In this sermon, Karl Ihfe begins a new series called "The Heart of a King," focusing on David's life and what made him "a man after God's own heart" (Acts 13:22). He emphasizes that while David was gifted in many ways, it was his heart that drew God to him. Karl highlights three key characteristics of David's heart: 1. Wild abandon to God: David worshipped with unbridled passion, as seen in his dancing before the Ark (2 Samuel 6). 2. Deep reflection: David spent time alone with God, pondering and considering, as evidenced in many Psalms (e.g., Psalm 139:23-24). 3. Stubborn love: David loved persistently, even towards those who wronged him, like Saul and Absalom. Karl encourages the congregation to cultivate these heart qualities, reminding them that God looks at the heart, not outward appearances (1 Samuel 16:7). https://bwaychurch.org

Wonderfully, the theme of Psalm 17 is Jesus Christ.  Although it is not specifically a Messianic Psalm, it is a psalm that looks forward to the time when we will be able to see God face-to-face… David wrote Psalm 18 before his sin with Bathsheba.  The one thing you cannot miss is just how grateful to God David is at this point in his life.  But we know a time is coming when David will lose that sense of gratitude.  You see, a grateful man doesn't commit adultery-  Or murder.  When we lose our passion, our gratitude toward God, we are all capable of terrible sin.  I include this only as a warning to all of us here tonight.  This is when David's heart was full of God…

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 30:1-8 Everyone draws strength from somewhere outside themselves.  The poet was right when he said, "No man is an island."  Situations confront us every day that demand a wisdom and strength beyond the resources of our own mind and heart.  Some people turn to horoscopes for help … or psychics.  Others read the usually-shallow and always-oversimplified advice in self-help books.  Some take pills to help them deal with trouble.  Many people try to bury their pain beneath an avalanche of amusements. In a raid by the Amalekites, David's wives were kidnapped along with the capture of the wives and children of his men.  David and his men wept until they could not weep anymore    (1 Sam 30:4).  In response to this calamity, David did what people of deep faith do … he turned to the living God.  "David strengthened Himself in the LORD his God . . . David inquired of the LORD" (1 Sam 30:6,8).  We must seek the same God David sought.  In all our heartaches, we must fly to Him for mercy and strength.  The power of God is infinite … the mercy of God is unfailing … and the promises of God are utterly reliable.  "This is God, our God forever and ever.  He will guide us over death" (Psa 48:14).  "But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth" (Jn 16:13).  "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor 12:9).

Welcome to Day 2508 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2508 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 35:1-10 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2508 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2508 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we'll be exploring Psalm 35:1-10 from the New Living Translation. This passage is a powerful prayer from David, asking God to intervene in the face of injustice and persecution. It's a raw, heartfelt plea for divine protection and deliverance, yet it also reflects deep trust in God's justice and sovereignty. As we go through these verses, we'll see David's honest emotions, his reliance on God, and his commitment to praise God for deliverance. Let's read Psalm 35:1-10 together: Psalm 35:1-10 (NLT) 1 O Lord, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight against me. 2 Put on your armor, and take up your shield. Prepare for battle, and come to my aid. 3 Lift up your spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Let me hear you say, “I will give you victory!” 4 Bring shame and disgrace on those trying to kill me; turn them back and humiliate those who want to harm me. 5 Blow them away like chaff in the wind— a wind sent by the angel of the Lord. 6 Make their path dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them. 7 I did them no wrong, but they laid a trap for me. I did them no wrong, but they dug a pit to catch me. 8 So let sudden ruin come upon them! Let them be caught in the trap they set for me; let them be destroyed in the pit they dug for me. 9 Then I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be glad because he rescues me. 10 With every bone in my body I will praise him: “Lord, who can compare with you? Who else rescues the helpless from the strong? Who else protects the helpless and poor from those who rob them?” A Call for Divine Intervention (Verses 1-3): David begins this psalm in Verse 1 with a direct and urgent appeal: “O Lord, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight against me.” This is not just a plea for help; it's a call for God to act as a defender and warrior on David's behalf. David is facing enemies who seek to harm him, and instead of taking matters into his own hands, he turns to God for deliverance. In verses 2 and 3, David uses imagery of battle: “Put on your armor, and take up your shield. Prepare for battle, and come to my aid. Lift up your spear and javelin against those who pursue me.” This vivid language paints God as a divine warrior, fully equipped and ready to fight for His people. David's words reflect his deep faith and recognition that ultimate victory comes from God alone. The plea, “Let me hear you say, ‘I will give you victory!'” reveals David's desire for assurance. He's asking for God's action and the comfort of hearing God's promise of deliverance. This request reflects a deeply personal relationship with God—David wants to know...

