Chris Legg, LPC, joins Dr. Mark Turman to discuss how psychology and faith integrate, how Legg works as a therapist and pastor, a biblical understanding of mental disorders, Jesus' flawed but sinless life, and the need for a healthy community. Show notes: Chris Legg talks about his family and career, how he became a licensed counselor, owner of a counseling practice, and head pastor of South Spring Church (2:14). Dr. Turmans asks for the definition of mental illness, which brings their discussion to a biblical understanding of disorders (8:00). Legg talks about how therapy and Christianity integrate in a holistic way, and explores how everyone is broken in one way or another (15:27). They consider how God's will is not for us to be perfectly healthy in this life, and how we can pray for disorders to be healed (37:37). They talk about Jesus being perfect but not flawless as a sinless human and the need for a community to battle isolation (45:54). Legg closes by encouraging anyone struggling to seek help, that counselors, pastors, friends, family, and the Lord want to walk alongside you in dark times (56:34). Welcome to another episode of Truth Talk with Wendi. I cannot tell you how excited I am today to have our special guest. This is Chris Legg. He is not only my very good friend, he is my counselor, my sanity, the one who Jim sends me to when he's heard enough. "Have you talked to Chris about this yet?" No, I'll put that on the list. It's been an interesting journey. But you have many many hats. These are the hats you play to me although you have played more hats than that. But I think it's very interesting because he is also the pastor at South Spring Baptist Church. which is a great church here and it used to be First Baptist South, which is when I first met you, and you and I talked, when I got into ministry through No Hungry Children, and very supportive, very onboard. You have had the same heart and I think God used that to bring us together. But what was amazing for me was just in getting to know you. And the fact that you were a Baptist preacher, this is really not a Baptist preacher. Multiple times I said, you need to stop telling people that because even though it's the same denomination, you are a very, very different Baptist, and God has really used you to heal a big wound for me. I have been seeing you for many, many years as a counselor and you've been instrumental in the ministry that I've done. Chris Legg: I think it's fascinating, by the way, I was thinking on the way here, I'd love to hear Ben Shapiro Co-host his therapist on his podcast, like, I want to get his counselor on their podcast. Wendi: We're talking about triggers. And there may be some triggers that they might hear in our conversation today. And that's kind of what triggered this episode is what was recently in the news. There's been a lot of information that has come out in regards to John MacArthur and his alleged cover up of sexual abuse within his church. So the first the first story or article that I read, it was not triggering to me and I don't know why it did not trigger me the same, but the second one, that's why I came and talk to you about it because I thought my head was gonna pop off and I felt so horrible that I reacted that way and was so down on myself because I thought I needed to be further along than this.

Today we are going to look back for some of the great thoughts of the entire podcast with Julie Connor, podcast producer, who shares her favorite moments for the last months with the guests: Alan Fadling, Michelle Pokorny, Frank Friedmann, Jonathan Pitts, and Chris Legg. Listen to this special 26th episode and have a grateful journey remembering these conversations about rest, refreshment, and Sabbath, and the Grace-Paced life and leadership. Also, faithfulness in difficult times, the righteousness identity, and the abundance of Grace and the afterlife. Enjoy this special episode full of wisdom and advice!
Join Kevin as he sits down with pastor Chris Legg and Tony Beck, an atheist. Both Chris and Tony have exchanged questions for each other concerning their own beliefs, or lack of, and they talk through them in today's episode. Topics such as morals, suffering, and more are discussed in hopes of being an example of how we can kindly and compassionately engage others who differ from us in conversations about faith. This conversation will be continued next week as Kevin, Chris, and Tony finish their discussion! If you have any questions, reach out to Kevin at kevin@thementoringalliance.com.
In this second part of the discussion with Pastor Chris Legg, Kevin and Chris take a deep look at what the Bible really says about heaven. Where exactly will we be spending eternity with God? What do we learn about God when we understand what heaven is really like? You won't want to miss this amazing journey through Scripture!
On June 15, 2020, Kevin was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. As he began his journey with cancer, many questions began to surface. Is there really an afterlife? What is this afterlife like? Suddenly, theoretical things became much more real. “I realized I was living under an illusion of invincibility.“ Kevin has asked his friend, Chris Legg, pastor and certified counselor, to discuss what the Bible truly says about life after death. What is true and what can we believe? Join Kevin and Chris for a thoughtful and inspiring conversation around the question, “What’s Up with the Afterlife?“

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I’m chatting with Jackie Hill Perry about same-sex attraction, identity, and the Christian life. We talked about everything from how we can engage people in a homosexual lifestyle with the gospel to how our identity as believers is literally transformed by the gospel. I think my favorite part of this conversation may have been when Jackie and I got real about what it’s like to study the Word and grow in our theology as mamas to little, tiny people. Overall, our conversation is just rich with gospel-centered encouragement. I’m telling you guys, Jackie brought the heat! So you’ll know her a little better, Jackie Hill Perry is a writer, poet, and artist whose work has been featured in places like the Washington Times, The 700 Club, Desiring God, The Gospel Coalition, and many others. Since becoming a Christian in 2008, she has been compelled to use her speaking and teaching gifts to share the light of the gospel of God as authentically as she can. It totally shines through in this conversation. At home, she is a wife to Preston and Mommy to Eden and Autumn. On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast, Chris Legg, a pastor and professional counselor, lays out a foundation for understanding human sexuality. We discuss everything from metaphysics (don’t worry I didn’t know what that meant either) to helping our children understand their sexuality from a Biblical perspective. As mentioned, Chris is a professional counselor and the lead pastor of South Spring Baptist Church in Tyler, TX. Fundamentally, Chris is a minister and shepherd of people, of which I am one and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to discuss such an important topic with someone as thoughtful, experienced, and wise as Chris Legg. There’s no denying that human sexuality is a sensitive topic. Chris says, “The problem we’re dealing with is an identity question. Let’s get back to the question of, ‘How do you know who you are? How do you know what makes life good? How do you know what makes life valuable? How do you know that you aren’t trash? How do you know that you aren’t meaningless and that your life matters?’ We intuitively know that there is more to life than being sophisticated, eating and pooping machines. In a godless existence that’s all man is… and none of what we do will matter. Something tells us at a deep level that’s really not true.” On a personal level, I found my conversation with Chris incredibly helpful, yet challenging. It’s difficult to openly discuss something as closely tethered to our identity as our sexuality. This conversation was between two followers of Jesus - me seeking to understand how to navigate such a difficult topic in our society, and Chris teaching me as a pastor, mentor, and friend. My hope is - whether you agree or disagree with the Biblical foundation Chris establishes - that you will find his insight on engaging in grace-filled, educated dialogue very helpful. I hope we can all put into practice his encouragement to seek common ground and to avoid being unnecessarily offensive. Helen Mark explores the clay mining history of Dorset's picturesque Isle of Purbeck. Purbeck may look like an unspoilt rural holiday destination, but in reality it is an area steeped in industrial heritage - dictated by the clay mining industry which began as far back as Roman times and took flight when Sir Walter Raleigh bought tobacco to England and created a demand for clay pipes. The landscape is sculpted by traces of this industry and tales from the days of picking clay out by candle light are still shared by mining communities to this day but in the 21st century it's diggers and trucks that do the hard labour that ensures Purbeck's clay goes worldwide. Featuring interviews with author Chris Legg, Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum Chairman Peter Sills, Learning & Interpretation Officer at Purbeck Corfe Castle Pam White, former Mines Manager Norman Vye, retired Mines Forman Mickey White and Chris Cleaves, Safety Director UK Ceramics & UK Ball Clays GM.
