The Salt Path, a memoir published in 2018, told an inspirational story; how Raynor Winn and her husband Moth lost their home following an unwise investment while the couple were dealing with Moth's diagnosis of a rare terminal illness. It was how they dealt with these blows that was so uplifting: they embarked on a 1,000km coastal walk and a journey of self-exploration. The book sold more than two million copies and prompted a film adaptation starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. And while creative licence is usual and even expected in any memoir, an investigation by Chloe Hadjimatheou, a reporter with the Observer newspaper, claims Raynor – real name are Sally Walker – had embezzled money from a former employer.Hadjimatheou also raises a sceptical eyebrow about the diagnosis of corticobasal degeneration that Moth received in 2013, though she does say that nothing she has seen contradicts his diagnosis or the book's account of it.So what has been the reaction from the publishers, the film-makers and the couple in the eye of this literary storm – the Walkers, aka the Winns.Statements responding to the allegations came as the week went on including one from Raynor posting on her website. She admitted her deep regret for any mistakes she made while working for her former employer and is devastated by “unfair and false” accusations that her husband's illness was fabricated or exaggerated. She said the book's account of the way they lost their home is true and that their property in France is “an uninhabitable ruin”. She noted the couple have no outstanding debts.Chloe Hadjimatheou explains the fallout to her report.Presented by Bernice Harrison. Produced by Suzanne Brennan. Hosted on Acast. Are the couple behind the phenomenally successful 'The Salt Path' lying in their incredible memoir? How has an AI band duped music fans around the world? What is the secret sauce to the Youtube sensation Hot Ones? The Salt Path rocked the world in 2018 when couple Raynor and Moth Winn told their real-life tale overcoming terminal illness and homelessness by taking a 630 mile walk around the UK. Now an incredible article in the Observer claims that the main elements of Raynor and Moth Winn's story, including their names, are fabrications. What is the truth and what do publishers or film studios do in cases like this? The Velvet Sundown are racking up millions of listeners on Spotify, despite having never existed. Does it matter that our streaming services are flooded with AI slop - and can Richard and Marina have a number one hit using the same software? Hot Ones, it's the show with hot sauces and even hotter IP. The Sean Evans fronted YouTube show has sold the format to a German comedian - but what is the secret behind this success? Recommendations:

Imagine standing at the threshold of your home, bailiffs hammering at the door, knowing that once you step outside you'll be homeless. On top of that, your husband has just been diagnosed with an incurable neurodegenerative disease. In one single moment, you're forced to wave goodbye to a life you spent 20 years building while also losing hope for everything that might have come next. For Raynor Winn, it was in this moment of complete despair and panic, that an idea formed after she glanced down and saw a book among the packing boxes. It was about a man who had walked the South West Coast Path with his dog: "We could just fill a rucksack, follow a line on a map and just walk," Raynor thought. So, with nothing but two rucksacks on their back, a tent, and the South West Coast Path as their compass, Raynor and her husband Moth began walking.630 miles…Navigating a path with an ascent equivalent to climbing Everest nearly four times. It's a story so extraordinary, Penguin snapped it up. And it's since become a best-selling book and, more recently, a feature film starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. Why you should tune inWe all have moments when life derails our plans, when everything feels broken and our dreams seem lost to time and circumstance. But as Raynor's story shows us, sometimes, rock bottom isn't the end. And a long-held dream can become a reality in the most unexpected of ways. Here's what to listen out for:[00:58] The childhood dream.[05:07] When life becomes impossible to juggle.[08:06] Building life on your own terms.[10:21] "This is as bad as life can get."[16:04] The moment everything changed: "We could just walk".[19:58] From self-doubt to bestselling author.[23:48] How material possessions can trap us.Press play now!

