Jim and Mike interview FANTASY recording artist ANDREA VON KAMPEN (Lincoln Nebraska Singer/Songwriter) ABOUT ANDREA VON KAMPEN Andrea von Kampen is a folk singer-songwriter based in Lincoln, Nebraska, whose effortless vocal delivery has been praised by Hear Nebraska as “soulful and worn-in.” With the successful release of two EP's, Another Day (2015) and Desdemona (2016), a Christmas EP (2016), an Audiotree Live album (2017), and her debut full-length album Old Country (2019), Andrea has quickly established herself in the recording studio and on the road. She has shared the stage with artists such as Tall Heights, Ira Wolf, Dead Man Winter, The Brother Brothers, Dead Horses, Darling West and many more. Old Country, Andrea von Kampen's debut full-length album, was released on February 8th, 2019. The album was recorded and mastered in Nebraska and features exclusively Nebraska-based musicians. Inspiration for Andrea's songs often come from literature, art, and nature; in particular the literature and nature of Nebraska and the Midwest. The title track, Old Country, is based on the book “My Ántonia” by Nebraska author Willa Cather. Her single, Portland, received notable attention including features on The Bluegrass Situation, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Additionally, Amazon Music Canada featured Portland in their ‘Top Songs of 2018' playlist. In a review of Portland, Ear To The Ground Music said, “It's not so much about where you're going, but that you want to get away. That emotion of “idealistic escapism” is one that listeners can all connect with, whether or not we want to go to Oregon or somewhere else. The inflection in von Kampen's vocal has the conviction of a gospel track and the sincerity of a Dylan folk ballad.” Andrea von Kampen first appeared in the public eye with her submission of Let Me Down Easy into the 2016 Tiny Desk Contest. Within 24 hours of submission, NPR Music, All Songs Considered tweeted her video as the featured artist of the day, saying “we were completely blown away.” Ultimately, Andrea finished the competition as a top ten finalist, which lead to increased popularity of her EP, Another Day, specifically her song Trainsong. Since then, her EPs have amassed millions of streams on Spotify and continue to grow. Her newest album "THAT SPELL" was released on August 6, 2021 You can visit andrea's website to order the album and other cool merchandise at: www.andreavonkampen.com COPYRIGHT CLAIM : the songs TAKE BACK THY GIFT, TETON, JULIA and TRAINSONG used with permission from : Andrea Von Kampen, Jimmy Rhine, Concord & Fantasy Recordings You can find our podcast on Apple Music, Spotify, Podbean, Iheart Radio, Pandora and anywhere you listen to podcasts. Conversations on the theme of music with Andy Norman, founder of Hear Nebraska.
Nobody wants to be the person that can’t do something. But sometimes, that’s what is necessary to ensure that you’ll keep your sanity. There’s only so much time in the day, and you’re only one person. Our panelists talked about the importance of saying “no,” and the best ways to do that. They also shared their thought on taking personal time away from the office, and when you should just ignore that email in your work account. Featured music from Hear Nebraska — a Nebraska nonprofit dedicated to meaningfully connecting and engaging fans, artists and communities through music journalism, education and events.

Kronch and I have known each other for many years. He was filming and interviewing live bands here in Omaha since before most of you videoheads were in high school. Podcasting was a fantasy. Love Drunk was a but a far off dream of a young Django. When you wanted to Hearnebraska, you had to either be there or tune in. Back in the 90's it was quite the chore to showcase music on television and computers were still not ready for mass video consumption. Yet somehow, Kronch and a band of misfit tech-heads made a show that chronicled a bit of Omaha music history. We chat about it and reminisce on old times. The weekly hour long TV show featuring performances of local, regional and national alternative rock, reggae and blues acts taped live on location. Trout Tunes aired from 1991 to 1999 in Omaha, Lincoln and Wichita.

So once again the gang at Love Drunk and Hear Nebraska along with the help of a few friends set out on tour to record video of a slew of bands, spreading the good word of Nebraska music and to showcase some amazing talent from around the midwest. We also play two songs from each band. Opening song: "Spinning in Circles is a Gateway Drug" by Red City Radio Cheap Girls online The Sidekicks online
In this episode, I welcome a trio of game changers from the Omaha video scene. Yes, there is a video scene. Django from Love Drunk, Ben Semisch from Sound Surveillance, and Andrew Roger from Ingrained have been mastering their video skills with their own projects for a few years. Ben and Roger have frequently collaborated with Django on several Love Drunk Videos, a project that has set the bar for shooting bands in a “one take – one song” style. The quality is amazing, the settings are creative, and it’s all done live. In this episode, we are joined by South of Lincoln AKA Max Holmquist. We talk about his experience as a singer/songwriter hailing from a small town in Nebraska, and get a couple of great in studio performances. The cicadas even chime in... South of Lincoln is the stage name for Maxwell Beardsley H. and his one man folk show. The calm, boring life of a small Midwestern town drove him to pick up a guitar at the age of 15. Four years later, South of Lincoln started in 2006 as Max Holmquist’s solo project. Starting with a post-punk/emo sound in the vein as Dashboard Confessionals, etc. somewhere along the line his style shifted with his musical tastes. With the introduction of Alt/Folk from people like Damien Jurado, Neko Case, M. Ward, Andrew Bird, Rocky Votolato, etc., South of Lincoln made the shift towards Folksy storytelling.
