In a world and culture that preaches and sells the lie of busyness=importance, it takes intentionality to function differently. That our lives actually were an outpouring of God within us. Episode 78 Friends, it's no surprise that I start this episode by going down a rabbit trail. This time it was about hazel nuts. But the real reason I have today's guest, Tara Sun, on the program is to talk about her new book, Overbooked and Overwhelmed: How to Keep Up With God When You are Just Trying To Keep Up With Life. Tara and I talk about the story behind the book and I especially loved talking about some of the parts that resonated with me most. One of those was how we both struggle to say no because we both love saying yes. There is a chapter in her book that addresses this by inviting us to be on mission for God and recognizing that sometimes that means saying no to things that aren't part of that mission. Another important thing we talked about is that this book isn't going to give you the perfect organizational system or the best baskets and bins to buy so that you will feel more peaceful and less overwhelmed. What it will do is point you to the true source of peace and that is Jesus. There is so much more we discuss in this episode. I know you're going to get so much out of it. I did! Listen and share with your friends! And don't forget to leave a review of the podcast if you haven't done that already. Help me spread the word! Thanks friends. In this heartfelt episode of The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast, Tara Sun, author of Overbooked and Overwhelmed, shares her raw, real experience navigating the chaos of modern life. Tara's story resonates with anyone who's felt the pressure of saying "yes" to everything and how it often leads to burnout and overwhelm. With a focus on reclaiming space for what's important, Tara offers practical wisdom on how to slow down in a world that encourages constant busyness. From learning to rest in God's presence to battling social media comparison, this conversation is an empowering call to reconsider how we prioritize our time. Do you ever feel like you’re just trying to keep your head above water—and your faith is barely treading with you? In today’s episode of Faith Over Fear, Carol talks with author and podcast host Tara Sun about her new book Overbooked and Overwhelmed: How to Keep Up with God When You're Just Trying to Keep Up with Life. Together, they tackle the spiritual fatigue so many of us feel when life won’t slow down. They explore what it looks like to develop real spiritual resilience—not after the burnout, but in the middle of it. Tara shares her own journey of choosing presence over performance, why slowing down can actually be an act of courage, and how even small spiritual rhythms can ground us in God’s peace when everything feels urgent. Whether your faith feels stuck, stretched, or straight-up silent, this conversation will remind you that God isn’t asking you to do more—He’s inviting you to be with Him, right where you are. Discussion Questions: Tara talks about feeling spiritually stuck—how can we tell if that “stuckness” is from circumstances or from a deeper spiritual disconnect? What does it look like to bring God into our chaos, instead of waiting for quiet to meet Him? How might someone begin to untangle a life driven by expectations instead of convictions? What fear-based “yeses” might be hiding behind our overbooked calendars—and how can we trade them for faith-filled choices? How can spiritual resilience grow during burnout, rather than waiting for rest to begin healing? What is one small spiritual rhythm you could commit to this week, even in your busiest season? This message challenges us to slow down and examine how the noise and busyness of life may be choking out God's voice, drawing from the Parable of the Sower and the story of Mary and Martha. We're invited to create space in our lives to nurture our spiritual growth by choosing the "one thing necessary"—sitting at Jesus' feet.
