About 3000 Cantabrians short changed on the payouts they received for their quake damaged homes are a step closer to getting their money, after the settlement of a landmark class action. After a four-year legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court, lead claimants Brendan and Colleen Ross have come to an agreement with government-owned insurer Southern Response. As Conan Young reports, it's an important step in the government paying out roughly $300 million in compensation.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel's Agent Carter, Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, Marvel's Iron Fist, Marvel's The Defenders, Marvel's Inhumans, Marvel's The Punisher, Marvel's Runaways, Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, and Helstrom* comprise 29 seasons of television/386 episodes/over 300 hours, making up a massive portion of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe (as of the end of 2020, approximately 86% of it by runtime**). … The Incidents That Have Caused Increasing Concern: ...I was already scared by 2019 of how Captain Marvel would handle Coulson's history. Fortunately, the excellent film did not provide many significant problems, but this felt only like luck, since the film did not appear to take Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into account: seemingly implying that Fury and Coulson barely knew each other in 1995 (the show established Fury recruited and supervised Coulson in 1982), and having Coulson mention the Kree (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 1 involved him not knowing who the Kree were – fortunately, the T.A.H.I.T.I. protocol erased Coulson's memory of everything to do with his resurrection, and with Kree being a key part, they would naturally have also been wiped). The perfect casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade also unfortunately further drove the false narrative online, with people claiming that it meant the shows were “confirmed” non-canon due to Ali already having an MCU role as Cottonmouth. While this was an Internet overreaction given there are other examples of dual casting, the dual casting quirk not being acknowledged felt concerning. It admittedly did not help that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 6 set itself a year after Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel's Runaways: Season 3 took its timeline through to post-Avengers: Infinity War 2018 dates, yet unfortunately neither referenced the Snap. A 2019 quote from Mr. Feige, which fairly described the Disney+ shows as the first time TV would truly connect back and forth with the films, was falsely run by sites as “confirmation” that the other shows were not part of the MCU. This quote has been weaponised and referenced ad nauseum for 2 years. The Darkhold would appear in WandaVision with no link to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Marvel's Runaways The fan reaction to the Darkhold and Mobius scenes has also led to upsetting incidents where creators such as Jac Schaeffer and Michael Waldron are asked questions they are seemingly, understandably, not informed to answer, giving confused and accidentally damaging quotes. Cannon Impact: There are other great Marvel shows, e.g. Legion, but these have nowhere near the power or lasting impact in my heart simply by virtue of not being part of this world. The MCU family is such a wonderful thing, but right now, Television-inclusive fans don't feel like we're welcome in that family anymore. Mooted “Possibilities” If the Inhuman Royal Family needed to be rebooted within the MCU… it would not be the worst thing imaginable. The idea of being an extricable part of the MCU does not apply to Marvel's Iron Fist There is precedent with Star Wars for wiping canon, but there it was motivated by a need to free the storytelling. The Marvel Television MCU shows are not particularly restrictive. Most things can be picked up on fairly easily, perhaps at most needing a couple of throwaway setup lines. Alternate Universe: The shows aren't novelty What If…? type stories, e.g. “What If… Phil Coulson Were Resurrected?”, made to be a separate little alternate story – but born and bred as parts of building, developing, growing, interweaving the beautiful main MCU world and timeline. Some Hopes Recently, Mr. Feige made the comment, “Everything is on the board. That's one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go […] There are some great characters and actors from those shows.” This exciting quote bears similarity to previous remarks of Mr. Feige's, such as, “All of those things inhabit, however far on the outskirts, the same continuity, so certainly that opportunity [to integrate those characters] exists.” Eternals Earns PG-13 Rating https://www.filmratings.com/Search?filmTitle=eternals&x=0&y=0 https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-rating-description/ FilmRatings.com's breakdown of the rating describes Eternals as including "fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality." It's the latter element that has fans raising their eyebrows, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's