1 Timothy 2:5 says, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." How much is contained in this statement! First, there is one God. This seems like an odd statement when we consider all the religions in the world. How can this be? Secondly, this verse tells us about one go-between - between man and God - and that person is the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you know Him? Have you ever stopped and received this great gift of reconciliation that God so freely offers?

Psalms 145: A Reflection on God's Majesty, Goodness, and Faithfulness Psalm 145 is a song of praise written by King David. It stands out as a psalm that celebrates the greatness, goodness, and faithfulness of God. The psalm expresses awe at God's sovereignty, His care for creation, and His enduring kindness to all people. As an acrostic poem (each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet), Psalm 145 is structured as a comprehensive hymn of praise, inviting reflection on God's many attributes. Verses 1-3: The Majesty and Greatness of God David begins the psalm by declaring his intention to exalt and praise God forever. He acknowledges that God is worthy of endless praise because His greatness is beyond human comprehension. •“I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.” •“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom.” Here, David sets the tone of the psalm by emphasizing God's infinite nature, inviting ongoing and eternal worship. He makes it clear that God's greatness is not limited or fully understood by human minds. Verses 4-7: God's Deeds and Wonders These verses highlight the importance of sharing stories of God's mighty acts across generations. David points out that each generation has the responsibility to declare God's mighty works, ensuring that His miracles and wondrous deeds are remembered. •“One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.” •“They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.” The emphasis on generational worship reflects the idea that God's goodness is not just a historical truth but an ongoing reality that should be celebrated by all. Verses 8-9: God's Compassion and Love David then focuses on the character of God, particularly His mercy, compassion, patience, and love. He highlights God's readiness to forgive and show kindness to all creation. •“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.” •“The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made.” These verses emphasize God's goodness, not just to those who are faithful, but to all of His creation, underscoring His universal care and love. Verses 10-13: The Kingdom of God In these verses, David turns to reflect on God's kingdom, describing it as eternal and glorious. All creation joins in praising God and recognizing His reign over everything. •“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations.” •“They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might.” David celebrates the eternal nature of God's kingdom, pointing to the idea that God's sovereignty extends beyond time and human authority. God's kingdom is a source of security and hope for all people. Verses 14-16: God's Care for the Needy David highlights God's compassion toward those who are struggling, stating that God upholds the weak and provides for all living things. These verses show God's attentiveness to those in need and His role as a provider. •“The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.” •“The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.” This passage paints a picture of a God who is not distant, but intimately involved in providing for the needs of His creation. Verses 17-20: God's Righteousness and Faithfulness David continues to celebrate God's faithfulness, noting that God is righteous in all His ways and near to those who call on Him with sincerity. He assures the reader that God hears the prayers of His people and fulfills their needs. •“The Lord is righteous in all His ways and faithful in all He does.” •“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” God's faithfulness is contrasted with human frailty, showing that while people may fail, God's promises endure. He is described as being close to the brokenhearted and the righteous. Verses 21: Eternal Praise David concludes Psalm 145 with a commitment to continue praising God forever, inviting all people to join in glorifying God's holy name. •“My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord. Let every creature praise His holy name for ever and ever.” The psalm ends on a note of universal praise, emphasizing that all of creation is called to glorify God. Key Themes of Psalm 145: 1.God's Greatness: David emphasizes that God's greatness is beyond human understanding, inspiring awe and worship. 2.Generational Praise: The psalm underscores the importance of passing on the knowledge of God's mighty deeds and character from one generation to the next. 3.God's Compassion and Mercy: The psalm speaks repeatedly of God's compassion, love, and grace, which extend to all people and creation. 4.God's Provision: Psalm 145 paints God as the provider for all living things, showing His care for both physical and spiritual needs. 5.God's Eternal Kingdom: The psalm celebrates God's eternal rule, describing His kingdom as everlasting and filled with glory. 6.Faithfulness and Righteousness: David points to God's unwavering faithfulness and righteousness, offering assurance that God is near to all who call on Him sincerely. Conclusion: Psalm 145 is a profound reflection on the majesty, goodness, and faithfulness of God. It calls believers to worship, not only because of what God has done but because of who He is—gracious, compassionate, and faithful. The psalm inspires worship and trust, reminding readers that God's care is all-encompassing, extending from the grandeur of His kingdom to the most personal needs of His creation.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

