(5) Josiah Osgood explains that by 58 BCE, Caesar's allies sent Cato to Cyprus to liquidate its treasury, a mission Catoperformed with obsessive rectitude. Simultaneously, Caesar departed for Gaul, building a formidable military reputation and a deep bond with his soldiers through strategic risk-taking. The alliance between Caesar and Pompey was cemented by Pompey's marriage to Caesar's daughter, Julia. However, Julia's death in childbirth severed this vital link. Catoexploited this loss, romancing Pompey toward the senatorial side as anarchy and riots plagued Rome, signaling the beginning of the Triumvirate's collapse.
(6) Josiah Osgood recounts Caesar's campaigns in Britain and the subsequent Great Gallic Revolt led by the charismatic Vercingetorix. While Caesar fought for survival and glory, Cato exploited his struggles in Rome to portray him as a power-hungry threat. Following the murder of Clodius and rising urban anarchy, Cato made a pragmatic compromise by supporting Pompey as "sole consul" to restore order. This maneuver effectively turned Pompey into a junior dictator and Cato's ally. With Crassus killed in battle in the East, the Triumvirate was destroyed, leaving Caesarisolated and the Republic on the brink.
On today's episode, we discuss how the hosts move from light-hearted banter about technology glitches and old computers into a wide-ranging conversation on current political controversies, from FISA courts to state constitutional amendments and election laws. They examine Donald Trump's evolving stance on surveillance, debate the effectiveness and abuse of FISA, and question why reforms like the SAVE Act struggle while intelligence powers are renewed. The conversation then shifts to international issues, including Trump's blockade strategy toward Iran and Cuba, speculation about future regime change, and concerns over Canada's proposed sovereign wealth fund as a step toward deeper statism. Along the way, they touch on media bias, late-night comedy's political turn, the attempted shooting at the Correspondents' Dinner, and how rhetoric from politicians and journalists may fuel real-world violence. The episode closes with local Louisiana concerns like gas prices, tax policy, and school funding, illustrating how national and global politics intersect with everyday life.. Don't miss it!
On today's episode, we discuss the fast‑moving Iran crisis as Trump orders a global interdiction of “ghost ships,” tightens the naval blockade, and publicly warns Tehran that time is running out to accept a cease‑fire before the U.S. escalates to far more punishing strikes. James and Dwayne unpack reports of a U.S. battleship deliberately putting a shell through an Iranian‑flagged freighter's engine room—then boarding it by helicopter—and debate whether miscommunications like “clear” versus “clear the engine room” should matter once a sanctioned vessel ignores repeated radio warnings. They zoom out to ask whether Trump's hard line is about stopping Iran's nuclear ambitions, training Europe to take war seriously, or quietly proving that NATO is a one‑way money sink the U.S. should radically shrink or replace. In the domestic sphere, the crew ties AI‑driven layoffs and failing progressive experiments—such as New York's slow‑rolling “free” grocery stores and the collapse of ultra‑woke Hampshire College—into a broader argument that elite policies are colliding with economic and political reality, with Trump's popularity rising precisely because he's willing to break those sacred cows. Don't miss it!
On today's episode, we discuss a whirlwind of personal milestones, cutting‑edge tech, and fast‑moving political and legal news in Trump's America. James opens by celebrating Dwayne's son earning Eagle Scout, using the ceremony and the demanding 40‑hour leadership project to reflect on perseverance, community service, and why only about 2 out of 100 Scouts ever reach that rank. He and Glenn then gush over Glenn's new Tesla Cybertruck—its camera calibration, tight‑space maneuvering, rear‑wheel steering, smart‑summon “dog whistle” mode, and how quickly it learned James's daily parking spot—while Dwayne notes regulators have closed their probe into low‑speed summon fender‑benders after software updates. The conversation shifts to Washington, where they unpack Steve “Stinky Steve” Bannon's contempt‑of‑Congress conviction likely being vacated, explain the difference between executive privilege and Fifth‑Amendment rights, and dive into a Bush‑appointed judge's injunction against Trump's privately funded 90,000‑square‑foot White House ballroom based on a novel theory that the president is only a “steward” of the mansion. From there, Dwayne and Glenn outline Trump's escalating confrontation with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, the rescue of a downed F‑15 weapons officer using disinformation flights, Gulf‑state pressure to stop Iranian tolls on shipping, and why helium flows through the strait matter for semiconductor production. They close by gaming out the 2026 midterms, arguing Trump's string of wins—from foreign‑policy optics to Artemis and Easter‑egg‑roll PR to aggressive moves on birthright citizenship and election integrity—combined with a deep bench of potential hard‑charging attorneys general like Pam Bondi, Harmeet Dhillon, Ron DeSantis, and Trump's own former personal lawyer, could set up both massive legal reckonings for the “blob” and a red electoral wave if security, borders, and voting rules break his way. Don't miss it!
