A recent study found that 50% of US adults read the Bible less than twice a year. In my conversation today with Raechel Myers we talk about this spiritual famine many Christians are facing, especially after the last few years. As the CEO/Founder of She Reads Truth, He Reads Truth, and Kids Read Truth, Raechel is passionate about helping people personally connect with the living Word of God. Raechel's passion for the Bible is evident but you will also appreciate her honesty in discussing the struggles and the pressures people sometimes face when it comes to diving into Scripture. I hope you get to the end of this episode feeling encouraged about your next step. We also talk about how there's a lot of scripture-adjacent things that feel like you've spent time with God, but you've really just heard someone else's experience of spending time with God. On this episode of the She Reads Truth podcast, founders Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams try to stump She Reads Truth content director, John Greco, with all their Christmas questions. When exactly was Jesus born? Was the “inn” really an inn? Were animals present? What about the wise men? How could Joseph and Mary afford to flee to Egypt? Why do we still have so many questions about a story we’ve known since we were kids? Armed with neon ski caps and cups of coffee, the trio ventures down these and other rabbit trails related to the Christmas story, asking, “What does Scripture actually say?” They find some answers and oddities along the way, and find, once again, that God’s Word only grows richer under the microscope of our honest questions. In a time when biblical truth is often narrowed down to a greeting card slogan or a small subset of feel-good encouragements, the She Reads Truth community takes a different approach. The bible studies and reading plans from She Reads Truth take a deep dive into scripture with the goal to understand the big picture of who God is throughout history and our need for his grace. SRT co-founder and CEO Raechel Myers shares the community’s origin and her personal story of encountering God’s goodness amidst the loss of her daughter. Jump in to hear Raechel share her heart for studying scripture and relying on the Holy Spirit in the difficult places of parenting. I can base my understanding of God on the 36 years that I’ve experienced with him, but that is a mistake. God’s story is so far back before I ever existed. And so one of the important reasons that we read the Bible is to understand the broader story of who God is and how I fit into his story, not how he fits into mine. What we chat about: Raechel’s writing background and the purpose behind her first blog How God trained and equipped Raechel through various experiences before She Reads Truth began The origin of the She Reads Truth community Taking God’s word for what it is and not relying too heavily on devotionals or feel-good scriptures alone She Reads Truth has options for everything from free reading plans to beautiful, bound books A new children’s story book they’ve produced called This Is the Gospel Addressing faith and trusting that God is who he says he is with your older kids Why scripture plays such a key role in our understanding of who God is beyond our own experience with him The importance of modeling Christian life for our children’s spiritual formation

In this week’s episode we had the amazing privilege of facilitating a round table discussion with three incredible ladies in three different seasons of life. We talked with Debbie Riley (Erin’s mamma), Ashley Hartgrove, and Abigail Slape about how Biblical literacy, Theology, and The Gospel is important in each of their individual life stages. This was such a sweet conversation full of so much wisdom and encouragement. They also provide some practical resources for growing in these areas as a woman of God. Resources: The King in His Beauty by Thomas R. Schreiner Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth, by Richard J. Foster Open Your Bible by Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams Quotes: “Am I doing this to GET an identity… OR am I doing this OUT OF my identity in Christ.” - Ashley “The Gospel is the most beautiful and the best story that proves heart transformation and that never fails and is constant throughout every season of life” - Abigail “Theology is really important today because our culture is basically trying to change God’s word and it’s unchangeable, it doesn’t change, it’s the truth.” - Debbie “I would say my generation needs the Gospel because we need something constant and never changing in our ever changing world.” - Abigail *The beautiful music heard on today’s episode is by Katie Cobbs*

Raechel Myers is my guest for The Happy Hour #158. Raechel is the co-founder and CEO of She Reads Truth, and leads the She Reads Truth community and staff out of her deep love of God’s Word and the firm conviction that all of Scripture is good news. She is the co-author of Open Your Bible: God’s Word Is for You and for Now and She Reads Truth: Holding Tight to Permanent in a Word That’s Passing Away. Raechel lives south of Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and their two children. In our conversation today, Raechel and I chat about how she's leading a Bible study for the first time with the ladies in her neighborhood. We also talk all about She Reads Truth - about how quickly it's grown and how one of their employees is now Raechel's husband, making her his boss (which would never work in the Ivey household, but Raechel makes it sound like a dream). And finally, we talk about God's faithfulness through good times and hard times and how to be a friend to someone walking through the trenches.  In the show, Raechel and I talk briefly about the She Reads Truth Bible. Y'all, I can't recommend this Bible enough. It's so beautifully put together. Because of it's crazy popularity, the Bible sold out very quickly, but the reprint has recently been released and you can grab your copy here. I promise, you will LOVE it.  {You can listen to the showHERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends.
