How can smart cities and smart mobility shape the future of urban and rural areas? These and more topics will be discussed in the upcoming conference of the ITS Canada in May 2025 in Ottawa. How far is Canada in building a smart city and smart mobility area? What specific ingredients do they need as a country? Based on the population and the geographic surrounds Canada is in. What can both countries learn form eachother? Marco Maréchal discussed this with Janneke van der Zee from ITS Canada, Omar Choudhry from the City of Ottawa, Usha Elyatamby from Arcadis, Sonya Shorey from Invest Ottawa, Laurette Rajotte Martorana from Telus, and Thomas Bauer from Miovision. How do you create smart infrastructure, and what is the role of telecom in connected cities and innovative V2X technologies?
Today, we're continuing the Canada Binge with a crazy story from Nova Scotia. We extended the Canada Binge by one more week before we get to Willie Pickton. This week, we're covering the Marriotts and Melvins feud. Its Canada's modern day drug fueled version of the Hatfields and McCoys. The 2 families were both drug dealers, and they didn't like each other. That's basically it, although the story is crazy, and its directly tied to the Quebec Biker War. It ends with most of the key players either dead or in prison. These families have been compared to the real life Trailer Park Boys, which is actually filmed in Nova Scotia. Joining us on this episode is Morgan Rector of Human Monsters. He was a great guest, and he provided insight on some of the geography of the story. So, join us, and get ready because next week, we'll be doing Willie Pickton part 1...If I don't find another crazy Canadian story. The Hamilton Today Podcast with Scott Radley: Tiger Woods ripped the upstart LIV Golf series and its CEO, Greg Norman, during his pre-tournament press conference at the British Open on Tuesday in Scotland. Norman was not invited to celebrations for the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews this week, a decision the 15-time major winner said he agreed with. Census data shows that Canadian incomes trended higher in 2020 everywhere except in Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador, as millions benefited from pandemic supports. The agency reports that median after-tax household income was $73,000 in 2020, up 9.8 per cent compared to its last national survey five years earlier, partly driven by the losses of lower-paying jobs. The Bank of Canada increased its key interest rate by one percentage point Wednesday in the largest hike the country has seen in 24 years. Brace yourselves: Hamilton is suffering from a mysterious shortage of icing and cakes! Fallon Hewitt of the Hamilton Spectator joins us fresh from getting her 4th COVID-19 shot, to tell us what she has discovered. Royal LePage has cut its home price forecast for this year amid a series of aggressive interest rate hikes which have pushed up the cost of borrowing and cooled the demand for housing. The realtor had been forecasting that home prices across Canada would rise 15 per over the course of 2022, led by a 16.5 per cent increase in the GTA. But it now says that it expects prices in the GTA will only be up approximately three per cent by the fourth quarter of 2022. Its Canada-wide forecast calls for the average price of a home to be up about five per cent by the fourth quarter of 2022. Hamilton hospital staff have seen a rise in violence against them since the pandemic started, according to a new poll conducted for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The results of the Postmedia-Léger survey suggest Trudeau faces challenges in his continued electoral success: a majority of Canadian respondents disapprove of Justin Trudeau's performance as prime minister and feel he is a divisive leader, with almost as many hoping he resigns before the next election, according to the new public opinion survey probing the legacy of Canada's leader. Mr. Ted Michaels is getting ready to take a seat in the Hamilton Today Captain's Chair for a little while, starting tomorrow. He joins Scott Radley for a passing of the baton. It is now known 19 people have been been killed by a gunman in Nova Scotia in Canada who disguised himself as a police officer. It's Canada's deadliest mass shooting. The Canadian police have found 16 crime scenes so far, but warn the death toll could still rise. The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, says the shooting spree happened in small towns, where people have deep roots, they know their neighbours and look out for one another. The 12-hour rampage started late on Saturday and ended when the gunman was killed in a confrontation with police. Canada correspondent Laura McQuillan has been following the story.

We decided to dedicate this episode to The Great White North, so they pretty much owe us.
