MedLink Neurology Podcast is delighted to feature selected episodes from BrainWaves, courtesy of James E Siegler MD, its originator and host. BrainWaves is an academic audio podcast whose mission is to educate medical providers through clinical cases and topical reviews in neurology, medicine, and the humanities, and episodes originally aired from 2016 to 2021. Originally released: March 1, 2018 Dystonia refers to a complex spectrum of disturbances in movement, and the differential diagnosis is even more complicated, but Drs. Andres Deik and David Coughlin make it simple. In this week's episode of the BrainWaves podcast, we'll run through the basics of a dystonia differential and approach to managing patients with these complex symptoms. Produced by James E Siegler and David Coughlin. Music by Lee Rosevere, Rui, and the Freeharmonic Orchestra. BrainWaves' podcasts and online content are intended for medical education only and should not be used for clinical decision-making. REFERENCES Albanese A, Barnes MP, Bhatia KP, et al. When a word first enters the language, it sounds weird to some, radical to others and comforting to just a few. Only later does it seem 'natural.' So it was with the honorific Ms in the 20th century. So it may be with the non-binary Mx. Today, British banks and utilities routinely give customers the option to use Mx. Will American companies follow suit? And what might Shakespeare have thought? His gender-neutral 'master-mistress,' is arguably more poetic than Mx, but it might be a bit of a mouthful for our times. This episode was reported by Leo Hornak and Nina Porzucki. Music by Stationary Sign, The Freeharmonic Orchestra, Podington Bear, Josef Falkensköld and Silver Maple. This is the Epilogue and commentary for the three “Vietnam War Legacy” stories. In this commentary, I tie my fictional characters – Trey, Trang, and Anh-to the “real-life” history that inspired these stories. I also share my views on what I discovered about the Vietnam war era while digging around for background material to base these stories upon. As an American, I have been left with the opinion that, even though we as a nation have seemed to conveniently forget what happened as a result of our involvement in the Vietnam war, we need to remember what forces conspired to draw us into the conflict so that we don’t make the same mistakes again. Special thanks to The Freeharmonic Orchestra for the use of “Bogey” as background music.
This is the third story in this series – Anh goes from being a “Bui Doi” - an insignificant speck of dust to a “golden child” with a ticket to immigrate to America. Once in America, she thrives - but there still is one missing piece in her life. Does she find her biological father in time for her wedding? Does he even want to be found? What happens after this story ends? Special thanks to The Freeharmonic Orchestra for the use of “Loops to Aviemore” as background music.

This is the second of three stories revolving around the legacies that the Vietnam War left in people’s lives. After leaving Saigon and returning to her childhood home in Hui, Trang discovers that the ever-shifting geopolitical sands force her to move again to stay one step ahead of the Viet Kong guerillas - who are on the hunt for her and her baby, a baby that will be vilified and face outright discrimination in a society which has a preference for ethnic homogeneity. Special thanks to The Freeharmonic Orchestra for the use of “Sleepless” as background music.

UN negotiators are trying to salvage a ceasefire agreement surrounding the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah. In this episode, we're talking about a single topic: Substance use and TBI. The TBI Family's Deborah Bailin speaks with Lars Hungerford and Ezra Aune, DVBIC experts from Naval Medical Center San Diego, and then Army Nurse Daniel Hines talks about how a timely intervention helped a friend who was struggling with TBI and substance use. The TBI Family is produced by the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center.
