s launch in 2015 to help non-coders gain access to Ethereum at a time when only command line code instructions were available, making it difficult even for seasoned developers to transact in ETH. Since then, MEW has continued a steady stream of updates to its web and mobile versions, allowing users to buy, sell, and swap ETH and ERC20s, as well as participate in DeFi and use Dapps built on the Ethereum ecosystem. In March 2020, released MEW wallet, a full-featured mobile wallet app for Samsung, Android, and iPhone with all the features of MEW online accessible by phone.

They will answer the following questions, and more: 1 - What is a Smart Contract? 2 - People have been using ERC20s based on the Ethereum blockchain, but you have been now concentrating on building on the NEO Smart contract. Why? 3 - What else does the NEO platform offer that no other platform has at the moment? For everyone new to this space, NEO is known as the 'Chinese Ethereum' and can host both public and private blockchains that can interact with each other. NEO's additional key features are:
Mel Gelderman, co-founder and CEO of TokenCard joins the podcast to talk about his team’s vision of building a self sovereign banking service on Ethereum. TokenCard currently has a smart contract wallet that allows users to securely store ETH and ERC20s. From there, users can apply for a TokenCard Visa card which allows you to spend crypto out of your wallet at any merchant that accepts Visa worldwide. They have big plans for the future in integrating DeFi directly into the service and are rebranding very soon. Get on the email list at ethhub.substack.com