movies having avoided sexual content since Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009. Unlike MCU movies past, romance is said to play a key role in the film's narrative. It even features a love triangle between on-again, off-again Eternal couple Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), the mortal human who's dating Sersi when the movie picks up in the present. The "brief sexuality" could also allude to a scene with Thena (Angelina Jolie), an Eternal warrior who becomes romantically involved with the Deviant Kro in Marvel's comics books. Perhaps tellingly, the final Eternals trailer shows Kro ensnaring Thena with his tendril-like appendages in an oddly intimate fashion, possibly alluding to the pair being in love. Even more intriguing, Eternals is confirmed to include an onscreen kiss between the Eternal Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his husband (Haaz Sleiman), which begs the question: will the movie be daring enough to feature a sexual moment involving a queer couple? It seems unlikely, given the MPAA's restrictive attitude towards LGBTQ+ content, but that won't stop fans from hoping anyway. Along with the MCU special, Disney+ Day will serve as the streaming premieres of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Disney's Jungle Cruise. As part of its preview of upcoming fall TV shows, Entertainment Weekly casually confirmed that Marvel's Hit-Monkey is not only a go but it's coming on Nov. 17 to Hulu. The long-in-development series has been relatively quiet since it was first announced as part of a suite of adult animated shows for Hulu, but fans can now expect it soon. Along with the release date, Hulu shared the first image from the show, featuring the titular assassin and his incorporeal sidekick. Check it out: Revenge can be sweet — and sometimes fuzzy. Based on the Marvel comic and created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, this darkly comedic series follows a Japanese snow macaque whose clan meets a stranded hitman, Bryce (Jason Sudeikis), and nurses him back to health. But when Bryce bites the dust, it's up to the titular simian (guided by Bryce's ghost) to follow in his assassin footsteps and seek vengeance. "He's a character who is violent and temper amental but also deeply wounded and innocent," says Gordon. —Devan Coggan Hit-Monkey Trailer https://twitter.com/Marvel/status/1439952785953361927?s=20 Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agent Carter Marvel One-Shot “Agent Carter” Becomes Easier To Find On Disney+ https://whatsondisneyplus.com/marvel-one-shot-agent-carter-becomes-easier-to-find-on-disney/ Following the release of the Marvel One-Shot “All Hail The King” on Disney+, Disney+ has made a little reshuffle and moved out the Agent Carter short into its own listing, having previously been found in the “Iron Man 3” extra section. In the short, we see British operative Peggy Carter joining the nascent S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. As she searches for the “Zodiac” key, Agent Carter also battles her misogynistic, bureaucratic boss, Agent Flynn. It takes place after the main events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The short was originally released in 2013 and was released originally on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray/DVD. It stars Hayley Atwell, Bradley Whitford, Dominic Cooper, Shane Black, Neal McDonough, and Tim Trobec. Currently, the short has only been moved into its own listing in some countries, including the US, Canada and Australia. Moving the short out from the extras section makes sense for multiple reasons, mainly to make it easier for people to find it. While adding extra content like deleted scenes or behind-the-scenes footage makes more sense to include in that section. Bonus features that don't have any real connection bar a home media physical release, are much more useful listed separately. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet shuts down rumors about her reprising her role as Quake for Marvel's Secret Invasion series on Disney+. https://www.instagram.com/chloebennet/ https://www.cbr.com/secret-invasion-chloe-bennet-debunks-quake-rumors/ Bennet commented on the persistent rumors during a recent Instagram story, noting, "I have avoided saying anything like this in general, on social media or whatever, because I thought maybe it would blow over, but it has not. I am in no way attached or involved, even at all or a little bit, in the Secret Invasion Marvel thing. I honestly don't even know really what that is... I am only coming on here to say this because it has gotten to the point that every day I'm getting hundreds of messages about this... I'm now getting like approached in person. Today it was in the tampon aisle at Target... So I figured I would just clear the air." Victorians have been rocked by a magnitude 5.9 earthquake - the largest in the state's history. Whilst it was unusually powerful, there were no reports of deaths or injuries and structural damage has been described as "minor". But authorities are warning residents to prepare for possible aftershocks.