Psalm 142 is a prayer of David, expressing deep distress and seeking God's help during a time of trouble. It is often titled “A Maskil of David. When he was in the cave,” indicating it was written when David was hiding from King Saul, who was seeking to kill him. Key Themes of Psalm 142: 1.Crying Out to God: In this psalm, David begins by crying out to the Lord, seeking His mercy and intervention. The first verse reflects a raw and vulnerable emotional state: “I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy.” David is not merely praying quietly; his cries are desperate, highlighting the intensity of his need. 2.Total Dependence on God: David recognizes that no one else can help him in his time of need. He feels isolated, abandoned, and without human support, yet he places his trust entirely in the Lord: “Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.” This passage reflects David's recognition that only God can truly deliver him. 3.Despair and Persecution: David is in a state of despair, likely caused by the relentless pursuit of King Saul. His enemies have overwhelmed him, and he feels trapped, as if they have set a snare for him: “In the path where I walk, people have hidden a snare for me.” The imagery here shows how dangerous and desperate his situation is, with enemies laying traps in his path. 4.Seeking Deliverance: Despite his feelings of abandonment, David holds on to hope and seeks deliverance from God. He prays not just for rescue but also for God to lead him out of his current predicament so that he can once again give thanks and praise: “Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name.” David's ultimate goal is to glorify God even in the midst of his trial. 5.Anticipation of Future Restoration: The psalm ends with David expressing hope that once God delivers him, the righteous will gather around him, a sign that he will be restored to community and fellowship: “Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.” Reflection: Psalm 142 teaches us about the importance of turning to God in moments of distress and despair. David's honesty before God is a reminder that we can bring all our troubles and fears before the Lord, no matter how overwhelming they may seem. It also encourages faith that even in the darkest times, God hears, cares, and has the power to deliver us. This psalm can be a source of comfort for anyone feeling trapped, alone, or abandoned, reminding them that God is a refuge and ever-present help in times of trouble.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

Welcome to Day 2437 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 16:7-11 Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2437 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2437 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we're diving into the second half of Psalm 16, specifically verses 7 through 11, from the New Living Translation. This portion of the Psalm continues David's expression of trust and joy in God, and it beautifully encapsulates themes of guidance, joy, security, and eternal life. Let's explore these verses and uncover the profound truths they hold for us today. Psalm 16:7-11 (NLT): 7 I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. 9 No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. 10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. 11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Guidance from God: David begins this section by expressing his gratitude for God's guidance: “I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me” (verse 7). This verse highlights the constant and intimate guidance that God provides. David acknowledges that God's wisdom and direction are not limited to specific times or circumstances but are available even in the stillness of the night. This guidance is not just intellectual but also heartfelt. David's heart instructs him because it is attuned to God's wisdom. For us today, this verse serves as a reminder that God's guidance is always available if we seek it. Whether through prayer, scripture, or the prompting of the Holy Spirit, God is eager to lead us on the right path. We should cultivate a sensitivity to His direction, allowing Him to instruct our hearts even in our quiet moments. Presence and Stability: In verse 8, David declares, “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” This powerful statement reflects David's unwavering confidence in God's presence. The assurance of God's nearness brings stability and strength, enabling David to face any challenge without fear. This verse speaks to the profound truth that God's presence is a constant source of support. When we acknowledge that God is always with us, we can remain steadfast and unshaken, regardless of our circumstances. The knowledge that God is right beside us, guiding and protecting us, provides a foundation of security and peace. Imagine facing life's difficulties with the confidence that the Creator of the universe is by your side. This truth transforms our perspective, enabling us to confront challenges with courage and assurance. We can draw strength from God's presence, knowing we are never alone. Joy and Rest: David continues in verse 9, “No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.” The recognition of God's constant presence fills...

This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 16:1-6 Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2435 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2435 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we're diving into Psalm 16:1-6 from the New Living Translation. This Psalm, attributed to David, is a beautiful expression of trust and confidence in God's protection and provision. As we read through these verses, we'll explore the themes of refuge, loyalty, joy, and inheritance. Let's embark on this journey together. Psalm 16:1-6 (NLT): 1 Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. 2 I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” 3 The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! 4 Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods. 5 Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. 6 The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! Seeking Refuge in God: David begins this Psalm with a heartfelt plea in verse 1: “Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.” This opening line sets the tone for the entire Psalm, establishing a foundation of trust and dependence on God. David acknowledges his vulnerability and recognizes that true safety and security come from seeking refuge in the Lord. This sentiment resonates with us today, reminding us that we can find shelter and protection in times of uncertainty and danger in God. The concept of refuge is not merely about physical safety; it encompasses spiritual and emotional security as well. When we turn to God, we find a sanctuary for our souls, a place where we are shielded from the storms of life. This assurance allows us to face challenges with confidence, knowing that we are under the care of a loving and powerful God. Acknowledging God's Sovereignty: In verse 2, David declares, “I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.'” This statement is a profound acknowledgment of God's sovereignty and generosity. By referring to God as his Master, David is expressing his submission and devotion. He recognizes that all the blessings in his life are gifts from God. This verse invites us to reflect on our own lives and recognize God's hand in the good things we experience. It's easy to take our blessings for granted or attribute them to our own efforts, but David's words remind us to give credit where it's due. Every good and perfect gift comes from above, and acknowledging this truth fosters a heart of gratitude and humility. Finding Joy in God's People: David continues in verse 3, “The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them!” Here, David shifts his focus to the community of believers. He finds joy and inspiration in the company of those who live righteously. The godly people are his...

