To fully appreciate the story of St. Bernardus today, one must first understand the story of its past and how its future is embracing that past while simultaneously laying it to rest. This is the story of Brouwerij St. Bernardus in Watou, Belgium; its history forever intertwined with one of the most famous Trappist beers, Westvleteren XII, brewed at the nearby Saint-Sixtus Abbey brewery.Meet Pieter Verdonck, Story-Teller & Marketing ConsultantPieter Verdonck's official title may be Marketing Consultant for Brouwerij St. Bernardus, but in reality, he is the storyteller and historian of this remarkable Belgian brewery. Pieter speaks eloquently, almost with reverence, about how Westvleteren and the Saint-Sixtus Abbey brewery shifted its roots, holding on to its Trappist origins and giving birth to another brewery that is gaining its foothold within the sometimes confining world of Belgian beers.St. Bernardus' roots may have begun with French cheese-making monks, but its future lies within its beer and the people who believe in it. Pieter's storytelling skills will take you on a journey from France to Belgium, from cheese to beer. Our conversation with Pieter delves into the complex relationship with Brouwerij St. Bernardus and the brewery of the Saint-Sixtus Abbey, known for Westvleteren 12, one of the rarest beers in the world.Westvleteren 12 may be looked upon as the Holy Grail for Belgian beers (maybe even all beers), and St. Bernardus recognizes this; however, they also recognize that from history comes great lessons. The brewers at St. Bernardus are not re-creating a great beer; they are forging a path for the next great beer. Embracing history while crafting their own path as they head into the future.Join us as we chat about this and more, including St. Bernardus, its beer (including its iconic Abt 12), its destination status with its gorgeous guesthouse, the joy of Belgian beer, travel, and so much more.
La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Carrying the weight of history and expectation poses a particular challenge for some European brewers, but nowhere is that more apparent than in the world of Belgian brewing. How, in the face of changing technology and consistently variable ingredients, does a brewer stay true to the ideas behind the classic recipes that underpin the core beers that their brewery produces? Over the past two decades, these are exactly the questions that St. Bernardus (https://www.sintbernardus.be) brewmaster Wouter Dely and sales and marketing manager Marco Passarella have had to face. In this episode, they discuss: Adjusting classic recipes to today's modern brewhouse reality Working with barley that varies year-to-year by adjusting step mash times and temperatures Using Belgian candi sugar in brewing abbey-style beers Maintaining healthy fermentations using techniques like drauflassen (https://beerandbrewing.com/dictionary/KU8vZ0OyWJ/) Fostering ester production by limiting head pressure in cylindroconical tanks Using different temperature glycol in fermenter jackets through the course of the fermentation Time as an ingredient in brewing The mechanics of bottle conditioning And more.
Matt calls in from the Bernardus hotel with our friend and the founder and CEO of Range Energy, Ali Javidan. Ali is an engineer and high-caliber driver, who shares with us his take on why the GT3 RS is so stiff, why adjustable dampers matter as much as springs; his experience driving in Aspen at the FAT ICE Race; how to durability test a semi-truck trailer; why batteries need to be liquid-cooled; and when to ignore rock chips. Note: This show was recorded remotely with Matt and Ali calling into Zack at the studio. There were a lot of Wifi dropoffs and glitches but Zack did a bunch of hacking and stitching to remove those moments. As such, you might notice a few jumps and cuts. It was the best we could do.

There's a lot to love about Belgian beers.Once upon a time, many craft drinkers in America turned to Belgian beers for their quality and complexity. Josh and John E Morgan are joined by KLM Open champion and, now a 9-time winner on the DP World Tour, Pablo Larrazbal. He speaks about last week at Bernardus, his improvements as a golfer at 40 years old, his Ryder Cup ambitions and reels off some interesting text messages after his win yesterday.
Welcome to Georgia! From time to time to time I travel, and if I'm going to hit the road, you're coming with me. We are starting our adventure in Georgia in Decatur, home of the Brick Store Pub. This interview is with Jonathan Oberlander of J. Scott Cellars. In this interview, Jonathan speaks about his time before wine, back when he was a self-described “surf bum.” He talks about his first job out of college as a wine and spirits distributer, which exposed him to the idea of winemaking as a career. Jonathan discusses his decision to enroll in the winemaking school at Cal State Fresno and what the wine education contained. Later, Jonathan describes post-grad life working as assistant winemaker with Bernardus and later at Silvan Ridge. He also shares what it is like running his own brand, his interest for variety, and his experience working with over 30 varietals. This interview was conducted by Rich Schmidt at the J. Scott Cellars tasting room in Eugene on July 13, 2022.

