Opsporing verzocht. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How can smart cities and smart mobility shape the future of urban and rural areas? These and more topics will be discussed in the upcoming conference of the ITS Canada in May 2025 in Ottawa. How far is Canada in building a smart city and smart mobility area? What specific ingredients do they need as a country? Based on the population and the geographic surrounds Canada is in. What can both countries learn form eachother? Marco Maréchal discussed this with Janneke van der Zee from ITS Canada, Omar Choudhry from the City of Ottawa, Usha Elyatamby from Arcadis, Sonya Shorey from Invest Ottawa, Laurette Rajotte Martorana from Telus, and Thomas Bauer from Miovision. How do you create smart infrastructure, and what is the role of telecom in connected cities and innovative V2X technologies? This month, we're checking in to see how the industry's doing on race equality. The stats vary, but most counts show that people of colour are still vastly under-represented in the industry, compared to the overall population mix.The disparity is even starker in the UK's many cities. For a sector struggling to fill vacancies, this seems like a big missed opportunity. For a candid assessment, we asked Dr. Roni Savage to convene a panel.Roni is black, female, and the founder and CEO of geotechnical engineering company, Jomas Associates.Joining her are Harvey Francis, Chief People Officer and Executive Vice President at Skanska UK, and TJ Jacobs, technical director for social value at Arcadis. The conversation is fast-paced and passionate, so hold onto your seats.

Balancing work and well-being is a constant challenge for many, particularly for leaders who are managing both people and organizational commitments. Well-being easily slips down the priority list when pressing accountabilities come up, and it can feel like a “nice-to-have” rather than a necessity. However, well-being is a critical foundation for productivity, engagement, collaboration, and leadership, and research increasingly shows that when this foundation is lacking, it affects the overall health of the business. In today's episode, Emma Rose is joined by Conversant consultant and partner Kell Delaney and guest Eleanor Allen. Eleanor is CEO of Catapult for Change, focusing on empowering other leaders and organizations to overcome challenges and ignite innovative ideas that enable success. Having worked across the corporate and nonprofit sectors she brings a practical but whole-hearted perspective to the question of what it takes for businesses and people to thrive. She has recently been working to bring science-based tools to organizations that support workplace experience and peak performance. You can connect with Eleanor and learn more about her work below. Eleanor Allen is a visionary catalyst for positive change, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for both people and the planet. As a humanist, environmentalist, and versatile force in corporate and nonprofit sectors, she brings a wealth of experience as a CEO, business leader, board member, technical expert, consultant, and professional engineer. Eleanor's impressive career includes leadership roles in various organizations such as CEO of B Lab Global and Water For People, Global Water Leader at Arcadis, and Latin America Water Leader at CH2M (now Jacobs). Her contributions to the engineering profession led to her induction into the National Academy of Engineering in 2020. Through her executive coaching and consulting business, Catapult For Change, Eleanor now focuses on empowering other leaders and organizations to overcome challenges and ignite innovative ideas that enable success. As a Certified Coach and registered Professional Engineer with global experience in over 50 countries, Eleanor is passionate about championing workplace well-being, organizational flourishing, and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) principles.

