NOTE: this audio was originally recorded in 2020 for our Goddess Magic community. “It was excruciatingly easy to lose touch with the inner life of the soul. There was such a profusion of demand and complexity, so many to-do lists, the unceasing compulsion to accomplish something. When I read that the Chinese pictograph for busyness is ‘heart-killing,' I felt the truth of that in my bones. In the midst of this struggle to care for my soul, I read Wordsworth's poem, ‘The Prelude,' in which he writes about ‘spots of time' that nourish and repair the soul. I believe he was referring to brief, concentrated moments—little epiphanies—that inflame us with a sense of the holy. I began to search for spots of time here and there in my day. I found them by stopping. Just stopping....I began to ‘come away' to a nook somewhere in the house or the yard where I would spend five minutes or less sitting still and receding into the quiet core of myself...caring for my soul turned out to be simply that—spots of time in which to be.” —Sue Monk Kidd, Firstlight This brief audio is about simple magic. I hope you find it interesting and supportive! (Note: I accidentally say "summer equinox" at one point instead of "summer solstice.") I also wanted to share this quote from Yoga for Witches, which I reviewed here.   “In yoga class, I often remind my students that we can be peaceful and powerful, calm yet strong—all in the same breath. I think there is a peace to be found in the acceptance of all of these contradictory powers within us. Finding a way to stand within this unknown and unknowable. We are gloriously complex and contradictory in a world that loves boxes, snap judgments and 100% certainty. People may find this inability to define you uncomfortable, but this is a reminder that you do not owe anyone an explanation. Your rich inner world needn't mean anything to anyone but yourself. A person can be called a witch for merely knowing, and for owning her knowledge. And to some, for strange reasons that may include fear, power, jealousy, a woman who ‘knows' is dangerous indeed...Communicating *I am knowledgeable, powerful, and I can make choices about how I use these strengths...can be a real challenge to the status quo!”   —Sarah Robinson, Yoga for Witches (p. 93) May you feel centeredin your place of power.May you know youhave this wholenessto draw upon when needed.May you remember that sometimesthe taste of teais truly what you need.Much love, Molly

Are you ready to reclaim your power and step into your true divine feminine sovereignty? Rima Bonario joins us to share the seven queendoms, and how you can embody this sacred energy and use it to create a life that is in alignment with who you really are. Explore the powerful energy of the divine feminine, and how to tap into it to awaken your inner goddess and embody your truest, most authentic self. Through connecting with various goddess archetypes, you will gain a deeper understanding of your own unique strengths, talents, and abilities.Unlock the power of the goddess within on Exploring the Mystical Side of Life. In episode 189, we dive into the four archetypal energies that people can fall into and the impacts they can have on us. We discuss the need for balance between masculine and feminine energies, especially in relation to the Age of Aquarius. Our guest explains how childhood conditioning can make it difficult to truly know oneself and the importance of harnessing both energies to operate effectively in the world. We also explore the power of ceremony and ritual, especially when combined with essential oils, in making deep, permanent shifts. Our guest shares her journey toward reclaiming their feminine divine and how this culminated in her work with the seven queendoms. Suffering from COVID-19, our guest developed a healing protocol using essential oils and psycho-spiritual practices, which proved successful. We hear about a fifth-generation alchemist and discuss the benefits of using essential oils to clear, align, and balance our chakra system. Finally, our guest focuses on the grounded queen, her corresponding shadow expressions, and the importance of having physical sovereignty to avoid being stuck or scattered. Rima Bonario's perspective on spirituality was transformed after reading Dance of the Dissident Daughter by Sue Monk Kidd twenty years ago, which led her on a journey