Boycotts have been a strategy and tactic for advancing social and economic justice, especially when laws, courts, or government are not on the people's side as they were for Black citizens in 1955. In Ep. 67 Michon and Taquiena (aka The Boston Sisters) talk about why they highly recommend the 2001 HBO film BOYCOTT.Directed by Clark Johnsonand based on the book Daybreak of Freedom by Stewart Burns BOYCOTT chronicles the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, where a 26-year old minister named Martin Luther King ,Jr (Jeffrey Wright) was called by the community to lead a local movement that ended segregation on public transportation in Montgomery and throughout the United States.-------Timestamps0:00 INTRO to Podcast2:53 Montgomery Bus Boycott historical background4:06 Why Michon and Taquiena recommend BOYCOTT film8:59 Martin Luther King Junior at 26, young minister, husband, father, reluctant leader13:19 - Montgomery Bus Boycott from one day to 13 months14:52 - Overcoming roadblocks, arrests, disruptions to the boycott 19:22 - A Black community organizing and pulling together20:42 - Resource: Putting the Movement Back In the Civil Rights Movement (Teaching for Change)22:36 - Charles Hamilton Houston challenges "separate but equal" segregation in the courts23:36 - Bayard Rustin and Gandhian nonviolence26: 42 - Hidden history: nonviolence and violence-based strategies in Civil Rights Movement29:23 - History is choices31:23 - Many voices, one movement -- what the Montgomery Bus Boycott achieved34:02 - Where to find BOYCOTT filmSUBSCRIBE to the podcast on your favorite podcast platformLISTEN to past past podcasts and bonus episodesSIGN UP for our mailing listSUPPORT this podcast SHOP THE PODCAST on our affiliate bookstoreBuy us a Coffee! Bravery, Grit and Can-Do attitude are in ample supply with Steve and Jamie Michon. They started a machine shop with 3 young boys, very little money, lived in Steve's parent's basement, and bought a thrashed Fadal that Steve needed to completely rebuild before he could make parts on it. Similarly, Jamie knew nothing about Quickbooks, or the business side of running a machining company. But none of those things stopped them from realizing their dream. Thankfully Steve had a very supportive network of prior contacts and employers who provided them with work and allowed them to organically grow into the powerhouse they are today. This is a wonderful American dream story of a couple working side by side to grow a successful business and a family at the same time. I know you'll love their story and this interview.Steve's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/steve-michon-290091109/Jamie's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-michon-8a78641/Zero Tolerance Website: https://www.zerotolerancecnc.com/ Culture by Design: https://www.amazon.com/Culture-Design-individual-organizational-performance/dp/0692100784?dplnkId=d08a71d0-5681-4a63-93a3-8eb7f951265c&nodl=1

I'm always interested in what factors shape the design of a programming language. This week we're taking a look at a language that's wholly shaped by its need to support a very specific kind of program - audio processing. Anything from creating a simple echo sound effect, to building an entire digital instrument based on a 17th-century harpsichord. The language in question is Faust, and this week we're joined by Romain Michon, who works on and teaches Faust, as we look at how it's designed, what kind of programmers it's for, and how it does the job of turning audio-pipeline definitions into executable code. And one of the surprising parts of that compilation strategy is the decision to have it compile to multiple targets, from the expected ones like C and Rust, to the exotic destination of FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays). FPGAs are like reprogrammable circuit boards, and Romain dives into Faust's attempts to go from a high-level description of an audio program, all the way down to instructions that tell a chip exactly how it should wire itself. So rather aptly for a technology podcast, we start this week with what your ear can hear and go all the way down to logic gates and circuit boards…–Try Faust in the Browser: https://faustide.grame.fr/Faust Online Course: https://www.kadenze.com/courses/real-time-audio-signal-processing-in-faust/infoFPGAs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field-programmable_gate_arrayVHDL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHDLVerilog: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VerilogGrame: https://www.grame.fr/The (Strawberry Jam) Gramophone: https://www.grame.fr/articles/gramophoneGramophone Workshops: https://www.grame.fr/evenements/atelier-gramophones-65ca16b19fec4Support Developer Voices on Patreon: https://patreon.com/DeveloperVoicesSupport Developer Voices on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@developervoices/joinKris on Mastodon: http://mastodon.social/@krisajenkinsKris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krisjenkins/Kris on Twitter: https://twitter.com/krisajenkins
Écrire l'a longtemps « épuisé ».

