LESSON 195Love Is The Way I Walk In Gratitude.Gratitude is a lesson hard to learn for those who look upon the world amiss. The most that they can do is see themselves as better off than others. And they try to be content because another seems to suffer more than they. How pitiful and deprecating are such thoughts! For who has cause for thanks while others have less cause? And who could suffer less because he sees another suffer more? Your gratitude is due to Him alone Who made all cause of sorrow disappear throughout the world. It is insane to offer thanks because of suffering. But it is equally insane to fail in gratitude to One Who offers you the certain means whereby all pain is healed, and suffering replaced with laughter and with happiness. Nor could the even partly sane refuse to take the steps which He directs, and follow in the way He sets before them, to escape a prison that they thought contained no door to the deliverance they now perceive.Your brother is your “enemy” because you see in him the rival for your peace; a plunderer who takes his joy from you, and leaves you nothing but a black despair so bitter and relentless that there is no hope remaining. Now is vengeance all there is to wish for. Now can you but try to bring him down to lie in death with you, as useless as yourself; as little left within his grasping fingers as in yours. You do not offer God your gratitude because your brother is more slave than you, nor could you sanely be enraged if he seems freer. Love makes no comparisons. And gratitude can only be sincere if it be joined to love. We offer thanks to God our Father that in us all things will find their freedom. It will never be that some are loosed while others still are bound. For who can bargain in the name of love? Therefore give thanks, but in sincerity. And let your gratitude make room for all who will escape with you; the sick, the weak, the needy and afraid, and those who mourn a seeming loss or feel apparent pain, who suffer cold or hunger, or who walk the way of hatred and the path of death. All these go with you. Let us not compare ourselves with them, for thus we split them off from our awareness of the unity we share with them, as they must share with us.We thank our Father for one thing alone; that we are separate from no living thing, and therefore one with Him. And we rejoice that no exceptions ever can be made which would reduce our wholeness, nor impair or change our function to complete the One Who is Himself completion. We give thanks for every living thing, for otherwise we offer thanks for nothing, and we fail to recognize the gifts of God to us.Then let our brothers lean their tired heads against our shoulders as they rest a while. We offer thanks for them. For if we can direct them to the peace that we would find, the way is opening at last to us. An ancient door is swinging free again; a long forgotten Word re-echoes in our memory, and gathers clarity as we are willing once again to hear.Walk, then, in gratitude the way of love. For hatred is forgotten when we lay comparisons aside. What more remains as obstacles to peace? The fear of God is now undone at last, and we forgive without comparing. Thus we cannot choose to overlook some things, and yet retain some other things still locked away as “sins.” When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self.Today we learn to think of gratitude in place of anger, malice and revenge. We have been given everything. If we refuse to recognize it, are we not entitled therefore to our bitterness, and to a self-perception which regards us in a place of merciless pursuit, where we are badgered ceaselessly, and pushed about without a thought or care for us or for our future? Gratitude becomes the single thought we substitute for these insane perceptions. God has cared for us, and calls us Son. Can there be more than this? Our gratitude will pave the way to Him, and shorten our learning time by more than you could ever dream of. Gratitude goes hand in hand with love, and where one is the other must be found. For gratitude is but an aspect of the Love which is the Source of all creation. God gives thanks to you, His Son, for being what you are; His Own completion and the Source of love, along with Him. Your gratitude to Him is one with His to you. For love can walk no road except the way of gratitude, and thus we go who walk the way to God.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

West End UMC Podcast Audio Podcast

Love Is the Way – Today we continue a post-Easter series of several weeks of focus on 1 John and the idea of love, that God loves us and that our response to that is to love God in return, but also to love others. This is also Confirmation Sunday when we present a dozen young people who have been through the confirmation process and are ready to become full members of the church. Delivering the sermon today is Rev. Will McLeane, our Pastor of Spiritual Formation. He begins with examples of our needing direction, such as when we're traveling by car and use a navigation system. There are other times when we desperately need physical or emotional direction from a doctor or a therapist. This letter of 1 John was received by an early church and offers guidance and direction, based in God's love through the incarnation. When we understand that and trust and feel God's love, we get a fullness of self and can have our hearts and minds changed so that we are commissioned to take courageous stands to embody and spread that love. We are open to and given direction by the love of God, embodied and exemplified in Jesus.

