--Story-- (A HUGE thanks to Alyssa Surgent for writing the story for this video! Check her out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kuramalover86) You woke up to the sound of birds chirping and the lake behind your cabin. The sun was just beginning to rise, indicating it was early. You look to the clock to see it was only about 7:30 in the morning. Pushing yourself out of bed, you went to the kitchen and made some breakfast for you and the guys. After defeating the Flag Smashers, you, Sam and Bucky agreed on a mini vacation for a little R&R. Sam recommended a trip to northern Louisiana, to one of the few places in the state where one could see the fall foliage changing. You three went to Lake Clairborne State Park and rented a cabin to stay in for the weekend in October, when the foliage would be in the midst of changing. After waking the guys for breakfast and eating, you all headed out for a nature walk to admire the foliage. Sam was walking on your left and Bucky on your right as you followed a nature trail that outlines the lake. As you walked along, Sam began to talk about the latest threat that Torres called him about the other day. “Sam, we are on vacation. Can't we not talk about work for a couple days?” “It's important. Besides, I have a feeling they might be a part of the ‘Big Three'.” Bucky looked at him oddly. “What ‘Big Three'?” Sam reiterated what he stated earlier. “The ‘Big Three'.” Bucky was still visibly confused. “What Big Three?” “Androids, aliens and wizards.” That certainly was not an expected answer because Bucky was not buying it. “That's not a thing.” “That's definitely a thing.” “No, it's not.” “Every time we fight, we fight one of the three.” “So who are you fighting now, Gandalf?” You and Sam looked surprised at that reference and Sam asked, “How do you know about Gandalf?” “I read The Hobbit, in 1937, when it first came out.” “Wow, learn something new everyday.” Your snarky remark caught a look from Bucky before he engaged the argument with Sam. “So you see my point.” “No, I don't; there are no Wizards.” “Dr. Strange-“ “-is a Sorcerer.” Sam chuckled and interrupted again. “A sorcerer is a wizard without a hat. Think about it, right? I'm right. I just, I just came up with that.” Looking with frustration, Bucky looked to you. “Can you please do something about him?” “Boys, behave or I will ground you both. Come on now, no more work talk. This is vacation; talking about work is taboo on vacation. Let's just relax for now, and worry about it later, ok?” You look to Sam who nods, “Fine.” Then you look to Bucky and he sighs before saying, “Fine by me.” Having put it to rest, you three were content to walk down the path, the light crunch of leaves beneath your feet and birds singing nearby. The sunlight was blocked out by the trees but shone down in streams, to light up the path you three were on. With the beauty of nature and your two teammates by your side, this was certainly a vacation you'd have to repeat. --Info-- I own no rights to any sounds used in this video! We discuss what we thought of the story and politics within the Disney+ Marvel series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. What were the Flag Smashers all about? What was up with John Walker, the newly appointed Captain America? Was the Global Repatriation Council (GRC) right in their approach to take care of people who were never Snapped, or were they wrong? We ponder this stuff and more in a new, nerdier episode. What's the difference between a Falcon and an Eagle? How do you define a villain? Do Sayer and Kaylee ALWAYS finish their recording sessions with ice cream? Lets wrap this show up and get some answers!