to uncover a different way of looking at spirituality. Growing up Italian Catholic, this was a new territory for her, so she read The Da Vinci Code to further her research. After taking her first sacred travel journey to Egypt, Rima began to hear the voice of the Goddess and felt a deep connection to her. This led her down a path of following clues and cues that eventually helped her make the shift into her more feminine nature. Olivier nominee Rachel John is In The Frame for an extra special episode! Rachel is currently starring as August in the UK premiere of The Secret Life of Bees at the Almedia Theatre. Adapted from Sue Monk Kidd's novel, the musical has a book by Lynn Nottage, music by Duncan Sheik and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead. Taking us back to the civil rights era of the American South, The Secret Life Of Bees follows an unlikely pair who flee their small town and seek salvation at a remote honey bee farm run by the remarkable Boatwright sisters. Rachel made her professional debut in The Legend of the Lion King at Disnleyland Paris and went on to join the West End productions of The Lion King and Sister Act. After understudying Meat and Killer Queen on the first UK & Ireland tour of We Will Rock You, Rachel transferred to the West End production as Meat, becoming the first black actor to play the role. Rachel went on to play Mimi in Rent (UK Tour) and after a run as the alternate Felicia in the original West End cast of Memphis, she took over the role from Beverley Knight. Next up, Rachel played Nicki and covered Rachel in The Bodyguard (UK & Ireland Tour / West End / Toronto). In 2017, Rachel was cast as the original Angelica Schuyler in the West End premiere of Hamilton, receiving an Olivier nomination and tremendous acclaim for her performance. Most recently, Rachel played Mrs Neilsen in Girl From The North Country (West End / Toronto), The Ghost of Christmas Present in A Christmas Carol (Old Vic) and Songs for a New World (London Palladium). Last year Rachel released her debut solo album, From My Lips To Gods Ear. In this episode, Rachel delves into The Secret Life of Bee, reflects on why We Will Rock You was a massive turning point in her career and explains her unique path into theatre via the corperate world. Make a cup of tea, grab a biscuit and strap yourself in! The Secret Life of Bees runs at the Almedia Theatre until 27th May 2023. Visit www.almeida.co.uk for info and tickets. This week we chat with Kelsey Madges, an Ohio middle school librarian and book lover. We talk about the highs and the lows of working in school libraries. If you're like us, it's been almost 40 years since you were a middle schooler and lots has changed for kids and the librarians who help them, such as the use of Chromebooks in classes and the current prevalence of book bans. But Kelsey is a book lover and supporter through and through. In fact she admits that she enjoys almost everything she reads. In this episode, we also cover how we feel about book quotes, why letter writing is still important, and what Carrie should have tattooed on her body. Ready set wait. A runner hears the gun and does not lift her head to her ascent. She remains in a four point sprint start waiting position. Her head bowed. Her feet firm ready to bounce. She's in a race but does not move. It's so counterintuitive we can hardly imagine the scene. A runner that doesn't run? What is she waiting for? Unless she is running a different race. From a biblical perspective, waiting can be described as that space between our wounds and our healing, says Sue Monk Kidd in When the Heart Waits, our questions and our answers, our departure and our arrival, she continues. It's the space between what is and what we hope to be. She visited a church once and the pastor called people with heartaches and problems to come forward. “God will take care of them right now”, he said. No waiting necessary. And we wonder why so few dive into to the deepest caverns of themselves to see what's there and what is not there. The space between our real time experiences and our desired outcomes is the place God works best. Elijah was held in a waiting stance for over three years. He was a far cry from a mountain top victory, but that did not preclude God from doing his best work in and through Elijah. With little comes much. It's all in the stance.