In this insightful episode, Alexis Haass, former Chief Sustainability Officer at Arcadis and a seasoned leader in sustainability, shares her journey and lessons learned about driving transformative change in large organizations. Reflecting on her time at Adidas, Alexis highlights the importance of having strong allies. Building relationships with leaders who share your vision can drive significant change, such as adopting 100% recycled polyester. Allies not only provide support but also help push the agenda forward when progress stalls. A critical aspect of Alexis's approach is translating vision into business language. She underscores the need to align sustainability initiatives with business objectives, crafting compelling stories that connect the larger mission with concrete outcomes. For example, Adidas's success with a shoe made from recycled ocean plastics showcased how sustainability can resonate with both the business and consumers. Alexis also stresses the importance of recalibrating your message depending on the audience and making others win. By spotlighting the contributions of others, Catalysts can build a supportive network and make change more sustainable as others take ownership of the process. Her insights serve as a powerful reminder that while the journey of a Catalyst can be challenging, strategic vision, strong allies, effective storytelling, and a focus on collective success are key to driving lasting change. It's nice to have friends in high places, and in water, there are few places higher than the presidency of the Water Environment Federation, the core trade body for the wastewater industry. Ifetayo Venner and I got to know each other in 2017 when we both spoke at the opening session of WEFTEC, WEF's annual gathering for the wastewater world, and we spoke in a cavernous room filled with about 5000 pros talking through our stories of how we got into water. Ifetayo's was a lot better than mine, and no surprise. She is an enormously accomplished professional, Past President of WEF and a Senior VP at Arcadis, the massive engineering consultancy. She has led the creation of some very serious projects in wastewater, and I wanted to have her on The Fundamental Molecule to help us understand the role of engineering consultancies in the sector, what the world looks like from her point of view, the opportunities in infrastructure renewal, and of course, her own path through all of it. She really is great. Please enjoy my conversation with Ifetayo Venner. Bowling was initially investigated by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office after a domestic violence incident on July 28, 2023, where he prevented his partner from leaving and was accused of strangling her in the presence of a child. Despite being found guilty of terroristic threats, Bowling was acquitted of other related charges following a two-day trial. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode focuses on the value of place making within construction and engineering projects. Place making is the practice of ensuring that a project goes beyond functionality and delivers something that benefits the society in which it is being constructed. It is ensuring that there is space above and around it for public use, which will bolster a community with new resources. Fitting in the requirements of a client while also providing wider benefit for the community can make place making feel like a difficult jigsaw, but it has wide-ranging knock-on effects that make it worthwhile. These include improved mental health, physical health, pride of place and economic uplift. These are long-term positives for a broad swatch of society. We've seen plenty of placemaking within cities with the likes of the Battersea and Nine Elms developments around the Northern Line extension or the creation of MediaCity at the previously derelict Salford Quay docklands. However, these types of regenerative projects can also be smaller but just as transformational in smaller locations. The guests joining NCE assistant news editor Rob Hakimian on this month's episode have plenty of experience in place making initiatives. Alex Scott-Whitby is the founder and director of Scott Whitby Studios, the architectural firm that walked away with the Place Making Initiative of the Year award at this year's British Construction Industry Awards for its Jubilee Pool project in Penzance – a project that is discussed in the podcast. Alongside Alex is Chris Short, iconic bridge director at Arcadis. Chris' work also sees him sit on Arcadis' infrastructure group, which focuses on urban development – something that he is passionate about. In this conversation, Alex and Chris discuss the importance of place making and how it should be embedded into projects. They talk specifically about the ScottWhitby Studio's Jubilee Pool and the benefits it has brought to the people of Penzance. They also discuss the makeup of the current urban landscape and how it can be redressed to better serve the public. The discussion also takes a broader view to discuss the implementation of place making; who has the responsibility to make sure it happens and what is the best way for those working on a project to bring it into a design. Lastly, they look to the future to imagine what towns and cities might look and feel like in the future if place making is instilled in all future developments.

The Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) is the U.S. Department of Defense's environmental technology demonstration and validation program. Marc's research interests are related to the design, analysis and application of remediation, waste to energy and decentralized sanitation processes. He has served as principal investigator on several DoD sponsored research projects focused on PFAS. We'll be highlighting his project ER20-5350, titled "Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) for complete PFAS Destruction." SCWO is a treatment technology that uses the unique properties of water above its critical point (704 °F and 3200 pounds per square inch). At these conditions, when air is injected, all organics are rapidly oxidized to carbon dioxide and water - including PFAS. This technology has shown promise as a destructive technique for PFAS in water. Dr. Theresa Guillette, PFAS Technical Expert with Arcadis North America will be our host today. All opinions, interpretations, and conclusions expressed belong to the hosts and guests and do not represent views or policies of the Department of Defense, Arcadis, or guest affiliations.
