The role of technology in the energy transition has been talked about for years. In a speech at the Leaders Summit on Climate in 2021, International Energy Agency Director Fatih Birol said:“IEA analysis shows that about half the reductions to get to net zero emissions in 2050 will need to come from technologies that are not yet ready for market. This calls for massive leaps in innovation. Innovation across batteries, hydrogen, synthetic fuels, carbon capture and many other technologies.”So what major advances in technology have we seen in the industry since that speech? And what role does current technology have in driving innovation in the industry? From Google's AI-driven efficiency programs to cutting-edge technologies improving grid performance, this month we're looking at the tech that's needed to accelerate the path to net zero.Carolyn and Laura are joined by Neil Osborne, Google's Chief Energy Evangelist (yes that's the real title), as he shares how the company is using AI to optimise energy usage. As Carolyn explains, data centres are energy-hungry. So at the same time they're saving energy with AI optimisations, they're using it. How are companies like Google addressing this dilemma?Other key technologies discussed in this episode are: Dynamic Line Ratings (DLR):This technology is already helping National Grid to unlock up to 40% extra capacity for electricity to flow safely through their power lines. We speak to Alex Houghtaling from DLR operator LineVision to find out more.Smart Conductors: Jason Huang from TS Conductor joins Laura and discusses revolutionary smart conductor technology that measures temperature and sag in real time. This can help utilities push more power through the grid safely and optimise capacity, aiding the global transition to renewables.Battery Storage Safety: Eric Stein from Viridi explains how advanced lithium-ion battery storage systems, initially developed for NASA, are making grid storage safer and more reliable.AI for Grid Maintenance: National Grid uses AI to monitor and maintain the condition of its infrastructure, from predicting the impacts of climate change on vital assets to analysing the network via autonomous drones. Gary Stockdale, National Grid's Net Zero Innovation Manager, discusses how innovation is helping them to work smarter in the mission to net zero.

Gary Stockdale is a kinesiologist, functional movement and aquatic specialist based in Thousand Oaks, California, who devotes his practice to changing the relationships people have with their bodies. Gary has developed a strong understanding of movement foundations, joint mobility, functional gait and running mechanics. I'm thrilled to be able to bring Gary back on here with us for a second conversation! We have linked his first episode below in case you haven’t tuned in. We discussed the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on us as humans, as fitness professionals and on the world at large, and the heightened awareness we are all experiencing in body, mind and society as a result of the virus. We also dug into the power of simplicity, and the important distinction between self-sacrifice and service. Gary is wise, introspective and thoughtful with his words and practice, and we are excited to share this conversation with you! Gary is a functional movement specialist who devotes his work and practice to changing the relationships people have with their bodies. His perspective goes so much deeper than just the anatomy and biomechanics of what’s limiting someone in their ability to experience their full capacity for athleticism and performance; he sees the connection between all things. He asks us to investigate the reflective nature of our relationships with others and what that shows us about our relationship with ourselves, how our emotions and feelings in a given situation affect our ability to authentically be present, and much more. Given all of our common passions and interests, Gary and I were able to expand on some really exciting principles in our conversation here and I am thrilled to share it with you all! To connect further with Gary and learn more his work, you can check out his Instagram handle or his YouTube channel listed below: @gfunctional www.youtube.com/channel/UCepoTdRjAubxJjI2YIvPJGQ Be sure to share this episode with friends if you enjoyed listening, and of course please leave us a review if you liked what you heard!

From Glendale, CA when it was a sundown town… I had no idea what that was, Gary Stockdale tells all. No African Americans, Chicanos, or Jews, oh my! Is that really possible? Guess so. With no plan B, Gary’s life and living has been all music, all the time. From $20 a night at The Comedy Store to singing at The Oscars with Mary J Blige this Sunday night, Gary, twice Emmy nominated, has spent years on the tube with Penn & Teller, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Cop Rock, where his scene’s been immortalized and made hip again thanks to Beavis and Butthead, to being naked in a hot tub with Ron Jeremy (no, please no) while Tracy Lords got prudish. Mentored by Henry Mancini (Michael Nouri, we talked about you and Hank, too), he sang about Teenage Daughters, and closed with his just dropped, You Don’t Know, from his current charting, Keep Letting Go. Did I mention he sings on the Justin Timberlake/Chris Stapleton video for their current hit, Say Something? Yup, that, too. Zach Laliberte and Gary Stockdale This week the men give us a sneak peak into whether their first blumpkin is worth remembering, and what men consider a benchmark-worthy first. Lots of impromptu singing about The Lady Flower and Lisa's scar from that cute guy from Jr. High School.
Last Week on the Road Gleib was at one of Kelly Carlin's legendary Polymind hangs, and around the fire was Emmy winner David Feldman, Director Paul Provenza, Kelly Carlin, (3 past LWOE guests in one recording!) and her husband Director of Photograph Bob McCall. They discuss everything from political movements to net neutrality, optimism vs nihilism, and if paradigms can truly ever be shifted. They are also joined by comedian Chris Bonno, musician Gary Stockdale, Richard Green, and daughter of legendary comedian Lord Buckley, Laurie Buckley.
Kelly converses with Sounds True founder Tami Simon about following the small, quiet voice of intuition, living in the big "I don't know" of life, and learning to trust yourself. Gary Stockdale and Ali Handal are the musical selections of the week.
Kelly and Flip talk about his journey as a comic, what it's like to win over a crowd, and how fucking big the universe really is. Music by Tracy Newman and Gary Stockdale.
Kelly reads her poignant essay entitled, Spring. Then Lisa Cron, author of Wired for Story, chats with Kelly about how humans are shaped by story and how this can make your writing irresistible. Music by Gary Stockdale, John Elliot, and Katie Goodman.
After a few weeks of absence, Kelly is back! She spends the show with her new BFF Kathleen Madigan where they reminisce about their crazy, fun trip in November on Lewis Black's Comedy (Booze) Cruise in the Caribbean. Kelly also spins some holiday tunes from her Polymind Community of artists, the fab Gary Stockdale, and the groovy, funny ways of Amy Engelhardt and The Bobs.
Do you like comedy? How about music? How about Martial Arts? This show combines all of them. Andy Kindler is hysterically funny, and when he does a demonstartion of his skills as a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do (for real), its very interestinga nd entertaining also. Mike Kennelly is Andy's teacher (also mine), a facsinating person, whois a therapist, martial arts master and teaches something called appiied philosophy. Gary Stockdale is a great composer, arranger and singer/songwriter, has worked on films, tv shows and also with Penn & Teller. Gary does two songs in this show that will blow you away. A uniquely entertaining show-Enjoy!

This is the time when comedians can be funny and real, show all of who they are. I talked with Paul Provenza (The Aristocrats, The Green Room with Paul Provenza, Set List) and Troy Conrad about their new show Set List, which is an improvised stand-up show, live and now on TV. We talked about using your imagination and not your material, kind of a metaphor for life. We talked about all the different skills a standup has, and some of the best around, both here and around the world. Plus, a wonderful song from emmy nominated composer/musician/arranger Gary Stockdale! Gary has worked in all media for years, has doen all the usic for Penn & Teller and many others. Check them out, they are artistic pioneers, funny and brilliant!
