Zero and Wiz RECOMMEND Tron How is it that video game nerds like Zero and Wiz have yet to see the 1982 film Tron? That is a mystery to us, to be honest. But for Wiz, this films feels like it's made for people who are specifically nostalgic for games around that time, such as Atari and Arcade games like "Space Invaders" and "Pac-Man". In fact, that's exactly what the movie looks like: an Atari game come to life. The garrish, glowing costumes along with all of the locations that are adorned with wireframe may remind many of those you fell in love with video games with the arcade classics. But the nostalgia may have a bit of issue for people who watch this for the first time now: this movie is clearly meant for kids. Characters are thin and the entire concept is really meant to not be thought about too deeply. Because if you do, then a lot of questions seem to rear its ugly head. The big example: why is it the programs look like their programmers? Did the programs Tron and Yori really need to be played by the characters who created them? Doesn't that make it sort of confusing when Flynn is in the program...or when Flynn's program was in the server in the beginning of the film? It would make a lot more sense to have different actors playing Tron, Yori and the other characters in the game. Yet Zero disagrees: he feels the film is plenty accessible since the movie doesn't have a lot of techno jargon to sift through. He also feels like it showcases a Disney that isn't seen much anymore: the time they experimented and tried different things. Tron is enjoyable for what it is. It's fun in a "don't think too hard about it" way. But honestly, that's likely why it isn't as beloved as other sci-fi franchises...unless you really dig the setting or the concept of the film despite it not being as robust as it could be.

Communication is such an important part of the human experience. We all come from different backgrounds and with different experiences, but being able to communicate with each other and share our own perspectives brings us closer together. When Chezik's 3-year-old son, Yori, drowned in a backyard pool, she was unexpectedly thrust into a completely new world and forced to learn a new language. This was the language of grief. Over the next year, Chezik was drawn to other grieving families, especially those who had lost children to drowning. She felt very strongly that she needed to do something to try to decrease the number of drowning victims which is the #1 cause of death in young children. Since Chezik had a background in film production, she knew that the best way for her to get the message out would be through film. What resulted is a simply beautiful documentary called 'Drowning in Silence' (available to watch on Amazon Prime or free on Tubi). In the film, Chezik shares Yori's story as well as the stories of other children who were drowning victims. Through these stories of amazing young children, she calls for action for all of us to do our part in decreasing the number of drowning victims. These actions include having an adult as a designated 'water watcher' (much like a designated driver), encouraging all young children to wear life jackets within 100 feet of water, and even working to provide swimming lessons for young children free of charge. In addition to making this powerful film, Chezik also started a nonprofit organization (nomoreunder.org) to help with education and provide free swim lessons to children, especially those of black and brown communities who are at higher risk of drowning. Chezik's call to action profoundly affected me. Watching her film not only changed the way I think about drowning on a personal level, it changed me as a pediatrician as well. No matter how much information I feel like I need to give parents during a well-child visit, I will never again neglect to remind parents of the risks of drowning and provide information to help protect children as much as possible.