In this episode of Better Cities by Design, Neil Arckless, Group Executive for Development at Lendlease is our guest. We talk with Neil about the sustainable redevelopment of Darling Square in Sydney, Australia. Darling Square, which is part of the Darling Harbour section of the Australian capital, has a rich history. This area was originally home to the Aboriginal people, the Gadigal, who lived on this land for thousands of years and continue to play an important role in Sydney. In the 1900s, Darling Harbour was an industrial zone, which was later converted into public space. This happened in the 1980s, at a time when the area had essentially been abandoned. As a result, a pedestrian and tourist precinct was established. Darling Harbour also hosted part of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. But over the ensuing decade, Darling Harbour had once again lost its luster and was no longer adequately serving the people of Sydney. And this led to a second redevelopment, led by Lendlease, with support from Arcadis.Join Host Davion Ford and Neil, as they chat about the extraordinarily sustainable transformation of Darling Square from an underused part of Sydney, into a vibrant, mixed-use area, with residential, business, and commercial space for more than 4200 people. Neil talks about what led to the need to redevelop the area and how Lendlease approached this effort with an eye toward creating a space that residents could take ownership of. Neil discusses the complex task of carrying out the regeneration within the central business district, without fundamentally disrupting city life and how this is one of most walkable and highly rated sustainability projects ever delivered in Australia.

CTL Script/ Top Stories of July 15 Saturday Publish Date: July 14 Friday Henssler :15 From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Award Winning Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast Today is Saturday, July 15th, and happy 67th birthday to guitarist Joe Satriani ***Satriani*** I'm Brian Giffin and here are the stories Cherokee is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia Start of eligibility ‘redetermination' knocks almost 100,000 Georgians off Medicaid Georgia reports giant budget surplus despite June revenue drop And a Canton woman and teen charged with string of car break-ins We'll have all this and more coming up on the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger Podcast Commercial: CU of GA Story 1. charges Since the expiration of the federal public health emergency in April, nearly 100,000 people in Georgia have lost their Medicaid coverage, according to the Department of Community Health. The federal government had prohibited the disenrollment of Medicaid recipients for three years during the pandemic. Georgia began reassessing eligibility for Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids in June, resulting in 95,578 individuals losing coverage, while 64,423 were renewed. The majority lost coverage due to procedural termination caused by a lack of information. The state aims to complete the redetermination process for all Medicaid enrollees by May 2024 and has implemented an information campaign to assist recipients. ....……… Read more on this story at tribuneledgernews.com STORY 2: surplus Georgia tax collections in June 2023 dropped slightly compared to the previous year, but the state ended fiscal 2023 with a significant surplus for the third consecutive year. The Georgia Department of Revenue collected $2.84 billion in taxes in June, a 0.4% decrease from the same month in the previous year. However, the total revenue for the entire fiscal year reached $33.13 billion, surpassing Governor Brian Kemp's revenue estimate of $28.4 billion, resulting in a surplus of nearly $4.8 billion. While individual income taxes decreased by 12.6% due to increased refunds, net sales tax collections increased by 4%. Corporate income tax receipts declined by 14.7% due to higher refunds for businesses. The surplus will trigger a debate on how to allocate the funds, with Kemp advocating for a conservative approach and using the surplus to fund income tax cuts. Critics argue that these cuts primarily benefit the wealthy and that the state should prioritize funding public education, healthcare, and economic mobility. Story 3: canton A woman and her 13-year-old stepson were arrested in Canton for allegedly breaking into numerous cars in the area. The Canton Police Department responded to multiple reports of car break-ins, with a total of 26 incidents reported. Some cars were unlocked, while others were forcibly entered. Blood found inside the vehicles was collected as evidence. Witnesses saw a red vehicle leaving the area, and later, the woman and teenager were found unconscious in a red car in a shopping center parking lot.
