In Episode 35 Sonal Aggarwal, world traveler and Chicago based comedian, sat down to talk about The Descent with your host Kristin Lytie. The two quickly realized it was not quite the film they remembered loving as young women. However in that moment Sonal stressed her fondness of remembering the first time she viewed The Descent. She also explored her ability to appreciate things she doesn't like and value the artistic labor that went into them, even the worst head crushing scene. She's zen as fuck if you hadn't noticed. Within this film there is are very strong themes of hurtful competition among women, women being brutalized for standing up to power, and women also being brutalized for ..being funny? And ladies, don't forget to apologize! Sonal also shared stories of her own spelunking which made Kristin deeply uncomfortable. The Skewer closes out 2017, the worst year, with another delightful edition. Check it out as Kristin Lytie channels a DoL rep to bemoan the state of labor in modern America, Tyler Snodgrass runs through the deal with Michael Flynn and all connected morons, Angela Vela reviewed the frustratingly litigation-free world of extremely negligent hunting accidents, and Erika Price takes the misinformation out of the imminent loss of net neutrality. And in the Skewer debate, erica dreisbach took on Ashley Ray-Harris to figure out 2017's best plan of attack in the SJW War on Christmas. Plus, of course, host Tom Harrison and a fake news quiz from Kevin Johnson. As awful as 2017 was overall, we can't overstate how fun a year it was at the Skewer. Thanks for listening and see you in February!
We had the totally great Kristin Lytie (@KristinLytie, Beast Village Comedy Festival, Spaceship Comedy) and also the awesome Molly Dean (@WLDbrryHashTart, The Freakin' A's, Comedy On Fire) on the Golden Girls podcast! Hooray! We watched the one where Dorothy is fixated on a Beatles cover band and she falls in love with a George Harrison impersonator. Also, Blanche starts dating a guy that will doesn't want to have sex with her at all and Blanche basically explodes. We talked about matchmaker murders, childhood waterbeds with mirrors on the ceiling and Beatles songs during manic episodes. Music by Mike Dennison (@mikd33) and Brian Kokernak (@kokernutz). Full disclosure: Sound isn't perfect, it happens sometimes when half of you are somewhere else. Also remember, we do this free.