In episode 53, Michon and Taquiena aka The Boston Sisters talk about THE NEW LOOK and why they selected the Apple TV+ series as a binge-worthy historical drama. THE NEW LOOK isn't a "fashionista" story about designers Christian Dior (Ben Mendelsohn) and Coco Chanel (Juliette Binoche). Created by Todd Kessler and inspired by real events during World War II, THE NEW LOOK focuses on the impact of the 4-year Nazi occupation of France and the early months of Liberation on Paris's community of haute couture designers, Resistance fighters, business owners, and everyday people all struggling to survive. The series interweaves the complex choices of the two iconic fashion designers, Dior and Chanel, who ultimately would change fashion forever. However, Catherine Dior (Maisie Williams), the French Resistance fighter and younger sister of Christian Dior adds an important and overlooked chapter to World War II history. Episode 104- Join hosted Troy Saunders as he converses with Singer, Songwriter, Producer and all around beautiful spirit Michon Young!Michon's smooth, sultry, and inviting voice has been seducing Indie soul and inspirational listeners for nearly 15 years! In this episode Troy and Michon discuss how she started as a choir member in Pastor Marvin Winans' church. We all know Marvin Winans from the, Gospel Superstar, Winans Family. Michon tells the story on how she went from being apart of the choir, to soloist, to being handpicked by Pastor Winans to go on tour with him.Now 13 years later, Michon has released 5 albums. The first an Inspirational gem called Possessing The Promise. 10 songs of some of Michon's finest work. Her plan was to make this her first and last album. She just wanted to fulfill a life long dream. They talk about what was her inspiration in continuing to record and release more music. Troy and Michon joyfully go through her catalog picking out some of the gems on each album. One thing each song has in common is the expression of love. Whether it's a social awareness song like "Colorless Tears". a song of an ending relationship as in "Count It A Lesson" or the joy of finding new love, as in "Oooh"; the message is always about love. Of course, Troy highlights the latest project "Love Is My Lane" last. They start of by sliding into first single "Bounce Back" released this past January. Then they converse about Michon's work with the incomparable Frank McComb; before ending with the latest single "Lovely" (Troy's favorite on the album) and "Pull" which was released as a single in the UK. It appears that the UK audience has really crowned Michon as Indie Soul Royalty, and rightfully so. I hope through this episode many more people, not only in the UK but here in the US and worldwide, will recognized the brilliance of Michon YoungListen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Pocket Casts and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa. Besos y almuerzos puercos

This month, I bring together some of my nieces and nephews of experience. From oldest to youngest, Albert, Mackenzie, Michon, Kyle & Cooper. These are my sibling's kids, the ones who grew up knowing their Aunt “A” looked a bit different but never questioned why I was there or the love that we had for one another. My relationships with all of my nieces and nephews were the stepping stones to a lot of the work that I do today with youth. If you ever wanted to know more about me and how I build relationships with children and young people, this is the episode to listen to!!
Launch Your Box Podcast with Sarah Williams | Start, Launch, and Grow Your Subscription Box
During this special episode, you'll meet and be inspired by Launch Your Box member Michon Shaw. It's not only her journey to starting and launching a subscription box that inspires, but her positive outlook and joy-filled dedication to her community. Michon has built a successful career around her passion for American Sign Language (ASL). She is an ASL interpreter herself as well as a professor who teaches ASL students to become interpreters. In addition to working a full-time corporate job, Michon also started a company dedicated to providing interpreting services and celebrating ASL interpreters: Interpret Educate Serve (IES). Michon has a special passion for increasing the number of underrepresented interpreters and celebrating Black and Brown ASL interpreters. This passion led to her designing her first t-shirt, which she brought to the National Black Deaf Advocates Conference. She sold out her stock in just five minutes. This experience opened Michon's eyes to the fact that this niche was not being served. And that she could serve them by supporting and celebrating them. She added apparel and merchandise as the second part of her business. It was during Coaching Week of 2021 that Michon first saw the possibility of adding a subscription box to her business. She wanted to provide a special experience for ASL interpreters with items for them to use and wear to increase awareness of and celebrate their profession. Michon joined Launch Your Box, dug into the training, took what she learned, and implemented it. She launched with 12 subscribers and has slowly and steadily built her subscriber base. She added the TerpTee-shirt club and also offers a box specifically for interpreting students. Michon's biggest challenge to growing her subscription box business is TIME. She is a seriously busy woman! But her passion for the community she serves means she makes the time. Join me for this episode to meet Michon and be inspired by her energy, passion, and positivity.
