Today's Flashback Friday is from episode 302 published last February 25, 2013. Jason Hartman is joined on this episode by Steve Forbes, the editor in chief of Forbes Media, to propose and attempt to answer the question: Why does government get bigger and bigger when we know it doesn't work well? Mr. Forbes states that history proves free markets work for the people, while big and over-reaching government is about meeting its own needs. In his book, Freedom Manifesto: Why Free Markets Are Moral and Big Government Isn't, coauthored with Elizabeth Ames, the authors delve into historic events and statistics, showing that in every instance, big government promotes favoritism, stifles economic growth, dumbs down education, and creates an atmosphere of “rigidity and scarcity.” At the same time, it opens the door to corruption. Mr. Forbes discusses the benefits of economic freedom, which promotes creativity and growth. Jason and Mr. Forbes also talk about current economic issues, including the bubbles that the Fed continues to create in the bond market and housing. “When government undermines money, bad things happen,” laments Mr. Forbes. “When government says it's here to help, watch out!” Get more awesome content when you subscribe to Jason's YouTube channel today! Randall Lane likes to live on the edge: I know because, besides being chief content officer and editor of Forbes, he's my son. His motto is "life is to be experienced," and in both his work and play, he would rather do things than regret the things he didn't do. Here he gives us four exciting (sometimes harrowing) tales of his adventurous travels.-- He starts off with a hair-raising helicopter ride in the Liberian jungle, on his way to helping accelerate health care in an area that needs it. He finds himself in a situation that seems dire ... and then, a surprise!-- On to Lebanon and Syria, and a dilemma based on identity. There is potential danger from Hezbollah, some mistakes and absurdities that could be dangerous, and we find out how Rand gets out of it -- in a kind of truth or dare.-- In Cambodia Rand reflects on the people's forgiveness. And in Vietnam he makes a big jump in Halong Bay, and pays the consequences. Lesson learned? Maybe.-- Drag racing cars in Nevada? Rand and his friend race up to 200 miles an hour in a rented car -- top down. Do they win? Let's just say it's close.(To be continued in the next episode: More daring stories of memorable people, and of eating poisonous blowfish. And Ernest Hemingway-related travel tales: in Cuba, meeting a literary legend; and in Pamplona, Spain, running with the bulls . Don't miss Part Two of Rand's amazing travel adventures, in Episode 15 of Places I Remember!)_____Randall Lane is the chief content officer and editor of Forbes. Taylor Swift has had her fair share of stalkers thought out her career - and there is a man who just received a jail sentence for stalker Taylor - he is going to prison for 30 months and pleaded guilty to stalking and sending threatening letters and emails to Taylor's former record label - he sent over 40 letters that became violent and threatening and he even drove to Nashville on several occasions to deliver the letters in person. In lighter Taylor Swift news, Taylor revisited her country roots by performing at the Academy of Country Music Awards. She had a stunning performance of her song Betty that was shot from the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville. Kanye West has been tweeting about wanting to leave his record label. He expressed that he wanted to buy back his masters and then even tweeted out some images of what he claimed to be 10 recording contracts between him and the label, and asked lawyers to have a look at it. He called on other artists to back up his frustrations like Bono, Paul McCartney, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift. His texts are difficult to navigate and full comprehend but amongst the tweets is also a video of him urinating on his Grammy that he placed in the toilet. This isn't the first time Kanye has gone on a twitter rant or said bizarre things and now Twitter is giving him a time out. According to Twitter, Kanye violated the platform's terms of service and the platform disabled his account for 12 hours after he shared the phone number for Forbes Editor and chief content officer Randall Lane. If Kanye violates the terms of service again, he could have his account permanently suspended. Interview with Forbes Editor Randall Lane at the HP Hackathon for Good | Forbes Under 30 Summit by EdTech Times
My guest today is Steve Forbes is chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media. He’s authored or co-authored 4 books including his most recent one titled REVIVING AMERICA: HOW REPEALING OBAMACARE, REPLACING THE TAX CODE, AND REFORMING THE FED WILL RESTORE HOPE AND PROSPERITY. Steve Forbes discusses the tragic irony of a healthcare system caters to the insurance companies, employers and big government while all but ignoring the needs of the end user. He’ll reveal how one of the unintended consequences of Obamacare is that it’s forcing many Americans to take charge of their own healthcare and paving the way for a true healthcare market that put the needs of consumers first. He also makes the case for a flat tax as the one system that really benefits everyone and a return to the gold standard as the best way to stabilize and grow the U.S. economy. Plus Steve Forbes will talk about the future of Forbes, running for President, and more. If you enjoyed my interview with Steve Forbes, then order his book REVIVING AMERICA: HOW REPEALING OBAMACARE, REPLACING THE TAX CODE, AND REFORMING THE FED WILL RESTORE HOPE AND PROSPERITY on Amazon.