Paul, Arlo, and returning guest Michael Holland aren’t in Westview anymore. For its second TV series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe returns to more conventional superheroics. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the Captain America sequel we’ve been waiting for, filled with stellar action sequences, resonant character work, and a twisty-turny plot. The gang debates how well that last element works, but one thing they can all agree on: director Kari Skogland and head writer Malcolm Spellman do their cast justice, bringing depths to Sam and Bucky we haven’t gotten to see on the big screen. Other topics of discussion include just how relatable the Flag Smashers are, Madripoor’s splashy MCU debut, Sharon Carter’s heel turn, and how Wyatt Russell makes an insufferable character sufferable. NEXT: he’s not exactly a falcon, but he is a weird little bird-boy. For the first Four-Color Flashback discussing manga, Paul and Arlo take a look at Inio Asano’s Goodnight Punpun: Vol. 1. You can be both critical of a thing and enjoy it. You can find faults and still find the good. Disney's first (and only?) season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier comes to a close with episode six and Disney was quite alright preaching to the viewers, even if they were part of the choir. When that social commentary makes sense "in-universe" the show does double-duty in entertaining and setting examples. Where the plot support is weak or lacking outright, the flaws glare and Disney doubles down. One World, One People may sound like a hokey 80s Earth Day slogan...and...well... The Flag Smashers get their comeuppance and Zemo's plans come to fruition from prison. Isaiah Bradley finally has a spot in the Smithsonian and Bucky graduates from therapy. Sharon Carter manages to both bring honor and dishonor to her last name, but the host isn't convinced she really is Aunt Peggy's niece. The GRC gets scolded on TV, we're rid of Karli, and Batroc gets beat by a bullet after having battled two different Captain America's with his bare hands. Adieu, Georges. On this episode of the Fandom Hybrid Podcast, the crew does a thorough recap and review of the finale (?) episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As Karli and the Flag Smashers move forward with their attack on the GRC, Sam finally picks up the mantle passed down to him from Steve Rogers and goes to deal with the problem as the new Captain America. At Sam's request, Sharon has joined him and Bucky to try to bring the Flag Smasher problem to a peaceful resolution. However, John Walker's plans for revenge (and a not-so-unexpected reveal of the Power Broker) causes some complications. However, Sam's impact as the new Captain America starts to bear some fruit as the series comes to an end. Will we see Sam and Bucky again? The final title card for the series seems to suggest so, as well as an announcement that a new Captain America movie (focusing on Sam's Cap) is currently in development. Although the series is over (for now), there will be one more opportunity to discuss the series as a whole. Next month, Hanako will be joining a roundtable discussion of the series that will be hosted by the Marvelous Madames Podcast. The show will also feature Darrell of the Taylor Network of Podcasts, and Charles from the Sci-Fi Party Line Podcast. The second episode of the Sam and Bucky road show has arrived! March 26th, 2021 brought us The Star-spangled Man on Disney Plus where John Walker made his debut as a Captain America, but we see quickly that the title is less important than the man wearing the suit. We find out that Karli Morgenthau has run afoul of "the Power Broker" and Helmut Zemo has been in the pokey since Civil War. Sharon Carter might be making her appearance soon, simply because she got a name drop...well, so did Bruce Banner and Tony Stark but I don't think they're showing up in this show. The US has a lot of work to do in race relations, but we just don't think Disney should be handling the social commentary. Isaiah Bradley did not deserve what happened to him and there isn't much people can do to make it up to him now. Bucky lets himself get taken to jail, because let's face it, those handcuffs don't stand a chance against his super strength or vibranium arm. The super serum is on a plane with the Flag Smashers destined for a devastating plan and The Falcon joins The Winter Soldier and Dr. Raynor for the weirdest marriage therapy we've seen on Disney Plus...and we just got done with WandaVision! We will quickly recap episodes and discuss what we think is happening in the show and how it will fit into the Marvel Studios Multiverse. Happy Monday, folks! This week's "A" episode starts off with Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2 discussion, including Isiah Bradley, the Flag Smashers, John Walker, and Zemo! As I mentioned in the last episode, I owe it to myself/the universe to watch Black Lightning, especially since I'm watching Superman and Lois. I'm almost done with season 1, so I give some background on the comic versions of the characters and discuss the show as a whole so far. And so far, it's just as good as Superman and Lois, at least! After reacting to the Suicide Squad trailer from James Gunn last Friday, today I go through each team member for a quick who's-who of cast and characters, then this week's comic book Pull List is joined by Spotlights on Representation of characters of color, LQBTQ+ themes, and women in comics, before heading back into news! Some MCU concept art leaked last week, so I felt it was worth mentioning, as well as the recent MODOK show casting news and today's Obi-Wan Kenobi cast announcement! Finally, Comic Con San Diego is making some questionable decisions for fall 2021, but at least the DCEU and MCU lineups for 2022 look unbelievable! No, really. I do expect a few films to get pushed into 2023. Still, it does remain an amazing time to be a nerd. I'll be back this Friday, April 2nd, to discuss the best and most noteworthy moments of this week's comic books, as well as whatever industry news might break between now and then! In the meantime, be good to your fellow man, and stay sweaty!
There's a new Captain America! He just isn't the one we wanted. We meet John Walker in the second episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. We also see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes team up for the first time in this series. They're off to Munich in pursuit of the Flag Smashers, who may not be quite what they seem. What Sam and Bucky learn leads to the revelation of a huge secret that stretches across the history of the MCU and is sure to have a major impact on this series. All of that, an archvillain name-drop, and more are broken down in this spoiler review!
