Full episodes info and Show Notes - www.wearelookingsideways.com Festive Special! Yep, as is now very much tradition in the Looking Sideways universe, for this special Christmas episode I was joined by my old pals Tim and Gendle for our fourth mince pie, Secret Santa and booze-filled yuletide jamboree. Now, if you've listened to any of these episodes before, you'll know what to expect - although this year, I'm happy to report, we managed to juggle schedule and beat the rapidly-approaching Covid restrictions to do this one in person. Tim and Gend had a Famous First Words gig about ten days before Christmas in London, so I packed the podcast kit, donned the mark and headed on up to the Smoke to record this episode. If you're new to the show or unfamiliar with the boys and their work, allow me to introduce them: two of the biggest influences and most-loved presences in British snowboarding, whether as film-makers, presenters or snowboarders. This year's show took the usual format and ran with it. So expect a Christmas quiz, Secret Santa gift exchanges, the three of us getting steadily more pissed, the boys turning the tables on me and asking me a few questions, and so on. We had a great time doing this one, so I hope you enjoy it. Merry Christmas! Thanks to Matt Ward for the theme tune, and to my editor Fina Charleson.
Steve and Remfry peer gingerly into the murky world of early 2010's indie brit pop revivalists Viva Brother (originally aired on https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/90-a-brass-rubbing-of-oasis/id1417888519?i=1000472490877 (Riot Act #90) 24th April 2020). Except they didn't revivalise indie brit pop in the slightest. Instead, they decided to release Famous First Words, one of the most creatively moribund albums featured on Broken Records so far. Released to a tirade of bad press, Viva Brother broke up mere months after the release of this, their debut album.

Welcome back to TBOTA! Today - a Special Edition: Today's TBOTA is a bit different. A crossover episode today as the boys from NFFHC crash in and have a raucous two hours of shit-talking, joke rating, and old-man reminiscing about.... Australia, hitchhiking, male Galadriels, covidiots, carrying an etch-a-sketch, coming twice, absolute codswallop, rating jokes, getting intestines confused, the value of prepping, Famous First Words memories (about 52 minutes in) and the inevitable demise of Taking The Rise. WARNING: Not for the easily offended. This is what increasingly drunker comedians arguing sounds like. Back to normal (is there such a thing?) next week. Another week, another episode of friction and tension between the boys Riot Act, as Remfry and Steve review new releases by Trivium, Elephant Tree, Elder and Katatonia, as well as throwing in a review of Fiona Apple's 'Fetch the Bolt Cutters' an album that, since its release last week has garnered such strong critical praise, it seemed remiss not to cover it in some fashion on the show. Elsewhere, there's an insight into John Dolmayan's opinion on whether we'll ever get new System of a Down material (don't get your hopes up) and our Broken Record this week is Famous First Words, the 2011 debut album from insipid indie stardom-seekers Viva Brother See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Pastor Tom Grieb concludes our series, "Famous Last Words." The resurrection of Christ brings hope and healing to a world that so desperately needs it. The resurrection of Jesus is good news indeed. Before the news of Christ's resurrection had time to take hold the disciples hid themselves away, fearing for their lives. Thomas was not among them. He had distanced himself from the rest of the disciples, if for no other reason than to deal with his grief by himself. Everyone deals with grief in their own way. Thomas has long been called “Doubting Thomas” and for good reason. He was a “I'll believe it when I see it” kind of guy. He got his chance. Jesus appeared and gave Thomas the opportunity to place his hands where the nails had been driven and where the spear had pierced his side. “My Lord and My God” was Thomas' response. Instead of doubting, Thomas now believed. In the mix of that Jesus also had a word for us who are so empirical. He says, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.” Ours is by faith and not by sight. By faith, we are awakened to all sorts of things we wouldn't otherwise experience, including the grand good news of Christ's resurrection.

Full episode info and Show Notes - www.wearelookingsideways.com Yep, it’s a full mince pie and secret Santa-themed two hour special with the great Tim Warwood and Adam Gendle, universally known as Tim and Gend. I’ve been meaning to get these two giants of the UK snowboarding scene on for months now, and my first ever festive special, recorded over mince pies and Twiglets at the start of December 2018, was the perfect opportunity. If you’re not familiar with the work of Tim and Gendle, then settle in for two hugely enjoyable hours as we take a leisurely look back over their unique careers in snowboarding and beyond. Although the boys first came to prominence as promising UK riders in the late 90s, they really made their name when they produced, directed and edited a series of era-defining UK snowboarding films. It was a peerless decade-long run that celebrated British snowboarding in all its unique glory, setting the tone and epitomising a spirit of UK snowboarding that still holds true today. Naturally, we looked back at this, and also talked about what the boys have been up to in the last few years; which has been pursing their post snowboarding careers as presenters, directors and producers; latterly focussing on their amazing quiz show concept Famous First Words. I love Tim and Gend. I’ve had some of the best times of my life with these boys, and I’ve watched on proudly as they’ve leapt from success to success. As with any good double act, you’re in safe hands with Tim and Gend, which is why I knew they’d be the perfect guests for my festive show. Grab a mulled wine, mince pie or shot of Jagermeister, and get ready for for two hours of tales from two of UK snowboardings’ finest. Big thanks as ever to Matt Ward for the theme tune.

The doctors predicted an 80% chance I would never see again, but I changed the way I was living and through sheer willpower beat the odds.During this time I couldn't read or write. Two things that I had been turning to for comfort since I was a small child. With the sheer amount of stress I was under, this was devastating. My wife took me by the arm, lead me into the local library, and read out titles of audiobooks to me. I chose the audiobook versions of books I had loved such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter and more. They brought my favorite stories to life in ways I never thought possible, and helped me through the darkest time of my life.Once my vision recovered, I maintained a love for audiobooks. I decided I would turn my focus from being a writer to becoming a narrator.
