Over the course of his 40-year career, Larry Charles has had two central creative relationships with Larry David (‘Seinfeld' and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm') and Sacha Baron Cohen (‘Borat' and ‘Brüno'). Now, he reveals in a new memoir that he hasn't spoken to either man in years. In his return to The Last Laugh podcast, Charles breaks down how it all fell apart with two comedians he still considers complicated geniuses. He shares stories about how ‘Seinfeld' solved its early Elaine problem after Julia Louis-Dreyfus came to the creators sobbing and reveals why a young David Sedaris turned down an offer to write for ‘Seinfeld.' Charles also discloses what exactly it was about his HBO documentary that Larry David couldn't stand, shares his thoughts about friends Bill Maher and Cheryl Hines flirting with MAGA, explains why there was a time he would have literally “died” for Sacha Baron Cohen and what went so wrong with their final collaboration ‘The Dictator.' What happens when we stop whispering about miscarriage and start telling our stories out loud? How can we begin to shed the shame and silence that so often surround women's health experiences? And why is open dialogue so essential in shifting the cultural narrative around infertility, menopause, and mental health? In this powerful and deeply personal conversation, Dr. Lora Shahine is joined by psychologist and author Jessica Zucker, founder of the #IHadAMiscarriage movement. Drawing from her own experience of miscarriage and her professional expertise, Jessica shares how storytelling and vulnerability have the power to change the way we view and talk about women's health. Jessica's book Normalize It further explores these themes, encouraging women to own their experiences and find connection through honesty and shared truth. Together, Dr. Shahine and Jessica dive into the many ways women are pressured to stay silent about their bodies and emotions—from miscarriage and infertility to menopause and mental health. Avengers assemble! In this episode, Shelby and Laura review Marvel's newest superhero movie--Thunderbolts* starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The 36th MCU film's marketing campaign promoted IMAX and A24 more than the actual movie, so we were curious to see how it all came together. We analyze the movie's surprising villain--Bob aka Sentry, mental health themes, and backstory plot holes. We dissect the film's lack of diverse casting and Ava Starr's minimal storylines, explain why there was too much homework needed to understand the film, highlight our favorite moments, like David Harbour's comedic timing as Alexei Shostakov, question why Bucky Barnes is a US Congressman, predict who will be in Sam Wilson's Avengers, and debate whether Valentina deserved to have a happy ending. Dylan, once again lost without Ryan to guide him, finds his way into a review of Thunderbolts*, the latest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Are you tired of superheroes who always do the right thing? Exhausted by teams that save the day and, dare we say it, have a plan? This month, The Film Board dives into Marvel's Thunderbolts—the super squad you get when you order the Avengers from the bargain bin. Pete Wright is joined by Mandy Kaplan, Justin Jaeger, Tommy Metz III, and Steve Sarmento for a roundtable that spoils everything, celebrates Florence Pugh's star turn, and debates whether more MCU movies should end with a hug instead of a fistfight. We dig into the surprising emotional depth, the ensemble's knack for both grounded action and found-family pathos, and a Taskmaster controversy that set the chat ablaze. The conversation covers what works for Marvel die-hards and superhero newbies alike, why Florence Pugh and Lewis Pullman might be the new MVPs of the MCU, and how Jake Schreier's direction finds the sweet spot between earnest and absurd. Along the way, you'll hear our takes on trauma, group dynamics, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus's master class in playing Marvel's most maladaptive Nick Fury. This is a rare comic book movie that's as interested in grief and group therapy as it is in punching things.Film SundriesWatch this on Apple or find other places at JustWatchTheatrical trailerLetterboxd Learn how to support our show and The Next Reel's family of film podcasts by becoming a member. Now that Thunderbolts are revealed as the New Avengers, we break down what this rebrand means for the MCU and explore every major Marvel post-credit scene that went nowhere. From Doctor Strange (Mordo vs. Pangborn) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (Scorpion) to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Wong, Bruce Banner & Captain Marvel hologram), Eternals (Eros, Pip the Troll, Blade), Moon Knight (Jake Lockley), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Clea & Pizza Poppa), Thor: Love and Thunder (Hercules & Valhalla), She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Scar & Abomination), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (T'Challa's son), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (Council of Kangs), and The Marvels (Beast & Monica Rambeau), Greg Alba and Coy Jandreau examine which setups Marvel abandoned and which might still pay off. We talk the Thunderbolts cast (Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Val), and discuss the New Avengers lineup. Plus: what's next for Sharon Carter/Power Broker, Xialing and the Ten Rings, Starfox (Harry Styles), Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), Blade (Mahershala Ali), Hulk, Wong, Madison, Jennifer Walters, Bruce Banner, Emil Blonsky, Clea (Charlize Theron), Victor Timely, the Leader (Samuel Sterns), Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), and more. We dive into Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, Daredevil: Born Again, and debate whether Marvel should adopt DC's Elseworlds model. Featuring breakdowns of Fantastic Four, the fate of Kang, Midnight Sons, and a passionate rant about Doctor Doom's rushed arc. This is your ultimate MCU debrief. We present our Thunderbolts review!Thunderbolts* is a 2025 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the team Thunderbolts. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Jake Schreier from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, and stars an ensemble cast featuring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In the film, a group of antiheroes are caught in a deadly trap and forced to work together on a dangerous mission.Marvel Studios first teased the formation of a Thunderbolts team within the MCU in 2021. The film was revealed to be in development in June 2022, when Schreier and Pearson were attached. The main cast was revealed in September, with additional casting through early 2023. Lee Sung Jin joined to rewrite the script by March 2023, one of several creatives who returned to work with Schreier from the Netflix series Beef (2023–present). Production was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes, causing some cast changes in early 2024. Calo joined by then for further rewrites. Filming took place from February to June 2024 at Trilith Studios and Atlanta Metro Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and also on location in Utah and Kuala Lumpur.Thunderbolts* premiered on April 22, 2025, at the Cineworld Leicester Square in London, England, and was released in the United States on May 2, as the final film of Phase Five of the MCU. The film received positive reviews from critics, and has grossed $160.4 million, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2025. The film's ending reveals that the asterisk in the title denotes The New Avengers, with the Thunderbolts team rebranded as the "New Avengers". Following the film's opening weekend, Marvel Studios began marketing the film with that title.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Send us a textOn this, our 103rd episode, Marvel demanded it and we delivered. Why? Because well, what else is playing in theaters that has any marquee value? My guests today are my two pals from the Treasure Valley that migrated to the great state of Utah, David Johnson DMD and Burton Brown. And before we get down to business the synopsis. In Thunderbolts, a rag tag group of misfits and vaguely criminal antiheroes are forced to work together to stop a calamitous, world-ending, threat. Are we just lock-stepping goons for watching this film or was it worth a damn?Find out! Marvel finally has a certifiable hit on its hands with THUNDERBOLTS* after a string of disappointments, but is it enough to put MCU back on top? Florence Pugh returns as Yelena/Black Widow II, along with Sebastian Stan's Bucky, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus's Val, as they meet Lewis Pullman as... [Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*.]One of the very best parts of having a returning guest on Collider Ladies Night? Realizing how much they've accomplished during such a short period of time. Geraldine Viswanathan made her first Ladies Night appearance in 2020 for The Broken Hearts Gallery and since has completed a four-season run on Miracle Workers, starred opposite Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks and Sarah Snook in The Beanie Bubble, headlined Drive-Away Dolls with Margaret Qualley, made Oh, Hi! with Molly Gordon which secured distribution out of Sundance 2025, and now she's part of one of the biggest film franchises of all time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Viswanathan makes her first MCU appearance as Mel in Thunderbolts*. She's Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) extremely attentive and diligent assistant. Initially, she seems quite loyal too, but when Bucky (Sebastian Stan) suggests Mel secretly slip him information on Val in hopes of having her impeached, eventually, Mel concedes. While that choice may suggest Mel's willingness to double-cross her boss, ultimately, she changes course again, pushing the button that saves Val's life from the Sentry (Lewis Pullman). So where does Mel stand? Does she skew more villain than hero? Does she still admire Valentina? That's exactly what I dug into with Viswanathan during her second Collider Ladies Night interview. Hosted on Acast. For this week's main podcast review, Lauren LaMagna, Cody Dericks, Tom O'Brien, and I are reviewing and discussing the latest film from Marvel Studios, "Thunderbolts*," starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen & Julia Louis-Dreyfus. At a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) needs a shot in the arm, this ragtag group of antiheroes has come together under the direction of "Beef" filmmaker Jake Schreier to deliver one of the franchise's freshest films in years as it tackles themes of loneliness, depression, and camaraderie. What did we think of the story, performances, action, humor, score, and how it sets up the future of the MCU? Please tune in as we touch upon these points and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review.