The Names by Florence Knapp. Cora is married to Gordon, a highly respected doctor, but what goes on in their own home is something entirely different. When she has a baby son she heads off to register his birth, with instructions from Gordon that she's to name the baby after him - but her nine year old daughter has another idea, and Cora has her own preference. The story then splits into three different lines, in each of which the baby boy is given one of these three names and we follow his life until he's 35 years old - and each of the named scenarios shows the impact of a name on a person's life. It's very cleverly done and there's been a lot of international buzz about it. The Salt Path by Raynor Winn. This is currently screening at cinemas - the film is based on this book which was originally published in 2018 and has been reissued. It's the true story of Raynor and her husband known as Moth, who in their 50's lose absolutely everything and find themselves homeless and destitute - with Moth also suffering a debilitating illness. In the absence of any other options they decide to walk - more than 600 miles on the UK's South West Coast Path, from Sommerset to Dorset via Devon and Cornwall. It's an extraordinary story of real courage and endurance, and finding themselves in the process. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's been reported that 1.5 million people are taking GLP1 weight-loss jabs and a huge majority are buying online without a face-to-face appointment with a doctor.   Yesterday, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) warned that women using weight-loss jabs must use effective contraception - and it is not known whether taking the medicines could harm an unborn baby. To discuss whether people using the jabs are aware of these issues and getting the right advice, Anita Rani is joined by GP Dr Sarah Jarvis and BBC Health Reporter Philippa Roxby. The Salt Path is a new film based on Raynor Winn's international bestselling memoir, starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years has a rare neurodegenerative condition, their home is taken away and they lose their livelihood. With nothing left to lose, they walk the 630-mile South West Coast Path. It's the first film directed by the acclaimed and award-winning theatre director Marianne Elliott, whose celebrated productions include War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. She joins Anita in the studio. For the first time since 1973 women will walk out to compete at Queen's Club as the Queen's Tennis tournament gets underway. Think menopause is why you're gaining weight? It's not. The truth: your metabolism stays stable from age 20 to 60. What does change? Your energy balance—and most women don't see it happening. In this episode, I unpack the real reason weight loss feels harder now, and what you can do to shift it. You'll learn how energy in (food) vs. energy out (movement) drives fat loss, why tracking intake matters more than ever, and how your body subtly burns less as you lose weight—without you even noticing. What you'll walk away with: Why “calories” are just energy—and why mindset around them matters The law of thermodynamics: no one gets around it How untracked changes in daily movement stall fat loss Why tracking isn't about judgment—it's data to guide your goals What's really behind midlife weight gain (and it's not your hormones) Cut through the confusion. Author Raynor Winn experienced a week like no other back in 2013 - and it inspired the hit film starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. In the space of seven days, she and her husband Moth lost their family home, and then Moth was diagnosed with a rare terminal degenerative brain disease and given two years to live. Homeless and facing an uncertain future together, Raynor and Moth left on a 630 mile trek along the South West Coast path and made the trail their home. That journey inspired Raynor's book - The Salt Path. "Many books get optioned, but they rarely make it to film. So I didn't expect the film to be made, to be honest. So when I realised it was actually happening - I think my main concern was how they could capture the story." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Equinix, the world's digital infrastructure company, recently collaborated with fashion designer Maximilian Raynor to bring the internet to life at his debut 2025 London Fashion Week show. The opening exhibition of the show saw 'The Personification of the Internet' come to life as a dress - encapsulating the physical reality of the hidden networks that power our digital lives. The dress, made from 3.6kms of cabling used at Equinix data centres, weighed in at 25kg and took 640 hours to make. It highlighted that the internet doesn't reside in an invisible "cloud"; instead it relies on physical infrastructure that is all around us. It served as a powerful reminder of the intricate and unseen forces behind the intelligent age we live in. Speaking on his collaboration with Equinix, Maximilian Raynor said: "As a designer, you don't need access to the finest materials to create something beautiful. Often, the most unconventional materials, paired with a make-do-and-mend approach to design, can achieve really exciting outcomes. Working with these materials and discovering a new technique to bring them to life has been a joy." Bruce Owen, EMEA President at Equinix, explained: "By