On today's episode, we discuss how rapidly advancing technologies—especially autonomous vehicles, AI, and humanoid robots—are about to reshape everyday life, work, and city infrastructure. James, Glenn, Mark, and Dwayne open with PJ's Coffee banter and then dive into self‑driving cars, using Waymo's 170 million driverless miles and dramatically lower accident rates alongside James's own Tesla “deer detection” stories to argue that human driving will become too risky and expensive to insure, especially in big cities. They explore knock‑on effects like cheaper robo‑taxis, fewer personally owned cars, reclaimed urban parking real estate, and drone delivery networks that could make one‑hour Amazon drop‑offs routine, even in smaller markets. From there, the conversation shifts to compute and energy, as they talk about data‑center power demand, Musk's proposed Terrafab chip complex as a domestic rival to TSMC, and massive new gas‑fired plants and possible micro‑nuclear solutions being built to feed AI workloads in Louisiana. The crew also reacts to multi‑agent AI systems like Grok, jokes about “investing in real intelligence,” and walks through how Tesla's Optimus robots could share vision data with cars, work in factories and restaurants, and eventually handle home tasks from cooking to yard work—upending both jobs and household roles. While they repeatedly muse about “Skynet” and communist China's ambitions toward Taiwan, they ultimately frame this wave of automation as a huge opportunity for regions that adapt quickly, universities that pivot into robotics and AI, and individuals willing to offload drudgery to machines and focus on higher‑value work and relationships. We've got two deep dives for you today, each with a lot of laughs (and almost no Donald Trump)!First, we break down the lawsuit brought by seven police officers against rapper Afroman for hurting their feelings, which ended in a total victory for the defense. It's still legal to make fun of cops in America! We dissect the claims, discuss what it means to sue for false light invasion of privacy and unreasonable publicity. And then we break down the audio of closing arguments and how each side went about persuading an all-white jury in deep red rural Ohio. Then, we discuss the ongoing shenanigans in the US Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, where the Trump administration has installed a “triumvirate” of lawyers to run the office rather than just submit a nominee to the Senate. Things came to a head when the government botched a prosecution for child sexual abuse materials and tried to plow ahead anyway. Judge Zahid Quraishi summoned the DOJ lawyer responsible to appear in court and… it did not go well. And for subscribers, we have a bonus that dives even deeper into the mess the Trump administration has gotten into in New Jersey because it refuses to back down and just do the normal thing.Cooley v. On today's episode, we discuss a wild mix of tech, politics, and personal news, starting with Dwayne's overnight interstate wreck in his Honda and why everyone's grateful he walked away without a scratch. James and Glenn then break down a viral Cybertruck crash video, arguing that driver panic and a bad handoff from self‑drive to manual—not Tesla's cameras or lack of LIDAR—sent the truck into a wall, even as its NASCAR‑style crumpling kept everyone inside safe. The crew uses that story to explore how regenerative braking, ultra‑quick acceleration, and human reflexes can clash when people suddenly override automation at highway speeds. They pivot to national headlines with an update on Trump's powerful chief of staff, Susie Wiles, who has been diagnosed with early‑stage breast cancer, pausing to hope early detection and top‑tier care lead to a good outcome. In a lighter segment, Glenn highlights Steak 'n Shake's new “Patriot Shake,” complete with red‑white‑and‑blue sprinkles and a chocolate Statue of Liberty at a surprisingly low price, prompting jokes about needing a loan officer to eat there. Throughout, the conversation blends serious concern for friends and public figures with humor, brand riffs, and ongoing skepticism toward media narratives about both cars and campaigns. On today's episode, we discuss the rapidly evolving situation in Iran following the death of its supreme leader and what that means for regional stability and U.S. strategy. The hosts draw parallels between college football rivalries and geopolitical tension to explore whether President Trump is taking a major political risk or acting from a position of overwhelming strength. They walk through the principles of just war theory, asking if Iran's backing of groups like the Houthis and Hezbollah meets the threshold of aggression that justifies a forceful response. The conversation also touches on rumors circulating inside Iran, from underground opposition movements to wild stories about tracking devices in dental work. Finally, the panel looks ahead to what a post-regime Iran might look like, including the role of the Shah's son, the challenges of any “revolution against a revolution,” and how Operation Epic Fury could reshape the balance of power in the Middle East. Throughout, they mix in local color, sponsor shout-outs, and listener engagement to keep a heavy topic grounded and accessible. Don't miss it!

