Prepare the Way of the Lamb (John 1:19-34) | 121723 by One Ancient Hope Presbyterian Church
Speaker: Andrew De Juan
In this series we consider what the Bible says about The Spirit World; how to seek God and how God seeks us; and we look at the spiritual warfare. And from the Names of Christ series: ‘Regardless of where we were born, what language we speak, whether we are high or low in the worlds eyes, even if we cannot read or write, whether we are the richest or poorest person on earth, if from any part of the earth we turn to Jesus and trust in him he is able to save us from our sins, because he is the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world.'
Once again we come to text of the Bible that is taken out of its historical context. Once again we are surrounded by childish ideas of the Scapegoat and what the term עֲזָאזֵל Azazel means. It is not a name. And Jewish scholars agree that the scapegoat is NOT a sacrifice. It does nothing for the person - does not forgive sin - at all. So what is it? On top of that Jesus says in John 5:39 the following ... "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; ..." (Joh 5:39) OK - God says sometime between 24-30 A.D. that Scripture testifies of Jesus. All they had was the Hebrew Scriptures the Old Testament and the Torah, the first five books of the Bible were the foundation of the Bible. Does the Scapegoat, עֲזָאזֵל Azazel, testify of Messiah Yeshua, Jesus the Christ? Does the Scapegoat, עֲזָאזֵל Azazel, shows us the Lord? Wait till you see!! Rev. Ferret - who is this guy? What's his background? Why should I listen to him? Check his background at this link - https://www.dropbox.com/s/ortnret3oxcicu4/BackgrndTeacher%20mar%2025%202020.pdf?dl=0
In today's episode, we hone in on a statement that John makes in v. 29 and once again in v. 36. John cries out: Behold the Lamb! This is what John was sent to do, to bear witness of Christ. He declares that Jesus came to take away the sin of the world. He told those present that day, he had been sent to baptize with water, but he was also told how to recognize the Messiah when he saw Him. John bore record of how this all took place, and it still stands as a testimony for us today. In our Q&A segment, we were asked the following question: What about all of the contradictions in the Bible? There is one specifically on the age of a king that I have heard some about. We believe this powerful episode will bring you great joy!

Sermon for the Second Sunday after the Epiphany (A) Sunday, 15 January A+D 2023 Rev. Matthew D. Ruesch
Why does John the Baptist delight in pointing his own disciples to Jesus? What does John understand about Jesus that others had not grasped yet? And just why does the Holy Spirit come to rest upon Jesus at his baptism? Father Jeremiah considers these things in his sermon for the Second Sunday of Epiphany.Image: San Giovanni che indica il Cristo a Sant'Andrea, by Ottavio Vannini (1585-c. 1643), Public domain, via Wikimedia CommonsLocation: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ottavio_vannini,_san_giovanni_che_indica_il_Cristo_a_Sant%27Andrea.jpg

When you read the Bible it's important to read with a heart that wants to learn. One question, among many, to ask as you read the Bible is "What can I learn about God from this passage?" Let's ask that of the passage as we learn of God from the Lamb.
1. Look away from the servant in the lime-light… (v19-28) 3 deflected questions: - Who do you think you are? - Who do you think you are? - What do you think you're doing? Background: A voice preparing the way for God (Isa 40:1-5)2. …And look at the life-giving lamb (v29-34) 3 destiny-shaping answers: - Lamb - Lord - Life-GiverBackground: The Spirit-filled Messiah (Isa 11:2, 42:1, 61:1)
Dear OBC Family, Over the past few weeks, we have turned our eyes to the cross as we look through the Scriptures to see how they point us to Jesus and his finished work. The ram substituted for Isaac in Genesis 22, the Passover lamb of Exodus 12-13, and the Day of Atonement of Leviticus 16 all point us forward to Christ's cross. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, the once-and-for all sacrifice, and the substitutionary atonement for our sins. This Sunday we will consider a variation on this theme, as we consider Christ our Shepherd. We know what it is to go astray, to be where we should not be, and be entangled or ensnared in sin. Some of us are hungry, for we have chosen poor pastures, which sicken instead of nourishing our souls with truth. You may feel lost, threatened, harassed, or helpless. Yet we have great hope, for God is our shepherd. This Sunday we will consider different moments in redemptive history throughout the Scriptures, and turn our eyes to Christ our Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his flock. He is our Shepherd-King, and he is the Shepherd-Lamb. I invite you to read John 10:1-30 in advance of this Sunday, and join us as we gather for worship at 8:30 and 11:00am. Blessings in Christ, Pastor Ben ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. How do you see God shepherding his covenant people throughout the Scriptures? 2. What are the responsibilities of a shepherd? 3. How do the shepherds of the Old Testament point forward to Christ (positively, and negatively)? 4. What does it mean that Jesus is the Good Shepherd? How is Jesus better than the shepherds who came before him? How is Jesus the true answer to Moses' prayer in Numbers 27:17? 5. How does Jesus shepherd the church today? 6. What promises are true for Christ's sheep? 7. How does Scripture instruct us in how to identify threats to the flock today? (False teachers, wolves, etc). What do they look like? 8. What are the means by which God shepherds his people today, and how have you seen the Lord shepherd you? 9. What is the significance of the change in language in Revelation (from shepherd to Lamb?) 10. As a sheep in Christ's flock, how should we respond to Christ's shepherding?
The Shepherd and the Lamb- John 10:11-21 Sermon by Tim Harris, Senior Pastor Woodburn Baptist Church, Woodburn, KY www.woodburnbaptist.org
Pastor Shane Jackson, live from Landrum Independent Baptist Church.
At the beginning of Jesus' public ministry, God began to openly reveal the true identity of his Son. He spoke to John the Baptist of who this man Jesus of Nazareth truly was. And John testified of his identity: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” What a strange unveiling! The long awaited Messiah, the Savior of God's people, announced as a lamb. Jesus was a lamb. This is a very different kind of savior. In this world, we are caught in our grasping for control, our quests for vinication, our struggles for power. And we look for salvation in strength. Who is fierce enough to come to our aid, to conquer? But God sends a lamb. Because God knows the salvation we long for is not the one we need. He did not come to teach us to roar like lions. He came to teach us to die like lambs. He came to make us into who we truly are.