bridging the gap between the physical and virtual, we wanted to create something tangible that highlights the thousands of connections Equinix fosters to support economies and societies daily. "The design pays tribute to the physical infrastructure that constitutes the internet. Rather than being an inexplicable force, it is a complex, intricate network of cables traversing land and sea, with physical connections housed in Equinix data centres worldwide. "This campaign is a light hearted exploration of an important topic. We should celebrate the internet's tangible impact on daily life and business, as well as its crucial role to economies throughout the world. "Whether it's developing new drugs to combat diseases, facilitating online and in-store payments, or keeping people connected across the world, we seek to highlight the value that data centres bring to society and generate global awareness for our rapidly growing and essential industry." James Beard nominated Chef Matthew Cooper and the folks at Conifer announced a new endeavor on Monday night- It's called RYN! It will be a farm-to-table tasting menu restaurant, and like Conifer, it'll be gluten-free. Also like Conifer, they'll support local farmers and purveyors, providing fresh, and sustainable ingredients. If you listened to Conifer's podcast with us in March, you heard Chef Cooper break the news that they'd have their own farm soon. Well, that farm will be right outside the back door, and they'll be growing much of their own food right on the farm. They also hope to provide community events and much more. It's set to open next year. We'll have more info as it becomes available and catch up with Chef Cooper next year. The Ozark Beer Company's release of its heralded Bourbon Double Cream Stout, or BDCS, went live Monday, and as of last night, they were still selling it on their website. It's a smaller run this year, so it won't last long. You can pick up your orders in their taproom starting December 28th. There are few things I like more than fun food & Bev promotions, and one smacked me RIGHT across the face the other day on Instagram. Black Apple Hard Cider is having a Short Girl Appreciation night, where they'll short your tab 10% if you're a female under 5-foot-2... it runs from 5-10pm on Tuesday December 21st... don't forget, they have a full cocktail program now to go along with some of the country's best cider. Speaking of cocktails, if you're in the Siloam area, Park House Kitchen & Bar has come out with their holiday cocktail menu! That Peppermint Mocha White Russian and Smores Old Fashioned have my attention. Check it out on their social media... Now to Rein Sushi & Hibachi... to be so young, what a past these folks have. There are 3 owners, Reiner Wibowo, Averie Mattix and Bari Abe, and they're super-tight. Reiner and Bari are both originally from Indonesia but met in Harrison, Arkansas, where they both met Averie and started a popular business there that they'll talk about. Later, they got the itch to open in an area where they liked to go on their off days, Northwest Arkansas. This is their 2nd business here, but the first one was purposefully short-lived, while they were looking for a place to set up their dream business... By the way, there are some unique menu items that we get to the bottom of! Check out Reiner, Averie and Bari on this edition of the Flavors of Northwest Arkansas!

In this second part of the episode, Michael Raynor and Michael Barnard offer an in-depth analysis of the comparison between hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric buses, focusing on key findings and discrepancies in a recent CUTRIC study. Barnard critically examines issues related to replacement cycles, carbon pricing, refuelling facilities and individual bus complexity. He highlights the study's failure to account for technological advancements in batteries, such as decreasing costs and improving lifespans, which position battery electric buses as a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.  Raynor digs into financial projections and the challenges of managing multiple bus technologies in transit systems like Brampton's. He applies his expertise related to scenario-based planning, gained in his Harvard DBA and published in his 2007 book, The Strategy Paradox, pointing out flaws in CUTRIC's use of point estimates without error bars. Raynor notes the complexity involved in maintaining hydrogen buses, both in terms of infrastructure and organizational demands, compared to simpler battery systems. He raises concerns about Brampton's decision to move forward with a potentially expensive and inefficient hydrogen pilot, citing a $1.1 billion discrepancy caused by timing assumptions in hydrogen bus deployment.  Raynor also explores how the study's reliance on discounting future costs skews financial comparisons between the two technologies. He discusses the need for carbon emissions to be integrated into transit planning decisions and contrasts CUTRIC's analysis with the EU's more sophisticated approach to carbon pricing.  The episode concludes with Raynor's personal reflection on the difficulties of tackling climate challenges while underscoring the importance of rigorous evaluation processes in transit planning. Raynor and Barnard call for Brampton's transit proposals to undergo third-party reviews and improved quality control to ensure transparency and better decision-making.

