Il y a un adage bien connu dans l'univers du dating. Le fameux “if he wanted to he would” (traduction : “s”il le voulait vraiment, il le ferait”). ✨ Liens cités dans l'épisode : Le livre cité par Aline en début d'épisode : “He's not just that into you” de de Greg Behrendt et Liz Tuccillo : https://amzn.to/3L2tQRL —————————————

Somehow through blind charm, coercion, connections, and sheer luck, Greg Behrendt – the man who changed my life in my twenties — agreed to join The Dishmaster Does Things for a one-on-one interview, and I'm still buzzing with excitement. Tune in to hear him discuss the origin of the iconic book he co-wrote with Liz Tuccillo, 'He's Just Not That Into You' (and how it landed on Oprah's desk), his time in the 'Sex and the City' writers' room, his origin story as a writer/stand-up comic, and so many other nuggets of dating wisdom.  (This is a good one, guys).

I am joined with a special guest as we discuss dating rejections and double standards between men and women. To pursue a woman, but not to the point she feels smothered. Do we hold men at a different standard? Ladies can we use a phone? How many times does someone have to say "I'm not interested", before the other party realizes it's not code for "challenge". “The Read-Through” premiered on March 5, 2013. It was written by Liz Tuccillo, and directed by David Petrarca, both in their Smash debuts. The episode premiered to a viewership of 2.68 million this week, down .36 mil from the previous episode. We didn’t have a whole lot of music this week, despite hearing the read-throughs of two different shows. We saw a Bombshell fantasy Act 2 opener, complete with tap break, called “Public Relations” by Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and a snippet of Hit List’s “Caught in the Storm” by Pasek and Paul, Jeremy Jordan rendition. We also saw a fantasy sequence to a cover of “Some Boys” originally by Death Cab For Cutie.  Bombshell has booked the Belasco! In a walkthrough of their new home, Tom imagines a new second act opener for Bombshell called “Public Relations” which looks remarkably like a song from Catch Me If You Can, down to the plane set and stewardess. Now finishing each other’s sandwiches, Julia and Peter stroll in late to the walkthrough late but thrilled with the new script draft they’ve created together.  Despite multiple sexual misconduct allegations, Derek has friends in high enough places to get Hit List a spot in the “Winter Fringe Festival.” But with the Festival in just two weeks, Karen and Ana rally Bobby, Jessica and the rest of their ensemblist cohorts join for a read through where they learn that while Jimmy's music is great, Kyle’s dialogue and the characters… aren’t. But after their failed reading, Jimmy, Kyle, Ana and Karen crack the code that could turn into a success: scrap the book scenes and make the show sung through.  A week into rehearsal for the Broadway revival of Liaisons, Ivy finally meets her co-star Terry Falls. But Terry doesn’t even know his stage left from his stage right, turning “a real drama into Spamalot!” However, Ivy will have none of it - refusing to stoop to conquer and teaching Terry how to act in the process.  Ahead of a reading of the new Bombshell script, Julia hears rumors that Peter has purposefully upended other shows by feeding the writers ideas bad enough to be fired. But despite those rumors, the reading goes off swimmingly with all parties impressed by the rewrites. So much so that Derek halts his plans to take Hit List to the fringe after all.  It’s an artistic triumph, but their new producer Jerry Rand says it’s not commercial enough to be a financial hit. With a hung jury of creatives, Jerry, Derek, Tom and Julia leave it up to Eileen to make the decision about which Marilyn musical to bring to Broadway: a sexy, provocative insightful musical or a lush, dazzling spectacle... Episode Notes This week your illustrious hosts Carla and Delia kick off the episode by discussing career transitions (Congrats Carla! And if anyone needs to buy or sell some property, holler at your girl!) and Delia who is googly eyed about this week’s book (and the ENTIRE freaking title), “He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys *The Newly Expanded Edition” by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. After going through the correct pronunciation of the author’s names, Delia imparts that ‘twer she the Captain of The World this book would be mandatory reading. The book touches on the pitfalls of dating and step by step goes through the excuses that men offer as to why they aren’t calling or making plans and bottom line, they just aren’t that into you.As an easy read with a conversational writing style it hit a chord prior books have not. The tone is that of a protective brother or close male friend. And while the info is good (albeit dated, like the answering machine on the cover) the exercises were a little too tongue in cheek and not for anyone seeking a deep examination of their behavior. Delia touches on examining the importance of what one feels they deserve. Spoiler alert, it’s a better plan than a text at 9pm asking what she’s up to for the evening. Carla shares that the way to her heart is a plan. And not the 9pm text variety. The ladies get into some of the common excuses given by dudes including the busy myth. (And a host of others) At the end of the day, if guys want to pursue, they will pursue. The girls talk about the lure of unavailable men with the exception of the subset of polyamory. Carla and Delia agree, it’s just not their flavor. Your hosts get real about the willful ignoring of excuses/warning signs and getting caught up in relationship potential.Carla shares a story about a friend who calls bullshit on this book and how it almost destroyed his relationship with his now husband. Proving that there is exceptions to every rule. Sometimes he is that into you but he’s also worked a double shift and is fucking tired.Mentioned in the episode: “He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys *The Newly Expanded Edition” by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo (Copyright © 2004, 2006 by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, Published by: Gallery Books, A Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc. At age 38, Liz Tuccillo's career took off. She joined the writing staff of Sex-in-the-City. She and comedian Greg Behrendt turned one of the episodes into a best selling comedic self-help dating book, "He's Just Not The Into You." She followed it up with a novel How to Be Single and indie film Take Care, carving out a niche in writing accessible romantic comedies. She is currently developing a pilot with Annabelle Gurwitch for FX called, I See You Made An Effort, which is adapted from Gurwitch's New York Times best selling book. Tuccillo talks about her gigs before "breaking in" and her roots in experimental theater and dance.