Buckle up for the newest Sip Sip Hooray! podcast episode! When you think of wine in Carmel Valley, the first label that comes to mind is Bernardus. This Monterey County winery led the way in establishing the Carmel Valley AVA as a world class wine region. The Marys are excited to be back at Bernardus Winery & Vineyards in beautiful Carmel Valley Village! We filmed several episodes of our NBC TV show In Wine Country here. We're at the Bernardus tasting room to catch up with winemaker Dean De Korth and grape whisperer Matt Shea. These guys are the OGs of the Bernardus team. They shaped the winery's house style along with founder Bernardus (Ben) Pon, who was an avid Bordeaux lover. But Ben was also passionate about cars, and along with wine, VWs and race car driving are part of his story. While Bernardus is an established label, we're excited to share how the winery evolves and innovates. Plus, Bernardus is a beloved label around the world, especially in Holland. Tune in to find out why! So pour a glass, listen in and enjoy the ride!

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Selamat mendengarkan GBU.
In his famous intellectual and spiritual autobiography, Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton remarks that the main problem for philosophers is how they can “contrive to be at once astonished at the world and yet at home in it.” The attainment of this double need--for surprise and for security--is, he maintains, at the heart of human happiness. Modernity poses similar questions to educators who, though at home in classical and medieval thought, nevertheless desire to prepare their students to live in the middle of the world. Namely: How can we root our students in those timeless truths, so prized by the ancients and furthered by the medievals, while preparing them to embrace the modern world? How can we form our students to be both contemplative and active, to be comfortable in the country and in the city, so to speak? In Biblical terms: how can we remain in this modern world of ours, and yet not be of it? To help us begin to answer these questions, we welcome to HeightsCast Dr. Daniel Bernardus, a theoretical biologist by training, teacher and tutor at Amsterdam University College by profession, and a philosopher and author by passion. In this episode, Dr. Bernardus introduces us to the ideas of Leonardo Polo, a Spanish philosopher from the University of Navarre, whose work just might offer us a way forward. Can we integrate the modern, the classical, and the Christian? Can we love the modern world and God first? Listen in and see for yourself. Show Highlights Who is Leonardo Polo? How Polo's philosophy can help educators Can modern philosophy be integrated with classical and Christian thought? What Freedom in Quarantine can teach you The roots of modernism and what they can teach us about the way forward The limits of classical thought How medieval monasteries were places of innovation Can anything good come from modernity? How modern science can harmonize with classical philosophy Consequences of modernism in education What is success? Can we measure it? How technological innovation can be pursued for love of God Why the family is essential to education What Leonardo Polo can teach those who are not educators Suggested Reading Freedom in Quarantine Resources Leonardo Polo Institute of Philosophy

Jackie O's Brewery doesn't seem to be interested in bringing back malt liquor We started out our talk with Jackie O's Pub & Brewery founder Art Oestrike by talking on a topic we're passionate about - 40s of malt liquor. The brewery has brewed malt liquor in the past and we asked Art if it was time to do another one, and make it available in 40-oz bottles. "Who wants that?" he replied. We do, Art. We do. After gathering ourselves, we carried on with co-Directors of Brewing Operations Seth Morton and Alan Gordon. We learned about the origins of Jackie O's brewery and how Art's mother inspired the name, Oestrike shared his passion for sustainability in his business, they brew with 40% solar power and return what they don't use to the grid. They also have a farm where they grow some of the ingredients for their beer and food, and a bake shop to supply pastries and breads. Morton and Gordon tell us about a few of their new beers and we get into a discussion on CO2 recapture and the costs and benefits to a brewery. Finally, we learn about their upcoming Columbus, OH expansion. Our friend in the area tells us they've got a huge patio coming up. Good times all around.

Bertentangan dengan kepercayaan orang, time doesn't heal.

This is our Boxing Day Special. After watching all the Premier League Boxing Day matches, we stepped into the studio to talk about those games, and wrap up the soccer year so far. Since this was our first Boxing Day Special, Blake decided to go big with the Christmas beers. They are all from Belgium, they are all delicious, and they will all keep you warm on a cold night. The first was the Christmas Ale from St. Bernardus, followed by the Gouden Carolus Noël, and we finished off with the Scaldis Noël from Dubuisson. There was a lot of good discussion about these beers (and good discussion BECAUSE of these beers). We hope you all have had a happy holiday season. Thanks for joining us along the way. Here's to 2017! Cheers! -Love the beer, cherish the game. The Brewtiful Game.
In Ep#13 we continue our Christmas tour de force with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. We tried beers from Great Lakes Brewery and St. Bernardus. It was a big family Christmas indeed. We did it!
Jon and Karl return to drink and review more brews in this special holiday episode! Requiring yet another third chair, our good buddy Rob stepped in to assist in drinking the Sam Adams Holiday Pack, Rogue's Santa Private Reserve Ale and St. Bernardus Christmas Ale.