Today on the podcast in Andy Raynor! Andy is a runner based in the UK and has a YouTube channel with over 28 thousand subscribers known as the FOD runner. He reviews running shoes and all of his races and training for 5Ks, 10Ks, half, and full marathons. YouTube is one of the places where I found true passion and motivation to start running seriously, and so channels like his and many others hit home for me. Andy is a very analytical person in the way that he approaches the training and racing process and his deliberate approach has brought him success. He started running in his 20s a little less than 10 years ago, and he holds PR's of 2:40 in the marathon, 1:13 in the half marathon, 33 minutes for 10K, and 16:05 for 5K. He does all of this while doing a full-time job, having a family, and running an incredible YouTube channel. Andy's incredible and infectious passion for the sport shines through in my conversation with him today. This conversation is really for anyone who wants to dive into the world of marathoning, and just enjoy a very insightful conversation between two committed people in the sport of running. Andy and I talk all about his 9 and half kilometer race that he did earlier today, mindset and overcoming adversity, his journey from being a soccer player to committed to the sport, why it's important to control the controllables, and much more. If you haven't already, please consider giving this podcast a follow and a five-star review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. That goes a long way in supporting the growth of this podcast so we can inspire more people in the world of running and in that process grow this great sport that we all know and love. In this episode, host Michael Barnard engages in an enlightening conversation with Michael Raynor, co-author of The Innovator's Solution and an expert in carbon reduction strategies. Raynor shares his personal journey into sustainability, the evolution of his focus on decarbonization, and his current work developing innovative solutions for addressing corporate carbon challenges. A key topic in the discussion is the Raynor's new firm, S3 Markets, which emphasizes the need to decarbonize upstream commodities to meet net zero commitments. Rayner highlights the difficulty corporations face in managing Scope 3 emissions and suggests shifting from traditional carbon offsets to “insets,” where companies pool small investments to make a meaningful impact. This approach targets the 80-90 high-emission commodities responsible for the bulk of industrial emissions, which make up 15% of global GDP.The conversation takes a practical turn as Raynor discusses Mississauga's hydrogen bus pilot program. He recounts how he identified potential issues with the initiative and reached out directly to the city's mayor and council. His insights led to an invitation to present his findings to the Mississauga City Council on October 30th. The conversation turns to Barnard's dive into the CUTRIC (Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium) in advancing urban transit decarbonization through research and policy recommendations, as well as some red flags.Barnard and Raynor explore the financial and environmental trade-offs between hydrogen and battery-electric buses. Barnard provides a critical analysis of data from California and the EU's JIVE program, showing that hydrogen buses come with significant costs for refuelling infrastructure and maintenance. Comparatively, for the cost of five hydrogen buses, municipalities could procure twelve battery-electric buses, making the latter more attractive both financially and environmentally. The episode wraps up with a closer look at CUTRIC's recent report for Brampton, where Barnard identifies questionable assumptions about hydrogen system costs. One factor alone, the cost assumption for gray hydrogen could have a $200 million swing, dwarfing the $10 million variance called out justifying a blended hydrogen + battery electric fleet instead of a battery electric only fleet.Raynor examines the varying carbon costs of different hydrogen types—gray, blue, and green—and emphasizes the importance of carefully choosing technologies based on actual benefits. The battery-electric buses offer superior emissions reduction per dollar spent.

Jordan Raynor says, “Most Christians spend more time thinking about a one-week vacation than they do thinking about eternity…but it inevitably will lead us to settle for these wishy-washy half-truths about heaven.” Raynor goes on to explain, “Here's why it matters we as adults and parents get this (truths about heaven) right. If we get this right, our kids' hope for the future will be so much more real and so much more concrete, and their purpose in the present will become so much richer.”If you want a theological education for your kids as it relates to finding their purpose, this episode is absolute gold.If you're struggling with whether your work has eternal impact, this episode is for you.If you're looking for a biblical framework for how to set a family vision for building for the Kingdom of God, Raynor provides the path forward. In Jordan's new book, The Sacredness of Secular Work: 4 Ways Your Job Matters (Even When You're Not Sharing the Gospel), Raynor defines the terms sacred and secular and why it matters for us, and our children, to understand them. In our conversation, he addresses parents and kids through this lens and cites Charles Spurgeon, who once said, “For the Christian, nothing is secular, and everything is sacred.” Raynor encourages us: “Imagine the freedom if every child understood that when the Holy Spirit is in them, everywhere they go is sacred.”Here are some hot topics we discuss:Your life and work are a vehicle for bringing God eternal pleasureYour life and work matter for eternity because it's how we earn rewards and eternal treasuresYour life and work matter because through them you scratch off the thin veil between heaven and earthHow you can leverage your life and work to the instrumental end of making disciplesShow Notes: Order a copy of The Sacredness of Secular Work by Jordan Raynor: https://amzn.to/3SngaorGentlemen, apply now for The Leader's Heart Men's Cohort, Feb. 26-29, 2023:https://www.famousathome.com/theleadersheartThe MyKidsEQ Coaching Cohort launches March 4!