Abundance is the answer and love is the way. This was my mantra for 2023, and after only a little thought I knew it needed to be the same for 2024. In this episode, I talk about some of the unique challenges we all face and how that mantra can work for you. What brought this into focus personally (as some of you know) was my daughter's Leukemia diagnosis in January 2023. I'll tell you some of the places I got to mentally and emotionally that you might not believe. It surprised me, as well. I talk about some additional examples where that came into play. I'll also talk about this mantra compared to some of the other conversations I've had on this podcast around gratitude, and why, while they're related, this is a bit different. I'll also share the power of jumping in with both feet on this topic. We'll discuss self-compassion; and just as importantly, I'll talk through a scenario and describe all of those steps and feelings associated with it. These are things that take practice, but that you can develop into useful skills for any challenge. This week is just for things to think about - next week I'll help you build a habit to take you from scarcity to an abundance mindset. Enjoy, Stacie More episodes at StacieBaird.com. She was licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in 1987 and then certified in Addiction, Gestalt Therapy, Hypnosis, Sex Therapy, and Psychoanalysis. We discuss with Dr. Marks insight from not only her recovery journey, her years of trained knowledge with those suffering from addiction as well as their families. We also discuss her latest book Exit the Maze: One Addiction, One Cause, One Solution. Donna clarifies what she means by one addiction, one cause and one solution. Dr. Marks says that after decades of personal and professional experience, Dr. Marks claims abstinence and addressing the underlying trauma of addiction is not enough. With this approach, one addiction simply replaces another, and genuine self-fulfillment is never achieved. She contends every addiction is a substitute for love and until a person learns how to replace addiction with self-love, they will remain addicted For more on Dr. Donna Marks and her books: https://drdonnamarks.com/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/donthidethescars/message

This episode is all about why LOVE IS OUR WAY to a better life and a better world. I was thinking that I needed to take a break from guest interviews and revisit this all-important theme. And I'm choosing to do that by re-issuing the audio for S3E4. There are many spiritual topics that I've talked about in Our Spiritual Life episodes in the past 3 years. But these five are fundamental: 1) Love is Our Way, 2) We Are All One, 3) We are Individuations of the Divine, 4) We are All Equal (in the eyes of the Divine), and 5) The Divine is Pure Love and the Source of All Life. (Those were usually not the episode titles, by the way.) But if we can fully understand and commit to these fundamental truths, then we can begin to live consciously at a deep, world-changing level. In this episode, I talk in detail about topics 1, 2, and 3. In another episode (tentatively targeted for February 20, 2023), I will drill into topics 4 and 5 and talk about how living true to these five fundamentals can change humanity's future in wonderful ways.Support the show

Can we be guided by an energy beyond our thought? What would Love do in our life? Where would it take us? How would we walk, being guided by Love? In this lesson we are told the Holy Spirit is our only real guide. To where, one may ask? Love would lead us to gratitude and more happiness. Love is the result of being guided by the Holy Spirit. Do we feel the gratitude for this?

Love and gratitude go together. Grievances, comparisons, and unforgiveness go together and block our awareness of love. Which would we choose? We have the means to erase all the struggles and strife in our world. Will we walk that path of forgiveness and claim the Gifts of God? It's our choice which way we go. Go the way of love and forgive everything. Go the way of forgiveness and walk in gratitude!

Love is the way I walk in gratitude. Gratitude is a lesson hard to learn for those who look upon the world amiss. Nor could the even partly sane refuse to take the steps which He directs, and follow in the way He sets before them, to escape a prison that they thought contained no door to the deliverance they now perceive. Your brother is your "enemy" because you see in him the rival for your peace; a plunderer who takes his joy from you, and leaves you nothing but a black despair so bitter and relentless that there is no hope remaining. Let us not compare ourselves with them, for thus we split them off from our awareness of the unity we share with them, as they must share with us. We thank our Father for one thing alone; that we are separate from no living thing, and therefore one with Him. And we rejoice that no exceptions ever can be made which would reduce our wholeness, nor impair or change our function to complete the One Who is Himself completion. We give thanks for every living thing, for otherwise we offer thanks for nothing, and we fail to recognize the gifts of God to us. Then let our brothers lean their tired heads against our shoulders as they rest a while. We offer thanks for them. For if we can direct them to the peace that we would find, the way is opening at last to us. An ancient door is swinging free again; a long forgotten Word re-echoes in our memory, and gathers clarity as we are willing once again to hear. Walk, then, in gratitude the way of love. For hatred is forgotten when we lay comparisons aside. What more remains as obstacles to peace? The fear of God is now undone at last, and we forgive without comparing. Thus we cannot choose to overlook some things, and yet retain some other things still locked away as "sins." When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self. Today we learn to think of gratitude in place of anger, malice and revenge. We have been given everything. If we refuse to recognize it, we are not entitled therefore to our bitterness, and to a self-perception which regards us in a place of merciless pursuit, where we are badgered ceaselessly, and pushed about without a thought or care for us or for our future. For love can walk no road except the way of gratitude, and thus we go who walk the way to God.- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 195

Ruth Ridgeway is a designer & business strategist and we have bizarre parallels. We have both had our worlds shattered by events in 2014. Ruth's partner had an accident which left him with impactful life changing injuries and nothing has been the same ever since. We have never spoken properly nor met, yet have an affinity of knowing. Ruth is a wonderful soul who has held things together through the power of love, whilst caring and using creativity to guide herself through, something I wholeheartedly relate to.  Learn more about Ruth or get in touch directly ruthxo.com Welcome to Leaven Podcast. It's a series of conversations with people who have been through something formative and navigated a mad old path, yet done so with courage, holding on to hope. We elevate what it means to be human, voices of wisdom and models of lived experience, thinking, speaking, and living life regardless of what's shaped you.