HR to HX: From Human Resources to the Human Experience

Fear is what keeps us from our greatness. So, what is the power of saying out loud to others what we want to achieve? In this episode I'll talk about the author, Sue Monk Kidd, and how she decided to approach her goal of being an author out loud, with intention to her husband before she went out and became just that. In this series on intention I want you to think about one thing you want to do with your life. What do you want to bring into your universe? Get ready to say it out loud. Thank you for listening. [...] I mean, it's the greatest transformation of my life. You know, I went from being extremely supported on a business perspective to having to go buy stamps. And it takes me all day to mail a letter. You know, I'm really, I'm only able to do what I can do in a day and I love it. I really love it because as I often said, like, I can do bad all by myself. I don't need somebody else confirming a reservation and rubbing somebody the wrong way so that when I get there, the energy is weird. It's like now off I get somewhere and the energy's weird it's cuz of me.” So says Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, a dear friend and mentor, who in her prior life, was the global head of literature, lectures, and events at WME, the agency. During her long and storied career she shepherded many of culture's biggest luminaries, including Oprah, Brené Brown, and Sue Monk Kidd. And yes, Jennifer is an amazing dealmaker, who can look for synergies across industries so that everyone wins, but I believe her particular genius point is finding the story—I have watched her work with people where their story, which they perceived as messy, random, unimportant, comes together in her eyes as a cogent, powerful narrative. It is incredible to witness, and truly transforms that person's perspective on their entire life. She is one of my friends and mentors—on any given day, she might be my mother, my sister, or as she would joke, my daughter—and I have learned so much from watching her navigate the world with fierceness and power. In today's conversation, she talks about her transition into a sacred pause as she contemplates how she wants to serve in this next phase of her career—and we explore story as both a tool for personal healing and an opportunity for societal change. This month we read and review The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd! Like all of our reviews, the first part is spoiler free. Here's a little about The Secret Life of Bees:Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily's fierce-hearted black "stand-in mother," Rosaleen, insults three of the deepest racists in town, Lily decides to spring them both free. They escape to Tiburon, South Carolina--a town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily is introduced to their mesmerizing world of bees and honey, and the Black Madonna. This is a remarkable novel about divine female power, a story women will share and pass on to their daughters for years to come. Emily & Meg explore their internalized beliefs around the religion of their youth, how they connect to their spirituality now, and wonder how life would be different if we had balancing female imagery for God. “Santa Claus, God, and The President” “I was raised with my religion telling me how to think about God. It didn't work for me.” “What if young Mary held a baby girl?” “There really are no rules. Religion tells us how to relate to God, but it's really a personal relationship.” “We ignore our natural intelligence and allow it to be controlled and corrupted.” “You have to see it to be it.” “We just accept things instead of examining these hand-me-down beliefs.” “How does our natural intelligence relate to finding our spirituality?” “If we were to surrender, it would open up the pathway to a higher power.” “Are psychedelics being pushed as the next ritual for us to connect spiritually?” “We are talking about Spirituality, which is subjective, versus organized religion, which is a prescribed way to make you feel spiritual.” References from the episode: Girl God Books Indiana Jones The Holy Bible by Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin Notre Dame Damien Hirst Genesis 3:16 Liquid Geography Wine For further exploration, we loved this book: The Dance of the Dissident Daughter - A Woman's Journey from Christian Tradition to the Sacred Feminine by Sue Monk Kidd

Sue Monk Kidd is one of the world's most beloved writers, occupying a rare intersection of critical and commercial success writers dream of.    Perhaps most recognized for her #1 New York Times Bestsellers, The Secret Life of Bees, which went on to become the basis for a blockbuster movie, and The Invention of Wings, her earlier works, When the Heart Waits, an autobiographical account of a spiritual awakening, and Dance of the Dissident Daughter, a memoir that explores feminist theology, were groundbreaking for millions of seekers too.   And yet, she's still willing to acknowledge how hard it is to start a new project. Sue says that every time she sits down to start a new project, she feels like a beginner. Fortunately, she listens to her soul and her craft, and together, they get here there.   Jen and Sue also discuss:   How Sue consistently taps into what women are feeling and experiencing Recurring themes throughout her body of work How writing memoir helped her find courage and freed her to write fiction How she pivoted in her spiritual life but maintained her creative beacons Writing as an act of courage that serves your soul Why Sue believes our salvation is in our imagination The importance of writing what you deeply care about  Creativity as playing with what you love  The two questions to ask yourself when starting a novel Using imagery and collages as part of the writing process  Why Sue still feels like a beginner  How she dealt with the staggering success of The Secret Life of Bees How perfectionism stymies writing Method and mystery, beginning the writing process, and writing rituals Doing research for historical fiction What Sue would say to her younger self Reflecting on her spiritual path The importance of the simplicity of being Creating as a spiritual act, writing as prayer Transitioning between projects The tension and energy that goes into writing a book Get a copy of Sue's books here:   The Secret Life of Bees Amazon Bookshop   The Invention of Wings Amazon Bookshop   When the Heart Waits Amazon Bookshop   Visit jenniferlouden.com/podcastkit to get instant access to a collection of audios that will help you with some of the most common struggles we creatives have to manage including fear of choosing, falling into compare and despair, managing the inner critic (s), and feeling too exposed and vulnerable when you put yourself or your work into the world.
