Connie's motivational quotes for today is by – Jeff Bezos, “A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn a reputation by trying to do hard things well.” YouTube: https://youtu.be/BC3hDtVa928 Check Out These Highlights: I am fascinated as I observe the power of businesses with a clear brand and how they are able to attract the right people into their community. Being in business for 20 years my brand was outdated and needed a facelift, to say the least. I had to vet multiple branding experts before choosing the right fit for me. As a business owner, it is so hard to stay on top of everything we need to do to promote and support our business growth. So what do we do and how do we stay relevant and on-brand? About Kim Speed: She is a brand visibility expert, a speaker, a trainer, a recipient of the 2019 Most Influential Business Woman in Brand Development. She's also an Amazon best-selling author of “Branding on a Shoestring: How to Re-Create Your Small Business Identity and Increase Sales Results in 83 Days or Less”. In this episode, Jennie and Kim discuss:The difference between brand and brandingKnowing who you serve Creating your own one-liner Communicate your difference Key Takeaways:A brand is what you stand for, your belief, your values, and your reputation. Branding is how you communicate that reputation, be it through your logo, your font, your colors and the like. You're not gonna sell to everyone. Take some time to identify and define who it is you want to serve and communicate that inwardly and outwardly. Create your own one-liner when someone asks you what you do. Talk about your ideal client, what you do for the people you serve, and how they benefit from your business. Don't kill the conversation by stating your “job title” plainly, in a boring way. Find something that will make you stand out from the others in your field. It doesn't have to be a big thing, it could be something seemingly small, just as long as it's different. Communicate that difference and be memorable. "You are one in a sea of many, so you still have to go out there and let people know who you are. You can't hide behind your computer, you can't hide in a crowd. If you want to make sales, you gotta let people know who you are." — Kim SpeedSign up to receive your FREE downloadable copy of Branding on a Shoestring by clicking on this link: http://brandingonashoestringbook.com/ Connect with Kim Speed:Twitter: https://twitter.com/speedk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BrandVisibilityExpert/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brandvisibilityexpert/ Website: https://purplemooncreative.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimspeed/ Email: kspeed@purplemooncreative.com CONNECT WITH JENNIE:Twitter: https://twitter.com/jenniebplFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/badassdirectsalesmastery/app/307339332686535/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/badassdirectsalesmastery/Website: https://badassdirectsalesmastery.com/ Show: https://badassdirectsalesmastery.com/blog/Email: jennie@badassdirectsalesmastery.com Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. On Today's Podcast This week I sit down with Kim Speed. In 2009, Kim started her own business, Purple Moon Creative, Brand and Marketing Boutique, where she shares her brand expertise and business knowledge with growing entrepreneurs. Kim helps them create successful companies turning their knowledge, skills, and talents into income while making an impact. But before Kim became an entrepreneur, Kim worked as a graphic designer, art director, and creative director during her years in the corporate world and has worked with clients from around the globe, including Coca-Cola, TD Bank, Ford, and Molson Coors. It was never Kim's dream to start her own business. That happened by accident after her company downsized and laid her off. If it weren't for that opportunity, she would never have started her entrepreneurial journey. Once Kim removed her corporate blinders, she knew she no longer wanted to return to a full-time job. Kim had a taste of life with her family and decided to never again miss another school concert or track day for meetings. But who knew the courage it took to be an entrepreneur? With her experience and connections, Kim thought that starting a small business would be a much simpler journey. She was learning that becoming a business owner is one of the bravest things anyone could do. After going through the struggles and fears of leaving the comfort of a steady paying job, learning (sometimes the hard way) how to develop and maintain a business that supports your life and your dreams. Kim became the one-person show, doing everything from business development, production team, tech support, admin, and the cleaning service. There was so much more to running a company, taking care of clients while maintaining life with your family. As she continued to learn and grow with the help of coaches and mentors, her business started to become profitable. Success came when Kim finally allowed herself to let go of the employee mentality and put her hand up to ask for help. That is why Kim is so passionate about helping budding, and building entrepreneurs create businesses that become profitable without giving up the other things that bring joy to your life. Why Do I Need a Brand? In this episode I and Brand expert,Kim Speed dig deep into the question why do I need a brand. Everyone says having a brand is critical for success. But is it? What is the fundamental value a BRAND provides you and your company? How does a brand make it easier for me to acquire new customers and prospects? Brand vs Branding According to Kim, your brand is who you are and what people say about you when you’re not in the room. Branding is all the elements that supports your brand: website, ads, emails, logos etc… Let’s focus on the former, before the latter. Sales and Branding Your brand is useful for your sales process. When done well it open doors and creates trust. But it’s not an easy path to understand your brand. It’s built on knowing and viscerally understanding your ideal client. This requires companies to go through a value proposition process. Instead of focusing on logos and fonts, focus on who is PERFECT for you product or service.
