I'm not scared Mandy Smith - I just can't wait Kim Wilde - You came Bros - Drop the boy Prince - Alphabet St. Erasure - A little respect a-ha - Touchy Aswad - Don't turn around France Gall - Ella elle l'a Pet Shop Boys - Heart Fairground Attraction - Perfect Coldcut feat. Ronnie Barnett was a rock journalist in Houston when he met Kim Shattuck, then bassist for the Los Angeles band the Pandoras, and their fates intertwined. Soon Barnett was living in L.A. and playing bass in the Muffs, Shattuck's new pop-punk band in which she played guitar and applied her impassioned vocals to her tight, tuneful songs. The band had a strong three-album run with Warner Bros., though its most famous song became its punked-up cover of Kim Wilde's “Kids in America” that played over the opening credits of 1995's Clueless yet never was released as a single. Amid more acclaimed albums, Shattuck took a brief detour as the Pixies' bassist. Sixteen days before the October 2019 release of the Muffs' final studio album, No Holiday, Shattuck died at age 56 from complications of ALS, news that shocked and devastated the many who loved her and her music. Barnett takes us through the thrills and heartbreak of his life with Shattuck and the Muffs—and offers some record-collecting notes because he's that kind of guy. (Photo by Tommi Cahill)

Season 08 Episode 10: Darth Vader and the handshake of deathAlan, Trajce, and Sara start this episode in discussion about the social etiquette of handshakes. Alan advocates for the politeness of the handshake in business negotiations, and Trajce explains his handshake aversions, and the origins of a handshake. In this reverie, Trajce reflects on his support band, warming up big names in the 1980's, like The Village People and Kim Wilde. Sara shares details bout her fun night out listening to Tyne James Organ and Jacob Fitzgerald & the Electric City live at a local venue. On the serious side, Trajce tells a sensation story about a claimant and her award from the Employment Tribunal in the UK, National Health Service. The claimant was awarded money to recover financial loss and punitive costs because of injury, especially to cover her upset feelings, resulting in her mental health disorders. Her grievances included her allegations of the management's poor grievance processes a lack of support through tailored training or engagement, and she was given little control and agency over her work. Sara interprets the concerns in context to psychosocial risk factors. “The kicker,” explains Trajce, and much to Alan's surprise, “is the concern about her colleague labelling her ‘Darth Vader' in a workplace personality typography test.”For more on Psychosocial Risk Management, check out: PRAiSE (Psychosocial Risk Assessment and Integrated Solutions for Employers) – Certified Assessor and Manager programs - and PRA, the new task-based Psychosocial Risk Analyser feature within the ErgoAnalyst software platform. These tools are helping teams visualise, quantify, qualify, and respond to both contextualised physical and psychosocial workplace risks, merging technical rigour with empathy-driven co-design.

The ending of a relationship may be painful, but it's far worse for the narrator of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "You Keep Me Hangin' On" - the ending never quite seems to come for this jilted lover. This song has resonated over the decades as evidenced by it's many versions, starting with original Supremes version and all the way up to recent times in Glee. Today we will be celebrating our favourite version: the hi-NRG Kim Wilde 1986 classic! We dive deep into the history of Wilde as well share a close analysis of the song. It can be a tough episode for those who've been burned by love, but that's what we're here for - let us be your soft place to land if you've been hanging on too long. In this patriotic edition of The Audio Files, Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot celebrate American music from every angle, mixing rock anthems, punk nostalgia, and country swagger. They kick off by belatedly marking the 4th of July with X's “Fourth of July,” Tom Petty's “American Girl,” and the tongue-in-cheek “United States of Whatever.” Along the way, they share stories of vinyl collections, musical awakenings, and unforgettable live shows. The episode features everything from Kim Wilde's “Kids in America” to Kid Rock's “American Badass” and Neil Diamond's iconic “America.” They reflect on the patriotic surge after 9/11 and play Toby Keith's “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” Lynyrd Skynyrd's comeback hit “Red White and Blue,” and Steve Miller Band's “Living in the USA.” Interwoven are lively anecdotes about guitars, recording studios, and the authenticity of New Yorkers. The hosts close with WASP's fiery performance and Hendrix's legendary Woodstock rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, capturing the spirit, pride, and contradictions of America through music.