Welcome to Day 2432 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 14:1-7 Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2432 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2432 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we'll delve into the powerful and thought-provoking Psalm 14 from the New Living Translation. This Psalm, attributed to David, provides a vivid portrayal of humanity's folly and the hope found in God's salvation. As we read through Psalm 14:1-7, we'll explore the depths of human nature and the assurance of God's deliverance. Let's embark on this journey together. Psalm 14:1-7 (NLT): 1 Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! 2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. 3 But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one! 4 Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn't think of praying to the Lord. 5 Terror will grip them, for God is with those who obey him. 6 The wicked frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the Lord will protect his people. 7 Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? When the Lord restores his people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice. The Fool's Denial of God: David begins Psalm 14 with a stark declaration: “Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.' They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!” (verse 1). This opening verse sets the tone for the entire Psalm, emphasizing the folly of denying God's existence. David uses the term “fools” not to describe a lack of intelligence but a moral deficiency. The fool, in this context, is someone who lives as though there is no accountability to a higher power. This denial leads to corruption and evil actions. When one rejects the foundational truth of God's existence, moral decay follows. This verse challenges us to consider the importance of acknowledging God in our lives and the moral implications of our beliefs. God's Search for the Righteous: In verses 2 and 3, David paints a picture of God's perspective: “The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!” Here, we see God's active involvement in human affairs. He searches for those who are wise and seek Him. However, the verdict is bleak—everyone has turned away, and no one does good. This universal statement highlights the pervasive nature of sin and the universal need for redemption. It echoes the sentiment found in Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.” These verses...

David was no perfect man, but he returned to the Lord time and again to find grace. In contrast, Saul went his own way and never repented. He wanted God's benefits but not God's rule in His life. In 1 Samuel 28 and 30, we see the contrast between a man who is faithful in his pursuit of God (David) and a man who, in the end, has found himself abandoned by God in his unrepentance. Pastor Doug preaches a message titled, "Faithful in the Pursuit of God."

Psalm 86 is a heartfelt prayer of David, expressing his deep need for God's mercy and help. It reflects David's humility and trust in God's power and goodness, and it can be divided into several key themes: 1.Request for Mercy and Protection (Verses 1-7): •David begins by asking God to listen to his prayer, emphasizing his own poverty and neediness. He acknowledges his reliance on God's steadfast love and seeks preservation of his life, indicating his commitment to God by calling himself a servant. David's plea is earnest, repeated throughout the day, reflecting his persistent faith and trust in God's responsiveness to those who call upon Him. 2.Declaration of God's Unique Greatness (Verses 8-10): •David extols God's incomparability among the gods, highlighting His great works and deeds. He acknowledges that all nations will ultimately worship God, recognizing His sovereignty and the ultimate recognition of His glory by all peoples. This section underscores God's uniqueness and supreme authority over all creation. 3.Personal Commitment and Trust (Verses 11-13): •David asks God to teach him His ways, desiring a heart united in reverence and truth. He expresses his determination to walk in God's truth and praises God for His great love and deliverance from the depths of Sheol, signifying David's profound gratitude for God's salvation and faithfulness. 4.Appeal for Divine Intervention (Verses 14-17): •The psalm concludes with David's plea for God to intervene against his arrogant foes who seek to harm him. He contrasts their wickedness with God's compassionate and gracious nature. David asks for a sign of God's favor, seeking reassurance of God's continued support and the shaming of his enemies through God's evident help and comfort. Key Takeaways: •Dependence on God: David's acknowledgment of his neediness and his appeal for God's mercy underscore the importance of recognizing our own limitations and the necessity of divine assistance. •God's Uniqueness and Sovereignty: The psalm highlights God's unparalleled nature and ultimate authority, reminding believers of the greatness and holiness of the One they serve. •Faithfulness in Adversity: David's trust in God despite his troubles serves as a model for maintaining faith and seeking God's guidance and protection during difficult times. •Prayer as a Lifeline: The continuous and earnest nature of David's prayer reflects the vital role of communication with God in the life of a believer. Psalm 86 is a powerful expression of trust, praise, and supplication, offering a profound example of how to approach God with our needs, worship Him for His greatness, and remain faithful in seeking His guidance and deliverance.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.     ACU Endorsed Charities -------------------------------------------------------- Pre-Born!