On today's episode, we discuss James's first full day living with his new Tesla, from accidental 80-mph “hurry mode” on a complex Jackson interchange to the car's eerie ability to catch his mistakes before they become collisions. The hosts describe how Full Self-Driving treats turn-signals, lane changes, parking lots, and even chained-off entrances as “suggestions,” branching through options in real time while still relying on the driver to understand modes and settings much like an aircraft autopilot. They compare slow mall chargers with newer, much faster superchargers in Ruston, detail how Smart Summon and parking-spot “training” work, and recount the car confidently handling ice, snow, and muddy driveways in conditions that would rattle most human drivers. From there, the conversation widens to Elon Musk's broader empire: Cybertruck orders, a planned merger of SpaceX and xAI, plans to move AI compute into space, and speculation that Musk could become more powerful than nation-state leaders because satellites are outside traditional regulatory reach. In geopolitical news, they revisit Trump's pressure campaigns on Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran, Russia's moves in Ukraine, Panama ejecting China from canal contracts, and how “blockade and siege” strategies can topple regimes without direct invasions. Domestic politics center on ICE raids, masked officers, new body-camera requirements, battles over the SAVE Act, real ID, filibuster rules, and the difficulty of preventing election fraud across multiple “vectors” like machines, mail ballots, and lax ID laws. The hosts close with frustration over slow accountability for alleged 2020 election abuses and Epstein-related revelations, but they argue that many cheating methods have been shut down, Trump is still advancing a longer-term plan, and in the meantime at least “the Tesla drives great and PJs coffee is still hot.” Don't miss it!
On today's episode, we discuss Martin Luther King Jr., communism, and how definitions of government control tie into debates over public education and energy policy. They then connect current unrest in Minnesota and protests over ICE enforcement to deeper concerns about manufactured crises, media narratives about “civil war,” and the use of filibusters and the SAVE Act in the ongoing fight over election integrity and voter ID. A substantial portion of the conversation critiques the filibuster, Senator John Thune's role in preserving it, and broader claims that both parties “rig” elections through machines, rules, and money barriers to entry. The hosts also debate policing, profiling, and use-of-force standards in the recent shooting of a woman blocking an ICE operation, emphasizing both the duty to comply with armed authority and the need to investigate every shooting to improve training. From there, they pivot to foreign policy, arguing over Trump's hardball approach with Denmark and Greenland, what “threatening an ally” really means, and how strategic leverage contrasts with existing U.S. access to bases. In the final stretch, they lighten the tone with stories about marriage, EV road trips, Tesla self-driving experiences, and the everyday tradeoffs between convenience, safety, and technological change.

We continue to drive down deeper into our real-time worldbuilding experiment armed with the comments of our listeners. One of the best things you can build for your campaign to feel real and immersive is by creating factions. Groups and organizations that have their own motives and goals that are distinct from the players. This creates inciting incidents, backstory fodder, and moving parts that conflict with the characters and create impetus for adventure. In this episode, Tony, Chris, and Dave finally begin discussing the biggest faction, and the inciting incident for the Boomtown setting, the shadowy conglomerate from the east coast of the world that is the driving force behind gathering the newly discovered ancient magical technology. In this episode, Thom takes a connotative look at the story of the Garden of Eden through the lens of the Vedic worldview. We launch into the opening salvos of the Badab War proper. We examine the tactics and temprement of the Fire Hawks and their penchant for genocide, and the expanding ambitions of the Karthan lords. The Marines Errant join the fray for the loyalists and the Executioners reluctantly join for the secessionists. We look at the hit and run tactics of the Mantis Warriors and the ultimately ill-fated battle on and above Bellerophon's Fall. With the space marine chapters engaging each other, the Karthan lords launch a final tithe raiding fleet, which ends in “hilarious consequence”. This week, to ring in Season 2 of History Homos, Scott is joined by Patrick and Bobby Tamburro to discuss the clash of wills between the two remaining factions of the failing Roman Republic after the death of Julius Caesar. On the side of the Triumvirate were two of Caesar's former right hand men Marc Anthony and Marcus Lepidus as well as his adopted son Octavian and on the side of the Republic respecting Liberatores was Marcus Brutus and Cassius Longinus. After considerable political and social turmoil back in Rome the Triumvirates set their sights on eliminating their rivals and the final battle occurred in late 42 B.C. in Macedonia near a town called Philippi. Michael Pento, president and founder of Pento Portfolio Strategies (PPS), joins Julia La Roche on episode 187 to discuss a dangerous triumvirate of bubbles in the economy: a real estate bubble, an equity bubble, and a credit bubble. These bubbles have been fueled by 20 years of a negative real Fed funds rate. Pento predicts that these bubbles will burst. He believes that the current situation is very dangerous and could result in a stagflationary environment. Michael also discusses inflation and the erosion of the middle class and the negative implications for the economy. Brenden Schaeffer breaks down the Cardinals 2-0 win over the Reds from Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Busch Stadium. Lance Lynn reached a milestone in his scoreless start, becoming the 6th Cardinal pitcher to reach 1,000 strikeouts in a Redbird uniform. Lance Lynn 2K for his career is a milestone just around the corner next. Cards got what little offense they needed to set up the Triumvirate for the slamming of the door, as Ryan Helsley converted number 30 on the year. We go down on the farm to discuss Luken Baker's power and the Springfield debut of lefty starter prospect Quinn Mathews. And unfortunately we need to have a more detailed conversation about the struggles by Nolan Gorman. They have reached biblical proportions. And not good bliblical... Like the parts about the plagues and stuff. I hope you all enjoy the final podcast of my 20s!