A leading Australian geologist says the earthquake there yesterday was a big one and it was fortunate it did not occur under a major city. Several buildings were damaged in Melbourne after a strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck at nine fifteen in the morning in regional Victoria. Tremors were felt across the state, in New South Wales and in Adeleide. Melbourne University emeritus professor and geologist Mike Sandiford spoke to Susie Ferguson.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 and depth of 10 kilometers rattled the city of Melbourne yesterday and has raised questions of whether Australia's infrastructure lacks earthquake protections. The earthquake was one of Australia's biggest tremors on record and caused minor damage to 46 buildings, but no serious injuries have been reported. Meanwhile, it was the third day of anti-Covid lockdown protests in the city. The aviation authority declared a no-fly zone above Melbourne and more than 200 people were arrested yesterday, but reports say they were less violent than Tuesday's. Some lawmakers and labour unions are blaming far-right activists for infiltrating anti-Covid lockdown protesters' ranks and sowing vaccine misinformation. 9 News Melbourne reporter Chanel Zagon spoke to Susie Ferguson.

Alex, Tom S and Graham retreat from the terrible non-fungible present into the comforting embrace of the past, with the sequel to cult classic Psychonauts, the recent remaster and expansion of Quake, and the last great real-time strategy game, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Zach joins John and Neal to catch up on a bunch of games, both new and old. But first Neal and Zach chat with John about his recently released documentary on the development of Star Fox Command. John shares some stories from production and some additional insights from his interviews with the developers. After that Zach and John gush over how good Quake still is and get distracted by Halo. Neal and Zach dive deep into the world of Axiom Verge 2 and Zach looks forward to the possible revival of Bloodrayne. After a quick disclaimer, Neal pontificates on the difficulties inherent to building a snowman. John plays a new version of Myst as he does every year. Finally the gang turns to some listener mail to finish off the show. Connectivity has joined Twitter, so be sure to follow @ConnectivityNWR to be up to date on any announcements. I've been writing this episode description every day for the equivalent of 10,000 years. The day keeps repeating, I try to write the description again, and every night the whole day starts again. I just can't get this description right. I've tried listing what games we talk about, like 12 Minutes, Humankind, the Quake remaster, the Ghost of Tsushima update. I've tried explaining that we talk about a couple of the things that have come out of Gamescom. I've tried writing a little joke description where maybe I'm writing about the episode as though I'm like, I dunno, a dog who is also in the house of the person who's listening and the dog is giving it a bad review because there aren't enough high pitched noises, but he does like Tommy's voice. I've even tried writing it out as a little meta joke like I'm fucken Rick and Morty over here. None of it has worked. Please, don't let me wake up in this hell again. I don't want to write another description. I just want to live. Oh also a bit about the WarioWare demo. You can head over to our YouTube channel to watch videos of us playing games. In 2015, Sony quietly opened a brand-new, British first party team called Manchester Studio. Their charge? Make PSVR games. And so they did. Or, they tried to, anyway. Five years later, before even announcing their project or even leaving pre-production, the studio was shuttered, and now -- for the first time ever -- we know what they were working on and what went wrong. Their search-and-rescue virtual reality adventure sounds interesting, but leadership left much to be desired, and their execution was non-existent. So let's discuss. We'll also get into Call of Duty: Vanguard's proper reveal, chat about relics of The Last of Us: Part II's scrapped multiplayer functionality left in the game's code, wonder at the first-ever release of the original Quake on PlayStation hardware, and more. We'll also get into the mailbag, fielding your questions on topics ranging from emotion in our medium and the meaning of AAA to corporate consolidation and an unfortunate catastrophe concerning a Kit-Kat.
