On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I’m chatting with Mary Mohler about gratitude and hospitality. We talk about everything from where we see hospitality modeled in the Bible to how the gospel actually enables us to be grateful and hospitable no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in. As a veteran hostess, Mary shared some helpful, practical tips for opening our homes, as well as encouragement for those of us who feel a little more burdened as opposed to grateful when it comes to hosting and serving this time of year. We really hope this conversation encourages you to welcome others in as Christ has welcomed us. I think you’ll find Mary as delightful as I did. So you’ll know her a little better, she serves in ministry as the president’s wife at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.  She is also the founder and director of Seminary Wives Institute, an academic program for student wives started 20 years ago at Southern Seminary. She has been married to Dr. R. On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with my friend Abbey Wedgeworth about shame. We ran the gamut on the topic of shame, moving from questions we can ask ourselves to determine whether or not we are functioning in shame, to how the gospel actually addresses shame. Listen to what she said: “In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus we see that God is faithful to us because of his love. Not because we’re worthy. So he loves us not because we’re lovable, but we are made lovely because he sets his love on us. He makes us beautiful. In exchange for our shame he offers acceptance, honor, worth, and even glory.” Whew! If you don’t walk away from this episode encouraged, I cannot help you. On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Jerrad Lopes, the host of the Dad Tired podcast, about loving the dads in our lives well. I wanted to do this episode in honor of Father’s Day, which is this Sunday if you aren’t tracking! I know many of us have mixed emotions about a day like Father’s Day. While some of us had incredible fathers, others of us didn’t, while still others didn’t even have an opportunity to know their father. Whatever feelings we maintain toward a holiday like this, they can all be overcome by delighting in this reality: we don’t need a perfect earthly father, because we have a perfect heavenly father who adopted us through his son, Jesus. As his daughters, we are the children of a father who is worthy of all celebration! Jerrad did a great job of encouraging us to glorify God this Father’s Day by loving and honoring the men in our lives exactly where they are, no matter how great or poor their example.   So you’ll know him a little better, Jerrad is a Christian pastor and the founder of Dad Tired,  a non-profit ministry focused on equipping men to lead their family well. He hosts the weekly Dad Tired Podcast he also authored Stop Behaving: A Gospel-Centered Devotional for Men. My guest for Happy Hour #108 is the amazing Beth Moore. Beth is a dynamic teacher and a prolific Bible–study author whose public speaking engagements take her around the world to challenge tens of thousands. A wife and mother of two adult daughters, Beth lives in Houston, where she leads Living Proof Ministries and teaches an adult Sunday school class. Her first book with Tyndale House, So Long, Insecurity, was a NYT bestseller. Her debut novel, The Undoing of Saint Silvanus, released on September 20th. It was my joy and honor to interview Beth. The Lord used her ministry in 1999 to draw me to Himself, and I was able to share that with her and thank her for being faithful to the call God had given her. She was so encouraging to me, and I hope to you too, to remind me that the call that God had on my life far exceeded my dreams and expectations. In our conversation, Beth also shares about the process of writing her first novel, keeping it a secret, and finally sharing the draft with her youngest daughter. We chat about what she's reading and how much she adores her daughters and husband. This episode is a little shorter than the typical shows, but I promise you every minute is worth it. It was a dream come true to finally chat with Beth, and I hope you are as encouraged as I was. {You can listen to the showHERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends. My guest for Happy Hour #107 is Deidra Riggs, author and speaker, and the visionary behind life-changing events for writers, artists, entrepreneurs, and other fabulous people who have an amazing dream. Through her engaging and relatable talks, practical and inspiring books, and first-class events, she works to cross cultural boundaries, build bridges with those who are different, and create more peace in the world while making it all feel like a fabulous celebration of life. When she’s not inspiring women to live life to the fullest and push past invisible boundaries, you can find her frolicking in the ocean, dancing to loud disco tunes, or hosting a group of her closest friends around the dinner table. In today's conversation, Deidra shares what it's been like for her and her husband to embrace empty nesting. She shares that somewhere along the way while raising children, they decided to start building an empty nest. I love her perspective, and Aaron and I really try to make our marriage the top priority in our family, so that when our kids leave the nest, we still know each other and love each other. Deidra shares practical tips on how they've been successful and are still madly in love after 30 years. She shares about loving her children through difficult circumstances and choices, her love for disco, her cartwheel regimen and her online book club for open discussion on all things hush hush. I absolutley loved my conversation with Deidra and I really hope you will too. {You can listen to the showHERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends.