Ganz langsam entfaltet sich die Geschichte um die Freundschaft zweier Jungen: Minato, der Ältere, wird beschuldigt, Yori zu mobben und beschuldigt seinen Lehrer, ihn geschlagen zu haben. Was steckt dahinter? Was ist wirklich passiert? Wie einst in RASHOMON wird auch hier die Geschichte nacheinander aus drei Perspektiven erzählt. Zuerst mit den Augen der resoluten, alleinerziehenden Mutter (großartig: Sakura Ando), die ihren Sohn mit aller Kraft verteidigt, dann aus der Perspektive des Lehrers, der mit seinen Stärken und Schwächen unter die Räder des Systems gerät – und schließlich aus der Perspektive der Kinder.Während die ersten beiden Akte einem lang vorkommen können (wenn man noch nicht in Kore-edas Raumzeit angekommen ist), bildet der dritte Akt den bewegenden und dramatischen Höhepunkt der Geschichte. Die beiden Kinderdarsteller Soya Kurokawa und Yota Hiiragi sind herausragend – ihre Figuren wehren sich gegen die Erwachsenen, ihre Vorurteile und Regeln, die dem Glücklichsein im Wege stehen. This is: Can Kauffman's NK Boolean networks make humans swarm?, published by Yori Ong on May 8, 2024 on The AI Alignment Forum. With this article, I intend to initiate a discussion with the community on a remarkable (thought) experiment and its implications. The experiment is to conceptualize Stuart Kauffman's NK Boolean networks as a digital social communication network, which introduces a thus far unrealized method for strategic information transmission. From this premise, I deduce that such a technology would enable people to 'swarm', i.e.: engage in self-organized collective behavior without central control. Its realization could result in a powerful tool for bringing about large-scale behavior change. The concept provides a tangible connection between network topology, common knowledge and cooperation, which can improve our understanding of the logic behind prosocial behavior and morality. It also presents us with the question of how the development of such a technology should be pursued and how the underlying ideas can be applied to the alignment of AI with human values. The intention behind sharing these ideas is to test whether they are correct, create common knowledge of unexplored possibilities, and to seek concrete opportunities to move forward. This article is a more freely written form of a paper I recently submitted to the arXiv, which can be found here. Introduction Random NK Boolean networks were first introduced by Stuart Kauffman in 1969 to model gene regulatory systems.[1] The model consists of N automata which are either switched ON (1) or OFF (0). The next state of each automaton is determined by a random boolean function that takes the current state of K other automata as input, resulting in a dynamic network underpinned by a semi-regular and directed graph. It can be applied to model gene regulation, in which the activation of some leads to the activation or suppression of others, but also to physical systems, in which a configuration of spins acting on another will determine whether it flips up or down. NK Boolean networks evolve deterministically: each following state can be computed based on its preceding state. Since the total number of possible states of the network is finite (although potentially very large), the network must eventually return to a previously visited state, resulting in cyclic behavior. The possible instances of Boolean networks can be subdivided between an ordered and a chaotic regime, which is mainly determined by the number of inputs for each node, K. In the ordered regime, the behavior of the network eventually gets trapped in cycles (attractors) that are relatively short and few in number. When a network in the ordered phase is perturbed by an externally induced 'bit-flip', the network eventually returns to the same or slightly altered ordered behavior. If the connectivity K is increased beyond a certain critical threshold, the network's behavior transitions from ordered to chaotic. States of the network become part of many and long cycles and minute external perturbations can easily change the course of the network state's evolution to a different track. This is popularly called the 'butterfly effect'. It has been extensively demonstrated that human behavior is not just determined by our 'own' decisions. Both offline and online social networks determine the input we receive, and causally influence the choices we make and opinions we adopt autonomously.[2] However, social networks are not regular, social ties are often reciprocal instead of directed and people are no automata. NK Boolean networks are therefore not very suitable for modeling an existing reality. What is nevertheless possible in the digital age, is to conceptualize and realize online communication networks based on its logic: just give N people a 'lightbulb app...

Flynn has been trying to hack into ENCOM's mainframe computer to find evidence that ENCOM's senior executive Ed Dillinger stole five video games he created. Unfortunately, Dillinger's supercomputer Master Control Program constantly foils Flynn's efforts and dictates and controls most of the computer systems. One night, Flynn's former girlfriend Lora Baines and ace computer programmer Alan Bradley help Flynn break into ENCOM to shut down the MCP with Alan's security program Tron. While at Lora's ENCOM work station, the MCP uses Lora's matter transmission laser on Flynn. It digitizes him and transports him into the computer. Flynn finds himself in an electronic world ruled by the MCP and his evil chief henchman Sark. There low-level computer programs are the alter egos of their creators and are forced to compete in gladiatorial games. Flynn, as a User, is capable of fantastic feats within the computer world. With help from Tron, a heroic and fearless security program and his lover, Yori, Flynn sets out destroy the MCP and help Tron liberate the system from the MCP's control. Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are back after being dusted by Thanos, but it's a brand new world to them and there seems to be a new order to it. New World Order is the title for the first installment of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and it became available on Disney Plus on March 19th, 2021. Join host Steve Loscalzo for a short discussion on the first episode of adventures of Sam and Bucky as they figure out their place in the post-Blip and seemingly (at least for the time being) a post-Avengers world. Sam doesn't feel worthy and Bucky seems lost. It's ladies night, and the feelings right! Ok we don't have a woman on this show (hey Yori) but we discuss women Comic Book readers and their numbers in comics. We also joke around on comic book news and got tipsy in the process.
